When I went in for a consult, I was unfortunately not a good candidate for LASIK. Dr. Feinerman suggested another procedure called EVO ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens) that I was a good fit for. Despite the higher cost compared to LASIK, I was totally on board. I scheduled my surgery appointment afterwards and I was given instructions on how to prepare for the procedure (I had to put eye drops in beforehand). The surgery center Dr. Feinerman used was in Tustin (Barranca Surgery Center). I had a very early appointment and I didn't have to wait too long. The procedure took what felt like 10 minutes, but could have been way longer (the anesthesia worked like a charm!). I had my sister drive me home, there is no way you should try to drive yourself home after getting this done!! Immediately after the surgery, my vision had a noticeable improvement, with sensitivity to light. Over the next 3 months, my vision stabilized and I don't have dry eyes as often anymore. I don't know if it's their policy but if my frame break less than a month through no negligence on my part, it is reasonable for one to think that it's under warranty and it would be easy to swap out. Not here. I had to jump through loops, jump over fire, hurdles, the whole nine yards just for them to finally give me replacement frames that were equal to the frames that I purchased. But they told me I would have to purchase the lens out oft pocket. They said that ray ban discontinued the frames that I chose, and that they would have to give me frames equaling the same amount. But I would have to pay for the lenses out of pocket. I thought that was ridiculous. So they found some frames that could fit my lenses, and they were cheaper. I asked them, does this equal the same amount, and they said, well, you only paid 70. But your insurance paid for the rest. And I'm like, I paid for the insurance too. My original frames cost $230. The repacement frames they gave me coast $115.00. It was too difficult for them to see what I was saying. So I voiced my displeasure, took my cheaper glasses, and I vowed never to go back to them. I i am very happy with my optometrist there but I will never have them filll my glasses prescription ever again. Oh, and by the way, it took four months for me to finally get these replacement frames that were sitting inside their glasses case all that time.

After my first consultation, I was confident that I was in good hands; and within two weeks I was in the operating room after being cleared by both the Ophthalmologist and Optometrist for PRK--which is a bit more safe but tedious in recovery compared to LASIK. The entire staff are very accommodating, meticulous and pleasant to talk to. I called in countless times before committing and always had my questions thoroughly answered by Marvin. Leslie from the front desk always makes me feel at home when I step into the institute. I never felt pressured by Dr. Pham or Dr. Huynh to proceed with treatment, even though they took an abundance of tests on my eyes and clearly explained the risks and rewards of PRK--all before I even paid! Some of you might be like me and have extremely high myopia and want the vision freedom. From my experience, I researched ICL surgery since 2019. Once EVO ICL was FDA approved, I started looking for a surgeon for advice and see if I was a candidate. Before choosing IQ Laser Vision, I had gone to a different surgeon and he did say I was a EVO ICL candidate, however I was not impressed by him. I was later referred to IQ Laser Vision, where they contacted me and scheduled an appointment to see if I was a candidate. Their multiple offices made it easy for me to go meet with an advisor and doctor. However, with personal reasons, I was unable to get the surgery done during that year after that initial consult and going through their state of the art arcscan (apparently they're the only office that are using this technology to make sure to see if your eye has enough space/vault...very cool). Fast forward March 2026, I contacted IQ laser vision again in hopes that maybe I can ask them for another consult. Again, the advisor walked me through, doctors did their check up, arcscan again (still cool) and I was able to schedule my surgery. It was an honor to have Dr. Robert Lin be available to do my EVO ICL surgery. He was incredibly patient with my questions, listened to my story of researching this procedure, and I knew I was in good hands from someone who had worked on so many eyes. Perhaps my favorite part aside from the whole journey of vision correction and having 20/20 vision is that you can feel how much Dr. Lin cared for his patients. He called me personally to make sure my first day post surgery was ok. And even after 4 months later, he contacted me to make sure I was ok and how I am liking my vision. For those who are like me going back and forth about vision correction, I highly recommend making an appointment/consult to see if you can be a candidate. From there you can move forward and make that decision. I know it was later than I anticipated for myself, but I can truly say I am happy having that peace of mind that I can wake up and see, not have to worried about my glasses/contacts during a possible evacuation (fire or earthquake), and do water sport without fear of infections if I wore my contacts. That mental peace is probably the second to best part of this journey.

One of the best parts about this procedure is that if you're not satisfied with the results, or if a better option comes along, you can reverse the treatment. So, there's really no major risk if it doesn't work out. I qualified for the "Evo" ICL, and while I had my doubts at first, I've learned that patience is key when adjusting to a new way of seeing. Along with eye drops to aid the healing process, I found that after about three months, my eyes began to coordinate and adjust. What was once a constant dependency on glasses is now improving, and I'm starting to feel more normal without them. It's funny; I still find myself touching my face to lift imaginary glasses that no longer exist--it's just a habit! I highly recommend this option to anyone who wants to change their vision, whether it's for practical reasons, like gaming without glasses or to keep up with future technologies like AI glasses. We were sent to a different office but after calling around I finally managed to get him a sooner appointment close to home, same day. The location is super convenient because it's close to the shopping mall so we were able to do a quick Costco run after and knock off a few items on my to-do list (happy wife, happy life) they even offered to take care of our parking which was a really nice touch since parking is a whopping $15.00. Doctor was funny and great and the female nurse was very kind. They made a scary situation into a not so bad one.

I said yes, that I had been there since 10 a.m. On accessing my phone to make a call for a ride home, I discovered it was 3 p.m.!! Every appointment since then-one every 6 weeks as been 1- 1/2 hours long--a little too long in my opinion. It appears that the doctor is there for one day a week and because of the number of patients, there is insufficient time for adequate attention from the doctor, it's a case of hurry up and wait for him, or a cattle call if thats the right word. On my June 4th appointment, two of us were accompanied into two different rooms. A female doctor came in and introduced herself to me and left. I did not catch her name. I was given three injections in my eye to numb it -- one has been usual. The numbness lasted for nearly 5 hours. It was also blurry for that lengt of time, so it was just as well I dont The female doctor came back in after several minutes and quickly gave me an injection and said that I was free to go. I went to the front desk to make my next appointment and was offered one in Lagima hills, which I had to decline because I have no way of getting there because I don't drive and cannot afford taxi fare in both directions. The earliest appointment I could get at huntington Beach is September 9 --- 13 weeks instead of the recommended 6 week. This delay is detrimental to my vision, or not conducive to keeping my eye healthy.
