    LeBear Resort Luxury Residential Club

A friend found this resort when we were looking for somewhere to go for a girl's weekend. We stayed…read morein a third floor penthouse. I can sum up Lebear with one word: WOW. Absolutely amazing. A beautiful spacious apartment, with three bedrooms and two full bathrooms. It easily slept the six of us and we did not feel the least bit over crowded. As there was a group of us the price really was pretty reasonable for the weekend. While family friendly, it could be a bit pricey. The kitchen comes with everything you need from dinner ware to dish soap. There is a large grill on the private porch besides the stove top and oven. Two fireplaces (one is gas and the other you have to light for which they provide all needed materials). There are two flat screen TVs in the main rooms, another in the master bedroom and a small one in the bunk room. The shower in the master bath is huge and there is also a separate large tub. The best part is the large porch that overlooks the beach and Lake Michigan. It wraps around the side around to the back. the view of the lake and Sleeping Bear Dunes is beautiful. The resort also has a gym, outdoor pool and hot tub. Blu, a restaurant I highly recommend, is attached. There is also free wifi (they provide a password). The staff was also amazing, expect to be treated like an honored guest. They take care if anything you might need, even marsh mellows. The only slightly negative thing is that Lebear is a bit off on its own in Glen Arbor. The wineries are about a half hour away which was reasonable. Glen Arbor is small but charming. There are several shops, a couple bars (try Art's Tavern) and a grocery store. The resort is a very short walk from the town.

This review is really more of a 4.5. Absolutely beautiful location and accommodations; very…read morefamily-friendly, great amenities. There are all sorts of tiny details that make Lebear a special place, such as cucumber-ice water by the pool, cookies in the kitchen, and free and easy kayak use on site. The location is excellent. We have stayed at the Homestead in years past, but the Lebear location really sets it apart as it is a quick walk to the grocery stores, restaurants and shops in Glen Arbor. My only complaint is a minor one, and it's just that the bedroom situation is a little funky. In all three of the units I saw, the master bedroom was perfect, but the two smaller guest rooms left much to be desired. One of the bedrooms has a nice queen bed and bunk beds and the other has a double or queen-sized trundle bed. I would think to put the trundle bed in the room with the bunk beds (making it more of a "kids" room) and leave the nice queen-sized bed in its own room. Also, the hallway lighting outside of the two smaller guest rooms was extremely bright at night and made it very difficult to sleep.

We loved staying at this lodge for a long weekend in Northern Michigan! The location of Falling…read moreWaters Lodge is so special. I'll never forget the beautiful views of the boats and shops of Fishtown. Van's Beach is right outside the door, and the town is a close drive to Traverse City, Sleeping Bear Dunes, and wine tasting on the Leelanau Peninsula. We opted for a balcony apartment room, which was a great decision. It is located off their upper deck and offers some additional privacy from the other visitors. The room had two beds - one downstairs and one in a cute loft area. It would be plenty of space for two couples to share, although noise could be heard throughout the room. The bathrooms and kitchenette are both recently updated and really added to our overall experience! We also loved that they are dog friendly, as it can be limiting to travel with pets at times and find convenient stays. While the price point to stay is similar to the prices of nicer hotels, we didn't experience quite the same level of service. As you can imagine with a smaller staff, they offer room cleaning only as requested and don't always have someone staffing the office. Overall, we didn't mind since we loved the location and the amazing views.

The office staff said they would deduct $75 from our bill and never did. I've called and left many messages and will be following up today with an email. We have a two night stay booked next fall and I would cancel it if it wasn't for us meeting friends there and staying at the same lodge. I don't mind that this is a more low-key, no staff present at night but when you wake up and you can't take a shower because the shower isn't draining and backing up with disgusting stuff and you call the overnight number and text it and no one even bothers to get back to you once the office is opened, it's a terrible way to start your day. Especially if you're celebrating some thing. Then, to be told they know that there are problems in there with the drainage and didn't care about disclosing it or even answering their phones and addressing the issue and just laughing it off is incredibly unprofessional and just unkind. Maybe they would like to start their day standing in disgusting water on their birthday. :/ I've read a lot of complaints about this lodge. This is such a beautiful location and a very special and unique lodge but you need new management. Desperately.

Everyday we had freshly baked treats that tasted amazing. The room was clean and and safe for our four year-old to play with his trains. Would definitely come back!

It's also located in a scenic spot -- beautiful Omena Bay is right down the hill. The lodge itself is comprised of several historic buildings. When we stay here we prefer a room in the Wheeler House, the main house that's also the inkeepers' residence; the second floor is home to four very nicely appointed guest rooms, each with a private bath. The dining room and sitting rooms are on the first floor; guests can enjoy a crackling wood fire in the fireplace, play the piano or just sit and read in the front rooms. Another house on property also has guest rooms, we believe, while a third house is divided into suites. There's also a game/activity building with its own fireplace and kitchenette. The hosts are friendly and helpful, and are excellent cooks -- we love the breakfasts! They're also very knowledgeable about the area, and about the history of their establishment. We really enjoy them. Omena, between Suttons Bay and Northport, is in the northern section of the Leelanau Peninsula but still makes a good, convenient base camp for exploring the rest of the area. We would definitely recommend Sunset Lodge for couples as well as for groups. After driving down "motel row" in nearby Traverse City, we were even more convinced that mom-and-pop lodging is the way to go up here, and that we have found a real travelers' gem in Sunset Lodge.

You couldn't find two better hosts than Jim and Linda. But what about breakfast, you ask? That's great too. Our first morning was Almond Ciabatta French Toast with Michigan maple syrup and locally produced breakfast sausage. The next morning was this soufflé sort of dish with hash browns, mushrooms, and eggs served in a small bowl, with bacon on the side. Locally baked multi-grain bread was served with fresh Michigan preserves. Every day, there's a fresh fruit cup with berry yogurt and their delicious Korner Kottage Krunch (see KK website for details). Basic idea though, this is the best granola I've ever had. Otherwise, our room (Paris) was comfy and clean. The screened in front porch is nice for winding down with a good book. The location is perfect for walking around downtown, and is across the street from the beach. A quick drive takes you to wineries slightly North, to Old Mission Peninsula, and to downtown Traverse City. Free wi-fi too. Yelper alert--while sitting inside Korner Kottage, my iPhone yelp app said I couldn't check in because I was 2.2 miles away. Not sure if this is due to AT&T coverage, or the app.
