I avoid writing bad reviews because I don't like putting that karma in the universe. That said, Foxhall's Administrative staff deserves the lowest score possible. I have had two appointments with them. The first time, they screwed up my medical insurance, billing my wife instead of me, and it took them so long to fix the problem, with them consistently insisting that we made a mistake, that we eventually had to pay cash because we missed all deadlines. This time, I made the appointment months in advance, confirmed at three weeks in advance, and they had no record of the appointment when I arrived. In fact, they insisted that I had never been there, and that they had no record of me. When I gave them the specific day and date of my last appointment, they were able to figure out that they had my wife's name instead of mine. (hence why they billed her insurance instead of mine last time). In the end, I drove an hour for an appointment I had confirmed three weeks in advance, and was refused service. No medical care is worth this amount of headache and administrative ineptitude, when there are other very good dermatologists in the DMV. read more

Maybe I got too excited? Dr. Suah is nice and personable, and seemed to listen to what was shared and offer a general plan; if you are going to see a derm for an issue, it would have been great if there were some options that one could do in the meantime to alleviate. The office staff here is probably one of the worst I've experienced - one assistant, who had just seen me to ask pre-visit questions, came back in about 10-15 minutes, trying to direct me to the front to check-out. Yes, you got that right - I didn't even see the doctor! I was also promised that I would receive a printout or a copy of specialist referral, my next steps, and 'tons of samples to try out different brands' to see which one worked best - what I ended up receiving was 2 samples of the sample brand (are you serious?), and me having to follow-up by leaving messages and trying to connect with their staff to provide me the promised information. Poor communication and experience - just felt that the visit was a waste and the 'patients' were treated as a number. +poor/lack of communication +limited street parking in the area read more

I had a phenomenal experience with Dr. Suah and Foxhall Dermatology when I was dealing with a recent growth on my scalp (that luckily ended up being benign). To begin, I was able to get an appointment really quickly, which felt like a miracle given how long the waitlist was at my previous dermatologist. On the day of my visit, I barely had to wait before the appointment began, which was another welcome surprise. Dr. Suah's nurse was wonderful, and helped put me at ease before the doctor arrived. Here's where I should mention that I'm a huge, neurotic baby when it comes to doctors and medical procedures, especially those involving needles, and I'm sure it's obnoxious for anyone who has to deal with it. Since I was dealing with a growth that I was concerned could be malignant, my anxiety level was especially (probably irritatingly) high that day. Dr. Suah was quick and decisive when he looked at my scalp and told me that he wanted to remove the growth immediately. During the procedure, which was much more efficient than I could have imagined, he did an excellent job of keeping me as calm and relaxed as possible--not an easy task! Afterward, he did a great job of explaining the biopsy process, essentially helping me to be optimistic while also answering my questions about worst-case scenarios in a straightforward, realistic way. It was exactly what I needed in a situation like this. Finally, the rest of the team was also wonderful when it came to follow-up care instructions and next steps. The stars are primarily for Doctor Suah, with an honorable mention for Dr. Ehrlich. The practice management itself is closer to 1-star, unfortunately. I first saw Dr. Ehrlich. I wish she took insurance for allergy testing, and she might be a tad too enthusiastic about going ahead and doing it, but she was very pleasant, and have zero doubts about her deep knowledge. I've seen Dr. Suah and he's really great. He's thorough, he listens, and he gives you multiple alternatives. The problem with this practice is scheduling. When you call, it's a dense phone tree that encourages you to book online. I've booked an available time slot online only to be called a while later by the office and be told that the time slot isn't, in fact, available and how about this completely different time slot instead. It makes no sense to use an online system for scheduling if it doesn't accurately show you what's available. Second, the phone tree also encourages you to book by text. Except nobody responds to your booking text, just like it's hard to get anyone to pick up the phone. It's almost like they don't want to schedule patients. So sad that what could otherwise be a great practice has terrible day-to-day management that is likely pushing patients to other doctors. read more

Terrible work ethics. As I am about to arrive to his office in a cab, Dr Suah decides to cancel his one Friday afternoon appointment (mine) and take off early for the weekend -- even though I told his staff this was an emergency. What a great life! I would strongly question the judgment of someone whose commitment to patient care and work ethics is so poor. no wonder most of his appointments were open. The medical staff were knowledgeable and helpful, and I was able to get a same-day appointment My one complaint is with their online appointment system which does not work to schedule an appointment, even though it claims it does. It will give you an appointment with the physician of your choice at the time and day you choose, but the office staff will then call you by phone to say it's only a suggestion and you must setup a different appointment over the phone. read more

The short version: doctors are fine, front desk staff has major attitude and admin/billing is disorganized. The long version: I saw both Dr. Ehrlich and Dr. Suah. Dr. Ehrlich seemed very profit-driven. She quickly dispensed with general instructions for the more serious problem I might have been having and settled on the (purely cosmetic) treatment of my acne scars. She quickly enumerated the costs of Fraxel laser ("you'd need 4-5 session, at $1,300/session, and you have to take this pill before each procedure to avoid cold sores. Shall I sign you up?") and had started writing the prescription for the pill before I stopped her and said that I'd have to think about it. Maybe the types of clients she usually gets think nothing before signing on the dotted line for a $5K+ investment, but I'd say most people would like the chance to give it a second thought. Oh, and no mention of potential side effects or the strange skin texture that Fraxel tends to leave behind. Just smiles and an expensive procedure. I wouldn't see her again, and got a second opinion later that week, which proved to be much more medically informed and patient. Dr Suah, by contrast, was wonderful - patient, professional, knowledgeable and very kind. He is the ONLY reason this gets 2 stars and not 1. I would gladly see him again, however, I won't be returning to this location. Which brings me to...the admin staff. After several visits, I've had the chance to observe the front desk team in various situations. To put it bluntly, they're distracted, unprofessional and act supremely bored or inconvenienced, especially when asked to remedy a mistake. I've been quoted one price for the visit when arriving only to be almost charged for a different one after the visit (when I pointed that out, I was met with "oh, lord, I don't know where my head is today!" and no trace of an apology); I was sent several bills to an incorrect address (luckily, the last one reached us before our being tossed to a collections company), and when I called to ask why they had entered my address incorrectly, I was told I'd written it incorrectly on the forms (nice try!); I then got a call a few weeks later saying I had an unpaid balance (when I protested and said I had paid in full at the visit, I was told they'd check with the billing department and was later called to be told I didn't in fact owe anything else). I've seen them hand an elderly woman the wrong printed document (she said "no, this is an article - I need the list of instructions Dr. Suah wanted me to have"), only to have it yanked out of her hand and given the correct one with no apology. I don't know who owns this practice, but until they get more professional front desk and billing department staff, they will continue to lose customers. read more

This was a poor experience. I went to have some moles checked and Dr. Suah took tissue for a biopsy. The sample was lost in the post and never got processed. After I had not heard from the practice about the results, I had to call three times, got three different answers until three weeks later I finally received a call from Dr. Suah explaining that the samples of that day all got lost in the post. Obvious, that I would not go back there. read more
