There was enough leg room but if you're very tall, get an aisle seat! Don't waste money on the Founders Lounge upgrade. It's a smallish room with not that much seating and a cash bar. I came here for the tribute concert to Gordon Goodwin this weekend. I'd actually never heard of this theater before that so I was excited to discover a fantastic new venue! We were originally seated in the balcony but got upgraded to the founders circle -- we were in the third row of the section, just off center. The seats were perfect, even for my family who are all around 5 feet tall -- we could see perfectly since the seats are angled. I also liked that there was a lot of room in between the rows so we weren't cramped. The man next to me was over 6 feet tall and his legs were nowhere close to the row in front of us, so that's not just a short person observation! If you're sensitive to noise, I would recommend bringing earplugs, because the sound in there is LOUD. You definitely won't have a problem hearing. I also read some reviews that said parking was difficult. Well, take it from this parking-challenged person -- it could not have been easier! Huge garage with equally huge parking spots. Yes, it could take a bit to get out since it's single file, but a car let me in very easily, and I literally got out of the venue in 5 minutes. I can't wait to experience more shows here! read more

We had a great time at this theater. There are no bad seats in the house. We had balcony seating. The John Crist show was absolutely hilarious. We noticed there was HUGE line for the downstairs bar. Pro tip: there are 2 bars upstairs and they were empty. I'd definitely come back here to see a show. read more

Love coming here for shows! Every seat is a great seat but center orchestra section is the best! This time we were here for the Sixties Mania concert and while it was a great show, the sound wasn't dialed in very good. Huge difference from all the other shows/concerts we've been to here. Especially compared to the 2 different Post Modern Jukebox concerts we've seen here. The staff is very nice, eager to help. The bartenders definitely need some mixing lessons! My $19 double dirty martini was heavily loaded with the olive juice and vermouth and I couldn't taste the vodka at all! Served in a very small cup. My husband's $19 double margarita was ALL MIXER!! Also for a double? Was served in a small cup If you're going to offer a bar? And charge such high prices? At least make sure what you're putting out is excellent! The Fred Kavli Theater is a great venue! I attended a comedy show and we were able to get in and out of the parking lot easily which. The seats were comfortable and the venue itself is well kept. The staff was friendly and happy to help us finding seats and restrooms. Only bummer was that merch wasn't for sale after the show (guess we should have looked at the signs more closely when we came in since there was a 2nd show that evening). read more

First time was to see the band Chicago & last night to see "The Book of Mormon." Hysterical!!!! The choreography, singing and acting was top notch! This venue is very clean inside with high ceilings and wide stair cases taking you to the mezzanine & balcony. The staff are super friendly from the minute you go through security, enter the lobby and then guide you to your seat. This theater seats 1800 people with easy access to your seats. *No one has to get up to allow other patrons to get to their seats. However, manners are well received when someone actually says "excuse me," when someone scurries by you to get to their seat:) *Many Ushers work as volunteers and get the perk to see the performances for free:) ~Works for me! ~ They have a Snack Bar in the lobby but no drinks or food are allowed inside the theater...*yeah, some people don't follow this rule...just sayin' *Parking is available in the large structure for a fee. It's a nightmare getting out and can take a while so you might want to linger before you leave. *There are some parking spots on Thousand Oaks Blvd - just read the signs. People were super polite. The parking is NO cash... have your card ready for a quick tap. Although there were to attendants at the parking garage entrance ... it is slow. So in order to not be late to your event... plan to get there at least 30-45 minutes early. Although we got there before the show... due to the traffic with the entrance... we were late. I Kept My Head Up at Fred Kavli Theater in Sherman Oaks for the Andy Grammer concert recently. So apparently this is just one section of the overall Bank Of America Performing Arts Center. The sound quality was fantastic, seats were great (I was first row balcony), staff was excellent. This is not a big venue so it really is an intimate experience with whatever artist, performer or show you've come to see here. I feel like any seat would be a good seat because of the size. Parking price can greatly vary depending on the artist. They have their own parking garage which is great. But be warned, it takes ages to get out. If you have a Tesla like me, just put a good show on and wait out the masses exiting if you don't dip early. I enjoyed this venue so much, I've signed up for their emailing list! I mean, that is legit love to allow them into my personal inbox~! :P Being forreal though, Sherman Oaks is a trek of 45 minutes for me but I will surely make it again to see a concert a the Fred Kavli Theater! Between the time when I started this review on Monday and today, I've bought tickets for Ginuwine and Montell Jordan ~! While the design of the hall and lobby are very nice, there's a few issues with the theater itself. Others have complained about this before and no changes have been made since, unfortunately. 1. My husband is 5'11" and has a slim build. He struggled to get comfortable with the seat. The seats are oddly tiny and crammed together. There is no dividers on both sides of the rows, so you have to move past so many people. We luckily chose end seats. 2. The speakers are painfully loud. We saw John Cleese's 50th anniversary tour for Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and the sound would blast. It wasn't until the clanking of the knights' armor during their fight scene that our ears were physically hurting. We had to stuff wadded up tissue in our ears to protect them and bring relief. I know we were some of the few younger people there where most seemed 50+, but we've been to plenty of concerts that didn't sound that painful. read more

Nice theater for the smaller shows. My partner and I watched Pretty Woman the musical here. We got a buy one, get one 50% off tickets from Ticketmaster. Theater is not as nice as Pantages, but decent. Staff and ushers were friendly. We got a double shot Tito's vodka soda, Jameson and ginger ale, and a bag of Doritos for $31 not including tip. Bathrooms were decent. Parking was $15 and we found a great parking space near the walkway entrance to the theater by arriving an hour early. Not sure if this was allowed, but balcony had only around 30-40 guests so we moved to closer seats read more

I've now seen 2 shows here. First time I sat in the balcony: the seats don't have enough leg room . Last night I sat in the orchestra downstairs: fantastic ! Legroom and great viewing. Plenty of stalls in the restrooms. Very clean. My only suggestion would be to move the merch display away from the concessions / drinks. Creates a bottleneck. Staff is very nice and helpful and they move patrons through security and tickets quickly. Parking is easy - the indoor lot was $15 and easy in and out (we were early so no line getting in. Last time it was a bit of a line of cars . It's also cashless so it should move quickly providing people haven't maxed out their credit cards. And Drag Queen Christmas was fantastic! I've never been to a drag show and bought the tickets when Florida was on a rant just to see why De Santos loves it so much. read more

Saw Addams Family today and unfortunately as a first time guest was disappointed with the venue in a few ways and won't be a returned guest. First, parking situation is not ideal and today with an unrelated event the parking was packed - and the venue send out an email while we were in the structure to give notice about the parking issue. Second, the place is NOT LE friendly. Security told our LE friend no exceptions and to leave the piece behind. Very unfortunate to see such lack of accomodations. Third, The venue is fair but crowded today for the space and the service + accomodations. The bathroom and snack lines were so long and the staff didn't seem very well trained. I personally had an incident as well that was not welcoming - when we walked towards our seat a gentleman and his service dog were already seating at our seats as he was talking to the staff. It was clear that both know those were not his seats. I notified him and staff about our seats and they both walked away. Moments later, the gentleman with dog came back and asked me to switch seats (his seats was in the middle of aisle and our were two seats by themselves) so he can have more room for his dog - which I refusee. I was a bit confused if the venue doesn't support ADA personal or was not able to accommodate the gentleman's needs, specially since he was talking about our seats and I heard him mention that he was going to ask us for our seats. We went to the Steely Dan tribute show starring the "Steely Jazz" band Sunday night July 7, 2024. We were really looking forward to hearing Steely Dan tunes especially being played by a few of their actual band members. Unfortunately the sound technicians were incapable of doing their jobs or the equipment there is so bad it was impossible. The audience was yelling to turn up the vocals for the singers as well as the keyboard player. It took over an hour for them to even come close to getting the sound tolerable. People were leaving by the handfuls. Cracking speakers caused by bad wires or other faulty equipment should have been discovered and fixed BEFORE the show started. Not during the performance. That is what a "sound check" is about folks. To add to the frustration, in the opening comments by one of the band members, it was stated that Jeff "Skunk" Baxter would be performing. Unless he came out after the announcement of "this will be our last song", he was a no show. On a better note Keith Carlock and Tom Scott were awesome and even with the odds stacked against them with the sound debacle they sounded great. Unfortunately I can't say that for the rest of the band since we really couldn't hear them. The venue seems good however, until I hear that they have some real talent doing the sound for musicians that deserve better, I won't be back. read more

Terrible venue. Below average sound quality. Getting in and out is like a maze with a bunch of one-way doors which lock the moment you exit and make you go around the entire block. The folks who work there are always rude and not welcoming. Our kids have performed there for the last several years and every time there was some incident with the operating staff. Example - my daughter's dance troop had to use the restroom in order to apply makeup since the dressing rooms were too small for the amount of dancers. All of a sudden a staff member kicks them out of the bathroom for absolutely no reason. These guys have the attitude of TSA agents but without the training. It's a local community civic center - be civil! Typical government employees... Whoever planned this place and is operating it should not be in the business of hospitality, entertainment, or pretty much any other business. read more

Never had this happen before in my decades of concert going! They double sold our seats! We were denied entrance with our e tickets as we had "already entered". We went to box office and after a lot of whispering and consternation we were told they had "printed" our tickets earlier and scanned them, but not to worry, our seats were still ours and we were let in a side door and assured no one would be in our seats Well guess what our seats were occupied. Nice venue that does a good job of booking desirable musical performers for us baby boomers. Puts the San Fernando Valley Performing Arts Center (the Saroya) to shame! After years of enjoying every concert experience at the Kavli, we had a negative experience here on June 16th 2023. We were excited to see Tommy James and the Shondells, but came away disappointed. The sound and sound mixing were truly awful. The volume was over the top LOUD to the point where hearing the vocals was a major struggle. Like the line in the movie Back to the Future, "you kids are just too darn loud". Too bad because the group's songs are so wonderful. In fairness, I don't believe it was the fault of the venue. Back to the venue. Seating on the Founders Circle level is a good option if you don't opt for orchestra and it's a good vantage point versus the balcony. Parking in the structure is getting expensive, changing from $8 to $15 on 7/1/23 (cash no longer accepted). Disappointing. We will continue to support the Kavli (and the wonderful and intimate Scherr Theatre that's in the same civic complex). Keep up the good work in booking quality performers...just please remind them that an audience full of gray hair doesn't mean we need the volume set to "stun". read more

Overall a great venue that is both convenient and intimate! You still get the hometown feel when you visit this theatre where the local folk still say hello and still look you in the eye! I noticed immediately that the theatre is very clean and pretty well maintained and organized. I was here for Culture Club a few months back and most recently for Jim Jefferies this past week. No major complaints except that to get there from Los Angeles is a good hour and a half...be prepared to either leave early if you want to be on time! Waze it first for a more accurate timeline. The parking spaces on site were plenty and the fee of $15.00 is very reasonable! I think because of the intimate setting of the Kavil, meet and greets were available as an add on and I certainly took advantage of it. Just be sure to buy them early as they do sell out quick. This is a great theatre in a nice location (right off the 101 fwy). I came here to see Paul Nicklin in a speaker series. Parking is plentiful in the garage (there is a parking fee). Grounds are very clean and kept up nicely. The theatre itself is clean and modern looking, with concessions including wine options. I had a heavy handed pour which was nice! There really wasn't a bad seat in the house. Staff and volunteers were helpful and polite. Would definitely return to see other events and engagements here. read more

Came here last Friday at 2pm for the Pj Masks Save the Day live performance. Had row E orchestra seats and they were great, with clear visibility of the front. I've seen a few performances at the Fred Kavli theater in all different parts of the theater. For Earth, Wind and Fire many years ago, we were way up in the balcony. It was an amazing show, and it still felt very intimate. Being up in the balcony we did not feel like we missed out on anything. This most recent visit we were in the fourth row to see Shrek the Musical. It was an excellent performance and we loved being so up close to the performers. You could tell the entire audience had an amazing time from anywhere in the theater, though. When we arrived, I was having a hard time logging into Ticketmaster from my phone. The usher at the door was kind enough to let me know I could check in at the box office for my tickets. It was much quicker than trying to log into Ticketmaster. I still haven't been able to log into Ticketmaster! read more

Long lines for parking, getting in, bathroom and food and drinks! Not the best lay out, not super impressed but ok

My friend and I watched the play for The Hunchback of Norte Dame about a year and a half ago and this review is long overdue. We had a lovely experience and the performance was beautifully done. I loved the Disney animated movie as a child and loved it so much that I recall the wallpaper for my room being Esmeralda and Quasimodo themed. It was entertaining to say the least when I'd watch the animated movie but to actually see the play as an adult, more emotions were emulated that made me feel for Quasimodo. It brought back a lot of memories and the play was able to capture people's hearts indefinitely. The play was scheduled for 8 PM for a Saturday and I remember we arrived a few minutes late thanks to prior dinner reservations and a far commute. The play had promptly begun on time so I'd highly advise people to arrive early before the scheduled time. PARKING It's provided in a covered parking structure and I don't remember how much it was. I called the box office and purchased tickets over a month ago. I spoke with the box office because I needed handicap seating... sadly my husband is in the hospital. Fortunately he is not here... handicap seating is so far up in the nosebleed section, in the last possible row. It is two steps down and 100% not ADA accessible! I'm not that large but I'm squeezed into this seat and shoulder to shoulder with people I do not know. My knees are touching the seats in front of me. $190 wasted! read more

Absolutely beautiful venue for a concert. Had a wonderful night seeing Scott Bradlee's Postmodern Jukebox. Acoustics were amazing, seating is comfortable, and the show was amazing. The staff was all extremely friendly and helpful, from security to bar staff, ushers and ticket takers. I'm not sure if it was the show but this theatre had very low energy compared to the Pantages. The production, set designer, choreography and ensemble were horrible for Donna Summer. The music was great but we were laughing at the sets and what they had the ensemble do. And the ensemble seemed like the retired or rejected group from Broadway. Sorry but all my 3 friends agreed - weird. The crowd seems to be very elderly as well. Totally fine and hope to attend when I'm gray haired but the vibe was totally off. We got there early so parking wasn't bad but reading the reviews I can see where it is frustrating. Not sure it's worth going to any shows here if the venue can't afford qualified directors and ensemble. PS the leads had beautiful voices! Thank you for that! read more

I am surprised at less than positive reviews. This is the largest theater between LA and SF and we get outstanding shows. I am a season ticket holder at some of the larger LA venues but I must say, I prefer this theater. The acoustics are great, people are friendly, there is ample parking, restaurants within walking distance and quality local and visiting shows. read more

I'm a fan and would visit again. Here's what I liked about this place: 1. The venue looks great. 2. The sound and lighting are good. 3. The view isn't bad even if you're sitting in the upper deck. 4. It's a convenient location to get to if you're within 20 miles of the venue. Here's what I didn't like. 1. Concessions are near the bottom of the building which means if you bought seats in the upper deck you'll need to choose between going to the bathroom during the intermission, those lines were long, or taking several stairs down to find a concession stand. 2. Parking is easy on the way in and terrible on the way out. It was generally unorganized and took almost an hour to get out of the structure. It's not surprising as several events I've been to are great about accepting your money and directing you to a parking space (whether you want to park there or not) on the way in, and these same people disappear after the event and it's generally chaos getting out. Bottom line I'm still a fan of the venue but I suggest you make arrangements for food and transportation. read more

I was excited to return to live performances here since the pandemic had caused everything to be cancelled. I was reassured by the numerous emails and announcements they'd sent that patrons would need to be wearing masks. I had attended a performance at the Soraya a few weeks ago and I'd felt safe seeing all precautions being enforced- BUT NOT HERE. Because they allow patrons to bring drinks into the auditorium, folks use this as a pass to NOT WEAR THEIR MASKS FOR THE ENTIRE PERFORMANCE. When the usher was notified, they asked some of the unmasked to put them back on and were told "NO!". Just openly defied by drunk, unmasked patrons sitting next to us. I emailed the management of the venue who responded by telling me that they could only appeal to people's better nature- UH NO. I explained how the Soraya had kept this problem from occurring by NOT ALLOWING DRINKS INSIDE THE AUDITORIUM. The Soraya's also moved their concessions to the outdoor courtyard. The management of the Kavali acts like their hands are tied but that's simply not true. So if you go to a performance here you should know that you will be surrounded by unmasked patrons. They did check for vaccination or proof of negative test, I'll give em that. Otherwise, as we watch the numbers of COVID cases rise AGAIN, you'll be at higher risk of catching and/or spreading it while you are enjoying your performance here. read more

The theater is dated but clean and well maintained. Traffic wasn't too bad getting there, however once in the parking garage there were about 18 handicap parking spots total in a six floor parking garage for an 1800 max capacity venue..... I parked, on the 5th floor, it was easy enough to get to mezzanine, seats, bar etc. Leaving was ridiculous as they have only 1 elevator! Worse it took an hour to exit the garage. I'll never park in that garage again. I will see another performance at the center though. They are very professional, tactful and even courteous about their policy regarding COVID as well their adherence to county and state mandates, but make no mistake they're NOT messing around when it comes to COVID; you must, without exception, have a mask and your CA state certification that you are completely vaccinated either printed or on your phone or you will NOT be admitted into any part of the theater, lobby, ticket Windows or patio just outside the main entry doors. Maybe this pandemic will all be over someday so you won't have to deal with getting there on time only to have to wait 30 + mins. When childish adults refuse to put on masks while demanding to be let in, or threatening to Sue or kick somebody's butt, scream obscenities while crying after failing to convince ticket takers they had their vacc card a minute ago. What you need and what you must have along with everything you ever wanted to know is on their website. Read it. If you can't abide, cool, stay home. Don't ruin someone else's day. read more

They intermixed vintage photos of cars, girls, the beach, surfing videos & groovy lights & designs from the 60s throughout their performances. The Beach Boys then went into Honda Honda, Surfin' USA, Surfer Girl, Dance Dance Dance, In My Room, All The Love in Paris, Darlin, Why Do Fools Fall in Love, When I Grow Up to be a Man, Ballad of Old Betsy, Little Deuce Coupe, Shut Down, California Dreamin' , Sloop John B, Wouldn't It Be Nice, California Girls, God Only Knows, Pisces Brother (Tribute to Georgia Harrison), Cool Head Warm Heart, Do You Wanna Dance, Help Me Rhonda, Barbara Ann, Good Vibrations, Kokomo, Fun Fun Fun & others including a Solo by John Stamos. John's First concert was The Beach Boys; now how cool is to be playing with them & a part of the band. It was so much FUN FUN FUN & they had the whole audience singing along to the tunes. Afternoon matinee sweltering in our balcony seats. Never again! We spent $450. For 4 txs to see Book of Mormon. Terrific show...terribly uncomfortable upper seats. Hot and cramped. Just awful. Saw many people leave mid show due to the heat in our balcony area. There were many attendants waiting outside in the hallways and none seemed concerned. We have enjoyed many shows in Los Angeles and will definitely not attend another summer show at the TO theater, as even the hallways and lobby were steamy. I'm so disappointed in this theater. I had been here a couple of times years ago and enjoyed it as it's a great intimate venue for a concert. However, when I attended last night it was an absolute nightmare. First of all, it was storming massively (not a typical California evening at any time of the year), and there were flash flood warnings, power outages and emergency alerts even going off in the event. We arrived in what I thought was plenty of time to see the first show but we were delayed at least 1/2 an hour or more by the oversold parking garage which we drove up and up and up only to find no spaces available. We then had to come back down and the parking attendants were not very helpful in finding us a place to park nor would they refund our money. Needless to say, we paid $8.00 for them to waste our time (they knew the garage was full) and energy to only get caught in the pouring rain and missed the opening show. If that wasn't bad enough, they had one tiny bar open with only one bartender though two should have been working so by the time we got our drinks and got to our seats the opening show had already begun. The seats were great (though they need more sections in between rows to get out) but the sound was a little low I thought for a concert though it got better towards the middle to end of the show. The worst part of the evening was trying to get one last drink in the middle of the show (8:50 pm as the show did not end until 10:00 pm) just to be told the bar is closed though the bar tenders were more than willing to continue to serve. Whoever the manager or douchebag warding people off was a complete a-hole and would not even let me purchase a bottle of water. This almost ruined the experience for me but I went back into the theater and enjoyed the rest of an epic show (Culture Club). If it weren't for Boy George and his awesome band I would have left that theater and never returned. Thank you Culture Club! read more
