My balayage by Justin was absolute perfection. He's very careful and makes sure to do an awesome job. It was my favorite haircut/coloring ever. All the reviews about him are spot on. See him if you want to feel super pretty! As far as sanitation procedure goes: Flaunt takes it very seriously. Guests must wait outside until the stylist is ready. They get a temperature check and screening prior to entering and everyone wears a mask. Only two customers are allowed in at a time and everything is sanitized between customers. There was definitely lots of social distancing, except between you and the stylist during the session. I was also surprised by this, but I didn't have to move my mask once during the session. Aw man, I waited awhile to post this but I'm about to get another cut soon and I thought about my experience here. My friend recommended the place cause she gets her hair done by Jess who does an amazing job for her. I decided to give it a shot as a gift to myself for my birthday. Appointments were pretty booked up with Jess, so I took my chance with Nazz. Let me start off and say, he was really nice and easy to talk too. He made me feel very comfortable and that is rare for me since I get anxiety every time I have to cut my hair. I asked for long layers and my hair dyed permanent black. Simple. That being said, my finished hair was absolutely TERRIBLE. First he tied my dry hair in a pony tail, pulled it down and cut straight across. Then snipped the ends... my hair was not wet at all during the cutting process. Then, while he was dying my hair, he told me that he did Demi permanent.. which is not what I asked. I didn't notice how bad it was till I washed it the next day and took The curls out. I had to go to my mom who did hair years ago to fix it. Unfortunately she had to take some length off to fix the uneven mess that it was. I had never cried over my hair before, but I did this time. I spent $160 and tipped. I feel like I've gotten way better cuts at Bubbles for half the price. My friend asked me why I didn't say anything, I was too afraid to have my hair butchered again. Having recently moved back to Maryland, I have been searching for a new hair artist. I confess that I'm picky, as my hair is not forgiving of a lame cut. I feel, though, that a good hair cut makes a world of difference in how I feel about my appearance and therefore how I carry myself. To me, it's worth finding someone good and spending a bit more time and money (my cut was $50) than at cheapie the-fast-food-of-salons salons. I got my hair cut last week at another salon and... Well, today I went to Flaunt to have it fixed. First, I arrived about twenty minutes late because I hadn't allowed enough time to find parking. I felt badly about that and rushed, but Jess was very nice and understanding about that. When I went in, I noted the atmosphere of the salon was fun, funky, cheerful and relaxing. Jess has great hair, which is always a good sign. Then I was offered a beverage and we talked about my hair. She agreed with my assessment of the cut from last week and fixed it, doing what I had envisioned originally, efficiently and very well. I am very happy with my cut and think I have found my gal! She consulted with me on color, which we didn't have time to do today, and I'm going back next week for that. All in all, super fantastic. Hey time for another Flaunt Kevin Murphy product fix. What's great is that the first Friday of the month the products on the shelves are discounted. Each product you purchase gets an increasing discount from 5 to 15% on up to three products. I loaded up today on a lovely trio for my hair. Because my hair needs needs the volume increased I bought KM plumping wash which really works for my hair. Then I bought the Anti.Gravity volumiser to which my colored tresses are addicted. Lindsey also recommended the Hydrate-Me .Masque to keep my fizzy hair hydrated and smooth. I have never used this but hope that it performs as well as my other two favs. Lastly Lindsey is like a pharmacist for the hair. She really knows and understands how to use and pair these products so that you get the results you want. She said she is getting a new line of KM products for the holidays and that I can make an appointment to view these goodies. Wow how many shops can make you feel so good about purchasing hair products. This little gem on 36th does it for sure. read more

I live around the corner and while there are a lot of salon options, their sidewalk sign always appealed to me and they advertised vegan products. The first time I went I got a cut by someone who is no longer there and I was happy with it. When I went to schedule again I ended up seeing Lindsay and I LOVED my cut and will continue to keep going back! The salon is nice, clean, and as wonderful and precise as the decor is, the vibe is very laid back. Both Lindsay and Jess are very friendly, and do a great consultation (I haven't gone to Jess but she's so open and friendly and it is evident her customers are very happy). They always offer a drink of water, tea or even wine or a local beer! I really like the products they use and they are really great about recommending different products without being pushy or overly salesman-like about them like some salons can be. My experience started as a pleasant one, Liz reached out and scheduled my appointment for this past SATURDAY for 1:15PM, we spoke in great detail that I needed a simple trim to remove the dead ends, shampoo and blow out. Time and price was agreed upon with a stylist named Nazz; then the nightmare began. I arrived early to the salon for my appointment, I proceeded to go to the front desk to check in but it was empty, I'm guessing the only employee that works the front desk is Liz and she was not there for whatever her reason was. Not a soul in the salon spoke to me as I walked around looking at the products confused until some lady asked me why I was even there in the first place, I explained Liz made my appointment personally and I was told to SIT AND WAIT. I did until well after my appointment time, I returned to the empty front desk where I assume NAZZ loudly told me I'm running late, not I'm sorry I'm behind today please give me some time and I will have you in my chair, he proceeded to walk upstairs and have the same lady tell me he wouldn't be seeing me today and rushed me to the door. I reached back out to Liz and her problem problem solving was to go to "A BETTER STAFFED SALON" WHICH I WILL DO, I WILL NEVER SPEND A SINGLE DOLLAR at flaunt. I am disgusted with how this establishment treats new clients. I will make sure to let all my friends and family to never go. Plus my following on my social media platforms. Nazz not only did you seriously mess up you lost a very handsome tip because that was my only day off between work and doctors and I haven't had my hair done in years. I will mention this to every salon I go to as well seeing that you clearly do not care about your position in this industry. I usually get my hair cut in NYC, because of a variety of reasons. One, my stylist tsutomu is awesome in almost every way. Stingray skin holster for his clippers and scissors? Yep. Snakeskin boots? You know it. Hassy 530c just chillin by the laptop? You know it is, and it is full of medium format provia most likely. In other words he is the dopest. He is also really far away, so I needed a place in Baltimore to get my hair trimmed and teased and generally made to look real nice. I came in to get my hair cut by Heather, and I think the results speak for themselves. Look at my profile picture. JUST LOOK AT IT. I was like "I want a cut like Morrissey" after talking about Morrissey all evening the night before with my housemate, and when I walked in she had a picture of Moz at her station. Get. The. Fuck. Out. Hairdressers on fire, son. The salon also offers you a drink, which I declined only because I was scooting around instead of walking. There is a cat that chills in the salon and when you see it sleeping in a little cat bed it looks at you and is like "hey, I'm a dope cat with a sick haircut myself, nbd" and it really is not a big deal, because the cat is just naturally awesome. So it goes. The haircut was great, and Heather also showed me how to maintain this ridiculous pompadour with special mouse and my usual style of wax, and just careful application of a roller brush to maintain some height and volume. I bought some product here, because I needed some for MD. Oh, and Heather is hot, so there's that too. A men's cut is not that expensive, and even if it was, who gives a shit? I look baller right now. Seriously. Like I woke up and I looked baller in the mirror, even slightly hung over and bleary eyed. Just bite the 20 dollar bullet, come in, and TREAT YOSELF. read more

After living in the Baltimore area my entire life, I have FINALLY come across a salon and stylist I love. I've literally never gotten a haircut that I love before, except for once, in Mexico City. This would become a topic of conversation with Lindsay, the owner/lead stylist who cut my hair. I'm Mexican and I have A TON of thick, semi-course wavy hair. Literally, I have about 3 x's the typical persons amount of hair. It's a bit of a joke amongst my friends and family. In my opinion my hair is a hop, skip, and a jump away from being African American hair. The main difference is that my hair isn't quite as textured and has much more movement to it. Needless to say, I have difficult hair and it was down to my waist when I walked through Flaunt's doors, and I had a semi-formed, hair wrap dread at the base of my neck. A stylist's worst nightmare, right? I'm used to the look of horror from stylists when I take my hair out of it's bun and sit down in the chair. As they frantically comb through it and listen to what I want, I can see the sweat beads forming along their hair lines and the panic start to rise in their voices. Not only did Lindsay compliment me on my hair, (making me feel really awesome) she listened closely to what I said and made suggestions to the picture I brought in that would make the cut feasible with my hair. I wanted blunt bangs a la Zoeey Deschanel and I wanted my hair to be shoulder length. Given my texture and body, she suggested a longer cut and some wispy side bangs to set off the blunt bangs. Additionally she made sure that I knew this hair cut would require daily styling on my end, (which I was okay with). Throughout my experience, Lindsay was warm and engaging, and I felt like I had walked out of there with a new friend! Her adorable kitty kept us company in her little bed, which was amazing, because I love cats. Like, a lot. Lindsay kept our conversation flowing and it felt super natural, like I was just hanging out with a friend and just so happened to also be getting an amazing haircut. We even talked about eventually getting some crazy blues and purples into my hair, and maybe even working that dread back into my hair, but done correctly. She showed me her color swatches, and I'm really impressed by the variety, as well as how pigmented and rich the colors are. All of the products she used were vegan and smelled delicious. I loved the way they made my hair feel and I ended up purchasing the J. Beverly Hills shampoo and conditioner. She had a great deal and I got a free full-size shine mist with my purchase! When all was said and done, and I looked in the mirror, I couldn't believe how amazing my hair looked. It was soft and super shiny, and everything looked beautiful...but my bangs weren't laying quite right. Lindsay noticed immediately and immediately corrected it by cutting a few more layers in. Within seconds, it was perfection. I mean it. They frame my face so well, I truly felt like I got a customized haircut. I waited a little over 2 weeks to write this review, to allow the hair cut to grown in, and it's still prefect, even when I don't style the bangs. She cut my hair in such a way that it looks great straight or wavy. I obviously have to straighten my bangs everyday, but it takes about 5 minutes and I swear, I get so many "looks" since I've gotten this haircut. I was on the welcome end of many compliments that day, from classmates, professors, my boyfriend, friends and even 2 perfect strangers. I'm used to the occasional random compliment, but to be complimented over and over again for the following days was so awesome. I felt so good and I can't believe how much of a difference a hair cut can make in a person! Lindsay you are amazing. Flaunt is amazing and the products you recommended are great. I just moved to Baltimore in January from NYC and it has been tough trying to find the right salon. For my first haircut I went to a different salon in Hampden (one with very high ratings and lots of them) and I felt as though I was an annoyance to my stylist. I'm not good at small talk and don't love to gab with whomever is cutting my hair, but this woman barely said two words to me. I liked the haircut well enough but when I asked about putting some funky color in my hair the next time I came in, again I got an almost brushoff and an "I guess, if you want" attitude. For my second cut I wanted to stay in the Hampden area because it's my favorite neighborhood so I decided to try out Flaunt based on the great reviews. Let me tell you, I am so glad I did! Jess was so nice and really thought about what kind of cut would work best for my short, super-thick, curly, low-maintenance hair. When I told her about my idea to add a little color she was very enthusiastic and brought over the color swatches right away. She talked about how the colors would work with my hair and even took a couple of snips of my hair to test out the two colors I was most interested in. She talked to me the whole time she was cutting and it never made me feel uncomfortable. She even explained how to best bring out the curls in my hair and what products and styling tools would be most helpful. Amazing!! I had Heather, the Jr. Stylist, and I will definitely be returning. She saved me from myself (I had frugged up my hair color by using a box dye that, inexplicably, lifted the color in my roots and did nothing to the rest of my hair). I now have a glorious, chestnutish color. AND I now have someone to consider "my stylist" and a place to call "my salon" in Baltimore. OH! And there's a KITTY! Which, for me, was a huge plus. Cuz I'm a crazy cat lady. EDIT 6/1/13: I have now had Heather cut my hair as well--and it was a big cut, like 5 inches off. She did an incredible job, and was great about asking the head stylist for tips (important for someone who is a jr. stylist, learning all the tips and tricks). I'm fairly new to the area, and have been casually looking for a new place to cut my hair. The other day, when my hair situation was looking pretty desperate, I called Flaunt after researching places on Yelp, and made an appointment with their new stylist, Jess. The appointment was made for the next day (got to love when they can fit you in quick). When I arrived, Jess greeted me at the front desk. She was super friendly and knowledgeable as we talked about my hair and what I wanted to do with it. I also told her I was thinking about changing the color, and, even though she didn't have time to do color that day, she gave me a ton of ideas to think about. She did an excellent job on my hair, and I am excited to go back next week to try out one of her color ideas! Also, the salon is super cute. I love the hot pink, animal prints, and chandeliers. UPDATE: I have been going to Flaunt for a year now and I just want to say that I have never been happier with my hair as I am now!! I schedule for trims every 2 months and I am very happy with the service. Ever since I started coming here, I found my inner badass. I've been more comfortable with change and went from long hair down my back to a nice inverted bob. I'm constantly going shorter and I love it! I switch between Lindsay and Heather, based on availability and I must assure you, they are both AMAZING!! I had Heather for my last 2-3 cuts and I decided to show her pictures of stacked inverted bobs and she did exactly that. (SHOUTOUT TO HEATHER!!) I am always pleased with my haircuts and still HIGHLY recommend this salon! Thank you girls!! I used to spend over $100 for a haircut at Red Door and not like my hair when I left the salon. I found Flaunt and I absolutely love it, I wish I found it sooner. Lindsay is awesome. She's super creative, has a great sense for what will look good and has fun doing her job. We tried glue in extensions on my hair and it's the best thing I ever did. Lindsay and Jess are awesome! I love this shop! Lindsay has worked with me to find the right extensions to give my shorter limp hair volume and texture. That is a feat! And with affordable maintenance so I can keep it going. I couldn't be more pleased. 5 stars for personality, skill, risk taking ( nobody wants to cut extensions shorter lengths), artistry and cutting edge knowledge of what's new out there in hair! I first started going here after another salon over bleached my hair and left me with bleed marks, looking like a fried zebra. I had a great experience at Flaunt. I had Jess do my hair, and she was wonderful. I brought in some pictures of things I like, and things I don't like. I've been a little picky and spoiled with regard to hair dressers in previous cities, so it's fairly surprising to myself that I'm going to stick with the first place I went! The salon is cute, there's lots of street parking. Their schedule does book up fairly far in advance, especially if you want to get the after-work evening or weekend hours. But it's easy enough to look through their online schedule and find a time that works. Jess had me laughing and chatting all along. It feels like catching up with an old friend, the way we just kept talking. I came out with a wonderful haircut, and got compliments right away. I mean, I left the salon and went to work, and immediately my co-workers were like "what did you do to your hair today? it looks fantastic!" =) I'll be back. You should go check it out. read more

I moved to AA county 2 year's ago and have been to 4 salons, in hopes of trying to find a stylist as good as Lindsay, no luck, so I came back! I have been a fan since the opening in April...I passed by a thousand times before i stepped inside in June for extensions. It was a risky thing for me to do since i had never had them done, not even snap in extensions prior to the real thing so when i say it was hard to walk in and just do with no knowledge really of what to ask for, than i must say i am one of the luckiest girls in the world! it came out perfect and THEY DIDN'T COME OUT!!!! Seriously no complaints everyone was working on my hair at one point and everyone was beyond nice, so perfect, the shoppe is so cute and just what youre looking for when u walk into a salon to get real hair extensions, scared, lost and clueless! As far as the atmosphere and i couldnt ask for more! it is very welcoming, homey and bright, it reminds me of the people that work there. I have been looking for a place to get a haircut in Baltimore way too long. Tried different places with groupon and living social, and took friends recommendation but no one really stood out. The bottom line is that Baltimore isn't a place for Asian hair. So I was about to give up, thinking maybe I need to pay $300 for a cut in DC. But I thought maybe I will check with yelp, and found this place. One VERY enthusiastic review convinced me, and he was right. I love this place. They are super nice, they take time to really style your hair, and I was lucky enough to get a special treatment of having both heather and lyndsey work on me. I am very picky with my layers and they did a really good job. I kept getting compliments several days after the cut too. And the cat is cool too. I have been working with Lindsay, the owner of Flaunt, as my stylist for the past several years. I cannot recommend her or the salon more highly. The salon itself is charming, and is in a great neighborhood. It's an easygoing and friendly atmosphere, and Lindsay does her best to make people comfortable, always offering beverages to people when they come in, etc. Having always been relatively conservative in my hair choices in the past, I have made some brave new hair choices since I started working with her, and Lindsay has been with me every step of the way, always willing to take the time to discuss possibilities, and always up for trying new things. She takes great care with her choice of products, from shampoos to color, and I really appreciate her use of paraben-free products. Flaunt's prices are VERY reasonable. There was only one time I was not happy about a color we tried, and Lindsay was more than willing to work with me to make it right. I have admired Lindsay's work on other clients as well as on my own, and have NEVER had so many people compliment me on my hair color and cut as I have since I started going to Flaunt. I love Lindsay and Flaunt. I have recommended many people to her. I first started going to her after a girl in another salon butchered my hair into a nouveau-mullet. Not so awesome. Since I have been going here, she has calmly and awesomely nudged me out of my long straight boring mousy brown hair comfort zone and has encouraged me to try new things. As an experienced stylist she has done this in increments. I wanted to get bangs and go bright red, but knowing my track record of only going every 6 months she refused (ok, not really refused, but nudged me in a different direction, black cherry). She told me she would not let me go so drastically from my haircolor until I proved I would come back regularly for maintenance. She knew I would be unhappy with my hair if it were too high maintenance and I would not keep it up. It has been 2 months and I am going back to get my bangs trimmed and some more color done, because I want something more fun. I completely trust Lindsay with my hair. The month before, I had tried to get an appointment with Cliff at sprout but he was all booked up and I went to Flaunt (with Jess) 2 blocks down the street. I think she was much better. The flaunt salon was not really my style (a little too punk rock) and Jess had pink hair and was intimidating to me. But she did an awesome job and made me look elegant and gave a great cut that I loved for a few weeks! It was one of the few times I actually walked out and felt like I got a new style and red carpet worthy. ( i have long straight hair, so it's hard to make it look too different) She was an awesome stylist and I will definitely be going back to her- for cut or just to style. No wait, and cost less (marginally) but much better job than the guys down the street. I got into see Cliff 3 months later and I was NOT impressed at all. I got a cut, color and feather extension by Jenny last week. LOVE my new look. I went in thinking I was going to get the same ole dirty blonde highlights and layers that make my hair look horrible, but I came out with a very blonde bob and a bright green feather extension. Love that she was comfortable enough to make a recommendation that was different from my current look and not exactly what I was after. She made sure I was comfortable with going in the direction she suggested before making the cut and I couldn't be happier! I've even been getting compliments from strangers! I've found my new hair dresser! read more
