If it's your first time at the Phoenix airport, be ready for a long walk to get to the Sky Train. But at least Fox communicated accurate instructions to get to the rental car center, which I appreciated. There was a long line at Fox when my flight landed, but the entire line was gone 20 minutes later. I was impressed with the speed. Until I went downstairs to the Fox Rent A Car booth in the garage where you pick up your rental vehicle and realized they didn't actually have cars ready for all those people. I found tons of customers just standing around, restless and annoyed. Basically, you just have to wait for them to call your name when your car is ready. Obviously they overbooked and couldn't accommodate all of the reservations that were made. Wow... I have no words for how ridiculous that is. This company accepting reservations while not having cars available then having people wait an hour for their rental cars is not okay. Once my name was finally called, after waiting in the hundred degree heat for about 45 minutes, the Fox employee gave me the keys to my rental car and told me the wrong make, model, and location of the vehicle in the garage. I mean, I eventually found it using the key fob, but I'm baffled at how terrible their service was altogether. Fox Rent A Car, PHX Airport. Nov-Dec, 2025. My husband and I were traveling to Arizona and Southern California, and needed to rent a car for about three weeks. Our preference was for a smaller, fuel-efficient car with unlimited mileage since we'd be covering a lot of mileage. (Our total was just under 1,500 miles). We comparison-shopped at on-line travel businesses and Fox was consistently offering the best prices but not the best ratings. That said, we booked our rental through Fox knowing that we could cancel our reservation if our plans or if prices changed. With early booking, we'd at least be guaranteed to have a car if demand were high for our travel dates. Pricing (5/5). Prices did in fact drop from our initial reservation, and we were easily able to cancel the original reservation in order to rebook at the better price. Our reservation was pre-paid when we made the booking. Pickup at PHX. (3/5). We were third in line at the rental counter and reached an associate within 3 minutes. He was efficient but neither friendly nor unfriendly. There was no hard sale to add-on collision insurance or pre-paid gas, but we were surprised that they required a $150 refundable security deposit. (It was returned within two days after we brought the car back). The actual car pickup was down one level, and Fox was a bit hard to find as they were small and tucked in a corner. We got the car (Nissan Versa) quickly, checked for damage (none), took photos, and checked the odometer (about 18,000 miles). It was freshly washed and vacuumed, and had a full tank of gas. Of note, we were pleasantly surprised that the car was the 2025 model and, as mentioned, had fewer than 20k miles. The car performed well and did, as hoped, get great mileage -- about 41 mpg for our trip -- and this wasn't even a hybrid. We encountered two issues: (1) we got a warning message on the final day that the car needed to be serviced for an oil change; and (2) there was a label on the front windshield that stated "do not remove" that was directly in front of the line of sight of the passenger in the car. We would rent from Fox again given the quality of the car we rented, the great price, convenience of picking up and returning the car at the PHX airport, and the fast return of our deposit. This would've been a 5-star rating but for the oil change warning and the irritating label on the front passenger window. read more

Adj: Remarkable So it's remarkable bc it was a surprisingly smooth experience that we had compared to others' reviews. It's not remarkable as in extraordinary. We got to the counter after arriving and then taking the sky train to the rental center. The line was short at the time (it built up after we got there) and we were getting our car pretty quickly. I believe I reserved a compact SUV and we got a VW Taos and it drove well enough even though going up some hills it struggled a little bit, but it had good fuel economy. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!! Their cars are death traps held together by duct tape Do not rent from Fox at Phoenix Sky Harbor. They are handing over completely unsafe, improperly maintained vehicles and hiding critical defects rather than fixing them. First car: Reeked overwhelmingly of cat pee, forcing an immediate swap. Second car: Mid-trip, tape started peeling off under the car revealing that their team had duct-taped a broken undercarriage part to the bottom of the car. When confronted with photo evidence, Europcar / Fox customer service refused a refund because we didn't "report it at pickup"--as if customers should crawl under vehicles to inspect for hidden duct tape. Negative Stars! My daughter is 19 years old and I paid Fox over $700.00 for 4/5 days of an entry level car rental. Only 24 hours later the car kept stalling on her and left her stranded for 8 hours. She was lied to by their road side assistance and the towing company they sub it out to. After 8 hours of being stranded and misguided, they charged my card $163.48 a week later for the towing because they determined that nothing was wrong with the car. There word against hers. I guess she just wanted to be stranded for no reason. I can see why they would offer to rent to a 19 year old driver. Easy pray. I am extremely disappointed and will encourage anyone to NOT use this company. Most rental car companies have bad reviews, but this one is the worst of the worst. What could improve? Everything about their processes and product. When we were taking the Sky Train, a Phoenix local cautioned us about what to expect at the car rental center. There was a line of a between 12-15 customers ahead of us. We had a prepaid reservation. They did have four agents at the rental counter upstairs, which was the only good thing. We waited about 30 minutes until we had a rental agreement in hand. They direct you to go downstairs to "pick up the key at the counter." What they don't say is that there is an angry crowd of about 40 people in line downstairs too. Many had been waiting a long time. There were only a handful of cars in the garage. Occasionally, a worker would bring in one or two more. Finally, our name was called. But there was no car in the space they sent us to. When I went back to the counter, the employee pushed the panic button and told me to follow the sound. The whole scene was total chaos. Yesterday morning, we woke up to a flat tire. So we spent the morning calling & waiting on AAA. The tow truck driver put on the spare & directed us to a nearby tire shop. He noted three separate defects in the tire, so it was already not in good shape when we got it. We quickly learned there were other Fox customers there,l at Big O Tire, whose vehicles also had various undisclosed issues. The tire shop called Fox but they declined to pay, so we lost a day of vacation and bought a new tire. The car they gave us also had no windshield washer fluid. They were so desperate to find any car that they do no safety check on the rentals. A call to a Fox service rep today brought no resolution. So, whatever you do, use another car company. Don't fall for the fact that their service is bundled with a popular airline. As one guy in the line of 40 said, I should have paid a few more bucks to get decent service. We had seen signs upstairs saying that Budget and other franchises had cars available. read more

Like many others I was overcharged for insurance that I didn't need and thought I've already purchased on Priceline. I booked through Priceline-number one mistake. I used Fox rental car- number two mistake. Long lines, not the car I ordered (bought a full size) and generally a shit experience. I ended up spending over $400 for a Volkswagen Jetta. Very disappointing experience with Fox Rent A Car at Phoenix Airport. We clearly stated at the counter that we did not want insurance or any extra coverage. The only additional charge explained to us was a small upgrade fee so my husband could also drive the car. Instead, we were rushed through multiple signatures without properly being shown or informed about what was being added to the contract. Later, we discovered almost $200 in extra charges for LDW insurance and Roadside Assistance that were never clearly explained to us. What made this even worse was how unprofessional the situation was handled afterward. Customer service simply pointed to the signatures and offered a small voucher to use their company again, which honestly felt insulting after this experience. My husband and I rent cars often and have never experienced something like this before. I would absolutely not recommend this company. Deceitful, horrible company. Pre paid for everything and got charged for roadside assistance that I didn't ask for and they double charged me for my rental. I was in a rush with my two children and wife when signing the rental agreement at the desk to pick up the car. Fox verbalized with me that I was signing a waiver to "for-go" all the extra "add-ons". I took their word because I didn't think they would take advantage of a family. They did... they lied and cheated this family out of money we didn't need to spend. When I called them and asked why I didn't get my money back when I returned the vehicle, they said.. "Unfortunately, you signed it so, you agreed to paying." I said, "I was told I was signing to not have all the ad-ons! I even questioned the man at the desk why the deposit was so high, he said it was just the deposit and I would get the money back if nothing was wrong with the car." Rented a car from Fox at Sky Harbor Airport through Expedia. I arrived at the counter and the agent couldn't find my reservation. After some looking he said Expedia put my first name where my last name should be and last name where first should be. He said he couldn't rent me a car because the name was not right and I would have to deal with Expedia for a refund. I told him I would do that just rent me a car. He said my reservation is cancelled and he has no car for me now! I said what about the car I reserved and he said it was no longer mine. He told me to check the counters of all the rental car companies at Sky Harbor and see if they had a car available. It's Friday night, I got a ride to the airport to get the car and now I'm stranded and have no car for a planned trip in the morning. I called their customer service line and filed a complaint and asked for contact from the Phoenix office. I've called their customer service number 3 more times and they said they emailed the office and they will contact me. That was 3 weeks ago and still no contact! When I got there they gave me a bigger car because they didn't have any small cars. When I returned the car, I was charged an upgrade for the large car. First time renting a car and it was actually very easy! We found check in easily with all the posted signs, and it only took about 10 minutes from start to finish to get the keys! Car was in good condition and fit all our needs for the few days we were in town. Checkout was even easier than expected and we were back in the airport before we knew it! Beware do not rent here. There are plenty of other options. They try to screw you over on a damage waiver fee, which they don't explain to you in advance. They just throw it on there make you sign and it's the microscopic printing that you can't even read with a naked eye so they added on there without explaining it to you or they talk really fast and then you end up paying an extra $150 for stuff that you never even asked for it exceeds the price of the rental of the car and then when you call customer service all their customer service is outsourced out of the country, and there's nothing that they can do to help and there's no actual human. You can talk to you in the United States do not rent here under no circumstances they will screw you over. I was able to dispute with my credit card company and got the charge removed. Rental 2/10/2026- 2/18/2026: We arrived at the PHX- Fox Rental counter around midnight and had a half hour before they closed. Our counter experience was pretty good. We weren't pressured into additional coverages or services and travel to Mexico was explained clearly. We picked up the Nissan Versa which had about 34k miles with some exterior damage and a gas tank which wasn't completely full. Attendant said to bring the car back with the gauge at the same level. Five days into our 8 day rental the car wouldn't start. We called roadside assistance and were on hold for 1-1/2 hours. As we waited, we got a jump and drove to a Batteries Plus who tested the battery and said it was in good condition but the cold cranking amp was a little low. We decided to purchase a remote battery jumper for $142. Once we were on the phone with Roadside assistance, they said we needed to go to a Fox Rent A Car approved location to get the battery "officially" assessed. Then, while we waited, we would need to forward the inpsection to Roadside assistance to get an approval for the repair to be covered. Once approved, we could get the car repaired- while we waited. We assumed each attempt to contact Roadside assistance would be a long one. The Roadside assitance rep did apologize for the long wait and was helpful as she called the repair locations to get confirmation of their availability. She also texted me the details. We told her that we would probably not be able to make it to these places given the timeframe. She did not tell us that we needed to document with Fox Roadside assistance the issue again before returning the car. Given it was a Sunday, there were limited places open and available for a long period (hours) as we were driving from Tucson to Mexico. So we continued our travels to Mexico. At that point, everytime we started the car we needed to use the remote jumper. Since we were told there wouldn't be any coverage for a repair in Mexico, we didn't reconnect with Fox until we returned the car to Phoenix 3 days later when we informed the attendant not to turn off the car because it wouldn't start again. Also, we told them that the engine light came on for a day but was off when we returned the car. I called Fox billing within 2 days of returning home and was told I would receive a $20 credit towards a future reservation. I asked if there was anything more they could do given our experience- even help with paying for the remote jumper that couldn't be returned. The customer service rep was polite and she did explain our situation to a manager who said that the best they could do was a $25 credit. She said that had we made contact with Roadside assistance between 2/15 and 2/18 it would maybe a different story. In the end, the Fox policies regarding maintenance issues with their cars is not focused on the customer. The fact that we informed them of the issue and returned the car with the existing problem should have been enough to compensate us for more than a credit for a future booking- which we probably won't use. read more

This was the least expensive car rental place at the Phoenix airport. The car was clean and worked well. So, when we checked in, the Fox employee went on a diatribe about the governor of my state (CA) and how it's great in AZ that everyone can carry guns. Moreover, when we told him we were going to Sedona, he tried to convince us that our 4 cylinder car wouldn't make it there. Luckily we didn't buy it. Bad customer service when we returned the car too (poor communicator). All in all, it was fine, but they need to better train their employees. read more

First, I called into your office to inquire about how my credit card was charged $190.00 through Priceline, then upon receiving the vehicle, charged $300.00 deposit. At the end of the trip the deposit held only refunded me $77.00 the agent told me that it was for the rental, plus I purchased the $32.99 coverage. Like other reviewers, don't listen to their spiel on uncharges. We rented via AARP because a 2nd driver can be assigned for free - but Fox said they never heard of it. Worse, they told me that we can only drive in the state they operate - and since they were not in any of the other adjacent states that made for a rude surprise. During the rental process, Ocatvio suggested the pre paid fuel option, stating it was cheaper than any gas station around. He did not explain this process. I assumed they will fill it with however much gas I used. Well I was wrong. . When we returned the vehicle, we still had 1/3 of a tank left. When I asked to speak to a manager, Emilio came out, offered zero help, and blamed the issue on me booking through a 3rd party. When I pushed for answers, he canceled my reservation on the spot and told his staff not to assist me further. I'm a Marine Corps veteran and was in Phoenix for cancer treatment at Mayo Clinic. Emilio left me stranded without transportation and showed no empathy whatsoever. I've never been treated this poorly by any company.
