Maybe just bad timing. Restaurant had no water for close to 3 hours. The bar also. Not even bottled water for sale. Bathrooms were closed. Having Cancer, a bathroom is a necessity if you are drinking beer. Food was so,so.. the best was two years ago, my first visit. I was told the bartender, if you want water, go next door and buy some at the gas station. I felt management so have sent an employee out to buy bottled water. I will go back. Both as an employee and someone that loves yummy food I would highly recommend you come to Avery's. On the employee side I see the attention and detail they put into putting out quality food along with the countless hours to do so. I see how the owners make each one of us in our melting pot of a kitchen feel seen and cared for. Working under owners that ask us about our lives, celebrate our birthdays, grab us a treat on a hot day, throw a thank you party at the end of summer, and just genuinely care. I see the priority and their vision of making everyone that walks through those doors feel welcomed. And then there's the foodie in me. There is nothing on the menu that I don't love. Great local rural bar and BBQ stop. It is right on the highway and a great place to stop to get food. They do fired pizza and BBQ primarily. Order at the counter and you are given a buzzer to call you back when the food is ready. We went for lunch and it was pretty active, not much for non-alcohol options other than bottles and soda fountain. I went to the bar to get some nice craft beer. It is a full bar and can make whatever you need. BBQ was great, there are no sides unless you order additional or a meal. Not even a roll. Anyway, it was great BBQ and the place must rock at night as they have a stage for band and karaoke. Pretty large area for dancing and many video game machines. read more

We came in for dinner and my wife waited in line to place our order. I found us a small table near the bar. The owners wife came over and told me that I needed to move because a big party was coming in at 7pm. and they needed my table. I moved to another table and two guests sat down at the table I was asked to move from. She never asked them to move and no large party ever showed up!! We purposely waited until 7:30 and no large party ever came in!! I'm convinced that it was all because of the color of my skin!! We will never come back to this Racist restaurant! read more

Absolutely loved our experience at Avery's! From the moment we walked in, the service was amazing--everyone was incredibly friendly and made us feel right at home. Our food came out fast and piping hot, which was perfect after a long day of exploring the White Mountains. With its casual atmosphere, Avery's is the perfect restaurant for families and friends to enjoy a meal out together with something on the menu that everyone will enjoy. We dined in recently and enjoyed a delicious BBQ Meal. The meats were delicious and smoked to perfection. We also recently ordered three brick oven pizzas for takeout- the smoked BBQ chicken pizza was amazing- the perfect amount of BBQ sauce with delicious toppings. And the kids enjoyed the cheese and pepperoni. We all agreed that the brick oven is the best- perfectly baked with a slight char on the crust- all the flavors blended so well. The pizzas were good, not great. Could've been but the pepperoni was so full of grease. Once we poured off the grease it was good. The Brisket pineapple, again, could've been great, but very scarce on the brisket and the BBQ sauce was cold on it, and the wasn't happy bell peppers on it not mentioned on the menu. They expect a tip when all they do is hand you your pizza? You're expected to bus your own table when you're done. The pizza prices are great tho. I went to Avery's tonight for their steak special, and I had a medium rare steak, I've ate at a lot of high end steak restaurants, however, this was by far the BEST steak I have had! The great Yelp reviews led us to Avery's on a Tuesday evening. We were in the mood for meat and they delivered. The BBQ is ready good. The smoke flavor on the meat is forward and sharp. We were told they smoke with mesquite. The brisket had a deep smoke ring but was drier than I prefer. I thought the pulled pork was spot on. It was the beer battered onion rings that stole the show. They are big slices with crisp batter. There is a hint of beer taste. We washed all the meat down with drinks at the bar. Austin the bartender was friendly and professional. I have heard of this place a couple of times. This is the first opportunity we've had to try it out. It was yummy. The only issue I had was that there wasn't enough bbq sauce on the meat. I didn't see any extra sauce off to the side. There was a container (empty) with remnants of diced onions, pickles & jalapeños. The 3 meats were moist & tender - just needed more sauce for my liking. I don't like BBQ. Mostly, because of the smoke flavor and not fond of just meat. But hubs LOVES BBQ and wanted to stop here for lunch. So l, after reading Yelp reviews we pulled in to the large parking lot and went in. You go to the counter and the menu is printed above the window. They have fountain sodas and bottles in a tub with ice (including Mexican coke). There are limited non BBQ foods-salads and Mac & Cheese. Hubs wanted to try a couple of things but it was so much so I said I would share his. So Hubs got BBQ brisket and pulled pork with ranch beans. And I got a side of Mac & Cheese. The BBQ was excellent. It wasn't heavy smoke flavor and the meat was tender and delicious. Both of us enjoyed it. The ranch beans were good as well. The only thing I didn't like was the one thing I thought was safe-Mac & Cheese! It was dry and a solid in the cup. I only ate about half. Service was good. The menu was good for a BBQ place. And the food was some of the best we've had anywhere!! They won me over! I do recommend stopping by if you are near Springerville. We will definitely be back! I was in Springerville this past weekend, using it as a base while hiking in the White Mountains. I stopped at Avery's Friday night because I recognized the name and the high ratings here at Yelp. Well, I'm no BBQ fan and didn't stop here for that. I stopped and then stayed for the beer! Yes, the beer. I like to try craft beer while on my road trips and I walked into Avery's Waterhole to see what was on tap. There were 12 beers on tap, and ten were craft beers, including three from Pinetop Brewing out of Pinetop 50 miles to the west. I ended up having three beers that night. Avery's is more than just BBQ and beer, though. I stayed two nights on the grounds, renting a spot in the RV park behind Avery's. Since I just had my Honda CR-V with no hook-ups, it was only $8 a night. It was very quiet there! Lots of cottonwoods to provide shade for the long RVs. The one shower stall had heat and hot water, but a sink that drained too slowly. That drain was my one negative experience in the two days I was at Avery's. Avery's also rents out U-Haul trucks and trailers. The restaurant and Waterhole are closed on Sundays, but the rest of the week the place stays open until 8:30, but Fridays is country dancing night and the parking lot is packed past 10pm. I enjoyed my experience at Avery's and would stop in there again. Every employee I talked with was topnotch. Maybe next time I'll even try the BBQ. read more

I have to update my four stars to another half and the Yelp rounds up... If I go here near everytime I come up in the area, how I can say only four stars? The brisket, pulled chicken and pulled pork are all freaking good. The former is the star, especially if you ask for the lean brisket - just you do that later in the evening so I can be sure to get mine. The chicken is delicious. They used to have it similar to the pulled pork, more shredded, but this time it was chunk'd. For all meats it seems they purposely limit fat and focus on remaining flavor of slow cooked goodness. My only half star removal is I have a shared experience with takeout that something is missing 75 percent of the time. Usually a sauce or extra item but we have had a full side missing when we got home. So on you to check before you leave the lot. Looking forward to trying a dessert one of these times but I have no clue how someone would/could not fill up on the bbq meats, great slaw and corn on the cob. Also cannot wait to try the fish and fried chicken for one of their nightly specials. Eat well here and naps are free. read more

I only stopped at this gas station to use the bathroom while driving from Vegas to El Paso but couldn't resist the smoky smell of delicious MEAT! I wish we had more time to eat in but still had 6 hrs to go on the drive. We got the family meat platter for $29 and it did not disappoint. Didn't interact with anyone other than to order food so cannot really answer that part of this review. I would recommend stopping here and enjoying the meats. The food remains the cornerstone of this business and is certainly worth the money and the drive. I think it is important to note that social distancing did not seem to be important to the business or the clientele when I stoped by to pick-up food this evening. The business placed marks on the floor to help patrons maintain safe distances while waiting to order at eh the BBQ window but no one paid much attention to them and stood a lesser distances. Staff does not wear masks and none of the customers in the BBQ ordering section wore masks. We probably will postpone any future visits to this business until COVID-19 conditions are such that the relaxed precautions employed by this establishment allow us to do so. read more

This was worth the 3 1/2 hour drive. Seriously just wanted to get out of the craziness and heat of the valley, and the reviews for Avery's looked pretty good. The pulled pork and brisket are tender and succulent. Their BBQ sauce is a perfect balance of sweet and tangy, and I love that they serve it warm. The chicken is good and so is the Mac and cheese, but the brisket and pulled pork are superstars. We will definitely come back for the ribs and sausage! Great place for bbq. Best location in the White Mountains. Friendly staff, clean, and nice atmosphere. Pulled pork and ribs were excellent with just the right amount of char. Really liked the sweeet potato fries with chipotle ranch dip. Sauces were good too. Only thing I didn't like was the cole slaw as it didn't have much flavor. Otherwise, we all loved our food. We stopped by this place of BBQ brilliance purely by chance when we stopped by the 76 for gas and popped in to see what it looked like and we knew by the smell that this place is special! This place was voted best BBQ in Arizona 2018 & 2017. I got the BBQ brisket sandwich with the BBQ ranch beans and my girlfriend got the Carolina pulled pork sandwich with Mac & cheese. Really good food! We tried the two dishes touted as "local favorites." The green chile Mac and cheese was delectable. Smooth, creamy sauce with just a little spice covers perfectly cooked elbow macaroni with big chunks of smoky chicken throughout. The -BQ rolls deliciously combine finely shredded brisket with with tomato, cilantro, oregano and onions into a machaca, then rolled in a flour tortilla and deep fried. Served with chipotle ranch as a dipping sauce, it was very satisfying. The brisket sandwich is served with a perfect amount of spicy and not TOO sweet bbq sauce to bring out the perfectly smoked flavor of the meat without overpowering it. Highly recommend! read more

We dropped in for takeout and ordered various menu items. The meat was tasty but I personally am a dipper - meaning I prefer to dip my food into any sauces rather that the sauce be drizzled over the food .... in most cases anyways. BBQ is one of those cases. I didn't realize the brisket came soaked in the BBQ sauce or I would have probably requested it without the sauce. Still none the less, it was good. As for the sides, I was not a fan of the potato salad but the Mac and Cheese was delicious! They had a Green Chili Chicken Mac and Cheese that I wish I would have tried over the brisket and sausage. I'm not sure what covid guidelines apache county restaurants have to follow, but I was under impression apache county restaurants staff are required to wear face coverings. We stopped 9-5-20 was going to try dine in for 1st time since covid. Walked in. Not one staff was wearing ppe, neither was any patron. I was a little disappointed as it seemed all other business in springerville are using caution and ppe and requiring before entry . We decided to order take out instead. While food was pretty damn good. I wont go back.. I'm my opinion, this non willingness from probably the busiest food joint in town to take necessary steps, even if they feel they are unnecessary is very irresponsible..
