After you get off the train you take a school bus to Villa Milagro and wine tasting and wine lessons begin. Villa Milagro is a truly beautiful winery, we sat outside under a covered patio, we were offered 4 canapes to go with the 5 wines we tasted. It is a small and personal winery, I am from Southern Cali and lived in the vineyard portion of Temecula and even did private tasting at a couple of wineries I worked out (fantastic job if you love wines) anyway- the small class was fun and informative and the wines were very very nice- in fact we 10 bottles -Thank you to my hubby for practically carrying a case of wine around town LOL while I shopped - totally forgetting we didn't drive to the winery. I see mixed reviews here and I am not sure what people expect, but I was very pleased with the winery, the tasting and the wines I purchase- because I not only by wines I am fond o, but wines I know my friends and family will enjoy- because I know them and listen. They do not have a wine "club" so to speak but they do hold private events and honestly this is a beautiful winery to visit for a few hours, enjoy the view, have some food (bring basket) and enjoy the surroundings.

Come to find out, the steam train did not have air conditioning . It was 95 degrees on this day. We were told that once off the train, a bus would take us up the hill to the winery. This turned out to be a regular school bus - again, with no air conditioning. Once we arrived, the grounds were beautiful however, standing in the sweltering heat while listening to the history of this vineyard went in vain. It was way too hot to stand outside to listen to a story after almost passing out. The "tour" was us sitting in a cool room listening to one of the owners talk about the process of wine making. We tasted four five different types of wine - all were mediocre at best. They were paired with small bites, also mediocre. Once the lecture was done, they tried to sell us everything under the table. We will not be coming here again. Out of all the vineyards in NJ, we picked the worst one. The kicker? They were selling cold beverages on the train - instead of providing it to passengers for free, at least a bottle of water.

About 15 minutes had passed and the gentleman came out to let us know it would be another few minutes while the group who had been there when we arrived wrapped up. He was kind enough to offer us a tipping off of the wine and some bits of dark chocolate. We waited another 10 minutes or so and decided to go inside to see if we could begin our tasting. We were told it would be another five minutes or so. At that point we were getting tired of waiting, the gentleman was becoming testy (we don't think at us, but more at the guy leading the tasting to the group there before us), and we were not impressed at the Cabernet we had had already, so we decided to leave. We considered trying to get a refund, but the greeter was nowhere in sight and the tour guide had evidently stepped into a break room to have a snack. So much for our guided tasting. If you are serious about wine and want to experience one of the better wineries in New Jersey, this should be on your list. And the vineyard is simply beautiful.
