There's a huge gazebo in the center to provide shade along with trees scattered. I've never been in their restrooms so no idea if they're clean or not. Years ago we came here for a school field trip where the kids got to play in the water area, which is perfect for a hot summer day. There's also swings and play equipment. There's also grills and picnic tables for people to enjoy a lunch outdoors. They have a decent size parking lot and plenty of street parking as well.

There are endless amounts of trails that you can look towards -- some roll around in a circle, and some lead all the way to Sanborn County Park. While many people say these trails go nowhere, they do lead to the opening of trails that lead into the Santa Cruz Mountains. The only improvement that I would give to this park is the narrowness of some of the trails that we had to encounter -- and while there were spectacular views of the South Bay, what was lackluster and disappointing was the fact that there were barely any labels that were telling us where we were going. The bridges were a very good view of how close or how far we were from the very beginning of the entrance of the park, however, so that was a very good sign. If you're looking for a park that challenges you as much as going to Almaden Quicksilver Park, but without driving so far, then the Saratoga Quarry Park is just for you. I'll definitely be back to challenge myself to climb these hiking paths more.

I drove 45 minutes to Hakone Gardens recently at the end of March and found out that most of the cherry blossoms were gone. I was like whaaaa....I usually go during the end of March and they would be in full bloom. Apparently, they bloomed earlier this year. I was looking forward to seeing the wonderful pink color all around. Anyways, Hakone is still a treat to walk around and is very nice when the flowers are blooming. I love sitting near the beginning of the trail and looking at the ponds, bridge, koi fish and all the trees. It transports me to Japan without the airfare and passport. Parking can be difficult on busy days and will be waiting for awhile for someone to leave. Gift shop is cute and there are many cute finds in there. Admission is now $12 but parking is still free.

Trail was steep and mostly in shade. Nice valley view along the way to look at and you can see the bay afar. Very quiet and unpopular trail. At many points, you'd feel there's only you and your companion in the whole mountain. There's a warning sign of mountain lion but we didn't see any, not that I wanted to. :) Recommend to use hiking stick. It'd take about 4 hours to complete the whole trail. If you walk slower it'd be longer.

This was my 8th and last Peak in 2024 which I hiked solo in late Dec…read more I was ill prepared for the rain because I did not believe it would happen. I did not bring an umbrella, and I wore a fleece instead of a windbreaker. It was drizzling on and off, I had to take shelter under trees to wait out the heavier rain sections. The good part of today was that I practically had the whole mountain to myself, it's really being alone; I crossed paths with 7 other solo hikers. The bad part was that I am afraid of getting lost by myself. Here are my observations on this hike. Saw some animals up close: deer, rabbit, and a big black loud bird. Climbed over a down tree on the trail. Noticed lots of ferns and moss, so it must be shady and wet here year round. Noticed the dirt near the top is black while the dirt near the bottom is red. Started the trailhead from the Old Quarry at 10:30am, 12 miles round trip. 2.5 hrs up; 1.5 hrs down

Review #160 - 2017…read more This was our first time coming to the Santa Clara Christmas tree lighting ceremony. We had a really hard time finding park because the parking lot was reserved for staff members only. We eventually found street parking a few blocks away. By the time we got to the park, it was already nearing the tail end of the fireworks, but we still got to enjoy a few minutes of it. The place is actually quite crowded and the booths by the entrance were pretty poorly set up in my personal opinion. They weren't spaced out enough for people to actually make their way through, especially when there are people who want to stand at the booths and browse. It is definitely not wheelchair or stroller friendly. Pushing my daughter's stroller around was tough and I saw a lady with a wheelchair was practically struggling to get from one place to the next. The line to see Santa was too long so we didn't get to take a picture with Santa. The live music was enjoyable and ice skating rink was a nice addition. Lots of first responders were present as well...

The more difficult one leads to the higher ground for a good view of the Bay Area. On the trails, people can see various wild animals. For example: deers, turkeys, and squirrels.
