Simple bistro, reasonable price, great service. This is my first time in the UK (I'm from Brazil) and I went there to celebrate my birthday (dinner). The menu is small but every dish I saw in mine or other tables looked perfect. My courses came perfect and the staff even put a birthday candle and wrote happy birthday in my dessert plate, which was a lovely surprise. Fernando explained every dish and even gave me some tips to discover London. I am absolutely sure I'll come back there next time I'm in London (I might even get back again before this trip is over). read more

I guess I was expecting a lot more. Our server's language was limited to yes please, and despite his attempt to seem polite, it was clear that he wasn't really interested in what we wanted, but rather to get things over with. Chips were alright, green beans were fairly well cooked as well. As for the main entrees, the fish - which came whole, was fresh but lacked any particular "wow this is so great, I'd love to come back" Most of the fair here seemed to be on the heavier side, and represented British cuisine. But to me, British cuisine represents the culture too - so if I really wanted to go out for British food, wouldn't I go to a pub? Especially with the service anyhow. Oh, and the dessert (we got a strawberry tart) -- the strawberries a bit too mushy, the glaze overpowering, and the tart entirely soggy as if someone had left the custard sitting on the tart outside all day. read more

Roasted marrow bones, parmesan crust, garlic butter, parsley and lemon £7.00 Classic Caesar salad with crispy smoked bacon and poached egg £7.00 Foxtrot cheese burger with smoked bacon, chunky chips and tomato relish £14.00 Moules and frites £13.50 Cherry and apple crumble with vanilla custard 6.00 It was my first time trying roasted marrow and it was as I expected it to be. Rich, rich and rich! I really liked this dish but I think it is better for sharing than for one person to consume. The caesar salad was good and you cant really go wrong with poached egg on anything. The cheeseburger was thick and juicy and made how a burger should be made. Moules and frites were a delight as well. Fries here were thick cut and crispy. Went here for Vince T's birthday. It was a hell of a bus ride/walk trying to get over here, but we made it in the end. This is a Gordon Ramsey joint. I wasn't sure what to make of that since I'm not familiar with him really, but Holly and Vince are dedicated fans. I was a little disappointed that they don't really have any beer selection. They sell some Italian stuff called Peroni (bullshit according to Vince) and a couple other BOTTLED beers. So, we got some wines instead. Vince selected a red from Quebec that he was familiar with. Later, we had a white. For a starter I had toast with a quail egg and chicken liver. It was very, very tasty. For a main course I had Shepherd's Pie. It was different from what I expected. I was thinking there would be some gravy in the pie, but it was dry. Very good as well, but I am not an expert. We finished off with some champagne and some desserts. The service was excellent, very friendly. Price was reasonable (although Vince picked up the tab). Would definitely eat here again. I do think that they should have at least a minimal beer on tap selection. Either that or just don't sell beer completely. read more

More intimate than I imagined it would be, with a nice walk from the tube through a charming Chelsea/S Ken residential neighborhood before getting there. It was basically good. I got the special of the day - roast with yorkshire pudding, chips, and veggies. The buttered carrots were really nice. The yorkshire pudding was nice - but it was a bit more flakey than I wanted (more substance, please). My friend's salmon dish was delicate...almost too delicate. As in tiny portion with hardly any garnish, taking up 10% of the plate it was served on. It tasted good, though. The treacle pudding with clotted cream was too rich for me to eat more than 1/3 of the dessert over a 20-min time period. The two of us couldn't get through half. read more

With visitors from out of town we thought the perfect Sunday Brunch would be a Ramsey restaurant. Something that isn't in every city. We planned a lunch followed by a day of sight seeing and walking about the city so I made reservations for 12:30PM thinking we would be out by 2PM at the latest. We arrived early and were clearly at the start of the day's guests. We made a drink order immediately (visitors and a Sunday, we want a drink!) but it took them what seemed to be an astronomical amount of time to serve the drink on 'special' - a raspberry Bellini. We were anxious waiting but the Bellini's were delicious (worth the wait, we though). Next it took awhile for the waiter to come and take our orders (we get it, it's Sunday Brunch) and most of us ordered the two-course lunch. Some of us got starters instead of dessert so we waited for the starters (we get it, people are starting to come in now, it's getting busy) . Starters come, it was an OK soup and aubergine salad was very tasty. It didn't take long for four people to finish two starters so then we found ourselves waiting again. Might as well order a bottle of wine. After about 15 min plus wait for mains after our starters were cleared we did enjoy a beautiful Sunday roast. Our guests opted for the more traditional roast with Yorkshire pudding (which was actually way too heavy!) My beef was lovely. The dish had a parsnip puree that was just fantastic. After food was cleared we were given dessert menus.... (why we asked ourselves since we had already ordered dessert through the two-course lunch menu).... but we still had to sit there awhile looking at the menus. The waiter (the same waiter mind you that TOOK OUR ORDER) then came to our table to take dessert orders. Confused, we pointed out that we had already ordered dessert. He laughed and said, "of course!" and disappeared. Twenty minutes later we were still waiting for our desserts. By this time we were a little sick of trying to reason why things are running so slowly and just got annoyed. It took awhile for them to give us the bill and then to pay. All in all we were walking out a little after 2:30PM. Two hours for Sunday roast?! Maybe in Ramsey's world. If service at a restaurant is disjointed, obviously slow and confused, even if the food was delicious and famous I wouldn't go back again. Maybe that's why they called it Foxtrot Oscar? read more

My partner and I went to Foxtrot Oscar on a date and to celebrate his birthday. Granted, it was with a daily deal voucher, I wasn't expecting great service as a result. Basically, it lived up to my expectations, and wasn't great service. We were confined to choosing the most expensive item on the menu, a braised pork belly with rice and asian inspired salad and a cheesecake for dessert. What I didn't understand is why you would confine diners to the most expensive thing on the menu and NOT let them choose a cheaper item that would have then been perhaps more profitable for the business anyway. We were also confined to a particular wine choice, which I think is fine, but we then waited about 15 minutes for wine to be served and we weren't asked if we wanted a top up. Anyway, back to the food, since the service was a bit disastrous. The pork belly was nice, braised asian style in a dark soy sauce jus. It was tasty, but I knew I couldn't count on an English fine dining establishment at getting the entire flavor profile of Chinese braised pork belly correct. Additionally, the cheesecake was very creamy, and tasty, but as a self professed amateur baker, I've made better cheesecake myself. All in all, a good romantic atmosphere that served the purpose of the occasion well, but food and service thoroughly disappointed. Tube takers beware, this place is a good 15 minute walk from the Sloane Square tube. Oh well. Would I go back, probably not. I'm sure there are better Gordon Ramsay restaurants out there. I went here for lunch with 2 friends during my 2008 summer travels so it's been a little while and I may not be able to remember everything. I do remember that all three of us ordered different pies and they were all quite tasty. The service was adequate, and the wine I had was nice. I am sure we had dessert, but I guess it wasn't mind-blowing because I can't for the life of me remember what it was. We went for dinner to Foxtrot Oscar, the more casual Gordon Ramsey restaurant on Royal Hospital Road (the other is his flagship 3 michelin star gaff which would have been nice but is a bit out of our price range!). Whilst we made our menu choices, we enjoyed some Chapel Down Brut Rose which was a nice start to the evening and had a lovely spring freshness. We kicked off our meal with Scottish Smoked Salmon and a refreshing Kentish beetroot salad. Next we tucked into a flavourful Dingley Dell pork chop, and perfectly cooked pan-fried sea bream fillets which went well with the salty samphire. We opted for desserts of Sticky Toffee Pudding and cheesecake. The sticky toffee was delicious with none of the burnt aftertaste that it can sometimes have but it continued the theme of small portions. I thought the cheesecake would be the baked New York style but it turned out to be more like a ginger & vanilla mousse which was complemented by the slight tartness of the forest berries. read more

Before Foxtrot Oscar was picked up by Gordon Ramsey it was a tip. The kind of place i hesitate going to, end up visiting, and then totally regret. After it was spitzed up the place was wicked and well worth a visit, to which I did on multiple occassions, but that was then and this is now. I recently revisited the place and I must say I was completely dissapointed. Its the same decor but, I can only presume, with new management. The food was so so and the prices were just as high if not more so. I, once again, wouldn't recommend Señor Oscar's for lunch, dinner or anything else. There are better places nearby. read more

My wife and I went to Foxtrot Oscar on our recent trip to London. I'll make this review short and sweet. Go to Foxtrot Oscar, you will not be disappointed. We had the full experience (starter, wine, entree, dessert, coffee) and couldn't be happier. We split a Courgette flower starter and it was life changing! The flower was stuffed with goat cheese then deep fried. It was also sitting on some olive tapenade that complemented it very well. My wife had the chicken for dinner and I had the burger, and both were prepared excellently. The staff was excellent as well, our waitress answered all my questions and didn't scoff when I asked dumb questions (example: "What is a courgette?") This is a gem in London! Like most places in London, this is a pleasant place where you can take your parents to dinner and everyone will be happy, but no one will be excited. For a chef known for his fiery, food-passionate persona, would have expected some more spark, but was sorely let down. Place was a bunch of ups & downs. Menu had good variety, but wine list was identical to the York & Albany. Burger & chips well done, but pesto pasta was like M&S prepared dinner. Tomato salad: exciting with fresh mozz and various multi-colored tomatoes; sticky toffee: dull as. Service was pleasant although a little awkward, ambiance was pleasant although a little on the side of boring. Basically giving 3 stars instead of 2, out of fear that Gordon will read this review and take a meat cleaver to his head chef. I can't have that much blood on my hands. read more

We recently went to this little bistro a few blocks from our place...little did i know it was owned by Gordon Ramsey. The food was delicious and very appealing to the eye. We had braised pork cheeks with celeriac and wild garlic gremolata, sauteed courgetts and parmesean, a pea, broad bean and goat cheese salad with hazelnuts and mint, and a salt cod brandade with grilled chorizo and red pepper relish. I asked a few people about Foxtrot Oscar before I went there and most people had never heard of it. When I asked who it might be owned by most people just looked at me as though I was daft, but several people then guessed that it is one of the chain of restaurants owned by Gordon Ramsay. The venue is billed as the ultimate bistro: the style is relaxed and the decor is clean and modern. I had crab cakes with mayonnaise for starters, my friends had rillettes of smoked salmon and horseradish; green pea soup with ham knuckle. For mains we went for Herefordshire rib-eye steak with snail butter; Cassoulet of Goosnarch duck and added chips, mash, buttered spring greens (which were really tasty and buttery) and spinach with nutmeg. All of this was very nice, and really tasty. Two of us decided to share two puddings, and went for a vanilla cheesecake and a lemon meringue pie. Unfortunately although good, we both felt that the puddings weren't up to the high standard set by the mains. The food was pretty good value for the quality of the food. Starters were £4-9; mains £8-15, sides £3-4 and deserts £4-8. We washed it down with a £30 bottle of Rioja Reserva which was good. We went for dinner as a birthday treat, and generally it was a good night out. The only let down was the slightly disappointing deserts: still I would recommend giving it a go. read more

I've been here twice, once for the Sunday Roast on a business trip to London and then again for a nice dinner with my wife on vacation. Sunday roast - highly reccomend - I had the pot roast with yorkshire pudding, potatoes and veggies. Also, dont pass up any of the special sunday roast cocktails they offer - i had a champagne cocktail w/ vodka, which complemented the meal quite well. Dinner - all is good. It was difficult to decide what we wanted to order as it is all good. Feel free to submit yourself to the chef and eat whatever they prepare, even if its outside of your comfort zone. read more

The service was just shy of abismal (long wait for waiter, didn't offer any cocktails or drinks when he took the order). The starters were good including the caesar salad and bone marrow. The steak was not good. We should have tried the burger, I suppose, since that was what everyone around us was eating. Being fans of Steak Las Vegas and Restaurant Gordon Ramsey down the street, it was disappointing. my husband says that Foxtrot Oscar is slang/ code for telling someone to F-Off.....which would be completely insulting as a patron at a restaurant, but as this restaurant is part of the Gordon Ramsey chain, i think it's funny! we went here with friends after the Chelsea Flower Show...picked the place because it was the most reasonably priced restaurant in the area that we could get a table at. it's a small place with a narrow circular ladder to get to the down stairs tables. the food is really just traditional English, done in a way that is a step up from pub fare. i'm not a sweets person, but i was most impressed by the dessert menu and all the ice cream and sorbet flavors to choose from! comfortable setting, good food, friendly service and great time with my American friends - i liked it! read more

My husband and I (Americans) wanted to go to an English "celebrity chef" restaurant, so we chose this one because it was the closest to our hotel. The place did not disappoint. (Although I was disappointed that my menu choice wasn't available and we weren't told about that prior to being given menus to peruse), but we ended up enjoying the food immensely. My husband had the salmon, and I had gnocchi - delicious! The service was not as friendly as we like, but that seems pretty common in Europe. I love Gordon Ramsay! We would have liked to try the French restaurant of Ramsays' but we didn't bring the proper attire! boo hoo... so we "settled" for the bistro... it was good! I had dessert here and my brother had the flat steak and chips, he was in heaven though it wasn't his favorite. Unexpected Sunday lunch, Mr Ramsey at affordable prices. Smallish restaurant, pleasant atmosphere - I was wearing shorts and only felt slightly out of place. The new lunch time menu at £10 for a main course is great value, the burger looked amazing. I had the lobster and salmon pie which was fresh piping hot and delicious. Philippa had Braised beef and wine pie which was also very good, assorted veg and a glass of red wine. All in £30 ahead - an expensive treat for an impromptu lunch,but the food was great. First, the taxi driver tried to drop us off at the Gordon Ramsey restaurant up the road. When we finally got to the restaurant, the manager/host seated us and offered to take our cocktail order. I had a Bellini that was fantastic -- but that was it. The waitress didn't know ANYTHING about the menu, hence I ended up getting a steak that was tough and bland. It took forever between courses and forever to even get the bill. My friend ordered the Duck that was dry and flavorless. We walked forever to get a taxi. This restaurant is off the beaten path in a strange location -- I won't be back. read more

We went for Valentines day 2009, unfortunately we booked late and got a table after 10pm. we arrived at 10 and had to wait half an hour because everyone was waiting around after their meal. when we sat down all of our first choices off the menu had finished and we had to eat up what was left. it all tasted like it had come straight from the freezer. the staff were arguing in the background and there was no atmosphere whatsoever. Visiting from Toronto and wanted to experience a Gordon Ramsay restaurant. Found Foxtrot Oscar through Yelp and on the web. Got a reservation online immediately and headed over on a rainy night. Restaurant was small and cozy. Busy for a Sunday. Casual atmosphere which was nice. Service was fantastic. Maitre D' and waitress were exceptional. Gave great advise on beer and desserts. Had the ceasar salad to start, which came with a poached egg and real anchovies, which was a nice change from the standard everyday caesar at most places. Had the Foxtrot burger and the lamb shoulder with Yorkshire pudding and veggies. Both were very good and recommended. Had fries but I understand that the restaurant has the world's third best poutine in the world. Sticky toffee pudding was a nice finish to the meal. The decaf coffee was smooth and beautiful when combined with real English cream. Only negative to our experience was the cab (limo?) the restaurant called for us. Private car, guy didn't really know how to drive, and tried to charge me double the cost it was to get there. Warning...just hail a cab! They come around often. Overall great experience. We travel extensively and can afford and appreciate a ggod culinary experience. We try hard to frequent the best restaurants we can to have the best experience. I went here with a friend and my husband. If they were to read this review, they would gawk at me giving the restaurant ONLY 3 stars. They couldn't stop talking about this restaurant, but my take on it was just ok. Fine it was better than OK, it was GOOD. First of all, this may be my fault, but when you come here, know what you're ordering. I ordered the Caesar Salad with Bacon and Egg that was pretty yummy, but it had 4 very visible anchovy on it. I hate anchovy!!! My husband said that it was mild, but that's all I could taste on the salad. That was my fault for not knowing there was anchovy on the Caesar, but if they list bacon and egg on the menu why not throw in "and anchovy" so I would know. For dinner, I had the duck leg. This was a great entree. I would recommend this to anyone who likes duck. The portion was generous and it was served with sour red cabbage. So I think this entree was also good, but it didn't blow me away. What can I say, I'm really spoiled in San Francisco. The service was amenable and the ambience was pleasant. I passed on dessert but tried the bread pudding and the knickerbocker which is a tall container of whipped cream, berries and ice cream. This is a Gordon Ramsay restaurant and even though I probably wouldn't go here again because I've felt like I've experienced what it has to offer, I would definitely try some other restaurants of his because it's obvious that he has set a high bar for quality. read more

I must say it was an interesting experience for me. I was somehow confused because I had thought this is was the Gordon Ramsay Restaurant (which is up the road 68 - 69 Royal Hospital Road)... I had assumed it was either a typo or the restaurant had moved. The external appearance looked fairly sorry. I was expecting something looking a bit more glamorous - given it is a GR. The decor was reasonable and cosy. I had the 3 course summer menu - grilled cornish mackerel, potato salad and creme fraiche... i must say this was fairly disappointing as the potato salad was not that well cooked and there was a lot of fish bones in the mackerel. My 2nd course was Goosnargh duck leg with English spinach and beetroot chutney - this was superbly done - it just melt in your mouth!! I had the warm chocolate and pecan brownie, blood orange sorbet - again the brownie just melts in your mouth without any trace. This was followed by an outstanding cup of latte... it's not common to get such good coffee in london... so needless to say I left rather satisfied. read more

Wait staff was very polite, and the truffle fries were decent. That gets 2 stars. The food? Awful. My husband and I come here for lunch last month while on vacation, after an amazing dinner at Maze. We each ordered the world's priciest cheeseburger, because we were starving, and truffel fries. We were one of two tables in the restaurant. Our burgers took over 30 minutes and, once they arrived, I could see why. They were charcoal. Burned outside, totally flavorless, no juice or pinkness at all. I had to pair every bite with a sip of water because it was so dry. I complained to the waiter, who told me that they had to make them like that or people complained. I told him I've never had a burger so overdone. He said that's just the way it is -- if there's any pinkness to the beef people complain. Basically, I paid a lot of money for a lunch of french fries. read more

I've never dined in a London restaurant where the service was so genuinely friendly. No hint of pretense, just professional, courteous, welcoming, and helpful. How many legs has an Onglet? Visited Foxtrot Oscar on Monday Night for dinner. Cost £126 for two including wine £21, Bellini £9, Gin and Tonic £7, service charge £14. Water £4. Food is £71! Starter. I had Smoked Salmon. Came as slices on a plate with a small blob of Creme Frainche. My daughter had Caesar Salad. 7/10. Main Course. Onglet. Yes I wondered what it was too. Steak why not call it that on the menu and put Onglet in brackets? There was also the word poutine on the menu still to look it up. The steak was nice enough with some chunky chips. My daughter had belly pork. 7.5/10 Dessert I had crumble and this was good with cream. 8/10. If you are picky. Ice cubes in gin and tonic too big or glass to small. Restaurant toilets downstairs and almost in kitchen. Waitress nice girl but kept asking if food was OK. Could do with more choice on menu. Overpriced steak as good at Aberdeen Steak House sorry. Creme fraiche did not go with salmon. However we enjoyed the experience. Coffee not good perhaps too strong. To sum up. Not bad but not exciting. Staff friendly. Would go again. read more
