I have a love/hate thing going on with the Ace Hardware chain -- I'm averaging them out to 3 stars. I've been to this Frattallone's twice in the past month. Everything is very expensive. I look at them like a convenience store for hardware, household, and garden type items. I'm going to pay more money at Ace if I was too lazy, unprepared, desperate, or otherwise in a hurry to get my items at a big box store or on-line & mailed to my front door. It seems like 99 times out of 100 I can get the item cheaper at Menard's, Home Depot, Lowe's, Walmart, or on-line. But sometimes I'm in too big of a hurry and I didn't prepare ahead of time or order something on line. I have to say, the people are always very friendly and helpful. Do not go here. Waste of time. I tried returning an item and they wouldn't let me because I purchased it at another location.

This place is overpriced. I overpaid for a snow rack a can't return (store policy). Do your research, if you can by anywhere else, do so.

It is our neighborhood hardware store. They have a really good selection of hardware, for example, their selection of nuts and bolts is second to none, and have been very helpful to me for many years. There are quite a few people around the store to help find things, and most can answer questions about the products. For example, last week, I was looking in the window cleaning liquids area for Rain-X, and not finding it. The lady in the paints aisle next row over handed me off their automotive guy, who took me right to it, and showed me three choices. Are they a little more expensive? Maybe, but so is driving to a distant store. And here, I have a decent chance of getting competent help, unlike waiting for an hour to find an employee in the big box store, and they can only tell me which aisle it is in. Do you find it interesting like I do, that most of the negative reviews are from out of town? AZ, FL, etc., and why would someone drive 40 miles from St. Paul, when they pass 8 or 9 hardware stores including at least two Frattalone's Ace Hardwares on their way? If I'm going to buy large quantities of deck screws or structural wood screws or something, I'll go to the big box or buy online. But for miscellaneous hardware, I like this place, and that is why I'm a loyal customer. read more

This is why I hate going to hardware stores! I thought going to a little store would be more pleasant. I need help with wood stain and I felt the lady that was helping me was not helpful. I don't paint, I need some direction on what stain to get. She just stood there and if I pointed to a stain she said it was wrong, I finally asked her if there was anything in the store that would work, she said no?! Really? I am in a hardware store? I think some of the women staff are very snotty, including the manager, I will never go there again! It takes a lot to get me upset, and the 2 staff members must not have learned how to look for things on their shelves or how to be cordial to customers. read more

The employees at this store are so friendly! It's nice in this day and age to be greeted and have your needs assessed when you enter a store. I always find what I need quickly here. I docked one star as I recently had keys cut and they didn't work either so I had to make a special trip to return them. But overall nice local hardware store! read more

Have been shopping here since this store opened. Always had decent experiences here. Until i tried to return a broken craftsman wrench. Remember, craftsman tools are "unconditionally guaranteed. If one breaks bring it in and we'll replace it for free. No questions asked". Well apparently that does not count if you take it to frattalones ace! I brought in a broken wrench and asked if I could get it replaced. The woman asked if I had bought it there. I told her I didn't know as I have been buying craftsman since The 1970's. She told me that she couldn't replace it if I didn't buy it there as it was company policy. So I said fine, I bought it here. She said " both you and I know you didn't" I asked her to prove it. She again refused to replace the wrench. I very calmly told her that it was a "shame that a crappy policy would cost them a customer." I then turned to leave and while I was there she turned and looked at one of her co-workers and said that I was pretty stupid for expecting her to replace that wrench. I might add that I was standing next to her with my very young disabled daughter. I stopped. Pulled out my ace card broke it in half and through it on the counter and left. I promptly went home and wrote an e mail to frattalones stating what happened. A full three weeks later I received a lame "sort of apology and was told if I could find my receipt they would replace my wrench. Wow! Do yourself a favor. Stay away from this place! Honestly you can go to Home Depot or menards all less than two miles away and save a ton of money! Update. 10/27/17. I contacted craftsman tools directly. I was informed that Frattallone's should have replaced my wrench. So craftsman sent me new wrenches. No questions asked. Very classy!No thanks to Frattallone's I will still never set foot in that store again. But will continue to use craftsman. read more

I like having a little hardware store near me and I try to support my local businesses so they can stay in business. If I have questions, this is the place to come. They take the time to talk to me and explain my options. I do shop the big stores too, but if I can, I shop here first. I can save a lot of time and get what I need. They have a nice Fairy Garden selection of items, plants and accessories. read more

I went here last year to have a key cut and the guy did it wrong and I didnt know this until I left town and needed the key to work. I put the key in my wallet in the store and left. I didnt think anyone could cut a key wrong because I have done many in the past myself but I was wrong. This key sat in my wallet for months and I lost my keys and pulled out the key and it would not open my doors or trunk. Now I have a bad key to make a copy from. I did manage after many attempts to try and pull the key out and could not open the drivers door and had to get in through the passenger door and unlock the power doors. My trunk wont open either. I went back to the manager and he tried to cut me a new key by manually moving the key on the device and this made a better fit that would open but it has to be at the right spot. THEY SCREWED UP. I sent a letter to the store asking for $80.00 to replace the key at the dealership and needed to get the factory key code off the VIN to get a new key. I did not get any reply about taking care of their badly cut key. I called One of the Frattalones and he left a message saying there is nothing they can do and that because I didnt check the key that day when i left, they cant help me. Sure maybe I should have checked the key that day but really, if they hire and train people right to do things, cutting a simple old car key should never be a problem AFTER. EVENTUALLY MY LOCK TUMBLERS ARE GOING TO WEAR OUT AND DAMAGE THE LOCK WITH A BADLY CUT KEY. I did not get a reply from my certified letter I sent them. read more
