I rented a car for my wife and when she picked up the rental she was upsold to the amount of 175 dollars without [a] being told she was being upsold and [b] without informing her that the vehicle we rented was not available. Calling billing was fruitless and their fallback claim was that she signed the agreement.. after being offered a paultry 115 dollar refund she would not refund the upset. I'll be disputing the entirety of the charge with Visa.. Never EVER in my 40 years of travel have either my or my family been treated so deceptively by a rental car agency. Dear Fox - in reply to your statement I do not need to review the billing agreement with you. You used deception in order to get my wife to sign and pay more than was agreed to in the original reservation. I've canceled my credit card before you were able to bill to it. So I rented a grey Volkswagen through Fox rental car in Phoenix (Sky Harbor Airport) 7-8 through 7-11-25. I extended for one more day, which cost us an additional $80. Okay, cool. Vehicle checked in at 11:19pm. On 7-11. But then, they went on and lied about my return day and time and charge me $100's in additional fees. The agent-Octovio at the time of rental said, "I'm sorry, we did not have enough staff to check your vehicle in on time, so the next shift checked it in at 4 something in the A.M. 7-13-25. I left a hand written note for the mgr-Trish to call and or email me. Not nothing! No call or email. They just lied on me and made me pay for it! They have denied my refund without even investigating or reaching out to me, as customer services emails and escalate the issue. Still nothing! Fox drops the ball on their customers and they lie!! I will never deal with them ever again. They rob travelers and screw us around! Worst place ever! Plus you can't even speak to anyone at the Fox rental in the airport unless your in person. Awesome rates and got us a great rental just for the day to cruise around Phoenix and Sedona. I would highly recommend!

The vehicle was nice and clean. The check out line not long. The agent at check out was experienced but mislead me to thinking he was doing me a service steering me to their cheaper gas rate than what was just off airport. What he failed to tell me, was that when I agreed to use have then fill the gas tank upon return that I was actually paying for a full tank of gas regardless of how full it was when returned. Shame on me for trusting him to be fully disclosing and not reading the rental agreement. Secondary I was charged for an extra day even though the vehicle was returned before it was due by an our a half hour. Upon return I asked for check out paperwork and was told there was none and it would be emailed. Getting home I get the email and discover the receipt showed it getting back three hours later. It took me a phone call and proof I returned the vehicle when I said I had. Luckily I had taken several photos of the vehicle at return and was able to show, to the second, when the photo was taken. First time renting from Fox. So far customer services sucks! especially the people that give you the cars! They are all miserably rude. Secondly, I had booked for a 4runner or similar and when I got there to pick it up she said, you can pick a suv from row 10-12. Mind you I had not seen the front of their parking lot since this rows where at the very back so when I asked her if they had any 4Runners she said no. I believed her. When I was finally leaving on my way out I seen all this 4Runners just park there I was so confused but I was in a hurry I couldn't go back to ask her why she lie to me and why she couldn't give me the car I booked for. Also because I had already gone back to change the 1st suv I had picked because it was making a very bad/loud noise as soon I stepped on that brake so I had to park it back and get different one. After reading all this reviews I'm so glad I changed the vehicle or they were probably going to blame me for that and charge me. I'm going to say this right now, I did not pay for insurance of any kind because I am using my own , I did not payed for gas or anything I didn't need other than for a second driver and an extra day! DON'T DO IT!!! No matter how good the deal looks, they will stick it to you! I last rented a car from Fox ten years ago. It was the dirtiest and most foul smelling car I have ever rented. The staff at the rental center didn't care. I drove it with the windows down for four days on my vacation and said I would never rent from your company again. Fast forward to this past November. I was enticed with a "black friday" deal through expedia for a full size SUV rental on my vacation. I decided to give Fox another try. When I arrived at the rental center in Phoenix the gentleman at the counter was friendly and started my experience very positively. When I got to the area where the car was waiting I was pleased. There was a Jeep Grand Cherokee that was in great condition and very clean. Again, very pleased. When I got to the booth to check out with the vehicle they stopped me. The license plate was going to expire during my rental term. I could not take the vehicle. There were no other full size SUVs available. I was downgraded to a Nissan Rogue. The staff at the rental center said I would be refunded the difference when I returned the vehicle. When I returned the Rogue, there was no adjustment to my bill. I contacted your customer service team to inquire about the billing. I have been told that the Nissan Rogue was a "complimentary upgrade" from the Jeep Grand Cherokee. In what world is that an upgrade?!? There are other options out there. Don't rent from Fox. read more

I wish I could give ZERO. This company is blatantly stealing money. We had a rental car 3 MONTHS AGO AND THEY CONTINUE TO TAKE MONEY OUT OF OUR ACCOUNT TODAY!! These guys are THIEVES!! If you do use them, change your account info as soon as you drop the car off! First they charged us DOUBLE what we agreed to. I've had to dispute that. Now they are taking out charges of $75 each that we will have to dispute. (Again, 3 MONTHS LATER!) and we didn't get my full $250 deposit back either! There was NOTHING wrong with the car! It wasn't dirty, it wasn't damaged, zero problems with both of the cars we got. And speaking of that, my friend requested a JEEP and we got a MITSUBISHI. We paid the extra money for a JEEP and didn't get it until I drove AN HOUR to go switch the cars A WEEK LATER! Point blank - these guys are 100% pure thieves. I didn't think it could have been as bad as the reviews were making it out to be, well now I wish I would have listened :-( First this place is outside in the garage basement in 120F heat! Second the line was 4 HOURS long!! Third they did not reserve a car that I booked 6 months ago. Instead I was given a 2 wheel drive 2018 Hyundai SanataFE instead of a 4WD Jeep Wrangler 4door special edition!! Not even a comparable substitute! Fourth I was charged 7.99 a gallon for gas!! We arrived to get our car from this location, after pre-paying for our reservation. Speaking with a man in line, he had been waiting over two hours and was not even close to being helped. With my elderly father and young son, I could not afford to sit and wait upwards of 3 hours for our car. When trying to cancel, I was told I would need to speak to their billing department. I have been trying to call them for ttwo days now and still have not spoken with anyone. Here is the message that continues to play, "thank you for continuing to hold, there are more than 10 callers ahead of you." This number never changes, no matter how long I wait. I'm going to keep trying because this is ridiculous and I want my money back. We didn't rent from them and went with another provider since I had to travel an additional 4 hours with young child and senior citizen. Rent elsewhere! Oh geez! Only one customer service representative for all customers at the Phoenix location. 1-2 hour wait to get a substandard car is truly unacceptable. Also they have you waiting outside downstairs when it's over 100 degrees outside in the shade. Unacceptable. This is also the second time I paid xtra to reserve a special class of car only to be told they have an econobox available. I wouldn't be lured again by their claimed low prices because the car you book isn't ever available and the cars are neglected and higher miles then most rentals. The last car I got was a Ford Fusion instead of a Dodge Challenger and it had 48,XXX miles. That's a lot for a rental. Please don't make the same mistake as I did. read more

Rented from them at Thanksgiving. They were fairly vocal in their objections to me photographing nearly every inch of the car prior to signing their car inspection form (but there was a guy who was 12 feet away who had dropped off his car complaining because Fox was going to charge him $200+ for a scratch he was animate was there at pickup). Considering how fast they were trying to rush me to sign the car inspection form and the scratch damage on the outside of my car, I don't doubt they try to rush everyone. I literally was told "you don't need to take photos" in which I replied, "if you are having me sign that - yes, I do." I also didn't like that they had no where you could keep their price breakdown or document their fairly large deposit, since signing was electronic. I ended up putting " Refundable Deposit $250.00" next to my signature on the electronic key pad for insurance when signing the "I agree to pay" section. The sales rep finally permitted it, but after some objection. Main issue was the car was in fairly bad shape, it made loud noises, aliment was way off, and warning lights would go off while I was renting it. However, the car did not break down (just gave me concern). Giving them 1 extra star because unlike Budget, they honored pay the gas upfront and did not charge me extra when dropping of the tank less than fuel. I also didn't really have a long wait. They also (unlike Budget) did not lie to me about my insurance coverage and did not attempt to up-sale me on their insurance. Fox car rental uses a third party (Car Trawler) to conduct business on their behalf. I could barely hear what they were saying because it sounded like they were outside. I specifically asked them where they were and they are Overseas (India). I called to move me reservation because of a delay and they told me that because I was an hour past the pick up time they couldn't do that. I was told to cancel me reservation and go to my primary source to reserve again. Well.. I listened to what I was told and in cancelling the reservation... they said that if I didn't pick up my car within 6 hours, I will NOT be getting a refund... even though the voucher states that I would get one minus the $100 cancellation fee. Went ROUND AND ROUND between ID90, Car trawler and FOX at the airport for 9 days before I gave up. I PRE-PAID for my car and all I wanted to do was move the reservation time. Will never rent with them ever. The first time left a bitter taste in my mouth. Yet they were the only ones that had cars available when doing my search. I put in my complaint with the BBB. In response to the FOX representative that just commented on my review. I heard you the first 11-teen times. That's what your rep. initially told me to do. went to them (third party).. then they said to go to Car Trawler.. then Car Trawler said to go to YOU.. hence the ROUND & ROUND. Again.. There is only one person working the counter and a ton of people with reservations. If you know you have this many reservations, why wouldn't you staff more people on a busy night?! I rented online for a "Jeep Wrangler or similar" and ended up with a Mitsubishi that was a 4 cylinder with scratches and dents everywhere. For $500 I expect a lot more. I knew there was a reason why their daily rate is so cheap. I booked online through Southwest and was quoted ~$330. My boyfriend's credit card was charged over $800 when he signed paperwork for $550-600 after coverages, taxes, and fees. Woman at the counter asked my boyfriend which liability coverage he wanted, but didn't mention NO coverage, which is how they trick you. I called her out on that quick! She also didn't give us an option for fuel fill-up. She automatically selected pre-paid. We figured there shouldn't be an issue because we would be doing quite a bit of driving so we left it on there. Wrong. We called to find out why the charge on the credit card was so high. She said something along the lines of they up charged the fuel because the type of car we reserved was not what we got. We never asked for a different car, we took what they told us to take which was a midsize!! I demanded they refund us the difference and surprisingly it wasn't difficult to get that result. We realized the pre-paid was not actually worth it because we could have paid slightly less filling up ourselves. The other reason the charge was higher was because of a "deposit". Another thing they never told us about!! It wasn't even on the paperwork. Overall this company is shady and I will never use them again. Thanks Fox for teaching me what to look out for!!! read more

Taking my money from a debit card is okay but to pick up you want a credit card. If I had a credit card I would have used that instead of my debit card. If you rent from Fox, go over the entire car with close eye. Run your hand over every surface. Take photos. What happened to me is this: I had the car over a weekend in Phoenix, and when I returned it, the agent found two very small, shallow dents on the hood. Nothing happened to that car while I had it to cause those dents. There was no evidence of anything having fallen on the hood. Now Fox is billing me for over $1700 in repairs. I submitted to my insurer. They found that a reasonable cost for the repairs was about $400, and they paid that to Fox. Fox continues to bill me for the remaining $1300, including an arbitrary $150 admin fee and $460 loss of use --without any proof that they had no other cars on hand to rent during the time this car was being repaired. So am back at Fox trying to pickup the prepaid rental car. Line and wait is even worse. All prepaid customers... Do Not PrePay with Fox unless you want to wait in line a long long time. I would give them a -5 if I could. It only got worse after reaching the counter. Fox cancelled my prepaid reservation without refunding my money for the prepay since I did not pick up the car when I was suppose to: Our original flight from DC got cancelled and the airline rerouted us onto later flights. I gave up waiting in the Fox rental car line since it was 1:30AM and the line wasn't moving. Since I prepaid, you would think they would hold the reservation since I already paid: But no. The second time I came in the afternoon to pickup the rental car: After waiting 1.5 hrs + to reach the counter (for a car reservation that was cancelled - Fox never notified me that my prepaid reservation got cancelled), the Fox rental agent rented me a car for a lot more money! $586.54 including a 150.00 deposit! My original fully prepaid reservation through Priceline was for $390.60. No deposit required. So far renting from Fox costs 586.54+390.60 = $977.14. I could have got a cheaper rate from any other rental company plus not wait in line for over 2 hrs over two days. I have to complain to my credit card company. The agent told me since the prepaid reservation was cancelled by Fox there is nothing he can do about it at the counter and I had to pay for another rental even though Fox still has all my prepaid money. Yes, Fox rental counter cannot help you even if they are double billing you. Fox is running a scam. Even if you get a good rate online through Priceline or whoever, they will not honor it..... even if you already paid. Also, if you look at all the reviews, the long lines have been around since 2018: More than enough time to fix the issue. Also, the car I got from Fox has 80,620 miles on it.
