The front desk girls are nice, but the main female Doctor is super rude. She speaks in a very condescending tone & lectures me on things I do not care to hear about, not even related to eyes. I came here for a quick appointment, not to hear you yap and lecture me. I recently moved for work & came back into town because the other Doctor who checked my eyes few years ago was nice, so I thought I'd just go check my eyes again at this same place. Not coming back here, I might as well find another place closer to me & with better service, from a Doctor. She is super stuck up. All I have to say is wow!! I wish I could have gotten my lenses cut on the same day but things don't work that way. It's okay though cuz the turn around time was fsdter than I expected. I spoke to kevin about my needs and he was totally nice and very informative. I had two pairs of lenses cut and got 1 done the very next day. Expectations for the other was a bit longer but somehow kevin worked his magic and got it done within a week! I'm so satisfied that I walked in and had kevin help me out. EXCELLENT EXPERIENCE! Calling for an appointment was quick & easy. My son and I were in and out in about 1 hour, efficient. They take Medi-Cal, but still treat you respectfully. Good selection of brand name frames, very affordable. Impressive selection of testing equipment, very clean! Staff is super friendly and patient, professional. Dr. Tina Dao was fantastic, she checked my eyes much more carefully than Sam's Club and Lens Crafters. :: OVERALL :: YELP specific = People complaining about waiting? They have to do eye exams, one doctor cannot check more then 1 person at a time. Be patient...do you want your exam rushed OR do you want your exam accurate? As for feeling pressured to spend money, I felt no such pressure. There is one optional ($40) eye test that Medi-Cal does not cover, I paid for it because seeing is important to me and my eyes are worth at least $40. I've been living in Fountain Valley since 2002 and seen many changes to this little strip mall, places coming and going, and yet I hadn't tried this Optometrist! How can that be! A friend of mine had tried them a year ago and really liked Dr. Tina Dao. They still go here so I decided to walk in, check with my eye insurance and make an appointment. I love this place! The staff is very kind and considerate, everything was explained to me, as in the exam, what is covered/not covered, and how best to fit my needs for vision improvement. Dr. Tina Dao took her time with me, asked meaningful questions related to what I wanted contacts for, (I already had 2 pairs of prescription glasses which were cumbersome to carry around, one for reading, one for distance, which I didn't really need). I wanted a combo contacts lens, if possible, and she suggested a bifocal. After multiple tests, (her equipment is automated and the tests go pretty fast), she was able to give me a couple of contacts to try. I have in my eyes a "daily multifocal" contact lens, a follow up appointment in a week, and I can read this phone WITHOUT glasses AND go off and drive without having to carry any extra Stuff! While it's not perfect, I've had them in for an hour or so, (you give and take with a multifocal contact lens), and I still have another box to try. Read the 5 star reviews with a grain of salt. Most businesses make multiple accounts to give themselves 5 stars to offset the less-than-stellar reviews. I have been here numerous times. This review is not just one incident, but an accumulation of multiple experiences. The products work. The doctor and most of the staff have been professional, informal, and cordial. The one employee that is not any of those is the older Asian gentleman that speaks with a disrespectful tone, has a condescending attitude, and just reaks of a poor salesman. He audibly and visibly gets agitated if a customer asks him questions about their products and services and will answer them in a condescending manner. Only time he is remotely pleasant is when a customer is shelling out big money for premium products and add-ons. If the customer doesn't want to spend the big money (or can't because money is tight), he will treat them like an unwanted chore and just rush through the transaction. Whenever I dealt with him I always left unpleasant. If you got big money to spend and you notify that to the older Asian gentleman, he will cater to you and your experience will be decent at best. If you're tight on money or do not want to buy into all those premium add-ons and you do get that older Asian gentleman, just walk out. Go somewhere else where you are treated with basic human respect and decency. Find one that listens to your needs and treats you well. You do have options. Remember that "Fountain Valley Optometry" is not the only optometry in the area. read more

I've been going to this optometry office since December of 2022. I had been experiencing some blurry vision and had never gone to an eye doctor before so I was nervous ahead of my appointment. Dr. Dao made my experience very comfortable and she diagnosed me with keratoconus, an eye disease I had never even heard before. She was so communicative about the diagnosis and answered all the questions my dad and I had. I'm extremely thankful she caught it so early on because now I have gone through two corneal cross-linking procedures as referred by her office and have been prescribed scleral lenses which has improved my vision so much. Dr. Dao and her staff are incredibly helpful, understanding, and truly have your needs in mind. I especially want to highlight Kevin, who helped my family and I afford an updated prescription my glasses by working with my insurance. Been coming here to see Dr Dao for 5 years now. She has THE best bedside manner, I always look forward to my visits with her. I also really like the front desk staff here, they are professional, friendly, and so helpful. The office space is cool - if you have kiddos like me, they will stay busy with books and a small activity corner. I never thought I would review a doctor's office, but Dr. Dao and her staff deserve more than just 5 stars. I would recommend them with no doubt. I had gotten a referral from a friend, and I am glad I switched over from lousy Costco optometrists after seven years! Dr. Dao knows what she's doing - she's been in practice for over 10 years (but she doesn't look it!!). I used to wear hard contact (RPG) lenses. I decided to switch to wearing soft contacts, and Dr. Dao has made the transition go by smoothly for me. I've been to a couple follow ups already because Dr. Dao makes sure I am taken care of. The staff is extremely polite and funny! I have made several trips to the office, and I have never left unhappy. When you place an order, it usually comes within a week. The staff is on top of things and gives you a call when your order arrives. I am very grateful for their assistance. Ask for Kevin the next time you're in. He's a great guy! Another plus: they speak Vietnamese. The office is great. There are a couple seats in the waiting area/corner. Everything is really clean, neat, and organized. For glasses and frames, they have lots of options to choose from. I called a few offices to see if they can bring me in but the wait would be an hour or so. I then called here; the gentleman I spoke with on the phone kindly squeezed me in. I get relieved! Probably the best experience I have ever had at a doctor's office! Granted it was an Optometrist... but hey, still great! I came in for an eye exam and evaluation for refractive surgery. After some short paperwork, the opt tech did a "puff-of-air" test on me and reassured me that I didn't have glaucoma. What a relief! I can finally sleep easy at night! Shortly after, Dr. Dao pulled me back to her exam room and got my visual acuity. She was super informative and answered every question that I had for her that day! She said my vision was fine but had an astigmatism in my right eye. After hearing that term for so many years, I finally had to ask what an astigmatism was. From what I remember, she described it as having an irregular shape in my cornea. She said that it was nothing that refractive surgery couldn't fix. The thing I absolutely loved most was the fact that she didn't try to sell refractive surgery to me! That's always a breath of fresh air when you go into a doctor's office and they aren't trying to refer you here and there to make a couple extra bucks! I told her that I wanted to be a dentist and that refractive surgery has always been in the back of my head. She let me know that if I did, my nearsightedness would be resetted to normal eyesight and I would probably have to wear bifocals when I worked on my patients. I definitely have a lot to think about now! But thanks to Dr. Dao and her team at the Fountain Valley Optometry, I have the knowledge to make a sound decision! read more

My son and I went here back in June 2014 for an eye exam, in which my son needed glasses. Unfortunately, his glasses were no longer aligned, bent out of place, and the screw fell off. A few days ago, I took them in to be repaired (which ended up being free of charge). Kevin was very helpful and patient. A few days after my initial fitting for contacts it didnt seem like my right eye was correct. I called to see if I could come in before my followup appt. They said I could come right away. (I have very watery eyes so its hard to get my prescription correct) Dr. Dao corrected it and everything was fine after... I came in for my followup appt and to pickup my glasses while I was waiting for the dr. Kevin fitted my glasses and did the necessary adjustments while I was with Dr. Dao. This is a 5 star practice and let me tell you why: One of my lenses on my glasses popped out and I was frantically searching for an optometrist nearby to fix it. When I called this office today, the phone was answered promptly on the second ring by Mai Lin (forgive my spelling). I told her that I had a pair of glasses that the lens had popped out and she invited me to come by to have a look at it. When I entered the office, I was promptly greeted by Kevin who, without knowing who I was, immediately took a look at my glasses and knew exactly what was wrong with them. He took them back into their lab to work on it. While I was waiting, Dr. Dao came out and greeted me with a friendly smile and handshake! It's not everyday that a doctor will come out of their office to welcome you! After chatting with her for a bit, Kevin returned with my fixed pair of glasses! The real reason this practice gets 5 stars is that Kevin didn't just hand me back the glasses with the lenses in. After he returned, he explained to me that part of the frame was broken and that my lenses were actually the wrong curvature for my frame and it would probably happen again. He suggested that we send the glasses to the lab to get the problem fixed so that the lenses wouldn't pop out again. If this is the average patient experience at this office, I would highly recommend Dr. Dao as your friendly, family optometrist! read more

Came in for eyeglasses but at the time also had a few underlying medical issues that were affecting my eyes at time of visit. These problems would have been apparent during the dilated exam even though I couldn't tell. The optometrist said nothing and not too long after the issues progressed and caused major, irreversible problems. Had the optometrist not been negligent, maybe more caring/concerned and referred me to an opthalmologist like she was supposed to (often optometrists see problems first) my vision probably could have been saved. As for the prescription glasses they were accurate so 1 star but I regret coming here everyday. read more
