Fox 31 News is the epitome of bad reporting. Fear mongering, xenophobic teasers followed by b.s. stories that don't even address the anxiety-inducing intros. "Why you might die from the measles, and what you can do to prevent it, after the break." 20 minutes later, "So and so got the measles and got really sick." Filler filler filler, images of sick measle patient. "This could happen to you." No mention of how to prevent your own *imminent* death by measles. I wonder how they sleep at night. Do they really think they're doing the people of Colorado a service by constantly instilling fear in our hearts? I won't even mention their treatment of politics: Bush, foreign policy, events abroad. I find it interesting that all the efforts in gun control and requiring background checks for individuals purchasing guns has nothing to do with what is happening in society today. The recent shooting near East High school killing a student, how would a background check prevented the shooting. How about the 12 year-old person stealing a car from north Denver and having a shootout with the car owner and eventually dying from his wounds near 12th Ave. and Decatur, the area near several blocks away from the RTD light rail station located where several people of color assaulted a passenger getting off the train. How about the two teenagers, one with a gun and the other with a machete invading a home in Northglenn involved in a shootout with the homeowner resulting in both suspects shot and killed. How about the street racer, a 19 year-old suspect who shot and killed an assistant Glen Haven fire chief on I-70. How about the three 16 year-olds involved in the shooting at Hinkley High School where two students were shot. How about the six year-old who was mad at his teacher and ended up shooting the teacher. The blame is always the gun's fault. I can place my gun on the hood of my car and stare at it to see if it will fire by itself. I don't think so. Tell me, how does background checks or any other effort to ban guns in general would have prevented these shootings. Where's the parents. You have people in Boulder and Broomfield counties wanting to be the typical kumbaya touchy-feely society by doing away with guns making honest and responsible gun owners criminals. For those law makers who wish to do away with guns or make it difficult for responsible gun owners to be in possession of one, it sucks to be you if you need help. With the increase in violence by people with the use of a firearm in car jackings, burglaries, robberies and other crimes, our primadonna law makers who feel that he or she is sheltered for any violence. Ask Paul Pelosi how that worked out for him. With this all said, KVDR is very biased on it reporting. read more

Honestly, I'm shook they have a yelp page!! But I personally don't take their stories too seriously, they are generally a very entertaining channel when you wake up in the morning. I love their gorgeous weather lady: Sam Boik, Megan and Kirk are very friendly by their presentation. You can tell they have fun with their broadcasting. They joke around while doing reports. They have lots of small segments when they're talking about food, saving money, deal of the day, weather, traffic. They show their cutest pet and it's this adorable little dog that they gave into their shelter for adoption. Like why not? I love how they touched on our fallen deputies, given today, I saw they had a donation project going on for enforcing our officers protection by having a hotline to donate money to them. I do enjoy the mornings and waiting for them to say something funny. Overall a good channel. Not as far fetched as people overreact it. read more

I have lived in Colorado for 23 years and lived in North Dakota for the prior 25-- to hear Chris Tanaka "slam" North Dakota on last nights Rockies segment was gut wrenching. Don't kid yourself Chris- there are plenty of beautiful areas in ND as well as Colorado--some of the most amazing scenery is located in the Badlands ..I would ask you to try it you might like it-- but we'd rather not see your type there so take that detour you recommended-- we won't mind in the least! I encourage you to get to know the state before you slam it publically. As much as I despise Rupert Murdoch and his media monopoly, I've got to say this is the local station I watch the most. Why? Two Seinfelds a day, Family Guy and American Dad on the weekends, football in the fall and summer and the occasional Rockies game in the summer. read more

KDVR is not broadcasting the scheduled NFL pre-game and Vikings-Packers game this morning, instead they are showing some terrible western. There is no way to contact anyone at the station. All numbers drop you into voicemail. Seems as though someone forgot to do their job today. read more

What I really dislike about this station is the fact that they have good stories about businesses but they have Dan Deru telling the stories and that is like listening to a six year old. Adults watch the news. If I owned a business I would not want it promoted by Dan. The other thing is Kirk Yunke telling everybody that they stay live and local while all the other stations go pre taped out of New York. What I can find is that channel 9/20 are still live and local. Other stations go to Business reports "NOT NEWS" and yes they are probably taped and come out of New York. Maybe I am wrong but I change over to 9 or 20 and they seem like they are live in Denver after 7am. read more

I have not watched the news much on this channel but I do know that FOX has always had programming that had more flair,bite, polish and verve than the other free channels out there. The Simpsons still hold a high place in people's hearts and therefore shows why it has such longevity. There are plenty of other shows out there too on FOX that just have an edge over everybody else. In some cases these shows give some of the cable shows a run for their money. If you get a signal in CO hope you get FOX as far as TV shows go. read more

Fox 31 has it's ups and downs as far as their news goes. I mean there is only so much I can take of Ron Zappolo and Libby Weaver chatting as if they're at some boring dinner party instead of actually reporting the news. I don't wish to hear your opinions after every single news story! The sports department is horrible, Zubin and Josina just don't do sports they way it should be done. Though they're not as bad as a couple of other stations in the area of who I wont mention names (2 and 9) or should I say channel numbers. Where Fox 31 has it going on is in the mornings. Peggy Bunker and Crystal Egger are definite eye candy and though I'm not a Fox 31 loyalist, they do make my mornings a little easier to get through before heading out to work. But this is of course after 7am and CBS4 has turned itself over to national morning shows. The entire morning cast, Ken, Shaul, Chris, etc on Fox 31 seem to be pretty down to earth and I like that. And let's not leave out that Dan Daru, he cracks me up! read more

These studios are really lovely, but I don't have anything to judge them against, so I am not sure how helpful my opinion really is. You can park on the street out front and then buzz yourself in through the glass doors, there you will meet a security guard who will call someone to walk down to get you. The elevators are pretty, the building is nice, the green room was small. You can sit on the side of the sets and watch the news being broadcast. 2 words, Chris Parente... and then 2 more, Tom Greene. These guys get me through the morning. read more

I prefer FOX 31 Denver to the other channels for news. The reason I am contacting you now is that I just saw the report on Denver cleaning up Park avenue west just west of Broadway today and I think it is about time, actually I think it is over due. I don't live in Denver , however I do work in Denver just a block away from there {22nd and Broadway} and I drive Park avenue out to I-25 every day. When I drive thru that 2 or 3 block area it reminds me of a third world country. I just want to thank the person that made the decision to do the right thing and clean it up. Zero response. It's obvious serving the public interest is less important than the bottom line. Makes sense why this company is inferior to all the other television stations. I shall contact the CEO that owns 31 for the inconvenience we all had to endure with their broken commitment. January 22nd: No response, no apology, no explanation. SILENCE! I guess their viewers don't matter and are not important. Sigh. January 12, 2016 Ms. Holy Gauntt, Vice President and News Director KWGN-TV 100 East Speer Blvd. Denver, CO 80203 Dear Ms. Gauntt: The coverage of news and human-interest stories that channel two broadcasts was the main reason I chose to inquire if your news department would be interested in covering a story idea that I submitted. Below is the gist of my submission: (Here in Denver there is an 86-year-old internationally known jazz pianist who is plagued with dementia. I pick him up every two weeks and drive him to a restaurant where he sits down at the piano and waits for guests to call out tunes. As soon as he hears the name of the tune, he begins to play it flawlessly. He knows more than four thousand songs, and yet, when I drive him home he has no recollection of having performed. I am a retired psychologist and love music and thought a story about Mr. Wallace would inspire so many people to witness that there is something mysterious about the human mind, that a man can brilliantly play any song that is requested and yet have no memory of having done that. Would you be interested in doing a story about Mr. Wallace? I believe the impact on so many who have family members suffering memory loss would be inspiring.) A few days later, Kevin Torres called and said he very much wanted to do a story about Mr. Wallace. So I immediately went to work to see if the restaurant manager, Janet Poth, could accommodate his request. And she did. She went out of her way to rearrange her performance schedule to allow Mr. Wallace to perform so that Kevin could film the event. The date was set for January 5th, 2016. Ms. Poth then started marketing and spending a considerable amount of time advertising that channel two would be doing a story about the internationally known pianist, Billy Wallace. Many of the guests who attended told me they were there for that reason. On the morning of January 5, 2016, I phoned Kevin as he had requested to give him instructions where he could meet me and to see if there were any last minute concerns he might have. I also called to let him know when I would pick up Mr. Wallace so that Kevin and his cameraman could film Billy and me in the car talking to one another as I drove him to the restaurant. But I soon became puzzled when Kevin did not call back. I waited an hour, two hours, called again, left another message and waited, but nothing. I called Janet, the manager, and it was the same story with her, no call, no explanation. Even more perplexing, I never heard from Kevin again, not during or after the performance. And the next day, no return call to explain, perhaps, or to apologize why he did not show or why he did not return my calls. I waited several more days and had no choice but to reluctantly write this letter. Much to the restaurant manager's humiliation, and my embarrassment, both of us had to inform all the guests that attended that we had no idea why channel two did not follow through. We were repeatedly asked why and we had no answers other than what I described above. Most of the customers announced they were there to observe the filming and I must say, quite angry. Several said that they would never watch KWGN again. Several also said that they would write on-line complaints demanding an explanation. To this day, it remains a puzzle to me why Kevin did not have the professional courtesy to call the manager or me to explain or apologize for not following through especially after I postponed my travel plans to be there for the event. , Which brings me to my point. When I told attendees at the restaurant that I would write this letter they insisted I demand that channel two management remedy this unprofessional and ethically questionable behavior with more than a verbal or written apology for the trouble they went through to support Billy and KWGN-TV by being at the restaurant. They asked me to request that someone else on your staff seriously reconsider doing the Billy Wallace story so that the viewers who have family and friends suffering from cognitive impairment can remain hopeful there are ways they can connect with their loved one. Go outside, check the weather and then go about your business. This is not a national disaster just because it rains, snows, hails. Besides, what can you do.
