My husband brought me here to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. He knows I love watching stand-up comedy and improv. One of my favorite places in Austin, TX was Esther's Follies. This place has a similar live improv show that gets the crowd laughing. Arrive early to find parking. I think we were there at least 30 minutes to an hour before the show, and the lot only had about 3 very tight spots left. Street parking looked limited. If you were forced that route, you'll need time to drive around looking for a spot and then walking your way back to the theater. At least the building parking was free! I'm not sure if the building has an elevator. We climbed stairs to enter it. The ticket booth is just inside to the left at the top of the stairs. A staff and show member greeted us and explained how the show worked, since we were new here. Chairs were lined up in rows, but they have little tables between every two chairs. Great for setting down your drinks and also gives you a more intimate experience if you are there on a date. You can also move your seat around a bit to adjust for long legs or growing girth. The front two rows have red velvet 2-seater lounge couches. These plush luxury seating options look great until you find yourself called on to participate in the performance in some way. Just for the record, sitting further back doesn't guarantee you won't be included in the show in some unexpected way. Audience participation happened in a variety of ways. Before the show, you could write ideas on post it notes and stick them on their idea board. Additionally, you could jot down a phrase on an index card and place it in a fishbowl. These items were regularly exploited during the show requiring the actors to think on their feet. Bartenders can make cocktails and standard mixed drinks. Beer and wine are fast and simple. Surprisingly, they don't do margaritas here because they take too long to make and the line backs up. Eventually they hope to get a frozen margarita machine to make it easier. Food options are severely limited to items you might find at an independent theatre. There is a small container of premade popcorn that honestly isn't very satisfying. We also split some chocolate covered pretzels that appeared to be individually wrapped by a special retailer. I recommend eating prior to coming or at least have a decent healthy snack at home and then go out to eat afterwards. The show was fun! The actors had a lot of different scenarios that kept you entertained. Each sketch only lasted 10-15 minutes. If you were only mildly amused, you didn't have to wait long before they were throwing something new at you. I would definitely come back here and would recommend others check it out for a fun evening of laughs. read more

This is a hidden gem in Lower Greenville. It is pure improv comedy and we were told by a regular this evening that we got to see the "B" team tonight. Judging by all of the laughter generated, I don't really think that was true. Every skit they pulled together just worked and provided non stop laugh track for the evening. They have a full bar that is open until showtime and then again during intermission. Audience participation is encouraged but they don't try to embarrass anyone and they keep the humor out of the gutter for the most part. Highly recommended for some side splitting laughs. read more

Nice place! I loved the vibe and the comfortable atmosphere. We sat on the couches in the front row. This was a private event for a wedding rehearsal that we attended, so the couches may or may not be there regularly. The bar was easy to get drinks from and the bartender remembered what I had ordered earlier in the evening, which was amazing seeing as there were about 50 people in attendance! Since it was a private event there was food setup in the alcove near the main entrance stairs. The comedy being improv style was unique and utilized the audience to script out the show. It was quite unique and I loved it. I need to find this type of comedy in the area where I live. I recommend coming out and giving this place a try. read more

Cons: tip to get to the theater close to when they open doors at 7 for the best seats since there is no assigned seating so can by trickier for larger groups. Went to Four Day Weekend for my sister's birthday. We were looking for something that wasn't just dinner and this was exactly it! The improv show took audience suggestions and turn words and phrases into songs and skits. The bartenders were super nice and made great drinks too. We would definitely come back and have recommended to friends. This is something that you can totally do more than once since the show is different every time you go. Came here for the first time Saturday night. I wasn't sure what time expect, but it was fantastic and I can't wait to come back again! FYI they only offer drinks, no food available. Limited parking but if you arrive before 7:30 pm you should be able to get a spot in their lot. The only downside is if you are plus size the chairs are very small and uncomfortable so best bet is getting a spot on the sofas. I highly recommend going to see Four Day Weekend. These men are extremely talented with improv and will make you laugh throughout the entire show. I've been going to the Fort Worth Four Day Weekend for many years now, since high school! It's definitely a downtown Fort Worth staple. Consistently funny improv show -- music, audience participation, and a great cast. Happy to see they've carried the fun and talent over to Dallas. I've been eager to check out this newer location since it opened, so I surprised Jon with tickets for his birthday. There are tons of great restaurants and bars around (lower Greenville), so it's the perfect area for a night out. This location is so different from Fort Worth, a totally new vibe. The venue is a renovated historic building, very pretty and charming. It's not stadium/theater seating, but simple rows of wooden chairs and fancy couches separated by cutesy end tables adorned with flickering candles. There's a small balcony with seating, as well. The bar is in the back of the theater, closed behind a curtain during the show. Pretty nice drink list with plenty of local and craft pours. Four Day Weekend always provides a great experience. Some performances are better than others, of course, but overall the cast works well together and I always laugh over the absurd scenarios that play out. I always get a little paranoid that I might get called up onstage, ugh!! $25 per ticket and typical cocktail prices. So fun. read more

Four Day Weekend stepped in with a last minute private show for our group when Elton John cancelled his concert (again!) and we were scrambling to find something for 30 out of town corporate guests to do on short notice! These guys (and gals) are so talented - we absolutely loved it and it's clear they love what they do, too. Some of the actors came and visited with us after the show, we learned more about them and their background which was also fascinating. We went to the Fort Worth location. N absolute must see. So unique and original. Hysterical 1.5 hrs. If you don't want to participate then sit all the way up top. This place lives up to the 5-star Yelp rating. We purchased tickets the week of for a date night getaway with another couple. Upon arrival we were greeted and promptly taken to the theater (little did we know we were greeted by one of the actors who would later be on stage!). The theater itself is very nice and you can't even tell you are in Dallas once you get settled in. Felt like something you would see in an older East coast city. The bar is well stocked and they had a couple of nice specialty pre mixed cocktails the night we were there (Manhattan and something else). There are small snacks - think nuts and chocolate so make sure you eat before/after the show. The show itself was great. We got to write recommendations on post-it notes before the show and much to my dismay, 2 of my 3 scribbles ended up being in the show! How's that for true impromptu? This place is really fun. It's different from stand-up comed, which you should know before going. It's an improv, whose line is it anyway style show. It's interactive with the guests; you never know who they may choose to question for content, or even ask on stage to participate! The place itself is in an easy to get to location with decent parking - it's near Truck Yard and Trader Joe's on lower Greenville. If you have a larger group than 4 I strongly advise going about 30 minutes early so you can sit together. The inside has a Roaring 20s decor with a good bar and clean restrooms. Once the show starts the bar is closed until intermission so it's dark and there are no distractions. Great choice for a date night, or group outing! read more

I believe this is the one improv show in town and they have a location in downtown FW and lower Greenville Dallas. I went to the Dallas location for my first experience and was not disappointed. Thank god, I was not called on. Ha! But these comics have skill! Idk how they think so well off the top of their head to come up with the bits they do. They allow for audience participation through writing stuff on a board and then pulling random stuff that we wrote from the board to decide what the next line in a dialog will be or where the plot goes next. They are hilarious man. Can be a tricky drink situation at intermission but the bartenders flew! They were on their game for sure. Bring a date, a bachelor/bachelorette party, or family (above 21 of course) to this fun event they do Friday and Saturday nights. You won't regret it! read more
