Stopped in to maybe do some tasting about 4:15. Walked into the tasting room. it didn't look like there was anyone at the tasting bar doing any tasting, however there were several people at the end of the bar hovering over some paperwork. We weren't greeted in any manner. We walked outside lots of people on the grass having fun playing corn hole the weather was beautiful. We stood out there looking around, came back inside stood there for maybe a Minute or two, still no greeting no one looked up or offered to help us in anyway. So, we turned around and left. Mary Kay was so sweet and helpful when tasting & recommending the various wines. We were so excited to visit Four Lanterns for the first time after seeing so many excellent reviews. We were in the Central Valley for a girls trip and my youngest sister was just turning 21 so we were thrilled to get to take her. The property is gorgeous and the wines we tasted were all excellent. We were rather disappointed by the "help" we got from Mary who seemed to hastily conclude that our group would not appreciate the complexity of the wines or be an asset to their business. We were treated condescendingly and given little attention compared to the other guests doing tastings. We were told there would be 5 wines to taste and after 4 we were approached and rudely told "unless you're going to buy a bottle you're done." Even when she brought back the fifth wine, she somehow forgot to pour for the whole party and left my glass empty as she returned to entertain her other table. I was very disappointed as I was specifically looking for quality vineyards to join and ended up joining other memberships instead. Hopefully it was an off-day, but I wouldn't risk bringing my friends here and being treated poorly again. There's no shortage of good wine in CA, so we'll be taking our business where it is appreciated. read more

I drove for 6 hours to come to this winery and it did NOT disappoint. Meagan was my server and was AMAZING. She is so knowledgeable, the sweetest and so fun to talk to, made the experience so much better! Loved the live music and the dog was adorable. We were first time wine tasters and very nervous about wine tasing but Meagan made us feel so comfortable. Definitely recommend visiting and asking for Meagan! We came here for the reds! Almost everything was a hit with us! I especially enjoyed the Merlot/Cab blend with 2% Tempranillo. We tasted outside and the landscaping is super pretty. I have enjoying Four Lanterns winery fine wines for years. My last visit was in August 2020, in the middle of a heat wave and Covid-19 nightmare. I was celebrating my 45th birthday and my 8-year wedding anniversary that day. I didn't know what to expect, due to the Covid-19 concerns and the heat wave. Many wineries just canceled their afternoon appointments, due to the heat wave that day. I had, one of the few afternoon reservations that day. Jacky waited for me and my spouse and kept the place open just to honor my birthday and our wedding anniversary. I really like their exceptional wines and beautifully arranged wine tasting area. Truly perfect. My husband and I spent several days in Paso Robles with friends, and at the end of the trip we all agreed this was our favorite. It was our first stop of the trip, and we were the first ones there when they opened. We all wish we'd gone back again later! The wines were fantastic, the people were friendly, and the grounds were fun and charming and beautiful. We met the owner and had a long wonderful talk with her and the woman who poured for us. They were so genuine and friendly and helped us plan out our time in Paso that it was in fact hard to leave and continue on the rest of our tour. When the tasting was over we wandered outside. We played a bit of cornhole, to the delight of our British friends who'd never heard of it. They lit the fire pit for us even though it was only about noon, and invited us to stay as long as we liked, and also take as many persimmons from their tree as we could carry. And they meant it! They helped us pick them! We ate a lot of persimmons with cheese boards and wine during the rest of our trip. Can't wait to come back here. Oh! And we're saving our bottle of Apricity for just the right evening. Very much looking forward to that, and we now often talk about the name of that wine: It means the feeling of being warmed by the sun. How can you not fall in love with a place that teaches you a new word while you drink delicious wine? read more

I am so pleased we stopped here! I knew from their website it was the type of wine I most like but I was really blown away. Lighter, Rhône style wines including my absolute favorite viognier. Sextant is my other favorite winery in Paso area, after my first wine club shipment from here I'll try to decide who is my favorite! They were renovating the barn tasting room when we came so we were in a little room behind it but it was still nice and the staff was great. When the barn reopens they'll be plenty of room for lots of people. I won't speak to food or other offerings since that might change but they had places to sit outside. read more

They have live music and a food truck (at least on the Sunday that I was there)! I think it was the husband and wife that own the place, and they were ridiculously nice people. My partner and I were in the area for the first time, and they pulled out a map (and their iPad) and made a few really great recommendations of other tasting rooms to visit. We left with a few bottles, I couldn't resist, they were delicious. A very dry Rose, which I had always associated with being too sweet, but theirs is perfect - especially as summer approaches and you crave something refreshing. What a cute place. This boutique winery has a warm environment, and like most others, the winemaker was present in his tasting room. There was just a genuine feel to this stop. It felt like home. The wines are all named along with the Four Lanterns theme. And the cause for these lanterns? The winemakers four daughters of course. My wife and I were drawn in to hear all about this label. Often there are quirky stories as to why a wine carries a name, but more times than not it isn't that interesting. And maybe I'm a sap, but I fell for the romantics involved here. What a legacy to base off children, his lanterns to the path of life.... We enjoyed an array of blends; ended up buying a bottle of Fire Light. It's a marvelously down Syrah. The wine was a tad pricey, but I didn't mind spending a bit more to be apart of this operation. Well done guys! read more

Smaller of some of the places you will stop on the highway. Very inviting and friendly staff. We came in right as they opened the owner still cleaning welcomed us in. Got some suggestions for a couple wines they had to try that day. After a little bit another couple came in that happened to be from the same area we are, ended up getting quite a few extra tastes in. This was a great surprise during our trip to Paso last month. They were extremely cautious and safe with all the COVD protocols required and it is such a beautiful property with plenty of shade for those hot days. And of course the wine...must go to are the sparkling rosé, kharis, Chenin Blanc and the Cab Franc. All of them were amazing but those really stood out. Thank you for an amazing time!!! read more

Such a cute outdoor setting. I mostly enjoyed their wine, but I couldn't really tell you much about the wine because our server just poured wine and handed us a book to read about it on our own. Pretty much no motivation to talk to us or express excitement about the wine they were pouring. Probably won't be back for this reason, but that's because we personally prefer a more interactive experience but understand some other customers prefer being left alone the entire time. read more

I personally like pinot noir, but they didn't have any something comparable to it but missed the variety. $15 each to wine taste 5 wines, generous pours. Atmosphere was relaxed. The old wooden building was quaint and inviting, we all wondered to the back garden (four couples) the owner Steve saw us and invited us inside the winnery gave us a tour and explained the process. I gave it 2 star because our waitress was very sweet and personable. Well versed in the wines, so not her fault she was doing her best under the circumstances. Wine is fair to good, prices were high. My beef was $25 for tasting barely a half glass. . If you wished to wave the tasting fee, you had to purchase 3 bottles EACH or join their wine club! Wines weren't that good compared to other wineries we visited. So after we didn't receive our 5th pour and the 4 of us were sitting waiting we decided to leave. We went inside to pay, I'll give them credit everyone left at the same time,so maybe a staffing or just not seeing the big picture. We paid $100 +$7.+ ( we gave the staff member cash tip so no idea why the extra-tax?- unbelievable)for a tasting, and left feeling very disappointed - it was my husbands birthday.
