Dirty car!!! I didn't realize until I left the airport and drove two hours home. Never renting from them again

Dirty ass truck!!!!! Carpet smells like it has never cleaned. And Picked up two hours ago. Sad I left the airport garage which was kinda dark and didn't realize how dirty it was until I drove two hours home. Came back to say the charged me twice for one car seat. And I ALSO GOT A WARNING BECAUSE ONE OF THE REAR LIGHTS WAS NO WORKING.

    Welcome Avis Preferred

They say everything is bigger in Texas. That must include my disappointment with this AVIS lol. I've rented from AVIS 3 times at SeaTac (Seattle-Tacoma), and each of those times was pretty seamless. My first time in San Antonio, and it was anything but seamless. I signed up for AVIS Preferred so I could skip the insanely long line at the Rental Car Center and head straight to the rental car lot. Sometimes, you can go directly to your assigned car; otherwise, you could just go to the Preferred counter and check in there. Easy, right? Oh I wish lol. I didn't remember seeing anybody at the regular counter while I was passing through, but at the Preferred counter, there was a line that zig-zagged in three short rows. Even though the rows were short, they felt long because of how long each agent took with each customer in line. There were no more than two agents at the Preferred counter, and neither one of them showed any desire to be there. Not a big deal if your interaction is short and fleeting, but with how long the line was, it felt like an eternity! No joke, but it took about an hour before the female agent drove up to me in my assigned rental car. And there's more to it. Keep on reading. I tried to hop onto the AVIS app to see what car I'd be driving, but the app unfortunately kicked me out. Okay, no worries, I might be able to see my name on their Preferred Counter. No, turns out they only listed the first x or so names alphabetically, and my name was well after that x. Ugh! No choice but to wait in that long line. As I was waiting in line, I saw the female agent run to each customer's car from the Preferred counter, thus holding up the line even more. So incredibly inefficient! Why not just relay the information to another AVIS employee and have that employee drive the car to the customer instead? With every instance of this I saw, I almost wanted to pull my hair out of my head! It was so unbearable to watch! Like they made zero effort to try and make the process more efficient. I hated my experience waiting in line, especially since it was getting pretty hot, and I was starting to swelter in the hot Texas heat. When it was my turn, I saw how long the line was and estimated that the last customer in line would have had to wait well over an hour the way things were going. Meanwhile, the female agent needed 10 minutes to get me my rental car. After about 5 of those minutes, she walked back to me and asked me something about a truck. I couldn't hear her well and didn't know what exactly she asked, but since I don't drive trucks, I simply said that to her. And off she went again. What car was I going to get? When would she return?! Those questions kept floating in my mind for the next 5 minutes, anxiously awaiting the answers to both. She finally returned with a black car, which I was able to tell was a Nissan, but couldn't tell the model. I asked her, and she initially said Nissan Altima before switching her answer to Nissan Sentra. This can't possibly be good if she doesn't even know the car she just drove a minute ago lol. After finalizing my transaction, she handed me my key, and off I went. Since I had gotten kicked out of the AVIS app, I couldn't get out using the Express Exit, so I went to the Agent-assisted lane. The agent there told me I should have gotten a text with a QR code for Express Exit. I did get that text, and it took a few moments for that QR code to pop up. I had to place my phone underneath the QR scanner, and the gate in front of me opened. That agent at the gate also wished me a good day, something the agent at the counter neglected to do. Such a stark contrast in customer service! The car operated in a smooth manner throughout the duration of my trip to the Alamo City. However, there was some questionable decal on the left side windows. Usually, AVIS takes the time to thoroughly clean each vehicle between customers, but they didn't take the time to remove those marks on the windows?! On the flip side, at least it made it easier for me to identify my rental car in a crowded parking lot lol. I was expecting drop off to be as much of a pain as pick up, but it was surprisingly smooth! I simply had to drop off the car and leave the key inside. I don't think I even needed to wait for an employee to scan the car to verify my return of the rental car, but I made sure to check in with one to ensure I didn't have anything left to do before making my way to the airport. My experience picking up the car was definitely a 1. Luckily, the smooth operation and drop off of my assigned rental car brings this rating up to a 2. However, I still can't believe of all the cars they decided to give me, they chose one with marks on the windows that I didn't even know what they meant. If I make a return visit to San Antonio, I'll make sure to log into the AVIS app before my flight so I can try to see if I can bypass that line at the pickup counter.

    Broken rental van

We picked up a ford van on the 18th for the military graduations on the 19th and 20th. When we arrived at our rental parked the van next morning it was dead. Fought with Avis to get a replacement. Late for BMT graduation. Had to uber 9 people and Avis refused to refund. After went to airport to exchange and the manager was rude and stated ( Im the boss here and u wont have a different one till i see conf# ) even though it was on his computer. Argued for an hour finally got a replacement that is worse. Lights wont turn off on the inside. Parts broken on inside. Called and they said u only need it one more day so try to deal. 1st and last time with Avis.

I moved over to Avis because of all the problems Hertz was having with their customers and I was pretty pleased with the service. The staff at SAT were friendly and accommodating. The line moved fast and I was helped right away. When we went to get our car they had run out of the class of car we rented so they upgraded with no prob. The only thing I didn't like was no one walked around the car with you so I have no idea if they knew it was all scratched up. I took pics before I left so they were time stamped. Even when we returned the car they barely checked it out. This is a concern because who wants to get a bill or be blamed for something they didn't do. Overall I'll definitely use them again.

Does anyone pre-book a rental car only to show up at the location to be told they don't have any…read morecars, and they didn't honor their reservation? Because that's exactly what happened to me with Thrifty Car Rental at the San Antonio airport. I had a confirmed reservation (Confirmation #L4161609690) for a mid-grade vehicle, guaranteed with my credit card. In the days leading up to my trip, I received multiple emails and text messages from Thrifty assuring me that even if my flight was delayed, my car would be held because the reservation was guaranteed. Fast forward to Thanksgiving Day. I arrive at the rental counter after my flight, only to be told they had no cars available. No apology. No solution. No alternative. Just "we don't have anything" and essentially, you're out of luck--on a holiday, at an airport, after midnight. Both the customer service agent and the manager on duty were rude, dismissive, and completely uninterested in helping. Their explanation? That the system sends out "blanket texts" and emails. Apparently, those messages don't mean anything--even though it's the same computer system they were actively using to tell me I had no car. So let me get this straight: Thrifty's system is reliable enough to send repeated messages promising my car would be available Reliable enough to take and "guarantee" my reservation with my credit card Reliable enough that if I hadn't shown up, I'm certain my card would've been charged But somehow not reliable enough to actually honor a confirmed, guaranteed reservation? That's not a "computer issue." That's a business failure. Thankfully, Budget Rental actually came through and had a vehicle available when Thrifty did not--on Thanksgiving Day, no less. Budget saved my trip. Thrifty nearly ruined it. The entire purpose of pre-booking and guaranteeing a rental with a credit card is peace of mind. Thrifty offers none. What they offer instead is false reassurance, poor customer service, and zero accountability when they fail to deliver. If you're traveling for a holiday, a special event, or frankly any trip where you actually need a car, do yourself a favor and do not book with Thrifty. A "guaranteed" reservation with them clearly means nothing. Thrifty owes me more than an apology--they owe me a free mid-grade rental at any of their locations to make up for the stress, inconvenience, and complete failure to honor a confirmed reservation. Until then, I'll be actively discouraging anyone I know from ever booking with them.
