I was pleasantly surprised by my rental car experience with National, as this was my first time renting with them and only because it was what was offered through work, due to a recent change in vendor options. Historically, I've always used competitors so was a bit leery using National and not sure about the service, quality, etc. National Car Rental in Phx exceeded all of my expectations! To start off with, Joy at the counter was super friendly and helpful! I had just had a rough disembarkation (because we had to wait for an open gate) but she was quick to help and get me on my way, with clear instructions that the next person would help me get my vehicle and with the understanding, friendliness, customer service we don't always see anymore. When I reached the parking lot, I was told I could choose any vehicle between the rows I was told. I couldn't believe it. The selection was incredible! I couldn't help but think I'd be charged more because I booked a smaller vehicle but ended up choosing a smaller SUV. Nope, same price. The Jeep Compass was clean, worked perfectly and was a great fit for my visit. Checking back in was also super friendly and efficient. After a quick greeting and check of the vehicle, Aiden made sure I was happy with my vehicle, if I had any questions, concerns, how it could've been better, etc. I've rented from others before where I was told to just throw the keys on the dash and that was the end of our interaction. National made the effort for a friendly, customer-driven experience every chance they had to ensure a high level of satisfaction. I didn't download the app or become a member because I wasn't sure it'd be worth it but if every National Rental Car is as friendly and accommodating as the PHX Airport site, I think I may have a new favorite car rental company! Based on my Yelp photos, I've rented here a couple of times and I have to say, for an experience that can usually be very painful (renting a car, that is), the team at National Car Rental at PHX do a great job. Most recently, I rented a car for a week and after taking the train to the rental car center, I was able to skip the desk and head straight to the Emerald Aisle to pick any available car. I would highly recommend setting up an account with National and taking advantage of this.... being able to skip a line at the counter is a blessing. In any event, we went to the aisle, picked out our car and were off after a brief stop at the gate to check everything. Return was also quick and painless. Josh did a thorough inspection of the car, which we returned with a full tank and in pristine shape, and we were on our way in no time. It's amazing how frictionless the experience can be, as opposed to how awful other companies (I'm looking at you Hertz) can make it. I highly recommend National. read more

I've rented cars from this location several times now and it's always quick and convenient. There's a shuttle to and from the airport that's relatively quick, and there is a gas station not too far from this place too. The staff are friendly and professional. I've had them offer to give me a bit of a discount when something inconvenient happens, and I'm glad they have that authority. This last time the car I rented had a lot of fingerprints on the windows and the carpeting in the trunk of the car was stained. There was also a splotch of something in the cupholder (I didn't try to remove it so I don't know how stuck on it was). That said, it didn't affect performance of the car and overall I still enjoyed driving it. The pricing seems okay. I think there are cheaper rental companies, but some of what I pay for is convenience. I'll keep using them when I visit Phoenix for work. read more

Phoenix-I recently switched from Hertz because they tried to charge me $800 for damage to a car. I was still in town and went back and said I want to see the car because I didn't damage. And they dropped the charge. Now I've rented from National 4-5 times and they've tried to charge for fuel twice when I'm returning it full. read more

When I landed in Phoenix, I had no idea where to go, but I had zero issues since Phoenix is the friendliest and easiest airport to navigate around. Follow the signs to the Sky Train. Once exited, I followed the signs to the National desk, selected my car, stopped at the exit booth to present my ID and the tab on the keys, and went to my hotel. When returning the vehicle, I used the Waze app to find the location, turned over the agent's keys, and went back on the Sky Train. read more

I had left my jacket in the car and called two hours later. They said the car was already rented out, and they will open a claim. Nothing was ever found, the gallon. The phone was offended when it said that the cleaners may have kept my brand new jacket.she claims that sometimes they don't see things out on the backseat when cleaning the car out- which I found hard to believe. This company will scam you for insurance even when you decline it. The car was fine (apart from a rear license plate that fell off the car and I retrieved it from the highway - they gave me a $60 credit for that). However I noticed that even though I declined CDW and other insurances both verbally and in my rewards profile, I was still billed for them. I called customer service and they refunded the insurance amount, but then billed me for it again 2 days later. Then I reviewed my old invoices, as I rent from here at least twice a month and all of them have billed me for declined CDW. Customer services was unable to refund me 'because the amount was too great.' Seriously? "Yes we scammed you, but because we scammed you so much we cannot pay you back????" Some of these unauthorized charges were for over $100. I do not need this insurance as my company covers all automotive insurance. They also failed to properly check in a rental car that I returned on time and I had to deal with them accusing me of still having it until they finally found it in their lot. I've been renting from National for 2 decades. The reason I choose them over other car rental companies is because the pick up and return process is very easy. When you return the car, they scan the barcode, enter the mileage and immediately within 5 minutes email you the receipt. Well, this location doesn't do it that way. I dropped off the car, and half day later, it still says I still have the vehicle. I called the main customer service line and they said the location has to check the vehicle in. Well, they have the vehicle and didn't check it in, now we are on a wild goose chase to try to find where this vehicle is, meanwhile they are charging me overtime fees. And I have to spend time trying to fix their mistakes. They can't seem to do their job correctly. Lame! read more

Selection of vehicles was decent and the few staff I encountered were decent. I'll continue to use National as my primary car rental provider. My wife left her wallet in the rental car in the glove box and we rode the sky trail to the Airport and realized that she had done so and returned immediately to retrieve her wallet. Upon getting to the parking garage the car was still in the same spot and she retrieved her wallet but an employee had stolen $370 cash out of it. The manager said there was no way to tell which employee did it and that it would take hours to pull the camera footage. He gave my wife a QR code and told her to make a claim. Customer service stated that they couldn't do anything and we filed a police report and the Officer stated it happens all the time and they are very stand offish concerning these matters. His advice, don't carry cash! Apparently National CAR rental condones its employees stealing from its customers. read more

Customer Service is not helpful at all! Employee's English was unclear as was the long-term rental policy. I need a 3-month rental for medical treatment. After I arrived, I was told I have to renew each month. When I called to renew, I was told it can't be done over the phone. So after undergoing cancer treatments all day, I have to drive 25 miles. Seriously, the best customer service of any car rental agency in the country. I had two different issues while renting a vehicle - one I caught the edge of the tire and rim, and when I returned it, I thought for sure I'd be having to pay a hefty co-pay or fee, and the manager waived it, because it was under the threshold of what they consider serious damage. And the second time where recently I was in such a rush, and barely made the flight in time without getting gas, and they waived 3 gallons for me as a courtesy as an executive elite member. The process of renting was very simple however there were several issues related to lack of cleanliness/attention to detail as well as mechanical quality: 1) the car was not well cleaned, specifically there were several pieces of unfortunate trash such as a used dental floss pick in the door and a stack of recall warning notices in the center console (pictures attached) 2) despite only being one model year old, the vehicle was significantly out of alignment as evidenced by the steering wheel being turned when the wheels were straight 3) there was significantly dark tint on the front passenger side windows, I personally do not have an issue with this as my personal vehicle has them however many people may find a safety concern read more

OUTSTANDING SERVICE!!! We are Budget car people. I had unfortunately forgot to push the book now button on my Budget rental. The night before flying out I went to get the confirmation and couldnt find the reservation. Cardinals were playing Dallas Cowboys that weekend so Budgets last minute prices were outrageous. I booked thru National which ended up being a Godsend We exited the airport tram and a huge mob ran to Budget. We walked right up to the National counter and was greeted by Rich. Very quick and easy experience. Our flight got in around midnight but there was still someone at the desk to help us get our car. I gave three stars because at the time of reservation a week prior, the luxury SUV price was $1,900. At the counter, we had to pay over $3,000. They do make you purchase their insurance of $35 a day if you don't have proof that your insurance covers rental cars. Other than that, we got a 2024 GMC Yukon and it was very clean inside and out. Overall, no complaints other than the huge price jump. read more

We got a car from national for pick up at the airport. We called for a ride share to take us to the car rental terminal instead of taking the shuttle as he didn't want to sit next to anyone else after the flight. The ride share dropped us off at a quiet spot where we took an elevator up and then walked a ways to the main floor of the car rental terminal. It was late and the main counter was closed. There are different escalators for the different car rental agencies so make sure to take the right one. No attendant at the kiosk either but then some random person from another agency told us to choose a car from the aisle marked with our membership level. Which for us was fine but the family ahead of us had issues. He was also not sure which car to select from the emerald club aisle. One was marked reserved. In the end we just picked one and drove to be checked out. We usually fill the gas tank by ourselves as it's cheaper that way. There was a wet wipe supplied so we could wipe down the steering wheel if we wanted to. They have a complete clean pledge where they sanitize the entire vehicle between customers. When we returned the car, it was in the evening but there were more people about. We had to walk across the parking area in the car rental terminal and back up the elevators to the main terminal where you can take a shuttle to the airport or walk to the car ride share pick up spot. That is away from the terminal and since the elevator was not working to go down, we had to walk down the stairs. A little lonely. Be careful if you're by yourself. read more

I arrived around 06:00AM on a Sunday morning (May 8). Took sky train to national. The main area (desk) were not open yet so I proceeded down the escalator to National. I do want to note that I reserved from Aisle so I did not have to interact with the booth agent at all. I simply walked to the aisle and chose a lovely Tacoma for the price of a midsize I forgot her name but if you're reading this and I gave you hawaii chocolates to try, please comment lol.
