Don't know how many times I have used Alamo for rental car service and this time my experience with Alamo was still excellent as expected. [Price]: I booked an intermediate car (Toyota Corolla or similar) via Costco Travel and the initial quote was approximately $108 for a 9-hour rental. [Process]: Alamo offers an online check-in process. Once completed, I was able to go directly to the car pickup line at the rental car center and skip the self-service kiosks and counter. Alamo is located at the Rental Car Center and our party took the PHX Sky Train to get there. I showed the staff my reservation confirmation and was able to choose any available cars in a specific row. I ended up with a Chevy Malibu. Before driving out of the exit gate, travelers need to show their driver's license and the credit card used to book the car. The return process was very straightforward. I simply parked & a staff member scanned a code on the car - that was it. This has to be the most reasonable experience I have had at a car rental place in my entire adult life. Arrived around 9pm and walked right up to the counter and was helped by the kindest woman. She was helpful and friendly but not over the top, which was perfect as I was quite tired. I was check in and assigned my car in less than ten minutes. I was direct around the corner and down an escalator where I was greeted right away. They didn't have the car I wanted in stock unfortunately but they granted me a free upgrade to the next size. The woman helping me took me down and let me through their inventory to find something that would work for us. She then made sure we were comfortable with the tech features and sent us on our way. Returning the car was seamless as well and we were dropped off and on our way into the airport in under five minutes. I highly recommend using this company if you plan to rent a car. read more

Our family of 7 (including three kids- 1 a todder) got stranded inside the Grand Canyon when our Alamo rental car broke down. We were told by our first customer service agent Ariana to KEEP DRIVING an unsafe car that was literally flashing "stop driving immediately" Then told it couldn't be towed. ( we had to pay out of pocket to tow to a garage in the park) but then magically alamo appeared with their tow truck. Then told to Uber... with no Ubers available. We had no food, were stuck at a closing for 6 hours garage, and were over 2 hours from where we were staying. Never once did someone say let's help you find somewhere to stay. Not one person called us back. Not one person checked if we were safe for the night The only reason we made it out? A complete stranger drove all 7 of us 90 miles and helped feed our kids. When we finally got to the flagstaff airport, they suddenly "found" us a car--after telling us all day that wasn't possible. Still no follow-up even though I have emailed and called multiple times. Still no refund. we had to pay an additional 290$ out of pocket and we missed out once in a lifetime trip to the park ( we flew from Philly) This could have ended very differently. They have NO safety plan in place for if something goes wrong when you are visiting tourist locations in their serving area . read more

Resolving customer service issues. Illinois toll did not pick up my I-Pass for one toll on a rental car even though license plate was connected to pass. Alamo contacted me via email to inform me I was being charged $29.70 for toll. I tried numerous times to contact them to give them my I-Pass number to resolve but was unable to reach them by phone and they did not respond to email and was subsequently charged. Rental car companies keep trying to reinvent themselves. Alamo is doing the customer experience method. Every step along the way the team inquires if you're satisfied or happy with the service. The skip the counter process is good, I wish the App kept credit card information and I would not have to add it every time. I picked and Ford Expedition with the agent, It was the best looking SUV there. I knew almost immediately I made a mistake, the SUV had 53K miles and the steering was loose. I lived with it for the 8 days. Upon return when I mentioned it and the young lady she immediately marked it for sale. She mentioned it was over the 50K mile limit, which means it goes out. This is outrageous. I reserved a car through Allegiant Air along with my airline ticket. Reservation #159342805, and I paid upfront $440.88 just for the car. I arrived at Mesa Gateway Airport on 2/26/2026 and was told my rental agreement was "incorrect" and was required to pay an additional $615.50 on top of what I had already paid. It was 11:00 pm, and left without any option but to take the rental. The agent told me that there was nothing she could do. The reservation number with Alamo was 86715592. This is completely unacceptable and entirely Alamo's responsibility after confirming with other agencies that the reservation with Alligent was correct. I am demanding an immediate refund of the overcharge. I did not authorize this, and your staff's handling of the situation is unacceptable. Allegiant has confirmed that the issue must be resolved directly with Alamo. If I do not receive a full refund within 5 business days, I will escalate this complaint immediately to: * My credit card issuer for a chargeback * Consumer protection agencies * Public reviews and social media channels detailing this experience Alamo's handling of this situation is unacceptable and must be corrected now. read more

FINAL UPDATE After filing a credit card dispute, someone finally reached out. David and I had positive communication and I was issued a full refund. I rented a car for a weekend at the beginning of the month. The car broke down on the side of a remote highway. I waited almost four hours to get picked up. I have received several emails asking about my experience and I have requested a phone call to discuss. I have received nothing. I emailed the manager of the establishment twice, no response. I emailed the President of the company. No response. I spent hours waiting for a ride in a remote gas station parking lot. I was unable to pick up my elderly mother to take her to the airport and had to hire an Uber for $42.34. So we could make our flight. The entire reason I was even in Arizona was to escort my disabled mother, who cannot fly alone, for an appointment. Her having to take an Uber by herself was terrifying. Having to navigate wheelchair access was almost beyond her capabilities. Once we both finally made it into the departure terminal, I was able to take a closer look at the photos I had taken of the car. It became very apparent that the undercarriage or engine shield had been literally tied back up. You can see the literal broken tie. As opposed to actual metal screws that are to be used. When that came undone is when more and more of the undercarriage came loose. To the point, it was literally laying on the ground. When it first came partially loose, there was a violent shaking of the car along with a loud, slapping sound. When more of it came loose, I could no longer drive the car. I understand cars break down. That's not the case here. This car broke down solely due to the sheer negligence of the vehicle's maintenance. For the fact alone, I am requesting a full refund. I look forward to a timely response. I will be unavailable from 2/10-14 and I would like to have this resolved before that time. Horrible experience. They rented me a car that had a nail in the tire and no windshield wiper fluid. I noticed the tire pressure was slightly low in the front left tire as we were already leaving. Just 5 PSI lower than the rest of the tires. Looked and saw no nail. Next morning the tire was completely flat. The roadside assistance via Alamo was nowhere to be found. Waited 2 hours and they weren't able to find anyone (it was Saturday in Sedona). They made me fill up the tire with air (was holding and couldn't see a nail) and drive an hour to flagstaff so that I could get the tire fixed myself using their account. Meanwhile I missed my expensive Pink Jeep tour to do this. Then after I returned the rental they charged me a flat tire fee. They also had no cars to replace mine either. We landed Thursday afternoon in Phoenix. Had a compact car booked with Alamo. We were pleasantly greeted by Woody who asked if we would like to upgrade. As an SUV owner I asked what it would be to upgrade to one. $15 a day. Go for it I said. There were zero hard sells (or threats) for extra insurance, extra drivers, full tanks of gas etc. Just a super upbeat counter person with a great attitude and an even better personality. He was a five star experience from the get go. Then we head down to the garage to pick up our SUV, and Francie asked if we had been treated well (I honestly think she truly cared) and when I answered in the affirmative and made a bit of a joke about the Woody upstairs she laughed hard, told us we made her day and said "This one's yours!" and pointed at an almost new hybrid BMW X5. "It's the same price" she said and sent us off. Alamo! I swear by the underwear of Zeus that as much as I can I will only rent from you. Kudos to you, your team and your management. I rented a car from this Alamo from Friday night to Monday afternoon (this afternoon). My flight arrived and I waited a couple hours to meet up with friends so I could give them a ride to their hotel. Once we were all together, we went to pick up the rental car. I worked with Joe to go through the check-in process. I had booked ahead and had a discount through work, and I didn't have any issues with the process at all. Joe was super friendly and got me all set up quickly. I rented a Hyundai Elantra, which ended up being $34.07 per day. My total upon return was $159.52 for basically three full days. I gassed up at Costco a few miles away before returning to avoid having to pay over $5 a gallon for returning it not full. It would have been around $3.30 a gallon if I prepaid gas with Alamo, and I knew Costco was cheaper. I paid $2.79 a gallon at Costco today. The car was super nice and had great features like Apple CarPlay, lane keep, and adaptive cruise control. The trunk was also big enough to fit three suitcases. The keys were a bit hard to find at first and we had to ask an employee to help us find them. She told us that the drivers will sometimes just "throw the keys anywhere" so we had to spend a while looking. The keys ended up being under the front passenger seat. Not a big deal, just something to keep in mind if you have trouble finding the keys in all the obvious places. The return process was incredibly easy. I just pulled up, got out, handed over the keys, and took my suitcase out. The employee I gave the keys to took care of the rest. I didn't have any extra charges after return, no problems at all. I would definitely rent from this Alamo again. They made everything super easy and they were incredibly affordable. read more

I emailed my experience below to care@alamo.com on 12/1/15. Alamo did not bother reply to the email. I had yet another bad experience with Alamo on my 2025 vacation. Again, the rental car for this year had the TPMS light go on as it did in 2021. On my way to Discount Tire a second light went on for service engine soon. Discount tire added air to the rear right tire and the TPMS light went off. I called your customer service and explained the situation. Your customer service person said the car had an oil change at approximately 14K miles and the next oil change is not due to 22K miles. The customer service person said I could do a car exchange at Enterprise based on proximity to the hotel I was staying at. The employee at Enterprise was not able to reset the service engine soon light/alarm. He said I could exchange the car with another or drive the car as is. The employee at Enterprise said the same as the Alamo customer service person said the same the car was not due for oil change to 22K miles. What makes them think the get service engine soon alarm is for the oil change? Maybe the car had some other issue? Maybe it was not reset after the last oil change? You should know that your Alamo customer service person hanged up on me before I could ask all the questions I wanted to. Very unprofessional at best! When I complained 4 years ago, your staff offered me a free rental car for 1 day that would expire after 1 year. That is no good for me as I rent a car approximately every 2 years. The skip the counter feature for Alamo must be the greatest thing ever. You don't need to stand in line for the counter or wait for a kiosk. You just need to be comfortable entering your credit card and drivers license number online. Then you just go directly to the lot, select your car, and show your id at the gate as you exit the lot. The bummer about sky harbor car rental is the shuttle. All the car rentals are off airport and you have to wait up to an hour to catch the shuttle. Some folks uber it and come back to pick up wife and kids. Once inside, we didn't talk to anyone, so we actually had a bit of trouble finding which floor. Don't take the escalator, which will take you to the wrong floor. Take the elevator, where the buttons are labeled with each rental agency. ALAMO IS ON THE SECOND FLOOR. We rented a truck. There were fords, chevys, and dodges. We got a clean ram, which turned out to have quite a few miles with a scratched bed. But otherwise it was a great rental. It was clean on the outside and shiny and sanitized on the inside. read more

Rental cars are a RACKET. That being said, I feel like Alamo is one of the better brands out there. And if you need a vehicle for a road trip or whatever, like I did, this is a solid option. Before I booked I joined the rewards program which allowed me to enter in my info ahead of time and do a "skip the counter" check in, which ruled. Basically I got to the rental car place at the airport and went straight to the section I had rented in and was able to pick out my own car from the line up instead of having one assigned to me. Since I was road tripping alone I wanted to make sure I had a vehicle that would be safe and handle well so I was able to sit behind the wheel of each and check out how I felt. In the end I selected a Mitsubishi Outlander and made my way to check out. A quick check of the ID and I was on the road. For the next 5 days I zipped around in this very comfortable, clean, and well maintained vehicle. I returned it back to the airport and drop off was also a breeze. HOWEVER, when I was checking out and got my receipt print out I noticed it was over a grand what I had booked it at. Luckily everyone here was so kind and I was able to get it sorted and adjusted ASAP. Some weird coding error? IDK. But it was easy and I was out fairly quickly. If you're gonna drop an obscene amount of money on a car rental, I would recommend Alamo, for sure. read more

Purchased a rental through Expedia. Went to the airport to pick up my car. A lady that is older with light grey hair told me while I was waiting in line that the debit and credit combination card I used to book th rental won't work and that I need a purely credit card to get the car. I was very surprised as I already paid for the rental and didn't understand the issue with the card. So we start talking about how I can cancel it he rental and we get into a long discussion about cancelling. I then call my family who was waiting for me that I was going to be very late as I had to cancel the rental. I asked the lady if we can try the card and she informed me that it was useless to try the card as it was a 100% chance, her words, that it would not work and that I would have to cancel. After much ado, I finally convinced her to run my card. The card went through and there was no issues with the card. I got into my rental vehicle and left. The stress and trouble the short grey haired lady caused was tremendous. I shall never rent from Alamo again. read more

When I arrived at the desk, I was quickly greeted and waited on, and even escorted to the lot to pick up my car. The staff were terrific. Very kind, professional, and courteous. And the nice lady who escorted me to the lot, was so engaging and genuinely nice. She also give me solid recommendations on the best restaurants to score breakfast!
