I rented a car through a 3rd party, Priceline on July 28, 2026. Came to town for my son's Air Force Graduation in Lackland. I show up and they have my information and everything with Priceline. They said a car is not available. Why? They said I'll have to rent directly through them to get an available vehicle. I waited for 2 hours then gave in and rented directly through them. The worker will tell you they will email the receipt to you when the renting is finalized. They don't until you return the car. That's when you see all kinds of hidden charges you didn't even consent to. All kinds of hidden charges were added to my rental receipt. The worker named, Z. Devante added a pre paid fuel totaled of $44.88 which I never agreed to. If I had known that he secretly added the pre paid fuel charged on it. I wouldn't even pumped a full tank before turning in the car. I still haven't gotten my deposit back. Renter's beware of this shady business practice. If I ever end up in San Antonio Airport. I'm going directly to their booth and yelled out scammers and tell the other potential customers to stay clear and have them show your receipt to avoid hidden charges without their consent. read more

There are a ton of hidden fees, they upsell you and make you think you'll get your deposit back and don't. Looking closer at the receipt they sent me there are so many small unnecessary charges. Car renters BEWARE of the unscrupulous and deceitful practices and the consequences of initialing where the employee points to after verbally DECLINING the extra insurance. I am an insurance agent and when asked if I wanted the insurance I explained that our auto insurance covers rental cars and we didn't need it. The employee said in that case initial here and pointed to the provisions agreeing to pay for the insurance. This added almost $47.00 PER DAY to the rental. We traveled to San Antonio to watch my niece graduate from basic training in the Air Force. It was a long travel day and I was trying to take care of my five family members, one being a disabled veteran in a wheelchair.  I admit that I didn't read all the fine print. I took the employee's direction of initialing where they pointed after our verbal discussion. The agreement names the person helping us as Melissa, however I'm quite confident that the gentleman that serviced me goes by a different name. We tried to dispute this with our credit card and the dispute did not go in our favor. It added $93.00-94.00 that they took out of our $150 deposit which was not a good surprise and we don't want anyone else falling into that same trap. I was charged approximately $100 for Supplemental Liability Insurance (SLI) after being told at the counter that it was mandatory, despite having personal auto insurance that covers rental vehicles. When I questioned why I had never been required to purchase SLI before, the agent told me it was required because this is a smaller rental agency and because I booked through a third-party. Those statements are not accurate. Texas law requires liability coverage, not mandatory purchase of rental SLI when a renter has personal insurance. When I was asked to initial the agreement stating I was "voluntarily accepting" the coverage, I specifically questioned that wording. I was again told it was mandatory and that I would not be able to rent the car unless I initialed. I was traveling with my three-year-old and multiple bags, which made it difficult to push back further in the moment. This was a material misrepresentation at the point of sale. I filed a complaint with the Texas Attorney General and was refunded for the SLI. Just wanted to put that here in case anyone has this issue in the future, as I'm sure many will. read more

An other bad review it looks like for them charging people for no reason! They tried to charge me $14 a day for rental insurance even after I declined it. He made me read out loud the whole policy and it still didn't say I was forced to pay. So I declined it and he told me i didn't have an option. That being said I canceled the whole rental! I was able to pay $10 more and go to a different company that didn't make me pay for insurance even after having insurance! The WORST experience I've ever had. I paid ahead of time through a third party. Used the same credit card to give them after we arrived to our destination. They wouldn't accept It because of it being my maiden name and my real ID license had my newly married last name. They wouldn't accept my payment for a deposit because of this (even though I paid over $200 already). Had to go with a different rental car company which was double but they were great to work with. I've tried several times and Fox refuses to give me a refund even though I never got their car to drive and the representative never worked with me. I reserved and prepaid for a mid-size SUV at the Fox Rent A Car location at San Antonio Airport. When we arrived, the salesperson (Richard) told us there were none available. We were told the only options were to wait over an hour for the vehicle we had already reserved and paid for, or upgrade to a larger vehicle for an additional $17 per day. This was very frustrating because the rental had already been prepaid in advance, and we expected the vehicle class we reserved to be available. Being told we had to either wait a long time or pay more felt like an upsell tactic rather than a solution for an inventory issue. When a customer reserves and prepays for a specific class of vehicle, the rental company should either provide that vehicle within a reasonable time or offer a complimentary upgrade if it is unavailable--not pressure customers to pay extra. Overall, the experience felt misleading and disappointing, especially after arriving at the airport expecting the reserved vehicle we had already paid for to be ready. How should I start this. Avoid this place at all costs. The reviews don't lie and now I can see why. This company will continue to lose customers because of the lack in quality of service they provide along with a bad attitude of their customer service personel on site. The girl at their box office on the 5th floor has the worst attitude, straight from the get go you can just tell she didn't want to be there. Plain rude, or if she was just having a bad day, at least put a fake face on and take your feelings aside because this is what you applied for, customer service. Crazy thing is, I've been renting with the same exact drivers license the whole week. I travel often for work, my ID's are bound to have some wear and tear. She's the only one that's rejected it. She is either on top of her game, or she just don't want to do her job. 2. My assistant gave her the CC she booked with, AMEX Platinum. REJECTED. My assistant gives her her ID to show it matches and it's her. REJECTED. She said it needed to be in my name. Gave her my CC instead so it matches, AMEX Platinum same company but just in my name. Annoyed smirk on her face, not sure why. REJECTED. 3. Since my ID "can not be accepted" we tried to use my assistants driver license and her CC. REJECTED. We were providing everything she was asking for, but she was having some sort of power trip issue for no reason lol I've reserved cars throughout the country, I travel often for work, and have never come across something like this. It is wild to me. People can travel from thousands of miles away and get this type of treatment at arrival. Way to go FOX. 4. Then eventually she goes on to say sorry but we don't have your reserved car available but feel free to go to another rental with the same bad attitude. All that just to say the car isn't even available lolll She then says we can't cancel your appointment, but feel free to contact where you booked from and cancel. In my head, no problem, good riddance. Waste of time. 5. Her main job, was to turn you away, bad attitude power trip and all. No alternatives, no solutions, no effort whatsoever in trying to help and getting an appointment in. Way to go. She probably thought we wouldn't be able to book a car or something, not sure why. Booked with Sixt, got the keys and into the car in less than 5 minutes. We came out with great customer service, and 2 complimentary water bottles. Same information, ID's, CC's to book. Smooth sailing. Now that's what I'm talking about. Walked by the FOX booth to get our car from SIXT right next to them, line was stuck lol Probably the same lady giving the next person in line the same bad service and attitude. I'd say, FOX car rental reviews are bad because these are the people manning their customer service booths. Eventually they will just continue losing customers and their reputation as a company will continue to diminish. I had a great experience with the team at Fox Rental. Management team member Ares Aponte Rodriguez was FANTASTIC. He helped me to find and locate the car with no issues and helped me to navigate to my destination. When I had a concern, he addressed it on the spot and allowed me to go about my way with no issues. He lead a great team of customer service members to include Areisha who was so sweet and friendly and patient with me as I was trying to locate my paperwork. I was greeted by the agent Adriana and she was so nice. She provided me with outstanding customer service and provided me with details to get me along the way. She was inundated with guests, but she was patient and super quick. I was quite impressed. I will be coming back to Fox whenever I come back to San Antonio. It's one thing to have hidden fees, but to mandate someone to pay for insurance when they already have their own coverage is ridiculous. I want to express how frustrating this is because the total was $29 a day and they mandated that I pay an additional $15 for insurance that I did not want and they would not let me take the car unless I paid that, that is a 50% up charge. We, too, fell victim into the insurance scam, like everybody else. When we arrived at the Fox counter in May, we were asked the usual questions like whether we'd like to opt in for insurance. We said no. They asked us what insurance we had, and we told them what our car insurance was. They asked if our insurance would cover rental cars, we said yes. Then we were told to sign onto a small pin pad to confirm that we would not be getting insurance from them. We signed. Upon returning the car and receiving the receipt, we noticed the bogus insurance charge. It said customer fee or something along those lines so we wanted to see if it was our deposit and whether it would be refunded to our card which would have usually taken a week or so. It wasn't. Today, we decided to call Fox customer support to ask about the charge and they told us it was for the "insurance charge" that we "agreed to". Of course, we never agreed to it, and there were three times when they heard, knew, and confirmed that we said we did not want insurance and still charged it to us. It appears that they blatantly lied to make a quick buck. So, we asked to speak to a manager, and they said, "the decision is final" and did not let us speak to a superior in charge. Yesterday I provided this review on Google Maps and received a quick response from Fox, stating that they would "make it right." The links provided in the Fox response led me to a generic customer service page on their website and not to a person who can actually reverse this charge. Now looking through the reviews on Yelp, I see that adding supplemental insurance even though the customer declines it is standard practice for Fox. My Google Maps review: Very poor experience. I had prepaid the rental online before I picked up the car. At the time of rental I declined the supplemental insurance. The agent included it in the invoice with the $500 deposit, saying that it would be refunded after I returned the car. I was only refunded $400. When I questioned the charge they said that I had accepted the supplemental insurance, even though the agent said I was only signing off on the deposit. They 1st charged my wife a $500 deposit that we had no idea about. Then they did a hard pressure sale to make us buy their insurance for $100 when we had already bought the insurance on Booking.com. They made it seem that they wouldn't give us the car without their insurance. The girl at the counter was very insistent. Unfortunately my wife didn't understand that it was already covered and paid it. That killed a large part of our trip to see our son graduating USAF Basic Training. Getting clipped for an extra $600 at the beginning significantly impacted the trip. We barely covered the other expenses without that $600. In the Google reviews, it shows that other military families experienced the same thing. She had booked the car thinking it would be cheaper than Enterprise, which the upfront price was, by $100. But when everything was done, it ended up costing more. MUCH better to have gone with a more reputable company like Hertz or Enterprise where you can see all the hidden things before you book. So, while they did have everything listed and technically didn't do anything "wrong", their tactics are designed to confuse the average consumers. So, READ THE TERMS BEFORE RENTING HERE!!!! I will never use this company again. Bottom line, as I say above, make sure you read the terms and understand what you are signing up for. And know if the insurance that you already paid for will cover your trip, don't let them hustle you into the extra $100 insurance when you already paid a fraction of that to the booking company. I read that they get a commission for each person they sign up for this extra coverage so they sneak it in. I was asked if I wanted it and when I said no and that I had my own (even had my insurance card out to show her) she said ok. then I walked away and saw my card charged for 70.00 more then what I was told so I went back to the counter and she said I was forced to get the minimum coverage and the airport made it mandatory and if I didn't like that I can cancel my whole contract. after this hour long wait to get through lines I was upset and just believed her that it was mandatory. when I got to my hotel I researched it and it absolutely was a scam. they prey on people and I am disabled and they absolutely preyed on me thinking I was a easy target. I don't know how are they still in business. I also read that if I go to the counter and complain of them lying that they may refund me but will find something wrong with the returned car and keep your deposit. The car was a tad beat up and the bass was turned to it's highest setting. Someone definitely was riding around in that rental. I liked how the car didn't smell like smoke. Huge plus. Negative was, my credit cards have my maiden name on it and I was almost denied the rental car. The employee who was checking me in was trying to help but still a big turn off. The touch pad was so small to read, so we thought we were waiving insurance since we told Richard our Visa covered liability insurance. (My past experiences with rental car companies are that you initial to decline insurance.) If we had a full page lease agreement, we would have noticed the error. I emailed Fox, but since we initialed for the insurance, they said there is nothing they can do - they know this is a recurring problem. We were in San Antonio from February 20th-26th We flew out of Fort Dodge Iowa after a snow storm the night before. Due to the weather and delays we ended up missing both of our flights and arrived in San Antonio at 1145 pm. When we got to our layover I called and let you know that we were going to be late. I was told no problem we will be here until midnight. When we got to your counter we were told that there was only one car left and that they would not be staying past midnight. When we got to the car we did our walk around and everything was good. They next morning when we came out our tire was low so we went to the gas station and added air to the tire. We called road side assistance two times and were on hold for over an hour. We never did connect with anyone. We had to add air to the tire four times over the week of driving the car. When we booked the car through booking.com we were told the total rental price would be $356.85. When we got to the airport we put the car on a charge card.It finally posted to the charge card on 3/1. Imagine my surprise when I was charged $685.99. The difference in price was a second driver. Of which the second driver never did sit behind the wheel of the car but had the credit card the car was charged to.We tried to put it on a debit card and had issues so it went on a credit card. When I called and asked for a refund they laughed and said no can do you signed the contract. Now remember when we got there we were told we will help you and that is it. It was late we were rushed and we were told to sign here, here and here. Ok good-bye. If we would have known ahead of time that the car was going to cost us almost twice the amount we were quoted we never would have booked it. We will never use booking.com or Fox again. But now looking at your reviews it doesn't sound like a lot of people will. read more

A poor experience overall. I paid for the car rental on carrentals.com and then at the counter, Laura, the attendant, asked me if I wanted insurance. I declined. She asked me what insurance I have, I said I have my credit card insurance. She said okay and then added the insurance on there anyway, which was $17 a day. She had me initial and sign in a bunch of places and I did, thinking that it's for the car rental. Afterwards, I was charged for the insurance that I clearly declined. I think you have to be very very careful when dealing with them because they will lie and add insurance after you declined, hoping you'd be confused and not notice later. The car was also in poor shape. The mirror adjuster knob fell off when I tried to adjust the mirror. Then the next day, the exclamation light came on in the dashboard. But after my experience this week I will never rent from them again, their business practices are dishonest and fraudulent. They refused to honor my confirmed reservation because they didn't have any of the economy-class car I'd reserved, and said that unless I paid about $100 more, they wouldn't rent me the car. I asked them what the value of a reservation was if they didn't have to honor it, and I was told that "no reservation is guaranteed" (untrue) and that they never honored reservations made within 72 hours of pickup (shocking, if true.). The desk agent was unpleasant and combative. I declined their offer to gouge me, went and sat down and got to work on my phone, and was able to find a car at a competitor for the same price I'd originally booked with Fox. (Strangely enough, the other rental company was happy to honor that reservation, despite the fact that I'd made it only one minute earlier.) Fox, in two minutes, you turned a loyal repeat customer into someone who will never do business with you again, and who will encourage others to also take their business elsewhere. When picking up the car, I was forced to pay a bunch of additional money for the "liability insurance", which I explicitly declined when doing a check out, because I have a car insurance which makes this unnecessary. When I picked up the car I was FORCED to pay the money they printed, or else I would have no car to drive. This is $171.64 in addition to a bunch of added taxes, fees, rental taxes, etc. So in the end you will pay more than more reputable car rental companies would charge you, but get bad attitude and subpar cars. This is false advertisement: bait and switch. And the counter lady is super rude. So you have a choice: either pay the fees and go on with your day, or go down the rabbit hole of trying to prove that you signed and paper and paid for something that you didn't want to pay for. On top of the fact they wanted my sister to do all the calling for them its a shame how unprofessional and unorganized this company is I don't care if its cheap its not worth being treated like that and over an hour or more we waited.
