We learned that there is also outdoor space in the back, although we didn't check it out We stopped in on a Tuesday early afternoon. They share a dining space with a donut shop. Perfect set up. The woman who waited on us was so friendly, explaining anything we had questions about. I enjoyed a glass of Red Fox Grape Wine and my boyfriend had a flight. This town is beautiful. The winery was fine and nice service was excellent. We didn't have food but the blue wine was delicious and I grabbed a bottle. Beware! Apparently there's no parking very upset about the parking situation. Got a $50 ticket and there was no sign indicating that there was no parking in the spot we were at. We were very excited to be staying across from a wine and cider shop and couldn't wait to try a few flights. The service was great, the lady behind the counter was super knowledgeable and helped us try some new things with samples and suggestions. We bought quite a few bottles. Sadly one of our cans of cider was no sealed correctly and leaked all over our car. We went back in the next day to show them and explain and they replaced it no questions asked with a smile. Highly recommend for a quick bite and a few good sips. Seating is limited at certain times of the day but it cleared out quickly. read more

It was ok. The service was rude and honestly such a turn off we almost walked out. Clearly this is a tourist type town right. We walked up and asked what do they have, and they just kind of pointed to the taps. Like, lady, we don't know anything here, types of wine, cider, flavor profiles, etc. They literally provided no help, while one of the bartenders ate. We just took a shot in the dark with a flight. I asked because I wanted an opinion not to be told to read it myself. Apple cider wine was OK at best. My wife had a dandelion cider. They were $9 each for a 12 ounce paper cup. What a nice little stop for after a ride on the Santa Clause Special on the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway. Super friendly people, cozy ambiance, good selection of cider/wine which they break down into dry, semi-dry, and sweet categories for you (get a flight so you can try a little of each!) , and great charcuterie boards too! Sometimes you just get lucky and this is one of those times. Wild Elder shares an entrance with a donut shop we wanted to try, but was sold out and closed. Lisa at Wild Elder was there and very helpful, so why not drink instead :) Lisa was so helpful, thoughtful and fun to chat with. What started as a courtesy glass of wine or two for the friendliness turned into an hour or so of wining (in the good way like a bottle plus), charcuterie and chatting. It was after closing time, but we still were able to chat while she got ready to close. As a former business owner, I kept asking if she wanted us to leave, but she kept attending to us and said it was fine. The kicker was when she refused a tip. The system they use always asks for a tip and since we weren't sure how long we would stay, I kept closing out at each round. The last round (which I didn't know was the last at the time :), I asked her to let me finish processing my payment/tip and she refused. I said I need to add tip and she said "I know", but no. What a sweetheart. I know people don't always work for tips, but I'm happy to when appropriate. Never refused. Argued, but never refused. Going to have to recommend this place for anyone visiting Jim Thorpe and listen to Lisa's suggestions, because she was right on for what we wanted. Just let them know what your preferences are! If you are as lucky as we were and get her on a slow night, tip her well for me :) I think I did the first few rounds, but still left wanting to thank her more. I hope this review shows her how much we appreciated her. Please don't expect the same if busy, that's just not fair. Also think right time and right place has something to do with it. a very cute place to grab a drink and some food! got there pretty early in the day so it wasn't busy which was perfect. stopped in for the tasting flight and all four options were recommended at the counter, I ended up leaving with some cans and a bottle of wine the outdoor area was great for my dog, nice and shaded. we were the only ones out for a while but then it did start to get a bit busier out there when we were leaving. read more

I thought the ciders were good and the ambiance in the outdoor area/alleyway they had was really cute. The outdoor area was really good for taking photos! The indoor area was a little lacking in seats/space kind of but it wasn't packed by any means. The people inside were also really nice and allowed us to sample the wine slushees before purchasing also! Those were really good as well. It is located in the back of a donut shop on the main road in town. We had to park pretty far away due to the lack of parking in the area so be prepared for that! read more

Service was great but the wine and ciders really missed the mark for me. Three stars is generous. I gave most of the wine away as I didn't want to drink it. -Red Fox: Good, sweet red. This was the best of all the tastings I did. Very similar taste to vynecrest and a great holiday wine. -Apple Cider: Horrible, more like a seltzer. No strong apple flavor. -Elderflower: Decent, released the day we visited on 10/9 and much better then the apple cider. -Elderberry: Eh, dry wine taste with a berry finish. -Blueberry: Eh again, I didn't enjoy this. It tastes more of a seltzer then a cider. -Elderberry Apple Cider: Okay, very tart (not overly sweet, not too dry) but a lot of carbonation. Tulsi- Not bad, sweet finish to a dry wine. What a lovely experience in a cozy, hidden gem of a space. As you near Wild Elder, you may very well miss it, driving by what looks like a well-kept corrugated metal shack. There's a few small signs that let visitors know they've arrived and a great logo that hints more at what's inside, but otherwise it's a tucked away little den. But inside...what a wonderful time. Josh, the co-owner of Wild Elder, is there to greet you and stands amid the rows of barrels and wine and cider-making paraphernalia as he walks you through the loftier romance of wine and cider, along with the interesting science of how its all made. My partner and I visited yesterday and were able to sample from three bottles that were ready: a black elderberry wine, a hard elderberry cider and a hard apple cider. All three were delicious, a mix of tart, sweet and crisp for the ciders and smooth and dry for the wine. We left with two bottles. If you're in the area, don't leave without visiting. It's by appointment only, leading to a more intimate tasting and convenient for scheduling purposes. Josh is a thoroughly friendly and knowledgeable host, whose passion for the craft is immediately clear. We'll definitely be back when in the area. And can't wait for that tasting room.. read more

Let's just say Wild Elder is on my top 5 of wineries now. I loved this little Winery in Jim Thorpe. I was in the area for the weekend and decided to visit with my mom and sister and I'm glad we did. When we walked in it's such a cute little winery with a few tables to sit at as well as little items to purchase like magnets, stickers, etc. and as we walked to the counter we were greeted by Cheryl. Cheryl was so sweet and pleasant. She gave us the run down of the wines and explained anything we needed to know. We decided to do flights of wine as well as ordered sandwiches. We sat at a table and we went down the line from start to finish and I loved the white fox grape wine from the list of the sweet wines. I loved it so much I brought a bottle of it. Our sandwiches were delicious. My mom and I had their rendition of the blt and my sister had the egg plant sandwich which she enjoyed because she is vegan and was pleasantly surprised they had options for her. If you don't buy anything else buy the bottle of Elderberry it's the best I have ever tasted. It's so good for everything especially in the winter time during cold and flu season. 6 stars if I could. The wine and ciders were not jaw-dropping good, but were tasty and amazing given the price (12$ for a flight of 4x2oz). Charcuterie boards were the first I've had in many years that wasn't just a generic overpriced 3 cheese & cracker board. It came with some good unique cheeses, delicious toppings, some amazing sopressata & prosciutto, and the staff was well versed on explaining pairings. Staff were super friendly and gave great suggestions. Sandwiches were also pretty good too. And theres a cute courtyard in back to eat at! read more

This is a cute little winery with soft music playing in the background and art hanging on the walls. I went to do a tasting with bone the wines and ciders they have. Regarding the ciders we tried the Apple Cider, Elderberry Cider, Apple Elderflower, and Rosemary Hibiscus. Out of those my favorite was the Apple Cider. I could compare it to a Bold Rock Hard Cider but just less sweet. For the wines we tried the Elderberry Wine, Blueberry, Red Fox Grape, and the White Fox Grape. The Elderberry Wine wasn't for me at all, but it could be for others! The Blueberry was okay. The Red & White Fox Grape were much sweeter than the Blueberry and Elderberry. They were almost on the too sweet side, but they were good! I would definitely come back. The guy working the shop at the time was very helpful. read more
