One of the great things about this bar is that their happy hour starts as early as 3pm which is great. Though, it may get absurdly packed on weekend nights with a mostly singles vibe , the beer is good and there's still plenty of space outside. Some people seem upset that it turned into some hipster haven. But really, I've been going there since it opened. it's always been like that, just filled with even more people. Smooth, very chill, very interesting experience. Finding a bar with a NICE outdoor area is a rare find, so I was happy to see that. The drinks seemed pretty average to me and I have yet to try their food. There's a lot of space here so the potential is high. But the couple of times that I came here the crowd was a little dry. Maybe I have the wrong idea but I'm not the type to drink and just stand around. When I tried to interact with people in the outdoor space people reacted as if I was being weird, as if they weren't out at a bar on a Friday night. When I went to the dance floor there was one dude there who was just way too aggressive with the ladies, I mean just all up in your face and touching up on you aggressive. I was hoping he wouldn't scare all the girls and ruin it for the rest of us, but he definitely did. I'll probably give Franklin Park another shot soon though. read more

Place is pretty cool, drinks seem inexpensive and place was crowded. Overall this would be a great place but the Security at the door was absolutely horrendous. I understand nyc bars and clubs is not an easy job and it takes a little bit of muscle to maintain control. But this was abusive. Strongly considered calling the cops after I was told I couldn't smoke on the side walk or look in the gate and that if he "even smells that shit then I'm gunna have a serious problem" If I was the owner I would replace the doorman and guards to people more hip and personable, but still strong enough to keep control. We came here as a group for a wrap party. First thoughts, This is not the place to go if you want to eat healthy. It's bar food through and through. Hotdogs, hamburgers, fries, onion rings, shakes. Yummy if you're craving that type of food though (especially the Parmesan Fries). Ambiance- Middle of transition time between normal food to night dance place was a bit weird. There was a baseball game with sports fans shouting on the giant screen, but also a DJ set up playing with some tipsy people dancing. Outside in the garden-like area there are tables that reminds me of school cafeteria tables were people gathering in groups. I assume they are waiting for the real party to start. Just an vast array of personalities present- not necessarily bad though. Waitress - The waitress was a bit rude. For one, when we first entered there was no one to say where to sit, so we just took a seat. When we sat, it took about 30 mins for anyone to notice. She asked us what we wanted, but when I asked for water she said- there's water at the bar and she'll get us some if she has time. Then when we were hanging out talking after eating and she comes over and says something along the lines of here's the check since you haven't ordered anything from me in awhile. That alone isn't bad, but the way she said it was very unwelcoming. We did receive a free 'shot' which was more like a half of a shot an felt like acid when it went down, but hey, it's free. Beware of attending this bar with any valuables on you! My friend's backpack containing a brand new laptop was stolen here recently from where it was sitting on the ground right by her feet. When the bar management agreed to show her the security camera footage the following day, five minutes were "missing" from the footage right around the suspected time of the theft. The detective she spoke with said there have been many thefts reported at this location, so I suspect some of their staff are running a scheme that they are covering up. First of all, I wanna thank my connect! But really, Franklin Park is a really fly spot. Not only did it support my midday liquor insanity, but it allowed me to bring my own food. In fact, when my girlfriend lived on Franklin Avenue, i was there so much, that Matt Da Owner, allowed me to bring my pristine grilling skills into the venue and serve plates of food from the grill. Marinated Porto Mushroom burgers, Salmon burgers, Corn still on the cob and the likes was grilled and served with a smile. The bar and service staff was top-shelf and they played eclectic tunes from the ipod/computer, which was brought in by each bartender as they slung premium hooch and beer. The beer was great. The selection was smaller than a place like dba, though the shorter beer list allowed me to actually pick a beer as opposed to glossing over the overly extensive list at dba. I haven't been back since September, which is purely a function of me (or is that I........student loans be damned) no longer being in the neighborhood. I hear that they finally opened the new indoor space which is fantastic. Speaking of, i forgot to mention that it's mostly an outdoor space, it being a beer garden and all. Franklin Park received a lot of hype, mainly from the recent NYTimes article. I expected more dancing, a better dance floor, better music and a bigger crowd overall. It's a great venue and it's pretty easy to get to, but I expected for a Saturday night to be a little more hoppin'. I'd be willing to try it again maybe in the summertime. read more

There isn't much I can say about this place. There are two sections, one right past Dutch Boy's, and an outdoor area further past that. The crowd isn't really our thing, though the bar areas were hella nice! This place seems great for mingling and dancing, nothing too personal. The bartenders the night me and the buds went were okay, though we didn't speak much to them. Drinks were reasonable.. Hmmm, not sure what else to say, it was all just 'okay'. I prefer being able to just sit and start up a conversation with a stranger. No flirting, just good life conversation. Franklin Park is one of my favorite watering holes in Prospect/Crown Heights because when it is warm out it offers so much outdoor space to sit down comfortably and have a beer, and even when it is cold, it still has some of the cheapest beer around and a selection that is varied enough to keep me trying new things every time I go. Just in! Franklin Park has hired a few good chefs, and will be serving food in the next week. Even though a lot of FP goers may be accustomed to ordering in, and having it delivered at the bar, it looks like that's coming to an end. After all, you didn't expect it to last that long did you? (not worth losing a star rating for) The bartenders (especially Sean and Lauren), and the unique 2 in 1 bar concept, almost locks in that you're going to have a killer evening at one place. The food is good, but the service is trash. We had a party of 3. They told us they charge gratuity for bills over $100...the only problem is our bill (without gratuity) would've actually been under $100. Our initial server asked us to close our tab because his shift was ending, which is pretty unprofessional but we obliged. They never followed up to ask us for our next order. Also, according to the waitress, there was no manager on staff on a Sunday afternoon to speak to about our experience. Overall, it was a terrible experience. I found out about Franklin park when a friend invited me to have drinks for her Bday this past Saturday. I was shocked to find that FP could have easily been located somewhere in L.E.S. or WIlliamsburg., but NO, It's in Crown Heights! The gentrification experiment is working at it's best here! FP is in the HOOD!! No Worries,...There were 2 "Bouncers with ample size in front checking ID's keeping things smooth.( Shout out to the one checking my female friends ID being Super Overly flirtatious!! Save the b/s and try containing your lust!!! Last night my group of friends ( around 30 ppl) went to Franklin Park. Entry was smooth sailing until my friend (cc'd) asked a question re: the space. The bouncers at the door were incredibly disrespectful and told her to "shut her mouth". They actually repeated it a few times...Later, the taller of the two bouncers was putting up the outdoor picnic tables. As opposed to asking people to get up respectfully he just loomed over the tables and then barely let people move out of the way before putting them up. He actually HIT one of my girls in the arm with the table! He didn't apologize. He didn't even look back after people told him what he was doing. I actually saw him hit another girl too! I couldn't imagine this is the way they mean to do business. My friend and I live across the street from Soda Bar (their other establishment) and have been going there for years. She has actually thrown one of her daughters birthday parties at Soda and is a big supporter of their businesses in general. I would go into Manhattan if I wanted to be disrespected by security. We spent a lot of money last night to be treated crappy. A lot of our group were from other parts of the city and were looking forward to checking Franklin Park out. Great dive bar especially for those going our nights! After 11pm the party starts so don't be shy to dance on Fridays and Saturdays. Bartenders don't have a great selection but they'll try if your nice enough. Good food and great atmosphere for a night dance and lounge bar. read more

A loooooot of hipsters, but I like it anyway. The trivia night on Wednesday is really hard, but the host is funny and gives extra points for humor, so it's still a blast, even if you don't know many answers. The drinks are a little pricey, and they only take cash, but they have an outside seating area that's wonderful and the dutch boy burger place in front sends waiters to the bar in the back so the food is great. The bartenders are friendly and helpful, and even poured us a little Jameson on the house on our first evening there for a toast. It's kind of dark, but the decor is pretty cool with vintage photos lit up on the wall. The main bar has a projector screen for games and the smaller back back has actual television sets and more seating for the kind of sports fans who just want to sit and be left alone to drink and watch their games. read more

Their food was ok but service was terrible. We ordered classic burger and sandwich with fries. They didn't bring any sauce with fries,no napkin, no forks. Also I ordered ginger ale and water, they didn't even remembered. Honestly when I checked other tables I didn't see something wrong, I took offensive that. Laughably bad service every single time. The bartenders don't care and they don't even act like they do. I waited for five minutes while two guys stood behind the bar with their backs turned. It's really not my thing to write bad reviews on Yelp (although I've certainly been tempted to!), but this place really rubbed me the wrong way. While my bad experience doesn't guarantee you'll have one, too, I'm sharing this because you might want to skip this spot if you prefer to patronize establishments that respect their clientele. To sum it up, the management I encountered has little respect for the customer and poor customer service practices. I will definitely not be returning here. Why would I? There are plenty of other places in NYC that I can patronize that won't leave a bad taste in my mouth. Issue 1: Long story short, the parmesan fries that came out with my lobster roll had obviously been sitting in the window for a while because they were room temperature. I hate to complain, but I think most people can agree that cold fries suck. I asked the manager to replace them with a fresh order and she challenged me on it! Get this... she gave me a little lesson about parmesan cheese, letting me know that it doesn't melt all the way. Obviously she was referencing the fact that parmesan cheese doesn't melt into a gooey consistency. Umm, I know that--but that wasn't the problem. The problem is that my fries were cold. Then she indicates that's she's going to take my entire plate away (including my lobster roll). I guess they didn't want me to sneak and eat the cold fries (or so I thought... more on that later). I asked if she could just bring a plate out to take the fries back on. OK, done. A few minutes later she drops off my fries. They were the SAME fries! It was clear she had popped them in the microwave for about 20 seconds (there's no mistaking microwaved fries) and to add insult to injury, they were like 2 degrees warmer than they were in the first place. I was really annoyed and insulted, to be quite frank, and I would have said something, but neither she nor my waitress was anywhere to be found. Plus I really didn't want to complain about the fries again. After waiting a while I submitted to eating my subpar fries. In the meanwhile, my friend's fries had been missing from the original order and throughout that whole ordeal, the entire time it took me to leisurely eat my meal, her fries were a no-show. They came once I was done with my meal. And their freshness further confirmed the sorry state of my fries. Tips for this place: (a) You don't challenge a customer about a reasonable issue. I could see if it looked like I was trying to get over on them with some nonsense complaint--then maybe you handle that situation as an exception. Otherwise, just get the customer a new order of fries. (b) Make things as convenient for the customer as possible. You know I had a long wait for my food, so don't take my plate away and further prolong my wait. (c) Microwaving fries when a customer asked for a fresh order should not be acceptable in any establishment. All of these tips are coming from a frequent diner and a former waitress. Now, these are just fries we're talking about here, and after a couple glasses of wine and good conversation I was pretty much over it. But paired with what happened next, it was just the tip of the iceberg. Fast forward to Mon... I noticed 2 charges from FP: one for $66 and the other for $69.03. I had to hunt down an email address because there wasn't a number on the website (shady). Matty Roff, who I believe is the owner or manager, promptly phoned me. He took down my info and said he'd handle it. That was around 1PM. At around 9:30ish I shot him a follow up email. He responds: "Ahh, apologies. I will get back to you." OK, clearly he had forgotten. I advised him that this was my last follow-up and if I didn't hear from him by noon the next day, I'd just contact the bank. Mr. Roff replied to me: "TAKE A BREATHER: (caps my emphasis). At that point, I lef him know this wasn't good customer service and that this was an inconvenience for me. I also pointed out that if I had eaten there and tried to walk out on a $70 tab, he wouldn't have taken a breather before calling the cops. Next day a little before noon I received an email from him: "Getting back to you." I'm thinking, what does that mean? I check my account and everything had been straightened out. It was until then that I thought egregious lapses in customer service only happen to other people on Yelp. LOL. Tip: When you make a mistake like that--with someone else's money--you should take it seriously, and make it your priority to resolve it. Being nonchalant and unapologetic about your screw up is not OK. Neither is telling the customer to "take a breather" (BTW, I was professional with him throughout our exchanges). I could have gone straight to the bank, but I specifically contacted the bar as a courtesy because I knew going through the bank would impact them negatively. And for these reasons I won't back. read more

I wish I could give them ZERO. My girlfriend ordered a wine and a whiskey drink for us. The drink tasted like ginger ale and lime, she asked for the bartender to taste the drink because it was very weak, she said the she refused, she was adamant that she put enough alcohol, but we insisted that she try it herself. When I just accepted and left the drink on the bar and said I don't want it, she doused whiskey all over the bar, drink and my girlfriends shirt. 5 minutes later security said we had to leave and threatened that they would put me in cuffs to detain me because "I'm disturbing the neighborhood". I'm from the neighborhood! There was clearly stains on her shirt and security forced us to leave and they refused to allow us to see a manager. Security also disrespected my girlfriend saying "why is she dressed like that" because she has shape to herself. I seriously felt disrespected. I will NEVER VISIT FRANKLIN PARK AGAIN. The security is horrible, the staff is horrible, I won't recommend this place. I hope nobody goes here and this place closes down. It's a disgrace to Crown Heights read more

Cute new edition to the Crown Heights drinking establishments that serve our immediate neighborhood. What I like most about this place are the two things I noticed first and did a little mental check-in-the-box: 1. The way that current residents don't feel excluded from this hipster-y new place, which is a symbol of change in the area. I really really love how everyone seems to mingle or hang with their respective group of friends in an easy-going tension free kind of way, hangin side by side with ease. Great vibes. Most places that pop up in gentifying neighborhoods cater to one crowd or the other---exclusively. As a life-long gentrifyee, I've seen and lived through about 5 or 6 evolutions - (including the one I grew up in that never actually gentrified beyond our family and maybe 5 others). I do know that it is quite a task for a local watering hole in NYC to accomplish the task of appealing to ALL of the people who live in a community that is experiencing fast, large-scale demographic change - and actually attain a scene where the different crowds are actually mingling in a relaxed and natural way is almost unheard of. But wow, people are just coolin out here, the atmosphere is mellow yet social, and people are "jus breezin" as they say in the Caribbean. Cuz I hate when an atmosphere has that weird tension between different crowds who frequent, or worse yet, when people are made to feel like outsiders (no matter who they are) when they just want to have a drink in their neighborhood, so they don't even feel comfortable going there. The fact that they were able to create an easy-going setting that is relatively funky for a neighborhood place, and pulled it off a socially free/open format of neighborhood people gives Franklin Park so many props in my book.... I can excuse some other imperfections that may come up just for FP having accomplished that feat 2. Their format is professional and appealing without trying to hard to look trendy. To elaborate, the space is cool - there's a nice outdoor minimalist patio area which Becca S. enthusiastically details in a way that couldn't be better explained, and the indoor space is a step up from a dive with a full bar and excellent service (at least on Wednesdays it is). I have nothing to say about prices or other days of the week, because I have not yet paid for any of the rounds I've had here (someone always seems to be trying to get me crunk...hahaha-crunk), nor have I been on any other day of the week. What I will say is that a bunch of the old crew from Tavern on Nostrand has moved over here as our new neighborhood hang-out ever since the coolest bartender in the area (The one and only Ray) was abruptly and inexplicably fired. We are bitter, so we have changed venues, even if it is a 10 minute walk from our Nostrand Avenue stomping grounds. We now walk off our beer in a group!! GRRR read more

This is one of the more popular bars in Crown Heights. I often come here with co-workers after work, the area in the back is more than enough space for several big groups. This is a beer-drinker's dream, as they have many options on tap or by the bottle. The big room in the back turns into a dance area after midnight, so it's a great option if you're looking to have a few drinks and dance all night.
