My favorite wintertime meal at Bishop's Collar.
    Chris L.

Great neighborhood pub with good food and a great beer selection. You can't go wrong with the classic pub sandwiches, and if you like skinny fries, they do them very well. My favorite thing on the menu is the beef stew, but it is seasonal. It's one of the things I look forward to every Philadelphia winter.

Vegan vegan vegan. With only one review on here using the word, it's time to draw attention. There are vegan options here. The veggie burger, vegetable wrap, and red pepper hummus with pita are all vegan. Yay! If you're into meat, you've got loads of options. Food spans a cross between gastro pub and dive bar (read: soups, chili, wings, steak tip sandwiches; quesadilla, nachos, and a variety of sandwiches.) Prices are reasonable and sandwiches come with fries or salad. The beer list is pretty long for a neighborhood watering hole. I snagged a pint of a great black lager, and also tried the Fiddlehead white which was nice too. There were about eight brews on draft and double that number in cans and bottles, plus ciders. Sitting under a tree trapped up in fairy lights on the outdoor patio was quite nice. Indoors is dark wood and a long bar and TV screens. Good place for sports fans or biergarten lunchers. Friendly service too. G'ahead, give it a try.

Stopped in a few times here, pretty decent neighborhood bar. Stop in for a quick bite or drink. Good number of sandwiches and small plates to choose from. Beer and drink list will meet your needs. Has some nice sidewalk tables perfect to chill outside on a nice day, or hang inside at the inside bar or dining tables. Nice spot if you're looking for something quick and comfy. Thanks

I've been living in the Fairmount Art Museum area for over 4 years now and I've been to pretty much most if not all of the food places around. Bishop's Collar is not among my top places to frequent. It's standard American fare. The restaurant is among the older establishments left. The service is good. It's definitely a good place to go for a drink. It's a bar. They have good selections and price for drinks. It's also a good location but that's about it. I can't say much about the food. It's just okay.

It very well could have been the pending new COVID lock down but I didn't get a warm welcoming feeling from this place. We got the Steak Tips Sandwich. It comes on a very good seeded roll. The steak tips were a little dry for my liking but very good. The smoked cheese added a lot of flavor. Very good sandwich. Very good selection of beer.

Outdoor dining - use the red door here for takeout or the side door for seating!

Me and my husband rode our bikes up to Fairmount today and had our hearts set on some Mexican food for a snack. Alas, Feliz Cantina was closed for the weekend! Such a disappointment. We wandered around a couple blocks and everywhere seemed to be super crowded and/or just the normal american pub fair. Boo. I seemed to recall ordering a snack from Bishop's Collar in the past so we checked out their menu. They had quesadillas and nachos, so we went with that to try and save our craving. We ordered them to-go because we aren't ready to dine out yet. They were ready quickly, which was great. We carried them a couple blocks south to the Art Museum area for a picnic. Neither were anything to write home about, but it filled the empty voids in our tummies. The quesadillas were filled with cheese and vegetables but there wasn't a lot of flavor otherwise. The pineapple salsa, which sounded amazing, was actually just chopped pineapples, onions, and peppers. Nice, but I wouldn't call that salsa? The nachos had some really poor distribution of cheese and toppings. There were blobs of stuff and then lots of dry chips. The green chips were new and exciting, but I've made better guac at home and that's pretty much all that there was except for the cheese and sour cream. I may just be sad that the actual mexican place wasn't open, but considering all the recent reviews that mention solid flavors and then us receiving some bland apps makes me wonder if those people work there or are related to the owner. Hahaha. Or maybe the meaty options have all the flavor and we missed out by going vegetarian? Still, I wouldn't write this place off to try it again. They did a nice job spacing out tables outdoors and they're on a quieter corner.

We have been here a few times over the years and the food and the drinks are always delicious! Another neighborhood gem! Fair prices for great quality food and drinks! You know it's a good place when people finish their shifts from neighboring bars and come here for a night cap. Service is friendly and done just right. We love this place!

Night of July 4th and hankering for some food; this spot not only had their kitchen open, but outside seating as well. Straightforward bar with your essential bar menu as well as some other interesting options. Decided to share the Nachos ($8), Chicken Spring Roll ($9), and the Risotto Balls ($10). Value for money is there as the plates are overflowing with food. Risotto Balls are 5 large balls that are well-crisped and served with marinara sauce. While the outside is cooked perfectly, there isn't much flavor inside (needed hot sauce additionally). Nachos are a layering of cheese, guac, sour cream, and beans - much of the plate was cold, and it was hard to get all the ingredients in a single bite. As for the chicken roll, the ground chicken was dry, though saved by the sweet and sour sauce that comes with the dish. All in all, not the best bar food - but the beer options are solid. Waitress here was nice despite the rowdiness of the day. Definitely come here for drinks, not so much the food.

I have visited BC in the past during beer crawls, Bastille Day festivals & a few Happy Hours w/friends. I have always felt the vibe was easy & chill...nice neighborhood bar. I like the craft beer & food oprions. This visit I had some food..the chicken spring rolls and Old Bay fries. It passes the test of good pub food. In tbe past I have had the burger and it was tasty too. The prices are reasonable and the staff are friendly- worth a visit.

I meant to update this review after my last visit a few months back but apparently forgot. I don't think the 3-star review holds true when I am actually a big fan of this spot and have visited several times over the past couple years. I don't live in Fairmount anymore, and I definitely miss having BC nearby. Why? - Bartenders are really nice. - Neighborhood feel. - Pretty good food. - Beer list wavers between good and excellent depending on the day. - Fast service. - Great prices. - Decent spot for HH.

Great friendly local neighborhood bar in the fairmount section of philly. I have been here 3 times over the past 2 months and the service/food have been consistent every time. The menu is typical bar food but not typical quality. This is some of the better bar food I've ever experienced In the area. Service is great from the bartenders to waiters. They are very interactive with their customers whether it's talking about the sports game on that day or just what's going on in the world very welcoming staff. Drink menu is limited so don't expect some high end cocktail here. PS...beautiful outdoor seating!!!

I've walked by here many times, but yesterday was my first time actually going in. I visited with a fellow Yelp Elite and one of her co-workers for Happy Hour. We were seated at a table near the bar and our server, who was also at the host podium, was Dontay. He was the kindest and sweetest man. He went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of. We each opted to get one drink and no food. If you want to get the wind knocked out of you after one drink, this is your spot. The drinks were STRONG. I ordered the Market Street Muse and I could barely taste the limoncello. The vodka and basil were the most prominent flavors. I was feeling good. I'm rating this establishment four stars because the drinks on The Philadelphia Cocktail Trail were essentially existing drinks they had on their current menu but with different names. Same ingredients. I was hoping to see something new or related to America's 250th. Overall, though, the space was very calm and clean and I enjoyed being there. All the menu items sounded great, too. I'll have to pop in here for a bite to eat next time.

I'm not sure why I waited so long to try the chicken at Bud and Marilyn's, but better late than never! They serve a LARGE 1/2 chicken. I started with the thigh. I was smitten by the first bite. I was told the chicken is soaked in a buttermilk brine for 24-48 hours - dipped in a buttermilk dredge - covered with their 'secret recipe' seasoned flour - and fried in a 'pressure fryer' that cooks the chicken in 12 minutes. It was perfectly fried - so crispy - the texture and seasoning of the exterior coating was incredible. The chicken was tender and juicy - the thigh was the juiciest - I didn't get to try the drumstick as I was too full! I had the thigh and 1/2 the breast. The breast is my favorite and I savored each large delicious piece I broke apart. It's important to pick up the chicken and eat it by hand - I did cut mine in half for a picture - but didn't use a fork to eat it - you lose the 'panache'of the meal. I didn't use the hot sauce served with the chicken - I brought my own bottle of honey and poured it over the chicken and biscuits. It was heavenly! Which brings me to the Biscuits! The dish comes with 2 large fluffy buttermilk biscuits - they were golden brown on the outside and tender and fluffy on the inside! They had such a rich, buttery flavor. I took several pieces of chicken and layered them on pieces of biscuit, drizzled with honey! It was truly a 5 star fried chicken and biscuit dinner!

Unfortunately, this was by far the worst experience I've had. We had a 7 PM reservation and arrived at 7:15 PM. I acknowledge that we were late and apologized to the host. However, we arrived within the stated grace period. When we checked in, the hostess explained that because we arrived later within the grace period, our 90-minute seating window would still end based on the original reservation time. We acknowledged that and had absolutely no issue with it. What made the experience uncomfortable was how aggressively we were reminded about the time throughout the entire meal. We were reminded at least 5-6 separate times how much time we had left. Comments like "just so you know you have 25 minutes left" and "our next party is coming in 5-10 minutes" made it feel like staff was actively trying to rush us out before our reservation time had even ended. Mind you, we already understood the policy. One reminder would have been enough. Instead, it completely changed the energy of the evening and made us feel unwelcome and pressured to leave. We had originally planned to stay through our reservation and then move to the bar for the live music afterward, but after being repeatedly rushed, we decided to leave entirely and spend the rest of the night elsewhere. The most disappointing part was the interaction with the manager, Eric. Rather than listening or showing any understanding, he immediately became defensive and aggressive. He repeatedly insisted we were "15-20 minutes late," which was simply not true -- we arrived during the stated grace period. The issue was never the policy itself. It was the way we were treated throughout the night. It's unfortunate because this has genuinely been one of my favorite spots in Philly, and I've recommended it to multiple people. But this experience left a really bad impression, especially when bringing guests from out of town.
