Came in for an Eagles night game. Interior is spacious with lots of warm lighting. It's cold outside so the fireplace is on and smells like a campfire inside (it's late November). We tried a handful of beers. All pretty solid. The food on the other hand...not impressed. We ordered the wurst sampler and small pretzel with cheese. Wurst sampler was fine but nothing standout. Was hoping for slightly better for $33. Least favorite sausage was the kasekrainer. It was dry and too salty. Favorite was the weisswurst (very tender, moist, and meaty). All others were about the same. Good/average. The pretzel was soft and doughy but a little underwhelming. The cheese dip it came with was cold. The atmosphere alone is what gets this it's rating. The sunny courtyard with large trees, brick architecture, and plenty of large oak tables makes this amazing on a sunny day. They even have vendors on the outskirts of the courtyard on some weekdays. Inside has nice tables with good warm lighting and a ping pong table. That being said, the beer is decent and the canned beer is pretty pricy (upwards of $15 or so). I know that must be a philly thing but I'm still not use to canned alcohol being so expensive. They can come in a stien which is good but not a big deal for the size. They also have beer cocktails which not many breweries can say and even though I didnt have the coctail I tried the beer it goes with and can tell it would be a good choice. The staff was friendly and helped with recommendations and samples. We are more hazy people and there weren't any even with their big list but I think that is just not their style. They have tones of janga games but no other boardgames which was a little disappointing but not a big deal either. Overall a great place to go with big groups esspecially in good westher. read more

I'd been here a handful of times before for drinks but this past Saturday was the first time I enjoyed some food. It was quick and easy to order at the window to the back right - as a vegetarian I appreciated they had a spicy vegetarian sausage option (as well as a veggie burger option too) - I opted for the spicy veggie sausage. The food was quickly delivered to our table. I added some spicy mustard and ketchup on top. It was pretty good! It also came with some potato salad on the side which was cold and refreshing. Was there yesterday for a party. All staff I interacted with were helpful, friendly and engaged. Food (pretzels, sliders and sausage in a preztel like roll) were fresh and tasty. Restroom was no frills but clean considering how many people were there. A bit too noisy for us to talk to each other but to be expected as a place that is crowded. My first time to this venerable Starr attraction, and sorry to say, I wasn't overly impressed. While I love creative adaptive reuses of old literal brick & mortar 19th Century buildings, and Frankford Hall delivers on that score with large spaces, red brick walls, concrete floors and rusty iron beams, struts and huge glass windows and portable walls, the kitchen left a lot to be desired. Loved the German beer selection, but found the execution of basic standards to be lacking. My Pork Schnitzel Sandwich was on a decent seeded Martin's Roll, but offered little flavor beyond the drippy mustard sauce that covered my fingers with each pick up. That the server doesn't deliver napkins, condiments, nor flatware, is frustrating enough, but when the dish calls for those necessities, yet doesn't provide them, it shows a lack of concern for the customer. Sure, we can walk over to a self service station to get them ourselves, but none of that is immediately apparent to a first timer. My son asked for their standard cheese burger w bacon, served medium finish. What he got was well done. The steak knife stabbing it in the heart was an ironic twist, because it symbolized what he received - a manslaughtered sandwich with the murder weapon still sticking out of the corpse. How is that even possible when the menu is so limited that execution should have been perfected long ago? On the other hand, the tagalong fries were also overdone, but sufficiently crispy and nubby to actually be enjoyable. We were excited when we walked in and saw how well preserved the old factory floor was, and appreciated the layout of inside/outside space, the bar and the large windows and roll up garage door walls. We left knowing that we couldn't eat the atmosphere, and the kitchen didn't hold up its end of the bargain. Time for new eyes to find the right vision for this unique venue. The current view just isn't making it these days. But, then again, maybe the supersized Bavarian Pretzels tell a better story. read more

Fantastic vibes, stellar beer list, delicious no fuss food menu, and arguably the best spot in Philly for your easy-to-plan group outing. I was hanging with some girlfriends on a rainy summer Saturday afternoon, and it wasn't overly busy. We easily found an a spot indoors and grabbed our beers from the bar, with big kudos to the knowledgeable bartenders. I told him what I usually tend to enjoy and he poured me the "kristal" on draught, which suited me perfectly. As time went on and the sun came out, it seemed like the entire neighborhood came out to play in the giant beer garden. Looking for a place to grab a beer and a hang out with friends, this is the perfect place! There are several varieties of beer and a few different wines. We came with friends to grab a drink and try and watch the Heat vs Celtics game. After ordering our beers we spoke with a bartender to ask about putting the game on one of the TVs, we were in Philly and they just got eliminated from playoffs so we thought they might not want to watch. Luckily after asking who we were rooting for and letting him know the Heat he happily turned the TV (The Celtics and just beat Philly so he said he was bitter against Boston fans). We drank several beers, eventually noticed all the TVs were turned to the game and everyone was cheering for the Heat who ended winning the game. Honestly not sure how to feel about this place. It was really cool inside and exactly what I was looking for in a beer hall. However, the bouncer was rude and the service was not great. It was my first time there and the first server I had was super nice and gave me a recommendation. After the first sip, I didn't like the beer and wanted to go for the one my friend had that was also recommended. I got a different bartender and this one was super rude. He wanted to charge me for two beers even though I took one sip from it. I explained the situation to him and he was rude. Before I walked away he let me take the new beer but said I should've asked for a sample first before buying. Always a good time at frankford hall ! Got a ton of food and beer and settled in to watch Germany play in the euro cup. This is the best place to watch because there are plenty of indoor and outdoor good sized TVs without craning your neck or turning in awkward positions to watch the game while eating and drinking with all your buddies. Had a little snafu with the burger coming with the bacon on it (not on the side for me) when I said I had my guy with me who doesn't eat bacon or pork so had to wait for another to be made. Feel bad if it was trashed as I would have eaten it but in the mean time he ate my veal schnitzel platter up pretty quickly as he was hungry. The portion of veal and potato salad could have been bigger for the price in the end. But oh well. We ordered more food after that. The spätzle was all right. I think it was a bit too pan fried I sure do miss Germany beer garden prices for steins so I'm gonna have to suck it up and pay my Munich cousins a visit! read more

The spaetzle was also great, but almost $7 for a little cup. They have both inside and outside areas and lots of TVs for those of us not into Jenga :-). There is a reason this place has over 1,000 reviews: it is one of the best bars in Philly, and consequently one of the most popular and well attended. I've been here countless times over the years. I spent a few years living in Germany, and I can say this is the most authentic German beer garden in the city. I wouldn't say the food is super authentic, but who cares, it's still excellent quality and superb in taste. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The beer list is also phenomenal. If you're a fan of German lagers, pilsners, Weizens, Märzens, etc. they've got you covered. Grab yourself a liter sized German stein, sit in the outdoor area under the stars (next to a real fire in cooler weather), and enjoy the atmosphere. Crowds here swell to epic proportions on weekends, but the staff handle the amount of people expertly and from my experience, lines always move quickly. It's Schofhoffer grapefruit beer with tequila and lime juice - it was so drinkable and refreshing so definitely recommend! For food, we ordered some pretzels, quark dip, potato pancakes with smoked salmon, and the schnitzel sandwich. Everything was really tasty, and the obvious must order is the pretzel with cheese dip. In the early afternoon, it's a pretty chill ambiance, lots of space, young families and gatherings. I ordered delivery from Frankford Hall. I ordered the Käsekrainer sausage and the pretzel with cheese sauce. I was glad that everything was still slightly warm when it arrived. The sausage seemed small, but it was tasty. Good flavor, but at the same time not any better than a brat I can buy in the store and grill myself, assuming I get a Milwaukee based brand brat. Since I was ordering delivery, I think they decided to give me the overcooked pretzel. I do not believe I would have been served this in the restaurant. It had no flavor and the cheese sauce was no help. I have tasted a delicious beer cheese sauce, so that was disappointing that the cheese sauce couldn't elevate the pretzel. They have delicious, traditional German dishes including Wiener Schnitzel, spätzle and a variety of homemade sausage. Your food is brought to you after ordering at the counter. There is indoor seating but in nice weather most people sit outside at the picnic tables. Most tables have umbrellas so there's plenty of shade. We were there on a Saturday afternoon and they had a live German band. The food was fantastic. The Wurst platter had all 5 of their German sausages and homemade kraut. 4.5 stars Located in the trendy (and funnily named) Fishtown neighborhood of Philadelphia, Frankford Hall is a casual German beer garden with plenty of outdoor and indoor seating, games like ping pong and Jenga, a wide selection of beers, and a surprisingly good selection of food too! For example, there were plenty of sausages to choose from, and my pick was the Currywurst, a pork sausage mixed with curry spices and sprinkled with curry powder on top. The sausage had a lean texture and a nice snap, and it was served in a soft roll along with sauerkraut on the side. It went perfectly with some of the mustard (sweet and dijon) and the curry ketchup you could help yourself to at the condiment bar. I also had the Veggie Burger, which was a hamburger made with an Impossible Burger patty, melted cheddar, pickles, onions, aioli, and a creamy "secret sauce." The veggie-based patty was completely convincing (I could not tell there was no meat!), and I also got a side of the cucumber salad, which had a light, creamy dressing and was garnished with dill and red onions. The only dish we got that was way under par was the Roasted Beet Salad. The concept of this dish was great, and the soft roasted beets were beautifully plated along with raisins, pumpkin seeds, goat cheese, pickled onions, and arugula. However, the execution was off, as the beets were so salty that they were nearly inedible.. But the most iconic item to get here has to be the Warm Bavarian Pretzel, which was at least twice the width of my face and came with an addictively delicious, unctuous beer and cheese sauce, topped with onions and paprika!
