She had been out of town, but re-engaged and said she would review my drawings and get me an engineering statement. Then crickets again. I followed up again a week later and again a week after that. She ultimately ghosted me. Communication and setting expectations is important. My project was delayed 6 weeks because Lauren was unable to do either. I've had architects tell me they are 6 months out from being able to start a project and I've decided to patiently wait. Other times, I might opt to move on if something is more urgent. Engaging with clients, making promises, then not following through is unprofessional and discourteous. Boo.

BSM Engineering - talk about a professional organization. From the moment we started interacting through email correspondence to multiple telephone calls, to a final verdict on what to do next, Bill was the highest degree of professionalism. Throughout the whole thing, Bill guided me in the process and helped me to understand the complexity of the issues. When the project date arrived, they showed up on time, cleaned well after the demolition/addition of interior floors to allow drainage and a sump-pump. My original review (4 star due to not adjusting the cost when less product was used) they owned the mistake and recognized their communication gaps. I had concerns over a basement wall and the work done by previous owners of my home. I called MCE…read moreand they agreed to send over an engineer. They were upfront about the cost of an assessment. Unfortunately, when the engineer arrived he concluded that the walls needed to be opened up completely for him to provide the assessment and that I should call them to come back again once I opened up all the walls. So I have basically paid hundreds of dollars for 20 minutes of their time and them to say "We don't know." It would have been nice to have known that completely open walls were necessary to do the eval. The only other feedback is that the engineer was polite, professional, and on time. My two stars are for the waste of time and money which i don't have a lot of. I have since worked with a couple other companies that were much better with communications and gave me great evaluations.

I do not recommend using this company for several reasons…read more First, they were very slow and not proactive in moving the project forward. I frequently had to follow up to get updates or any progress. Second, Randy initially gave my wife a quote to perform a private road compaction test, and we began moving forward with him based on that price. After two weeks with no progress, I called to check on the status. During that call, Randy doubled the original quote. He explained that the project would require significantly more work than he initially anticipated, including multiple soil compaction tests and a more detailed report. When I asked what the soil compaction testing would involve, he told me they would be using a machine that drives a rod into the ground to measure the force required in several locations. He also stated that the report would need to be much more detailed than originally expected. Because of the sudden increase in price, I became suspicious and asked to be onsite when his technician arrived. When the technician showed up, he simply took photos and dug a small section on the side of the road. There was no soil compaction testing equipment used as described. Three weeks later, I finally received the report, which was only one page long and essentially stated that the road was compacted and capable of supporting a fire truck. After receiving the invoice, I gave Randy an opportunity to adjust the price, since the additional work he described clearly did not occur. Ultimately, I paid the full amount, but based on my experience, I would strongly recommend choosing another company.
