Having been to this fine establishment twice, I would recommend it with flying colors. You're greeted by friendly hostesses, and as they walk you past the beautiful bar, you realize that you are up for quite the experience. All of the seating has a unique waterfront view. Outside seating is offered, but we haven't visited during mild weather. All of their food is delish, but the scallops are to die for!!!

We walked in just as the restaurant was closing but they welcomed us in for drinks at the bar. Cute and cozy setting on the water and friendly staff. We will definitely be back for dinner soon.

I'm not even sure where to start, because our evening here for dinner was so amazing! We were celebrating our anniversary weekend in Northern, MI and we're staying in Leland (our favorite place ever) on our last night. My boyfriend booked us dinner at The Riverside Inn, which we'd never been to before. The food and the service absolutely blew us away. The setting inside is romantic and welcoming, plus you can't beat dining right next to the river. We enjoyed delicious drinks, a few great martinis and signature cocktails. The seasonality and freshness of the menu is part of what drew us to dining there, and we sure are glad we did. We started with cauliflower as an appetizer and shared a wedge salad. The ramp ranch was to die for! Main entree was a pork chop with foie gras braised cabbage, bacon jam, and shishito peppers. I don't think there are even words to describe how fabulous it was! Just writing and thinking about it makes my mouth water. Perfectly balanced dishes when it comes to taste, portion, and presentation. After dinner we enjoyed a hummer ice cream dessert drink and an espresso each. If I could go every week, I would! It left us feeling happy and full and extremely excited to go back.

So we got there and there was a 30-40 minute wait time, but it ended up being 20 minutes before we got seated. We were then intorduced to our waiter, who was extremely nice. i got a Diet Coke and it tasted fantastic, no issues whatsoever. The menu looked phenomena, with tons of tasty dishes, but i ended up getting Whitefish and chips, and they were phenomenal. The fries were amazing, the waiter even brought us extra ketchup without us even asking. The fish also tasted very good, basic whitefish, but the crispy and crunchy taste was just soooo good. we tipped $50 just for the service and the quality of the food. If I lived around the area, I would come here often. Highly recommend eating here and visiting Leland!

One BIL got the New Orleans Whitefish ($33) and the other BIL got the Whitefish tacos ($21) and it was unanimous...everyone loved the food. What really made our night special was our server Julie! We thought it was a great venu! This was our first time to Leland and wanted to check out the fishing bay area for what it's famous for. It was about 4:30, we walked up to the Cove restaurant and noticed a small line waiting and then I noticed a small staircase along the wall and walked down and there was Ricks Cafe'. It said seat yourself, so we did. Didn't think we were going to get any service anytime soon, within a couple of minutes a young lady appeared taking our order. Yes, it was a short menu but, the chicken sandwich with chips sounded pretty good. The sandwich was really good and the falls atmosphere were a pretty cool setting in this beat little fish harbor. We enjoyed watching people fish off the dock and some dude in a kayak trying his chances angling. We enjoyed it immensely and will be back next time in the area. As for the person who complained that there was limited tables for dogs...ITS A RESTAURANT for PEOPLE. I don't want to be near your mutt schlepping scraps off the floor. The day was beautiful so sitting right by the water made for a great ambiance. The waitress was friendly. Unfortunately, the portion size vastly different- we all ordered a bowl of the seafood chowder and 3 out of 4 of us got a bowl filled barely half way, while the fourth was filled to the top. When we mentioned to the waitress she just kind of dismissed it. White fish Caesar salad was outstanding- smoked fish delicious and dressing tasted just right. Portion was not big, just right for one person.

Our server was not the friendliest and seemed a bit impatient when we had questions. She also seemed eager to get our order in and move on. My grandma is very elderly and naturally takes a little longer, and I felt the server was particularly impatient with her, which was disappointing. We ordered the whitefish basket, a whitefish sandwich, and the fried shrimp. I was completely perplexed that the shrimp basket didn't come with any sides like the other baskets. Without sides, the meal felt incomplete. The food came out very quickly, and everything was good, but nothing was fabulous. The fried shrimp were tasty but really needed some sort of different dipping sauce (not cocktail) , and I think coleslaw would have made the meal feel much more complete. Overall, it was an okay lunch. The beautiful waterfront location definitely helped save the experience, and I really liked the metal cups our drinks were served in -- such a fun touch! I really wanted to love this place after the remodel, but unfortunately, the food and service didn't quite live up to my expectations. The location, however, is hard to beat.

What happened to the Bluebird? The new "Blue Bird" is a shadow of its former self…read more The inside of the place is slick, modern and very brightly lit. If that's what you're looking for, you'll be pleased. But if you're looking for that old and faded in the best sense Bluebird vibe, you'll likely find the experience jarring. It's like they thought "what's the exact opposite of the old ambiance?" and then leaned hard into that. You feel like you're at any of 1,000 generic sports bars in anywhere, USA. The food was not the same either. Yes, they still have their whitefish, but it's a significantly smaller portion and the presentation was basically toss-it-on-a-plate-with-some-fries-and-call-it-good. Probably should have ordered the cheaper basket, because fine dining it ain't. The burger was a solid D. Ordered medium rare but it was a hammered well done, and anything other than meat on a bun now costs significantly extra. Adding on cheese and making it deluxe took a rather small burger up to near $20, which was more than the large pizza we also ordered. The pizza was good though, so if we ever went back, which we no longer plan to, we'd get that again. Cedar Tavern pizza still puts it to shame though, and since the rest of their food is much better and MUCH cheaper, it'll be a shorter boat trip for us. Most distressingly, they no longer have a salad bar, let alone any of the classic salads or cinnamon bread they used to serve. No peas and peanuts. No bowtie pasta salad. None of it. If she was still with us, my grandma would have mourned the loss of the peas and peanuts, let alone all the other changes. It seems like they know the food isn't really the draw anymore, because their website doesn't even suggest a menu - it's ALLLLL about the merch. Which they have a TON of. Including a line marketing themselves as a "yacht club." Which is funny because the old TC Yacht Club and the old Bluebird had a similar sort of vibe. The outdoor seating does have a nice perch over the Carp still though, and I would say that that is an improvement to the old setup. I'm sure visitors to Leland who never knew the old restaurant will find something to like (or at least a lot less to dislike). But I think everyone in our quite extended family have now tried it, and we're all in agreement about the new place: nice outdoor seating, higher prices, worse food and completely altered (for the worse) atmosphere.

The vegetable portage soup was actually good. 5. The bread was fine too 6. The tomato salad thin was basically a big slice of tomato with some other stuff on top of it. Only the pickled strawberries were good. But if you want tomato juice get that salad 7. The brannzino was a whole fish. Okay that sounds interesting and looked good. But wait, they didn't give separate plates for deboning it. Cherry on top-also took away the cutlery after the last course. So no cutlery, no plate, and no deboning skills in their regular amateur customer. That's was fun. 8. Lamb chops were under seasoned and unevenly cooked and fatty. 9. We were at the kitchen counter and the head chef/owner talked to us a lot while he was at the pass finishing dishes. He was not overbearing, where it was annoying. He was very friendly. He asked a lot of questions and we returned the favor. He went around talking to other tables too. Besides him, the rest of the staff was very pleasant and accommodating, including the chefs doing the cooking! It was one of the best experiences I had in regard to the staff. I have included what I ate below. Everything was timed out well too. Our Bread ($8) - This was a cheddar bread with ranch butter. This was very good. It came out extremely warm. The ranch butter was light and paired perfectly with the soft inside and slight crisp on the outside of the bread. Cucumber ($16) - This came with salsa Macha, pickled jalapeno, and cilantro. This appeared extremely fresh. There was a slight kick from the jalapenos and/or salsa. It all went well together with one another. Ricotta Gnudi ($17) - This came with pea, basil, country ham, and Marcona almonds. The gnudi had an unreal texture. The almonds were a nice added touch for some crunch. I did not really think the ham was needed. Potato ($17) - This came in a brown-butter cheese sauce with shallots and pickled mushrooms. This was my favorite non dessert dish of the night. The cheese sauce was unreal with tons of flavors, while the pickled mushrooms combined with the crispy shallots made for a superb pairing. Fried Chicken ($16) - This came with two large chicken pieces with a white BBQ sauce. This was brined in Earl Grey tea. The skin was crispy as anything, and the chicken was cooked to perfection. It was moist with great color. The white BBQ sauce was one of the best sauces I had in a while. I do not have much experience with white BBQ sauces, but this was tremendous. The vinegar could really be tasted and paired well with the hot crispy skin of the chicken. Halibut ($47) - This came with white beans, chermoula, and black garlic. The halibut was cooked perfectly, and the chermoula was ideal with the slight crisp from the large beans. There was also a nice crunch from crispy brown rice it seemed like. Key Lime Pie ($16) - This was with a homemade graham crust, white chocolate, and a basil meringue. This was my favorite overall dish of the night. The crust was one of the best I ever had. It was so buttery and had a perfect thickness to the key lime filling. The little meringue pieces on top was an ideal topping. Will I go back? Obvious.
