It's the first time I had a painting shipped in a tube from Europe and I was a bit concerned by this process. This review is long overdue. I want to thank Erick for his patience. This frame process began months ago. We had an original piece from Cuban artist Niels Moleiro and wanted only the best frame shop available in the city to handle this project for us. After exhaustive research on the internet and reading countless of reviews on Yelp, we made the decision to work with Frames and Stretchers and it was the best decision. We flew our piece from Miami to New York City. The piece is a gift to our daughter who was accepted into the masters program at NYU. We took the piece to Erick and he gave us a few options for stretching and framing. I found this place through yelp and decided to give them a try since it was in my neighborhood. The store may be a little tricky to find but it's on the 3rd floor and all the way down the hall. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable helping me pick out the perfect combination of framing and matting for my piece. I was quite pleased with the results and they delivered ahead of schedule. These people are the real deal. I'm a professional photographer and I needed to find a framing shop ASAP for a short notice gallery exhibition I was offered in Chelsea. Soooo glad I found the amazing peeps at Frames and Stretchers. I went to the Lower East Side to what actually looks like a church. An enchanting building in the corner of Suffolk and Rivington. Erick greeted me with his big smile and very unique Spanish accent, which I found very charming and entertaining - plus he's a true artist himself - painting and sculpture I believe as well- so he has a great eye and a real respect for artists and their art. Very humorous, but very knowledgeable about a wide variety of framing solutions and at different price points. He recommended to me a very minimalistic design that matched perfectly with my artwork. He also uses high quality materials to preserve the pieces. Museum matte, Italian moldings, and museum glass. These people are amazing. I bought a coffee burlap in Colombia a few years ago and wanted to somehow frame/mount it. I have gone to multiple places in NYC and no one could tell me exactly how they would do it - so I never left it with those places because I was unsure of what the final product would look like. I can't recommend this place enough. It's a small shop in a historic building which just adds to the fun of getting there. Once inside, I was warmly greeted and given solid advice on the best way to frame the artwork I had just purchased. (Thankfully, we had the same idea of the best look for it! Makes decisions easier). At no point did I feel I was being upsold, I was being given all of the options as well as prices for each option. Frankly, all of the prices are extremely fair! I just picked up my piece, and it looks far better than I anticipated. The framing was extremely minimal (what I wanted) and complemented the work well. I was in a bind, needing a print framed for a presentation in New York City in two days time. Problem was, I live in San Diego. I called Frames And Stretchers and was able to order the job, FedEx the print overnight, and upon arriving in NYC, stopped by on my way to the presentation to pick up the beautifully framed print. Quick, efficient, and saved me having to frame and transport glass on an airplane. I Discovered this place because I walk by on my way to work each morning. It is not exactly easy to find because it is on the third floor of a large multi-use building on Suffolk. Do not be disuaded by the entrance, just walk in an use the stairs to go to the thrid floor. Go past all the kids and capoeria people :) and it is at the end of the hall. I had a very large poster (over 5 feet tall) that needed to be framed. They were very patient with my lack of knowledge and helpful in selecting the correct frame. These guys are extraordinary. They are artists themselves and will work with you to figure out how to get your show framed within your budget. I was framing large format ink drawings, 1, 4 x 8' and 3, 4 x 5', and even though their prices were great I couldn't afford the slim profile, blond wood frames with the strainers which were essential to keep the frames from twisting out of shape at that size. They suggested that I could avoid buying the strainers by getting a thicker frame. They worked with me by letting me get the frames only. I will run around town and get cheaper, non-UV plexi (Bad. I know.) and foam core backing myself and put the work in the frames myself as well. But here's the thing, as I outlined my plan with them they gave me tips and warnings so I would be able to do it properly. They talked patiently with me at least five times when I came to them with ideas that wouldn't work because I didn't understand things like the weight of the plexi or that plexi will bow at a certain size. They want me to be happy with the end result and they want to be able to be proud of it too. They really are terrific. read more

In a gorgeous community building named after the great Puerto Rican writer and activist Clemente Soto Velez, it is possible to find a beautiful framing and stretching shop. They use museum quality matte a kind of glass that museum's use, all will ensure the longevity and best final productg. I have had a very large painting for years, but in this recent move, it did not fit into any access points to the apartment (elevator, stairs, etc.) Erick and his team personally came to the building, took the painting off of the frame, then created a new frame in their shop and came back in a separate appointment to restretch and hang the painting. This level of personalized on-location service was exactly what I needed. They were quick to respond, quick to act, did exactly what was promised, were careful with the rest of the apartment (floors, furniture, etc.) and my painting looks even better than before.
