    Caboose (June 2008)

If you like wineries and never been on a steam locomotive before, this is a great idea! At first I thought we would just hop on the train and take it to the winery and back. But to my surprise, my friends and I were given a history lesson about the train, the area, and the winery! Our guide was so friendly and bursting with information! He even allowed us into the cab where the steam engineer controls the engine, firebox and other contraptions. What's neat is the entire staff is run by volunteers so you can really get a sense of their dedication and passion for steam locomotives. When we visited in June 2008, Alba Vineyard was the only winery they catered to. Now they added another winery - Villa Milagro. You can visit both for $40 a person or just Alba Vineyard for $25. The price includes the train ride, winery tour, and wine tasting. Also, the train doesn't exactly stop at the winery's front door! You hop on a school bus for a short drive to the winery and it picks you up after a specified amount of time. Note: There were only 3 of us on the wine train for the time slot we chose so depending on the size of your group you may or may not get as much attention as we did.

We stumbled upon this place on our way home from PA and decided to stop in. The atmosphere was…read morereally nice. It was relaxed, scenic, and welcoming. They even had a live singer performing, which added a great vibe to the visit. We shared a pizza while doing our tasting, and it paired nicely with the wines. The wines were good overall, though not quite enough for us to buy a bottle. One of the wines seemed like it was starting to turn, but the rest were enjoyable. Despite that, we still had a lovely time. It's a cute stop if you're passing through and want to unwind with some music, food, and a laidback winery experience.

Very peaceful, low key winery with friendly folks manning the wine tasting area. We came to…read morecelebrate Father's Day here on a drizzly, wet day with a small group. I made table reservations online for $20 (you get to choose a 3 hour block of time) -- and while it probably wasn't necessary the day we went, if the weather is warmer on a weekend, I'm guessing you'll need it! Minimal food available for purchase, but you can do tastings, flights, wine by the glass or bottles and are allowed to bring outside food and decorations (just not outside alcohol). Price point is reasonable, and we enjoyed a bottle of Cayuga white while overlooking the vines and fields. Peaceful venue, not fancy and kid friendly (which was a plus for us) and we appreciated being allowed to relax and enjoy the fresh air and wine! My husband enjoyed the red flight -- and while not the kind of wine that will knock your socks off, it's an unpretentious place and perfect for enjoying with loved ones.
