They tried to do the procedure in the dentist's office, but they weren't able to get me numb enough, and referred me to Capital Endodontics. I was nervous going in - the experience in the dentist's office the week before had me convinced this was going to be a painful procedure. Dr. Landwehr immediately put me at ease. His chair-side manner was amazing, and the first thing he explained was why I experienced pain when the dentist tried to do the procedure, and how they would numb me so that wouldn't be repeated. He then went on to explain what was going on with my tooth, why I needed the root canal, how they would do the procedure, and why it was the right solution. The procedure itself was comfortable and quick. Dr. Landwehr was thorough in explaining what was going on the entire time - what I would smell, hear, and feel - which I greatly appreciated. I think one of the most notable things about the whole experience is the absence of any post-procedure discomfort or pain. My jaw is slightly sore from my mouth being open for so long, but the tooth and surrounding area feel fine - no sensitivity, no tenderness. I had my procedure around 2:45pm and by about 6:30pm all of the numbness was gone and I was able to eat a (relatively soft) dinner without any pain or discomfort in the tooth. They have appointments as early as 7:30am, so I can go before work. My least favorite part about the dentist is the x-rays - they are painful for me and seriously trigger my gag reflex. But the hygienists work with me once they understand my issues. They will put salt on the x-ray holder or on my tongue, which somehow suppresses the gag reflex (maybe it's just the placebo effect, but it makes a huge difference!). It's hard to explain how much of an impact this is - I still dread the yearly x-rays, but I know they try to make it as quick and painless as possible. That alone sets them apart from other dentists I have seen.

And then he started fixing them and I was like, wow, so that's how my mouth could have, (and should have been)! I've always feared and dreaded the front teeth upper gum and pallet novacaine shot, because it's a lot worse than a "pinch." But not with Dr. Jon. His technique gave me more of a slow pressure, not a painful pinch, which amazed me. And somehow he dialed in the exact amount- I had no pain at all, yet when I was done, my upper lip and nose didn't feel like I'd been punched, there was just a slight tingle that went away very shortly. The office staff is also great- appointments were handled with skill, multiple options, and accuracy. I am always greeted with warmth and friendliness, especially by Kayla. I'm just guessing here, but there might be a rule that only nice, pretty women are allowed to work there, I'm joking yet it seems to fit the observable facts. I am very glad I switched, my only hesitation in writing this review is that he'll get even more busy and it will be tougher to find an opening in the future... Still, my highest recommendation.

Each room is set up like a pretty standard dental office, very clean. On my first visit, they told me they like to do a full set of x-rays just to get an idea of what my teeth are like overall, but my insurance didn't cover for a full set. So they told me they will still do the full x-ray set, but just write it as whatever my insurance will cover, and they will cover the remaining cost. How great is that?!? The staff is wonderful and courteous, also very punctual. I'm never waiting in the waiting room for more than 5 minutes. The cleanings are done nice and quickly, I'm in and out in less than an hour. Dr. Vaandehaar is great! He always makes suggestions for me to consider, but is never pushy about getting anything done that isn't absolutely necessary. For example, when I had a cavity, he obviously strongly recommended that I take care of it asap. But when it came to some preventative things, he told me what was going on, and what some options are and said it's something to think about. The only complaint that I have is, they do send A LOT of appointment reminders via email and text, multiple times leading up to your appointment. Yes, you can totally opt out of it, so I guess this is really on me. Also, TDC is the only place that staff actually came in and sang happy birthday to me during my cleaning. It was so sweet!
