What a difference from a few years ago! I took my hunting buddy here for dinner before opening day of turkey season and our experience was pretty bad. I had made reservations in the bar to watch the NFL draft. They put us as far away from the smaller TV as they could and right next to the music speakers. We ordered Rye Old Fashioneds to start. They served us kiddie cherry juice and soda with a splash of rye. We complained that these were not old fashioneds and the bartender said that "that is how they make an Old Fashioned". So if we order fried chicken, would we get spaghetti and meatballs? This was ridiculous. The bartender did not offer to make us something else - he just walked away. We tried the raviolli special as a shared app. It was reheated frozen garbage on canned stewed tomatos. My friend had a brisket sandwich and I had the jalapeno burger for entres. Both were unremarkable and overpriced. We were both stomach sick for two days after eating here - must have been the ravioli "special". I cant imagine how I enjoyed our visit years ago. The owner sits in the dining room and greets guests as they come and go - friendly but wierd. He needs to fix his bad breath if he wants to talk to all the guests. read more

Called for a reservation, spoke to Sharon, not really very cordial, at all, am she was sort in tone and no thank you. The restaurant is very nice! Nice set up. When we walked in, no one greeted us, we stood there waiting, I walked around to the bar, no one. Then we noticed parts on tables, and walked around til we found ours. Riley the dog walks around freely greeting you & asking for treats. She is adorable and one of the positives! The server was attentive and did her job. I ordered the Blackened ChickenBacon Alfredo. It was terrible. Had a very odd flavor, and was very mushy. Comes with a small Piece of garlic bread which was good. There was a lot of chicken. Hubby said I should send it back, but I was hungry. Ate less than 1/2. Hubby's pulled pork sandwiches fair. Plain store bought bun, not much filling, with a portion a Cole slaw that was very thick but still runny, had a very mustardy taste. Service: Everyone we met here was very helpful and kind. Our waitress made great suggestions on what to order, and was flexible for what the kids liked. Food: We ordered a Reuben sandwich with a side salad, a hamburger with broccoli, a spicy elk chorizo burger with beans, and a chicken apple walnut salad. The Reuben sandwich was very flavorful and tender with nice crispy rye and the side salad was fresh and good but the champagne dressing was a bit sweet. The hamburger was juicy and classic and the broccoli was drenched in butter (yum!). The spicy elk chorizo burger was good, but a bit dry, as elk can be. The chorizo gave it a nice spice, but the beans were not very hot and a bit too sweet. The chicken apple walnut salad was very tasty, fresh, and flavorful, if a little overdressed. For dessert we sampled the peach cobbler with frozen custard and double fudge brownie with caramel sauce. The cobbler was light on peaches but tasty. The double fudge brownie was rich and luxurious. Environment: The environment here was wonderful. There was a small band playing covers of classic rock and country tunes, they had open garage doors which created a party vibe (and were safer for COVID since the indoor seating was open air), and they had lots of old western kitsch with a fox theme. There was also a friendly dog wandering around (Riley), which made it feel homey. We felt very welcome here. The environment made the visit memorable. All in all, this is a great place and we had a really good time. Highly recommended. Also, reservations might have been helpful here. read more

When we got there we found out that it's most reservation necessary because it's a small popular restaurant, the staff was gracious enough to accommodate our little family of three however. Foxfire is one of 3 restaurants in Alpine, and one of 2 that are open for dinner, so it's not like you have a lot of choice. I've had dinner there 3 times, and it's been bad every time, no matter what I ordered. The BBQ pork sandwich is terrible. It tastes like they have a big tub of refrigerated pork bbq from Walmart and they just microwave a portion and serve it up to you on a stale bun. The fries and onion rings are horrible. A buddy of mine had a burger - and said it was edible, but that was about as complimentary as he could be. Some other friends ordered a pizza, and said it also was horrible. The service is also not much. They seem to know they are in demand, and so don't seem to care at all about being friendly, prompt, etc. On the plus side, no one reported getting sick from the food, and that's good. So bottom line - if you are hungry in Alpine, you can get something to eat at Foxfire, but lower your expectations - way way down. Or better yet, bring some food with you on your trip and avoid Foxfire all together. read more

Stopped for a coffee and quick lunch yesterday. I ordered a peach cobbler and my boyfriend got the Thai rice soup of the day. We sat inside but there is a large outdoor area as well covered by a big white gazebo. The server was friendly and the restaurant was clean. My peach cobbler was absolutely delicious. It was topped with a big, fluffy pile of whipped cream, and there was a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream in it as well. The hot and cold combo were delicious and the cobbler wasn't too doughy or too peachy. T was a good combo. I recommend trying it out. read more

This is one of the better restaurants in Alpine. Always has good food and if your there on a weekend. They usually have a band playing. I would call ahead to make sure you don't need reservations. Who would have thought you would need reservations in Alpine. The food was good and so was the atmosphere. The only reason they're getting 4 stars for today's visit. Was my wife ordered cob salad. Everyone received their food and she didn't. They ended up putting the dressing on the salad and she requested it in the side. So they had to remake it. Everyone else had finished their meal when her salad was delivered. We asked for it to go and she didn't want to hold us up. When she checked, which was a good thing. They forgot to add the chicken. The waitress was assume, for as busy as they were. She took her meal off the bill and supplied her a dessert to go. I would recommend eating there before the other local establishments. read more

What a great find in this tiny town! On this warm summer day, Foxfire offered open air dining inside or outside. Either location allowed views of the beautiful surrounding scenery. The ambience was comfortable and friendly and the service was excellent. We enjoyed meeting the owner and hearing about how they restored the original house and added the new dining room and bar. They have an outside band stage where bands play on Fri/Sat nights. They also offer trivia on Sun. night. The food was really good and generously portioned. My husband loved his elk burger with side of coleslaw and my apple walnut chicken salad was really delicious and huge! We will make a point to return here again. read more

A lively, popular spot that offers good food and (on at least some nights) live music. Service was friendly, timely, and attentive. My wife had Chicken Alfredo, and I chose to treat myself with a burger (which I rarely do). Neither entree disappointed. I had baked beans as a side dish, and was pleasantly surprised at the large serving size. The owner came around and made sure everything was satisfactory. I yelped best lunch in town and this popped up so we decided to try it out being that we have already eaten at a few other places. We sat immediately and ordered our food quickly. Place is small and quaint. I like how they allow dogs and have their own dog friend roam around. The food however was subpar. The spaghetti was wetter than water, sitting in a pool of soupy noodle water. The meatballs, small and beef, you pay $4 for four of them. Granted it's all you can eat spaghetti, but who'd want a second bowl of soupy spaghetti with low quality meatballs. Oh, and mine had a hair in it. Head up to Springerville, about a half hour north for a decent dinner. read more

I've been to Foxfire several times now and love it. Here's what I love about foxfire. The location is nice because the main dining room has a small stocked bar and the seating area has a huge garage door that opens up to the outside patio. I've always been impressed with the service even on busy days. The food is excellent. I've tried several things on the menu but my favorite things is chicken bacon alfredo pizza. I've actually driven an hour and half out of my way to have this pizza. The only downside I have with foxfire is there hours of operation. I suppose if your in a small town it's hard to justify staying open all day and night so I understand why there only open from 4pm to 8pm. If your in Alpine and want a nice, quaint, quite place to get a quality meal try Foxfire! read more

I continue to find it very exciting that I can find a restaurant on a town with a population of 2000 that has a wine and beer list and interesting items on the menu. It is nice to know there are great little discoveries everywhere! Unfortunately, the Shrimp Scampi lacked any sort of flavor other than shrimp and fresh vegies. It was good. The shrimp was good. I just had to throw on a bit more Parmesan to get it going. My husband said the steak was REALLY tasty. So I'm thinking I should have ordered something more mountainy (is that a word?). The vegies on his dish tasted frozen or canned, but I'm thinking being at 8000 feet on a Sunday night could be a contributor to that. Although my vegies were fresh and the shrimp tasted good. Despite the my lackluster dish everything else was terrific. I loved the Snoqualmie Riesling and the great service and attention. So I'm thinking they are living up to their name Foxfire. It is the term used for the biolumescence that is created by some of the mushrooms that grow on the burnt trees in the forest. They are a light in this tiny town that glows with freshness! And they have their share of recent forrest fires. I truly am pleased with the evening. I recommend it to anyone that comes to Alpine! I will come back. read more

The atmosphere is what this place has going for it. I don't care for their menu. It's overpriced and limited. The owner walked around the restaurant with his large dog. It was distracting. At one point the dog was off the leash wandering over to customers eating. Some people don't mind this but some do. This was during dinner. There were plates stacked behind the table we were at and staff kept coming to get them which was also distracting. My bbq pork sandwich was good but my husband didn't like his chicken fried steak. Was recently there, and had terrible service at first... simple questions were greeted with an attitude... ignored it at first and the same lady came back and stood over my table as if we were doing something wrong and proceeded to bark orders at us. I couldn't take it anymore any told the lady to lose her attitude, come to find out it was the owner. If you can't handle busy, stressful situations, that may be the wrong business for you... the waitress that took our drink orders, however, was AMAZING! Remembered our drink orders, and took care of us despite being in a stressful environment! That place does not deserve someone as good as her! Quaint cozy place in Alpine...clean and friendly staff. We were able to get a table without a wait, which was good as they were busy. The food...simple, bland and way overpriced for what you are getting. I had the 'Bumble Bee Stew' and a salad. The salad apparently isn't included with an entree as I was charged $3.50 on top of the $14.25 stew charge. Nothing much to write home about...the stew is bland, rice is mushy, and its your basic vegetables. The hubby had the Pulled Pork Sandwich and french fries. He didn't touch his french fries as he stated they weren't worth eating and the pork sandwich is not the best he has had. We were also charged for an item that we had never ordered...so double check your bill prior to paying. Small town, but there has to be a better less overpriced option. Also, the owners/management should consider moving the bathroom and having more put in. The bathroom is smack dab right there for some tables to see when the door is opened and people are coming and going waiting for the bathroom. They had the placed packed (chairs backed up to chairs) with absolutely no social distancing at all. In fact, you would think they never heard of COVID. Twice I ordered a simple hamburger/fries dish and both times it arrived so charred black and dried out it was un-edible. Both times the waitress acknowledged I wanted medium-rare. I would have settled for medium. Well done wouldn't even describe the burnt piece of meat they tried to serve. After the second plate, I gave up and left. read more
