Okay...Alittle backstory. Bare with me. I just built my new rig I got from Newegg a few months ago (Yup! Outside of return policy). Alittle more backstory. I am a former Geek Squad agent and hardware and software is nothing new to me. This is my 4th computer build. First time with an Intel i5 chip though. Well everything went smoothly until I tried to boot it up...Dead...Dead as a doornail. So after taking it apart and together again for days...finding zilch except the motherboard having a red led stating that their was a CPU issue...I swallowed my pride and I gave up and searched around. Found these guys and I Yelped them (Yelp plug!). They had more positives rather than negatives. Sent a message about my plight...within the hour I got a response from Tony (Manager). Suuuper understanding and thoughtful...didn't feel pressured at all. That was enough for me to swing on by during my lunch and got a quote for a diagnostic. Very reasonable compared to alot of other places. I brought my dead rig in the next day and met Ryan (who was nice enough to come out and open the door for me and my rig). He was straight forward confident and capable. He heard my plight and said he would keep me posted. Back at work...I get a message on my phone then an email telling me the bad news that their initial diagnostic meant that the CPU or the mobo might be bad. I felt horrible cause I felt like I was exactly where I left off with something I felt I already knew. He kept me posted email after email and gave me tips and options...PS. THAT IS HOW YOU DO IT! (Take that from someone who has done customer service for 20+ yrs.). Well finally I was about to give up and emailed them to stop...Ryan emails me litterly right afterwords that their coworker Tim wanted to give it another shot and was really looking in depth into the motherboard...needless to say...next email. EUREKA!!!...Tim found out that one of the pins on the motherboard was bent. He unbent it and it worked! I was sooooooo happy and re-leaved that they kept at it. Especially Tim. So after work I picked up a nice 6-pack gift for them and picked up my baby. Tim came around the counter and booted it up for me. He gave me alot of tips and suggestions and charged me only the diagnostic price that was agreed upon. I rarely give rave reviews cause I find most places sub par customer service or because of a poor product most of the time. Thank you Tony for being so inviting and genuine. I can't say enough how amazing this company is! Our growing small business had serious issues and not a lot of money. Tony suggested using a blanket to transport my all in one computer and nestling it in the back seat with the passenger seat leaned back. Good advice! Everyone that works here is nice, and Ryan at the front desk is super friendly and helpful. I came in at 8am on a Monday morning and got my working computer back Tuesday at 4pm! To me that was fast! My computer had a real easy fix, so it was just the cost of one hour labor. I used the 10% off yelp coupon, no problem. Tim did a good job explaining what the issue was *twice* and talked me through some options for backing up my stuff. It was scary seeing the blue screen, and I will definitely backup from now on. One thing that could have improved the experience would be if they were better about calling me to give a status update. I was eager to get my work computer back, and called 3 times to ask about the status. One time they said they'd call at the end of the day and didn't. Then the last time I called they said it was ready to get picked up. So maybe I didn't give them enough time to call me, because I was calling them a lot and often. I hope I don't run into any more computer issues, but if I do, I'll go back. read more

After 6 months of my computer refusing to turn on, I decided it was time to get it fixed. Well, mostly I decided it was time because my gf is moving out soon and is taking her functioning Mac with her. Frankenstein had decent reviews and the name is pretty awesome. I dropped my hunk o' junk Sony off during my lunch break and left it in their hands. Originally, they said it could be fixed pretty easily with some scan or something. Truth be told, I know about as much about computers as I do my car: It's awesome when it works, but when it's broke I'm screwed. They then called back to say that the problem was more complicated, as I had two installed anti-virus programs fighting each other, thus leaving my computer open to the intranet's evil do-ers. After that, they lost me. Basically, to get it fixed I would need to wipe out Windows and re-install it. This would cost $300. I'm suspicious of people who actually know things about stuff I don't, like mechanics. But they said I could do this myself for a fraction of the cost. I knew this was not an option for me. I didn't want to put in $300 worth of work into a computer I would only have for another couple of years. They offered to download all my data and charge me just $60, even though they had put a lot of effort into figuring out what was going on. Yes, so I did my computer in by literally having too much protection. I am now a Mac girl for life. read more

I run a small nonprofit agency and Frankenstein has been our savior on more than one (or six) occasions. Fast and honest and reasonable service. Tony will not try to sell you anything you don't need and even talked me out of a costly upgrade to my server that would have been at best an expensive band aid in favor of something that can get me through to when I can find funds to purchase a new server. When that happens, they will be installing it. They have earned our trust and loyalty many times over. They also worked on my personal laptop prior to working with the nonprofit, and that was also a great experience. read more

I bought my wife a new Macbook Air to replace her (really old) Powerbook. I took the (really old) Powerbook and its hip, lightweight descendant into the "Genius Bar" in the Domain to transfer the old pictures and music that she cared about onto the new system. The genius, while friendly, told me he'd have to charge me over $100 to transfer the files. When he told me he could show me how to do the transfer on my own for free, I took him up on the offer. He pulled up the (really old) Powerbook, got ready to launch the Migration Assistant, and promptly discovered that my wife's (really old) Powerbook was too old to play nicely with her spry new laptop. He said he had never run into that problem before. Did I mention that my wife's (really old) Powerbook is really old? Shortly after a botched attempt to put her (really old) Powerbook into "target mode" to do a direct data transfer, we decided to take our problems somewhere else. My wife's (really old) Powerbook then refused to boot up. Must have been natural causes. Enter Frankenstein Computer. I exchanged e-mails with Ryan and he let me know they'd charge me $80 to pull the data off the drive, up to a 10GB maximum. Given how old my wife's (really old) Powerbook was, I was relatively confident we wouldn't need more than that. However, Ryan let me know that any data transfer over 10GB would be $120. I decided to give them a shot. I dropped off my wife's (really old) Powerbook on Monday and got it back the next day. It would have been done Monday itself, except the Mac tech happened to be out of the office. Ryan and crew were good enough to let me know that ahead of time and they made sure to call me when the work was done. All in all, I was happy to have a quick turnaround on what I considered a reasonably-priced service...and they kept me informed on when things were done without taking up too much of my time. Extra props to these guys! I had a damaged screen they diagnosed right away, and then gave me the estimate on cost and time to repair. Seeing I needed it sooner, they suggested I try a competitor just in case the screen was available in-house. They didn't have to do that, but it's going above and beyond that makes them special. My husband and I own a small retail shop. One morning as we were opening our store, our POS system malfunctioned and would not start up. In the past we've used other repair companies that took several days to diagnose, so after reading good reviews about Frankenstein Computers, we decided to give them a shot. They had a technician in our store within 25 minutes!!!! After a quick diagnosis it was determined that they would have to bring it back to their shop for their master technician to further diagnose. They assured us it would be looked at immediately (since it meant w/o our POS, we had to issue handwritten receipts.) Within an hour they called us and informed us they were able to recover our system and restore the program. They delivered our POS and we were up and running in 2.5 hours total! These guys are great. I thought my computer was infected with the Zeus virus. Took it in and was given a service estimate, call back time frame, and completion projection. They were prompt in contacting me with an update. It turned out my computer was not infected so the charges was below their original estimate. I'm so thankful I decided to take my computer here instead of shipping it back to the manufacturer for repairs. After a lot of researching the problem with my laptop on the internet, I came to the conclusion that the hard drive was corrupted and would need to be replaced (meaning I'd lose all my files). John at Frankenstein took a quick look inside my computer and found that the connection to the hard drive had failed, not the hard drive itself. He fixed the problem in less than ten minutes and even explained to me in layman's terms what was the problem was and why it happened! I brought my laptop into Frankenstein Computers on Lamar Blvd because it was not charging. After only about an hour, the technician called me with their diagnosis. The problem was just the charger/adapter, and not the laptop. Not only did they not make a false/frivolous diagnosis just to coerce me to buy something I did not need, they didn't even charge me a dime for the diagnosis they did made. They provided me ample information on what part number to replace (adapter/charger) and where I can purchase one. Sure enough, that simple purchase fixed the problem!
