I've been here a couple times to stay at the hotel and about a dozen times to gamble. The guest rooms are spacious and nicely appointed. Beds are comfortable and they have a great shower. During the week days I've been able to get some comped nights which is always appreciated. The gaming floor is large and spread out. They have all the new slot machines including my favorites like Huff n Puff and Jumanji. They also have table games including blackjack, craps, three card poker, etc. There is no smoking inside on the gaming floor but they do have a sectioned off room for smokers. They have a high-end steakhouse called Copper Rock as well as several casual dining options. Their buffet is excellent. I've enjoyed the prime rib several times. What I like about their buffet is it doesn't go on and on. They focus on the good stuff that people like and they're always turning over fresh food so nothing sits out for long. Absolutely hated our check-in here. We arrived at about 4:40pm to check into our two rooms. Shaun 6646-F took my credit card and ID for both rooms but informed me that one room wasn't ready yet. Since it was well past 4pm, I thought that was odd. He clearly felt it was odd that I should want the rooms I'd paid for to be ready on arrival. He said they would give me a text when the room was ready. We dumped our luggage in the one room that was ready and then went to have dinner. By 7:15pm, we were really sweating as we hadn't got a text yet. We went back to the desk and Shaun 6646-F was still there. He acted like he'd never seen us before when I asked if our room was ready. Shaun took my ID again and said no, room wasn't ready. Rough ETA was maybe 30 minutes to an hour. But it was already almost 7:30pm by that point. Either you've lost our reservation or you have a room. Again, Shaun acted like we were being the unreasonable ones. Finally, a manager got us a second room, but he didn't offer an apology. So I ate at the casino buffet but did not play at the casino. Invited to a birthday dinner. I'm not a buffet person but I enjoyed some delish shrimp that I was able to grab right as it was coming to the buffet. I also had several very unique and amazing flavors of gelato that was not self serve. $20 is not bad for all that you get. $10 4-10 yo. 3 and under free. I suppose it's convenient for those playing at the casino. We were there on a Sunday and it closed at 8pm. Plenty of parking and it was free and easily accessible. read more

Brought family here for a baseball tournament. They closed the out door pool due to poor air quality. Yet the public zoo was open. Kids had nothing to do. TV's say you can cast to them, and we couldn't. Hardly anything to watch. Asked manager if they could credit us or something and just got a no. read more

I just checked out of the hotel today, in which I stayed two nights. Hey, I have great things to say about the South Bend location. First off, it's new and clean, so I like it better than the New Buffalo one. Plus, I experienced bad customer service in New Buffalo, and at South Bend, they are much nicer. I had a double queen room and it was nice and comfy. It had a huge window with a nice view. It was very clean. I'm not much of a gambler, but I can say the casino was nice. It seems roomier than New Buffalo, but very similar. I ate here a few times at Timbers and at other branches. It's all the same, just fast-food options. We tried to eat at the restaurant a couple times, but the wait was about 1.5 to 2 hours. So, make a reservation if you want to eat there. I used the fitness center during my stay, and it was clean. There were a lot of exercise machines and weights for a decent workout. The pool was closed, so I can't speak on it. Now, the annoying thing about my stay was the hammering early in the morning. I stayed on the 6th floor and it sounded like someone was hammering next door. When I reported it to the front desk, they said that there was construction on the 3rd floor. Well, it sure sounded loud, and why do this early in the morning? They apologized and said other people were complaining too! Okay, Four Winds, listen to your guests! My friend had a discounted rm and from past experience, we looked under the mattress right away. We'll the bed bugs scattered and we were on the phone to the desk. So it was my fist time at a casino playing the game king, my new bride loves playing roulette on her phone and has been going to Four Winds for sometime. I was unaware that the games are only meant to take one bill at a time. I thought they had a counting mechanism like ATMs. Dumb move on my part an if they would have just told me you get nothing, I would have dropped it. But my wife insisted that these things can happen and to call service. Service came and when he opened the machine, the floor boss or whatever, one of my twenties was just sitting there. He gave it back to me. Then I peered over his head and there was an all my other twenties. He refused to even take the money out of the machine. It was clearly not where it was supposed to be. He said he had to review the footage with security. He came back and completely lied to me about how they only saw me inserting $1 bills on security. That is false. This happened 5/2 between 1 and 3pm. The game was turned off afterward because it was obviously storing money where it shouldn't, sucking in a ton of bills. I think the management should review this because this may be happening quite a bit and whoever collects the money could take those dollars because the computer isn't counting them and I doubt I am the only one to make that mistake. The fact that he gave me the one twenty that was on top but wouldn't even count the other money once I pointed it out lacks transparency a the feedback from the security footage was incorrect. I am coming to South Bend for work. Upon checking hotels in the area, Four Winds was actually the most reasonably priced so I figured I would stay there and have access to the restaurants and new hotel rooms. I saw on the website that at 9:00 p.m., your reservation for the hotel would be canceled if you're not there by that time. I called and the representative was very pleasant on the phone and did explain that yes, the reservation would be canceled, that they could "try" to see if a late check-in would be "approved." If not, I could cancel the reservation. I do not want to be in South Bend later than 9:00 p.m. trying to find a new hotel if late check-in is not approved and I'm staying somewhere else. Consequently, the Four Winds lost out on two nights' stay, restaurant business, and perhaps a little gambling. read more

I posted a review and it disappeared....interesting. I posted how the machines are tight and everyone was complaining that the payouts are TERRIBLE. I spent over $2,000 (My average monthly) in January and as of February 1st They took away My free play,My free rooms AND The Gifts I got on Saturdays. Guess you have to spend well over that to keep up with the greed. I as well asked several people I know and they are saying the same. Spent over $150 on machines a week ago and when they hit -Paid $2.60 and one had 34 free plays and won $6.00. Again updating what I said before the machines are not paying out and now they are now taking away all your perks. Came here for my birthday weekend, deciding to try a different Four Winds. The closest to me is the New Buffalo location, which I never win big at, so gave South Bend a try. Besides there not being a valet person upon checking in our room, the front desk people were able to assist us in finding someone to help us park. At first, I was overwhelmed at how many machines there were, so we decided to play minimal the first night and have dinner and watch sports instead. The second day, we played most of the day. I not only got my first hand pay, but everyone around me seemed to be winning too. You can hear the winning machine alarms go off every few seconds. After that, I won a few more times in the hundreds, which was super rare for me. Of course, I played to my heart's content and gave a lot of money back, but that's what gambling is for. My husband plays roulette and though he didn't win big, he was able to play for 2 days straight and go home breaking even, which is rare for him. Terrible experience at the Copper Rock Bar. Stopped in thinking I would take a nice break from gambling and order an appetizer and have a few drinks but I was greeted by the rudest, most disrespectful and unfriendly bar tender imaginable. It was as if I wasn't even there and I was a burden to her. The couple sitting next to me witnessed her treatment of me and couldn't believe it. It wasn't busy at the time. After 15 minutes, she finally rudely asked what I wanted, ripped the cap off a bottle of beer and slammed it down. I just got up and left. I really like this casino compared to the one in Anderson, IN. It's not as noisy and is very well lit. I love that the pop machines here have Coca-Cola products too. The games are fun, the atmosphere is nice, and I even got a free popcorn maker once! read more

Beware! I put $20 in a slot machine and won $500! When I went to cash out, they would not pay me as they said the machine had a glitch. Said they watched the security videos and that the person before left the money in the machine and that when they cashed out not all the credits were erased. South bend location. The second time I've had money left in a machine and someone came up and played my machine while I went to get money from the atm. Today (8/13) and about 1yr ago. I was told by several slot attendants that they do not watch machines. I was told to turn my chair around so I that's what I did. The first time it was solved with security and slot attendant. I got my money back after they reviewed that I indeed had money left in the machine, with my players card and the chair turned around. Today was a different story. Slot supervisor and slot attendant told me to "always cashout and turning your chair does not matter." Security says because it was only $13 it was to low for them to investigate/look any further. So my lost. Both slot supervisor and slot attendant came and pushed some buttons on a screen left and never even came back to explain anything to me. Only the security guard (Mike) who just said $13 is not enough for them to look into it. $13 or $130 it's still money. How does four winds expect their customers to use the restrooms, go get money from the atm or grab a drink? Been gambling for over 20yrs and this has only ever happen at South Bend Four Winds....Twice. Word to the wise if you have to leave your machine to go to the restroom, grab a drink or go to the atm. Just cashout and hope that the machine is still available if you want to play it when you get back. Turning the chair around doesn't mean anything and if they deem it a measly amount you won't get anything done. This isn't all on four winds but if I'm gaming in your establishment and spending money and issue occurs. I would've expected a better handling on the matter. First time at this location. Aside from the layout it is exactly the same as New Buffalo. Obviously since the hotel is new the rooms are brand new. They smell nice and are clean but like I said the exact same as the other location. The casino is a little more dense with gaming but there's plenty of machines to play even on a Saturday night. We ate at Timbers which was similar to other location. If we come back here we will try the steakhouse or buffet. Despite no storms last night the power in our room went out 3 times which woke us up each time. It was expected Friday night with storms and it went out a bunch. They have no ADA compliant rooms even though we specifically told them we needed a ADA compliant room. They said they have them but they are all unavailable and they don't feel it's necessary to tell people they don't follow the law. What possible reason could they have to not follow the law? No I.D. checks, at any point... given it was around 11 AM when I was there but that is no excuse! To GAMBLE you must be 21. I'm not usually a 'stickler' on much but this lack of attentiveness by staff can carry huge consequences. Be better Four Winds. I did not try the food based off of other reviews I had seen. So I have nothing good to say nor any criticism to write about based on food. Casino much nicer and much larger than 4 winds new Buffalo. We stayed for 3 days and enjoyed restaurants , cedar spa, the pool and much gambling. Nice change over new Buffalo 4 winds. All staff everywhere was spot on! Especially compared to new Buffalo staff. They need to take some lessons in customer service from south bend. Only downfall about south bend was the tiny pool area. We did take advantage of my 3 complimentary nights which cost us at least $1300 per night 11/3/23-11/6/23 Our dissatisfaction is that we stay up late to gamble as it's more relaxing for us seniors when less occupied. The morning of my check out right before 6 am as I was going to our room I stopped at the hotel desk to ask about a late check out for noon. The young lady behind the desk asks my room number and looks into the computer, asks my name and then says" I'm sorry, we do not have any availability for late check out." I asked availability for what? She replied to have the rooms ready for check-ins as soon as possible. Monday? Funny, they have plenty of availability for this day. She was a terrible liar. First, you didn't need my room number to tell me that. You looked to see if my room was complimentary, in other words, free. Sadly we all know that they are NOT free seeing it cost me at the least $1300 each night x 3. Yes, it's an insult that we as a customer and the $4000 we spent isn't good enough to give us 1 additional hour. This was our first visit here and we WERE planning on returning but I think we're appreciated much more at Blue Chip. At first we loved it here but this has left us with a bitter taste. This situation had me reconsider our stay as "worth it" We had no winnings to brag about and the hotel room walls are thin as I could hear my neighbor's cell phone ring and all of their conversations along with them snoring. I don't understand the whining about the buffet price ‍ It's pretty reasonable, and the variety offered isn't bad at all. No table games yet, due to licensing issues with the state. I'm hopeful that changes. Far too many shady locals, and thug types from South Bend's west side, just "hanging out". A lot of times, it appears that the homeless crowd stops by for free coffee, or to panhandle guests playing the slots, unbeknownst to casino staff and security. This can lead to an uneasy "keep your hands on your wallet or purse" type of feeling. It's just not good for business. The hotel is in progress, so there's that. At least they're trying. If I were basing this review on winnings they'd get 5 stars because I'm up pretty nicely. That said, the employees in general appear like they aren't happy to be here and it shows. Especially the bartender, Alex. The guy has the worst attitude of any bartender that I've ever encountered. He doesn't address you when you arrive. He acts like you're inconveniencing him when you ask for a straw. He's condescending in his tone. If his attitude was as nice as the decor then he might smile but his treatment alone is why I'll steer clear of this place and you should too. read more

Attended a christmas party and decided to stay in the hotel even though I live locally so I could leisurely get ready and go to casino before and after the party. I was told it would take an hour or an hour and l a half after regular check in (at 4) which was after my party started. That did not make me happy and it made me late for my party. The condom wrapper under the coffee pot did not make me happy either. I talked to management before I left but have not heard anything since. I would not go back or recommend if you Have a timely event to attend. read more

We were really in a bind, because we had our days mixed up on our reservations at both Four Winds hotels. I must say that they worked with us and found us a room when some guests decided to cancel reservations. Tony at the front desk was particularly helpful. We were frequent visitors before covid , and not as often as before. I will say they have earned our continued patronage. Plus the rooms are beautiful and impeccably clean.
