Let me just say, you come for the act, not the club. I come here to see Sammy Obeid and hes amazing. The food is mid at best. I wish there would invest in better quality food and better NA options. Would love to see mocktails on the menu as well as coke zero. The people that work here are nice but the quality of the space and food isnt it. I don't think I've ever had a cocktail here so cant speak to the quality of the drinks. My wife and I went to see Ron Pearson and the show was great! The club was really clean including the men's restroom which usually is a mess in most places. The service was spot on from the front door to the table with a great waitress. Eat before you go unless you are just going for the drinks and laughs because the food menu is small and the food mostly snacks. The parking and finding the place was horrible though. I thought we were going to miss the show trying to find the correct parking garage. It's really confusing. Overall though the show was wonderful and I wish I remembered the name of the comedian that opened because he did a pretty good job also. read more

Any comedy club is tight, but I feel Hyena's really squeezes you in there to the point of discomfort. Sure, I'm a 5'10 hefty woman but I've never been able to completely let my limbs hang without touching another person. The whole two dollar minimum ordeal doesn't bother me---most comedy clubs are like that. I've been to this location four times, and on every single occasion, I wished the comedy act I came to see, performed at the Addison Improv instead. Improv isn't as tight and has better food options. Overall the show itself was good, good lineup of comedians leading to the main event. My only real concern is the place itself. It was a bit difficult to locate when coming through the downstairs parking as there is another location there with the same address 5321. Once there, it was mandatory to order 2 drinks.. it was a packed house waitresses almost tripping over each other and they kept going back and forth which was quite distracting throughout the performances.. Acts can be hit or miss but the staff at the club and front of house are always on point. I've had to call the office a couple of times and it can be hard to get someone on the phone during the day (totally understandable for a venue that's open normally from 8pm-midnight). Once you are in thought, it has a comedy cellar vibe going on. Tables super close together where you are seated with strangers and super random decor (weird starburst looking sconces anyone?!?). The food and drinks are super basic bar fare but they get the job done. They normally have 2 shows thurs-sat nights and you can normally scoop up tickets they day of which is always nice. I've found the local opening acts / MCs to often be better than their headliners which can be disappointing (showcase the local talent!!). The service during the show is always sharp and on point. They promptly let you know about last call and get you closed out before the end of the show. All in all, a good local spot for comedy! read more

OVERCHARING - I'M NOT LAUGHING Hyena's wait staff is a scam! My credit card was charged double the amount of purchase. I purchased 3 drinks at $7.75 each and 2 bottles of water for $3.00 each. I signed for total charge of $37.75 including the tax. 2 days later my credit card was charged $62.27. Of course, I immediately disputed the charge with my bank. My advice is to get a receipt and do not pay with a credit card. Not a funny matter! read more

Started on a bad note when we arrived. Tickets state that doors open 1 hour before show. They were seating but charging you $5 ticket extra to be seated immediately. The other choice is wait 30 minutes until 6:30 and be seated. Seems like a scam to get more money from the customers. Just charge the extra $5 with the ticket. Venue is nice. The waitress was nice and prompt. Drinks were good. Not sure I would return because of the extra money they charged. read more

The food was horrible. After waiting for for over an hour our brisket nachos finally arrived. The brisket was chopped so fine that it was nowhere near a serving. The cheese was slim and cold. It's a requirement of each guest to purchase 2 items, I'm sure that's why the food is horrible. The drinks were full juice and not worth the price. read more

I came to Hyena Comedy Club alone, hoping for a good night, but it turned into a frustrating experience. Early on, I noticed an entire group of people walk out. One of the comedians asked why they were leaving, and someone replied, "It's not you it's the service here." That should've been my warning sign. When it was time to pay my bill I paid my bill, I asked for a receipt and never got one. Later, I saw I had been double charged either due to theft or because they charged me for someone else. I've already disputed the charge with my bank. I will never return to this club, and I'd strongly advise others to think twice before going. read more

I've been going to a lot of comedy shows this past year so I've seen a lot of the comedy clubs in DFW. This has to be one of my favorites! First of all, parking is easy. I sometimes have a meltdown when I have to find parking in a busy downtown area, so I'm appreciative that it is located in a shopping center. The place is pretty small, so there's no bad seats. The employees are super friendly, the food is okay from what I hear (I don't eat a lot at comedy shows). If you ever plan on trying out a comedy show, I would definitely recommend Hyena's! read more

A friend had invited me as she had won some free tickets and who doesn't like a good laugh? We arrived and the line was out the door however they were able to move the line quickly and get everyone seated. They club has a required 2 minimum purchase and they automatically add a tip to your tab. On this occasion we were seated in a decent spot however the volume on the sound system seemed to be off as it seemed like the comedians were screaming into the mic. I ordered a daiquiri that was horrible, however the waitress was quick to take it off my tab and I kept it simple with a beer. The opening comedians had me worried about what was to come however when the main comedian got started, the laughs were rolling in. There was another show so we were rushed out and told to hurry up and leave. (Guess they got our money and therefore customer service was no longer a priority). This venue seems smaller than the other ones, however as I said, if you are looking for a laugh, this place is a good place to go. read more

It was a nice time! I totally recommend. The bad thing is that no matter what you pay Whether it is regular price tickets or discounted price tickets on Groupon or even if you have free entrance you still have to purchase two items from the menu even if you aren't thirsty or hungry. Also if you go there hungry you cannot order more than the two items. Their brisket sliders are really good. Make sure to check what's in your drink before ordering. I ordered a margarita which was good but it had Jose Cuervo in it and made me feel sick to my stomach after only drinking half of it. Also DO NOT pay for preferred seating unless you want to sit in the very front which is too close to the stage. Overall we like Hyena's. They send free tickets on a semi-regular basis if you sign up for emails. Some people are complaining in reviews about being surprised by the 2 item per person minimum in the showroom, but the minimum is clearly stated on the free ticket emails on the comedian flyers. If guests don't read the full email & flyers, that's not the comedy club's fault. I highly advise googling the comedians before attending a show if you're not familiar with them. Many shows consist of pretty crude humor, so make sure you're going to a show that is appropriate for you & your guests. I don't mind buying 2 items, but it would be really nice if they had 2 items that I actually want. The food choices are very limited and pretty bad. Think football stadium food. If you're on a diet at all, plan on buying 2 bottled waters. Food choices consist of fried frozen chicken strips, fried frozen taquitos, mozzarella sticks, sub-par fries, nachos (that term is used loosely, it's super soggy tortilla chips drowned in nasty 'cheese' sauce probably from a can), and onion rings. I would love to see better food options. I would actually order a lot more if they offered decent food. The food is also way over priced for what it is. I would love to see them change their menus and quality of food to be more similar to that if dine-in movie theaters. read more

The show we went to was not all that crowded but the lack of security ended up having it be more of a two way shows with ignorant folks in the audience. Not too bad of a comedy club located a bit outside of downtown Dallas. Hyena's comedy club is similar to the Improv brand of comedy clubs without the high profile performers/prices. The club itself is laid out nicely and the food items are not very good, which essentially is par for the course at comedy clubs. As usual, there is a two item minimum per person, so it's best to eat before or after and just grab drinks to fulfill your 2 item minimum... Overall, this place is a fun spot to get your comedy fix. I would like JB Yowell to address my concerns about what is happening at Hyenas Dallas and I would appreciate a response to the following grievances. I am a regular customer who has been going to Hyenas Dallas for 10+ years, my friends and I have been going very regularly during this time, sometimes attending 4 times per month. Just taking a low average for 2 people(attending 2x per month), we have spent well over $24,000. I have brought with me during this time at least a hundred friends, so the amount my friends and I have spent is MAJOR. During those years, I have seen several managers, waitresses, and staff come and go. Being a regular, I was used to being greeted with smiles, handshakes, and hugs when the staff saw me come in. Something has happened since the new manager by the name of Nate has been hired. The place is now being ran in a Nazi-style manner, where people are not allowed to sit in their customary seats (even though they are available), if a friend is running late we can no longer save them a seat, and I see people saying their large groups are not being allowed to sit close to each other. I have never been nicely greeted with a smile by Nate, no friendly banter, no "great to see you back" or personality whatsoever. I have never seen Nate smile, ask customers how they are doing, have any kind of personal conversation or interaction with any customers at all. This is a comedy club, the staff should be happy and friendly, because we are there to laugh and have fun. This place was great in the past, but there is now an overbearing, sullen, hostile mood in the place since Nate has taken over. I also want to say that the comedians have not been very good in the past six months or so. In fact, some of them have not been funny at all. About 4 months ago, a friend and I were at the show, the place was not crowded at all, so until someone was seated at the table with us, we were seated opposite each other. The waitress brought 2 girls over to sit at the table, my friend asked the girls if they wanted to sit side by side or back to front, but the girl was obviously high or drunk because she just starred into space and did not answer, after some time passed, my friend just went ahead and moved next to me, but at the same time she was moving, the two girls walked away to the other side of the room. Problem with this, was that the waitress could not see what exactly was happening because the girls were behind her. So, the waitress left and went and told Nate the Mgr. Nate the Manager came over and gave us a lecture about how the seating arrangement had to be. Of course, we explained what had happened, but he had his mind made up that we were not following the seating "rules." When my favorite waitress heard about what was going on, she did talk to Nate and she told him I am a regular customer for 10 years and that I have NEVER caused any problems whatsoever. I am thinking her name is Christine (but am bad with names). She has been there for 10+ years with long blond hair and normally wears it in a ponytail. Then, maybe 3 months ago, we were seated and a 3rd friend was running late, so I asked Nate if we could save her a seat, he rudely said NO. So, I texted my friend not to come, since I did not want her to have to sit alone or for us to have to move to the back of the room. Turns out, the crowd was super low and they never sat anyone with us at our table. I am sure that Nate would have known what a low turnout night it would be per the reservations made, so he would have known they would not need that chair, so he basically just cost you $60+ dollars in revenue that night. Then, Oct 22nd, two friends and I were being seated by Nate, so we started to go to our regular table which was OPEN (we literally have been sitting at this same table for the past year and Nate has seen that we sit there). So, when I saw Nate was taking us to the opposite side of the room, I asked him if we could sit at our regular table which was open and once again, he rudely said NO. So, we sat down, then Nate brought another couple to sit in the same area as us and he said it so we could hear it, asking the couple where in the area they wanted to sit. We were talking amongst ourselves about how rude he was being and he comes over to our table and squats down and says do I need to call the cops on ya'll, and we're like what the heck is wrong with this guy, we have done absolutely nothing wrong. I then proceed to tell him that I am a regular customer for 10 years and have never been treated like this by the former managers and staff, I said they were extremely nice and accommodating to guests and Nate said, "yes, but they were all drunks and he could care less about regulars." First very disappointed with the club. We drove over a little more than an hour. Had free tickets to last night's show so when we got there they said they sold more tickets than they expected. My point is why offer free tickets and have u make reservations and don't honor them. It would be nice for them to tell us up front we might not get in ahead of time. My friends and I have been coming here for a while now and have enjoyed it each time. They find great comedians, some better than the others but still a fun night out! The wait staff has always been friendly, quick, and helpful. They have a variety of drink choices, something for everyone! They even change out specialty drinks monthly. This months theme was St. Patrick's day. The prices are reasonable. There's a two item minimum, similar to other comedy clubs. They also have a special where if you sign up, you can win tickets for a specific weekend. They typically give you two weekend show choices. Parking can be a little hard, especially for a Saturday night. They suggest arriving early. The line typically moves quickly once they call everyone to line up to be seated. All in all, it's a fun place for a night out with friends. read more

Pros Ambience Menu Options Comedy Cons Spacing Comedy Pricing I had been to this location once before but it was years ago, long before my yelping days, actually I don't think YELP existed, but this time around I went on a whim with an invite from a friend. The ambience here is very nice, its a quiet and adult location, contradicting the actual name of the place. You feel the mature vibes and the low lighting is good on the eyes. The menu options are very nice with foods, they had several variations on nachos, dips, and some brisket sliders. The drinks came in plenty (I don't drink) so for all of my yelpies that like to indulge in beverages, there is definitely not a shortage on options for you. Most impressive was the comedy (DUH), there were a total of three comedians with the last being the headliner, this was pretty good being able to eat good food, and laugh while you do it. The comedians are also pretty interactive as well so it all works out. On the negative side, there was very little spacing, if you moved a knee or anything it might crash into someone. A fart in the room could literally kill the guy in the back corner opposite of you. It's very small on the spacing side but hey don't let that deter you. Looping back to the comedy, while it is funny, remember all sense of humor is different so some of the adult oriented jokes might offend you, but hey that's part of the business. Last but not least this place isn't cheap and there is also a mandatory 2 item purchase and a 15% gratuity automatically added to your order no matter what you get. They make sure the waitresses and waiters are compensated, but I think it tends to make them slack a little knowing they will be paid either way.... Overall the experience was good, I was able to laugh and enjoy myself along with my company. read more

This review is about the venue not the talent. Talent was great. My wife and I purchased preferred seating way in advance. We get to the venue, there is a 2 item minimum for guests which is pretty much standard. I buy 2 Red Bulls and a beer at the bar. We get inside and we're sat in the rear. This is 20 mins prior to the start of the show. Guy tells us they seat preferred first but since we were late that we were sat behind people who paid less (general admission). Then we buy some nachos that were decent. We're enjoying the show and the waitress comes over and asked what else we want to buy because we haven't fulfilled the 2 item per person minimum. I tell her we literally bought the Red Bulls and the beer immediately before walking in to the showroom. So those plus the nachos and we're good. Nope not here. She continues to tell us we need to order 3 more things. We went back and forth until I asked her to come back later so we can enjoy the show. Sure enough her stance didn't change. We end up buying 3 $3 bottles of water for nothing. This should have been handled on a case by case and an exception to this dumb rule should have been made. It's not like I brought the items in with me. They were purchased within the same establishment. Pick a different venue or just stay home and watch comedy shows on Netflix. read more

I read reviews AFTER buying tickets to Pauly Shore and was a little scared, but we thoroughly enjoyed it. We had a party of 4 and had great seats (not that there is a bad seat there though). The drinks were good, waitress was great and the place was clean to include bathrooms. All in all it was great. Only complaint would be that they need better signage to find it. It's upstairs and you just have to guess where to go since you can't see it from downstairs. Lots of complaints in other reviews for rude people and managers.
