I have been using Frankenstein for almost 10 years for my computer issues. I run several businesses and I don't have the luxury of an IT department to handle problems. I try to keep the best equipment and keep it up to date but still hard drives fail, emails become conflicted (usually authentication issues), and other issues I can't fix on my own. It's also an issue of time. They can get me back up and running quickly. That's value! A very capable crew of specialists can remote into your computer and work through problems. I only have gone into their Lamar St. office when hardware needed replacing or for memory upgrades. This past week was the worst computer meltdown yet. I have used these guys for a gaming PC Build and to install an extra internal hard drive. I cant remember exactly but their hourly rate is between $60-80/hr. The total charge to build the PC was about $160 (without Windows install) and they turned it around to me within 8 hours. They totally saved our butts at the office yesterday. Our system had blown up (eventually found out it was due to conflicting ip addresses- of which we have about 100, not mapped), and we were dead in the water. I wish I could remember his name, but the guy who came out was calm friendly and competent, and he took the time to isolate the problem- the needle in the haystack. These guys are lifesavers! Everyone here is pleasant (even fun!) to work with & super professional. John & Patrick came to our business to set up numerous workstations, including mounting units to the walls in our exam rooms, and they did a fantastic job. What a great experience I just had at Frankenstein Computers! I was having issues connecting 2 new monitors to my tower. Jonathan assisted me letting me know I had 2 HDMI ports that weren't ever functional for monitors on my HP computer. I had spent wayyyyy too much time trying to figure out the problem myself. So, within minutes Jonathan corrected the problem I had been dealing with for hours. Also, I mentioned my hard drive had been making noises and thought it was on its merry way to yet a 2nd hard drive failure. Jonathan said dust accumulates inside the tower case,itself and that in turn makes other parts work harder. He took it outside, blew it out (looked like an Oklahoma dust storm), and my problem is solved. Other computer repair companies would have charged me much more than what I paid at Frankenstein. What fantastic customer service! Everyone working there seems to really love their work, and it shows with their skills, and positive attitudes. I'd rather buy a new computer than have these folks try to fix one. Most remote help folks I've dealt with do not charge if they fail to fix your problem. This is not true of Frankenstein which wants payment even if they fail. I assuredly don't expect any tech to know everything about everything, but I also don't expect to pay for failure. read more

Okay...Alittle backstory. Bare with me. I just built my new rig I got from Newegg a few months ago (Yup! Outside of return policy). Alittle more backstory. I am a former Geek Squad agent and hardware and software is nothing new to me. This is my 4th computer build. First time with an Intel i5 chip though. Well everything went smoothly until I tried to boot it up...Dead...Dead as a doornail. So after taking it apart and together again for days...finding zilch except the motherboard having a red led stating that their was a CPU issue...I swallowed my pride and I gave up and searched around. Found these guys and I Yelped them (Yelp plug!). They had more positives rather than negatives. Sent a message about my plight...within the hour I got a response from Tony (Manager). Suuuper understanding and thoughtful...didn't feel pressured at all. That was enough for me to swing on by during my lunch and got a quote for a diagnostic. Very reasonable compared to alot of other places. I brought my dead rig in the next day and met Ryan (who was nice enough to come out and open the door for me and my rig). He was straight forward confident and capable. He heard my plight and said he would keep me posted. Back at work...I get a message on my phone then an email telling me the bad news that their initial diagnostic meant that the CPU or the mobo might be bad. I felt horrible cause I felt like I was exactly where I left off with something I felt I already knew. He kept me posted email after email and gave me tips and options...PS. THAT IS HOW YOU DO IT! (Take that from someone who has done customer service for 20+ yrs.). Well finally I was about to give up and emailed them to stop...Ryan emails me litterly right afterwords that their coworker Tim wanted to give it another shot and was really looking in depth into the motherboard...needless to say...next email. EUREKA!!!...Tim found out that one of the pins on the motherboard was bent. He unbent it and it worked! I was sooooooo happy and re-leaved that they kept at it. Especially Tim. So after work I picked up a nice 6-pack gift for them and picked up my baby. Tim came around the counter and booted it up for me. He gave me alot of tips and suggestions and charged me only the diagnostic price that was agreed upon. I rarely give rave reviews cause I find most places sub par customer service or because of a poor product most of the time. Thank you Tony for being so inviting and genuine. Unlike everybody else on here, I know I got ripped off by Frankenstein Computers, as I was lied to about parts received, and was treated like an ignorant customer in my interactions with technicians. I would not recommend their services. My story: I had a relatively high-end, but aging, desktop computer with a failing hard drive. I read reviews of Frankenstein and brought it in for them to repair. They diagnosed it as the same as my conclusion, but said they could clone the information off the drive to a new hard drive. Great news for me and just what I needed (and was unable to do myself). They quoted me $90 for the hard drive (just the part, not the labor). When I inquired what type of hard drive it would be, they responded, "Larger than your current one, that's for sure." Not exactly a professional answer, but as I had a 1TB hard drive, I felt comfortable paying $90 for a 2 TB one. The labor charges they quoted were high, but reasonable and I felt comfortable paying it for the work. When I went to pick up the computer, a 1TB hard drive has been installed (a Western Digital Blue). You can buy one for $45 on Amazon and have it delivered to you in an hour. This is exactly why I wanted to know what part they were charging me $90 for. I appreciate a slight markup, but they 1) LIED TO ME ABOUT THE PART I WAS PAYING FOR, as they did NOT install a "larger hard drive" than the one I currently owned, and 2) CHARGED A 100% MARKUP ON THE PART! When I brought this to their attention, they offered to install a 2TB hard drive for $150 (again double the cost the part), but would charge me for the labor again. I offered to return a brand new hard drive to them of the same type for a refund, which they said they'd get back to me about, but I've not heard from them since. Overall, they completed the requested repair, but treated me like an ignorant customer, lied about the part I was receiving, charged an exuberant price for the standard part installed, and though their customer service was 'friendly' and spoken with smiles on faces, it was far from helpful or customer oriented. I would not recommend them for your computer repair needs. There are other local establishments who are just as skilled, but much more honest and customer oriented. -------- UPDATE: Despite the response to my Yelp review by the business, I recieved no follow ups to my last inquiry in regards to the current offer for a refund for returning an equivalent part (which clearly I would have taken up and remembered, since that's what I requested and described here). IMO, this offer has been extended only because of this post (which is better late than never), but that's my conjecture. Yes, I agreed over the phone to the original work order for "a larger hard drive" as described in my post, and yes, after the work was completed I was not happy, BECAUSE what I agreed to was not delivered (admittedly by the business's mistake). Also note that originally I was offered a refund for the part (store credit first, then refund), but not the labor, so I would have had to return the new drive, but still pay for the cost of the diagnosis and cloning (and still have a computer that needed repair). If I wanted the work done again, I'd have to pay again for the labor and the part (minus the store credit for the part, which was less than the cost of the labor). Not exactly a solution a customer would/should agree to. Nor should a customer have to pay a 100% markup on a common part. All that said, it certainly seems that my experience differs from the rest of the Yelpers and customers, so take it with a grain of salt. Just be sure to get what you pay for, and don't overpay for parts supplied by the business. If I would have been accurately informed of the part to be installed (good customer service), I would have supplied it myself and none of this would have been an issue. read more
