The service was on the slower side, but it was packed when we visited so we expected to wait in line for a bit. It's a great spot to get off your feet for a while & grab a cold beverage! The reason to go to Independence Beer Garden: the awesome outdoor space, especially on a warm day. This area had a great breeze and plenty of shade, with the greenery growing overhead. And God really loves anyone who hangs out at Independence Beer Garden on perfect spring days. I got to visit with family as part of some wedding festivities. Everyone got together at Independence Beer Garden the day after the wedding for lunch. We ended staying for roughly three hours. The atmosphere was that great. Again, that's the reason to go. The beer selection was fun as well, with most of the brews coming from the Northeast. The food -- it was OK. Over our visit, we got the pretzel bites, onion rings, crispy cauliflower and cheesesteak. These are a step up from normal pub grub, with the crispy cauliflower being our favorite. The service was probably the most lacking part of our visit. We had to frequently flag servers down as they hurriedly rushed from the bar to one of the tables on the other side of the space. At one point we had to follow a waitress up to the bar to put in an order after not seeing a server for 30 minutes or so. But if you have to wait for a server, at least you get to wait in such a fun space. You're so close to several historical sites that stopping at Independence Beer Garden would be great on a day of sight-seeing. read more

Came with six other folks for a few beers and food at about 8:45 on a Monday evening. Each of us ordered a beer and three people ordered food. Waters came out pretty quickly, but they forgot one person--I had to get up to ask for another since the four or five people on staff ignored us as they passed by each time. Somehow the food came out 10 minutes before our drinks--what's up with that??? That should NEVER happen! When the drinks did come out mine was very warm (at least I could use the ice from the water to cooling it down), but once again one beer was forgotten. When I went to the bar to ask for it, the bartender was insistent that he had poured it, but couldn't find it at the server station. Meanwhile the waitress came back to the bar and said she had already served us--I explained the missing beer and she gave our table attitude for the rest of the evening like we were bunch of folks over 40 trying to scam her for one beer! I'm hoping our out-of-towner experience was a one-off for this business's sake, but our group definitely will find somewhere else to go for the rest of the week we're here. Popped in here yesterday, a hot Saturday early afternoon. We arrived around 1:30-2pm I'd say and it was pretty crowded but we were quickly seated and there was no wait. Little disappointed that the guys checking IDs were just tossing the little squares of the wrist bands on the ground instead of having a bin nearby to toss them in... Seating is done by the hostess stand - there's no standing around, ordering from the bar, or seating yourself. All tables are marked out so each party can have 6 feet of space between the next party, even if the table is shared. Menus are contactless via a scanner at your table that you use with your phone. I really liked the setup! This place always used to be super crowded and it was nice to not have to hunt for a spot. We ordered a first round of drinks and some light snacks - between two people we shared the cauliflower tacos and the fried pickles. Fried pickles claimed to be spicy but it was just paprika so they weren't "hot" spicy (which was good for me). The cauliflower tacos were surprisingly good! We aren't vegan, just wanted some vegetables in our life on the hot day instead of going with everything breaded, fried, and cheesed. The drinks were good - there was a wiiiide selection and you could definitely find something you liked on the menu. When the first round was delivered, we asked if we could get water and were told that someone would be around. No one ever came. Some tables with large groups had pitchers of water but it wasn't clear how they got them. There was a $4 can of water on the menu but I didn't want to pay for water. On a hot day, it should probably just be delivered with alcohol. They used to have self-serve coolers but I guess they took those away to avoid people crowding around them and/or all the touching. When we ordered our second round (the Federal Donuts/Conshy Brewing Company mashup Fednuts and a Sam Adams Summer Ale), we wrote in the comments to please also send over some water and put a lime in the beer. While we waited for those drinks, someone came around to clear trash (we didn't realize a can was right behind us, woops - but also, the can was for trash and recycling? Oh no!) and asked if we wanted water - finally! When we got our drinks, there was no lime in the beer. So it's unclear if the person we were originally promised just finally came around or if trying to use the comments section worked. Generally, just unclear how to get some courtesy H2O. Overall, a much better experience than I've had in the past with the crowds and of course drinks were great. Docked a star for the trash situation with the wristbands and possibly not recycling cans and the water problem. I'd still come back though (and maybe just be the person that asks for water at the bar if it's not coming to me) and would recommend it to others. read more

Went to IBG for a work event and loved it. It's perfect for those great summer days/nights. The day we went, it wasn't too hot which I was grateful for and we occasionally felt a light breeze. Since it was a work event, we had a small section to ourselves so it wasn't exclusively private and that was fine. The drink menu offered was beer and wine (we could've purchased our own cocktails but I was not about to do that, maybe next time). I don't drink beer but there was one I tried and liked because it was light and citrusy - forget the name. I also tried the wine but wasn't a fan. The food though, was really good. We got mini cheesesteaks, sandwiches, fries, etc. I tried it all and was happy :) towards the end, we got alcohol infused ice cream and omg it was the best ice cream ever. I had the piña colada and it was soooo yummy. There are games to play on one end which is cool but if it rains, watch out. I did not have a reservation and was seated as soon as I got there. They have tons of outdoor seating available and there is ample metered street parking. I got a few cocktails which were delicious, along with a club sandwich and fries which was awesome. They have a few TV there where they usually have on some sports. The venue is all outdoors allowing for two entrances with two separate bars serving an array of beers including watermelon sours, raspberry wheat and (your standard) yuengling beers.
