Regardless, the free entry automatically made the visit a great value. This is a small museum (and even smaller now due to unfortunate damage caused by landslides in recent years) with a gorgeous interior, a vibrant garden, and regal ocean views. The interior includes many collected works of fine art that betray quite good taste, something to be attributed to the provenance of the home. I liked that because it was during the winter holiday season, the house was decorated accordingly; I wonder what the house looks like during other times of year! I am not sure how involved the museum docents are meant to be, but they appeared happy to show us around and give further explanation on some details of the house. Important note: public restrooms are available, and also there are even functional in-situ bathrooms. Using one made me feel like I was a proper guest to the home. This will probably be a good time for the whole family, if art and culture is something yours values. I'm bringing my mother on my next visit, hopefully on another free day.

I forgot how close San Clemente is to where we live in South O.C. - we paid for pier parking ($1.50 per hour) and decided to spend the day strolling around town and decided to visit the Casa Romantica. We paid the $8 entry fee and walked around the outside and inside of the property; it was a Thursday and there weren't many people (maybe 3-4 others). Amazing views and gorgeous garden areas. The butterfly garden area was my favorite and a lovely gentleman at the front desk answered many questions for us and even gave us some Milkweed seeds to take home for our garden so we can help with the Monarch Butterfly population in SoCal. The outside deck area is still being shored up from the landslide but we were told it should be open to access soon. The architecture of the buildings and the wooden flooring are beautiful and there is a wood-burning fireplace with seating as well as tables and chairs on the artificial grass area. Make sure to keep your entry receipt as the fee is good for all-day access to the facility (closes at 4PM) M-F and 2:00 PM on weekends (due to weddings and events). After walking back to the beach to dip our toes in the water we got our car out of the parking area and drove the short distance back to the Casa Romantica and enjoyed another stroll looking at all the different flowers and for a photo-op overlooking the ocean. If you're looking for a place to just relax before hitting the 5 freeway after a trip to the beach, this is your place.

I'm so glad we found out about Casa Dolores before our last trip to Santa Barbara…read more I was scrolling through the events calendar to plan our trip and that's how I found out about Casa Dolores and the cool altar they had on display for Dias de los Muertos (it was on display for more than a week!). I was surprised I didn't find out about Casa Dolores during our previous visits to Santa Barbara, but it's always nice to discover a new place to visit in a town you've seen a lot of other attractions before. Casa Dolores is a small museum that focuses on Mexican Folk Art. It's situated in the downtown area, just minutes away from State Street, tucked away on Bath St. You can walk from State street, take Figueroa down and turn left on Bath. Casa Dolores is located in a small, old adobe house, nicely renovated. It has a cute courtyard in the back, so check it out. On the main level they host temporary exhibits (we loved their "Art Made out of Tin" exhibit they have on display right now). Upstairs, they have their permanent collection, very nice pottery from Oaxaca and other places in Mexico, and other interesting folk art. If you're in the area and you're looking for a nice activity to do for half an hour- an hour in the downtown SB, Casa Dolores is a cute place to visit. It could be a great break from all the hustle and bustle of the shopping area. The museum is a quiet and relaxing place to get away from it all. We enjoyed our visit, the Mexican folk art on display, their Dias de los Muertos altar (great idea). The staff couldn't be nicer, too bad I didn't get the name of the young lady that works there that showed us around, gave us information about the place, the art on display, she couldn't be nicer, we enjoyed our chat with her. Also, there's no fee to visit the museum. It's open Tuesdays through Saturdays, Noon-4pm. Check out their site for more info. We'd like to go back on our next visit to Santa Barbara and check out their future temporary exhibit.

I didn't catch his name, but as soon as I walked in, he guided me to the front desk to pay for my insurance, which was five bucks. Sam, The girl working at front desk was not very friendly, no welcoming and didn't really tell me much about the exhibit. Nor about the other extra Natalie Wood small gallery in the back. I was told by Scott who was sitting by bench next to her who was nice and friendly and if it wasn't for him I'd missed this gallery. She needs to be replaced with someone more bubbly or with a more a positive attitude energy. This is my second time visiting the museum and it's always a pleasure walking and enjoying new and different exhibits. It's a beautiful ambience, very welcoming and peaceful.

This is a reconstruction of an historic Chumash village. We attended for a field trip in March…read more2023. It originally had at least 10 Chumash "Aps", the single room huts. The years have not been kind to those huts. Some were lost to the Woolsey Fire, one collapsed. We were told not to go into the remaining one which was still standing. Apparently the drought had made it hard to harvest the willow used for Ap structures. For a field trip, this is disappointing. The central meeting structure is still intact, and a Chumash leader gave a 20 minute talk on the tribe, it's beliefs, and conservation. He is very active in conservation and restoration. They had built a fire for the group and despite the open sides and hole above the fireplace, it was smoky during the talk. There was a slide show about the nearby ocean in a classroom setting. It was a beautiful day, and sitting in chairs looking at a screen seemed out of place. The presentation was fine. This could be a much better trip if new Aps were constructed. It seems like there would be many people willing to help.

In my three decades of being alive I've come to realize that there are very few places on Earth…read morethat come remotely close to places like this. A hub of the Wishtoyo Chumash community, this village is like a beautiful time capsule of native California. The only thing that surpasses the physical beauty of the Pacific vista, night skies, authentic structures or landscape, is the emotional beauty of how welcoming and loving the people who make up this community are. Special public events once in awhile otherwise contact them to set up a special time to visit. Either passing through or looking for an adventure out of Greater LA, make sure to visit this "home for all of humanity".
