I arrive to see all black stylists so I'm optimistic. The stylist sits me down then proceeds to say "so we don't have a sit under dryer to dry your hair... do you want wet braids?" I confusedly said no I don't want to leave the salon with wet braids. So then she says "ok well we have a way of washing your extensions without getting your braids wet" meaning that they wouldn't WASH MY SCALP. I ask who goes to get their hair washed and doesn't wasn't their scalp cleaned. And why wouldn't you tell me you don't have a sit under dryer when I spoke with you on the phone so I didn't waste my time coming here?! She tells me "well some people don't mind having wet braids..." wet braids lead to mildew in your hair. And regardless of what people are ok with, as licensed cosmetologists, you should want to provide healthy services and/or make it clear your limitations before you waste people's time. I should have just continued to assume that dry bar wasn't for black people. Instead they proved that to me themselves.

My hair has not changed since I first reviewed this place. I do visit other shops because of just being easier to get to. I was told by several Dominican stylist even ones at this Salon To get roller set so I have always gotten a roller set. I ask for roller set this time she going to tell me my hair too natural for roller set. So she does the blow out. Within three hours my hair had reverted it looked nice when she finished but after three hours it was a wrap it was no longer straight and flowy so I paid 75.00 for a 3 hour hair style and I can usually make a roller set/blow out last 2- 2 1/2 weeks. These new stylist definitely dont know how to work with natural hair. Not to mention I wasn't sure if I was even in a salon anymore with the play pen and the walker and the stylist taking care of a baby and trying to do hair as well

I have been going to Julia's for several years. I've previously seen reviews raising concerns about…read morepossible chemicals being used in their shampoo and "deep conditioner," but until now, that had never been my experience. Because of those reviews, I am always extremely cautious--I normally bring my own products and explicitly request that nothing else be used on my hair. This time, I made the mistake of forgetting my products and had to rely on theirs. Immediately after the so-called "deep conditioner" was applied, my scalp began burning. I asked what was used and was told it was only deep conditioner and that no chemicals were involved. That explanation makes absolutely no sense. I have not had a perm in nearly 15 years, yet the burning sensation was identical to a perm burn. I washed my hair today, and if there was any doubt before, it is now gone. Whatever was used altered my hair's natural texture. My hair is naturally curly--after washing it, my curls are gone and my hair is now noticeably straight. In Photo #2, the left side is from today's wash. The right side is from my last at-home wash. The difference is undeniable. There are no curls on the left. Photo #3 is my usual hair texture. I can't help but question whether this was done to make my hair more "manageable," especially since my longtime stylist, Veronica--who was meticulous and respectful of natural hair--suddenly left the salon. The current level of care and consideration is clearly not the same. I've seen previous responses from Julia disputing similar claims. I am not interested in a response. Nothing anyone says will reverse the damage that has been done to my hair. I am beyond frustrated and deeply disappointed. I will never return, and I plan to report this to the BBB and pursue any other recourse available. While nothing will restore my hair to its natural state, I hope this review prevents someone else from making the same mistake I did and continuing to support this business.

I was excited to try it out because the salon looks very professional and has the Bb products I like to use. I went three times prior to my bad experience and had a great wash, haircut, and style; I even left with some products to replicate the style at home on my own. However, My last experience I had I made an online booking at 11 am about a month out from the date. I requested a personal day as I only get my hair cut around 3 times a year--which makes it a specialty experience for me. I received a call around 10:15 asking if I could come in later because they had double booked my time; even though I really wanted to get the haircut in the AM hours I wanted to be accommodating and agreed to come in for a 2:00 appointment time instead. When I got there, I had to wait until 2:30 in the tiny lobby area until finally my stylist said they would offer me a free deep conditioning as a result of me being accommodating. I was excited because hair health is really important to me and I made my way to the hair washing station. The young woman who was washing my hair was hyping up the hair masque she was saying I was going to get and explained thay it was a multistep process. The first being some kind of deep cleansing shampoo that supposedly gets out dead skin ...etc. She puts this on, I sit for 10 min, and rinses-- the next thing I know I'm being taken over to the stylist station. I am very shy when it comes to speaking up so I kind of had a *trust the process mentality. I was nervous not having had a real shampoo and conditioning, but I decided to trust the professionals. Next thing I knew, she cut my hair in 10 min time and then started to blow dry. At this point I knew my service was being rushed, and I should've said something, but I didn't. At the end I not only paid more for the service because "the price of products had gone up," built I had so much breakage as a result of the chemicals left in my hair. I struggled for a while deciding if I wanted to leave a review because I didn't want to mess up someone's career but I figured keeping it anonymous was a way I could at least warn future customers about my experience. I have not gone back since. I'm rating a 3 because I have had excellent service; unfortunately, this horrific service out weighed the experience of the former.
