In Ellensburg, you have limited choices for shopping, unless you want to drive 40+ minutes to Yakima. This is a college town, so Freddy's is a lifesaver for many students. They have clothing and housewares along their full supermarket of groceries. I suppose they owned the 'superstore' moniker before Walmart ever did. Prices are generally reasonable. Amazon.com delivers quicker and for less oh and at advertised price. Freshman check in was today. Went with son to get a few things. Fred Meyers claimed 15% off for certain things. Picked up some dorm essentials like hangers. Cashier didn't know about deal, brought out another person who showed a flyer about the party and claimed no discount. They tried to force me to just pay full price as people were waiting. Third person (a lead in gardening) actually read the sign and told the other employees to give the discount. 7 minutes later still "looking" for the code and I left. looove this store. i live in cle elum and i hate our store here safeway! so i always make a trip to a half hour away to go to freddy's! the only thing i don't like is on weekends and holidays they NEVER have anything left in the deli. which I can see why because they have such good food everybody wants it, but would be still great if they could make more which they usually don't after a certain time which is understandable. but it is their job to stock up, which they don't have very good stocking on weekends either or holidays, but that's understandable. Fred Meyer is the worst store in town. They card everyone when purchasing alcohol. I am very far past 21 and they carded me when I bought cough syrup. My husband and I went in on a Saturday and there were only 2 check stands open. I when I asked why I was told corporate would only allow them to schedule 4 people. Two were in self check out and 2 were in customer check outs. This is a classic example of putting profits before customer service. At least we have a few other choices in town. I prefer Super One. I know they are a bit more expensive, but their service is much better. And the store has fresher produce and better meats then Fred Meyer. read more

I brought my diamond studs in to have stem replaced .The stud is 18 kt. When I got them back I noticed the one stem that was replaced was not 18 it gold.Not sure what they used but my ear now gets enflamed when I wear the stud that Fred Meyers repaired.So,now I need to spend more $ to have another (more reputable) jewelry store replaced the stem.My mistake thinking Fred Meyers would use the same gold the rest of the year ring was made out of.Really disappointed. read more

This FM had everything we needed on our girls trip to the Gorge. When we realized we were too old to sleep on little sleeping pads and needed simple air mattresses FM was there for us. They also had everything from additional coolers, fresh fruit, snacks, clear stadium bags, and cute clothes! One of the girls was visiting from Nevada and had never experienced a FM before. She was immediately a huge fan after just a few minutes inside. The only weird thing about this location was the lady working at customer service. She was ice cold to me but when she learned our friend was from Nevada she was all of a sudden super nice to my friend and then sort of warmed up to me. It was definitely odd and I'm not sure what that was about. Regardless we will be making future trips on I-90 and will stop at this FM location to get all snacks and necessary items in the future - it is so conveniently located! read more

The good: - Quality of materials is great and staff will often markdown prices if not. Customer service keeps it simple and could use some improvements, as noted below, but overall does a great job. - Staff in most departments are super accommodating, efficient, and willing to help. - Great gas prices if you're a rewards member. - Fairly good deals throughout the store. They definitely try to catch you with "two for $X" deals without the requirement to buy two to receive that price. However, sale prices are usually so cheap you'll barely notice. The not-so good: - Their cashiers and baggers are often under-trained and rushed. I've seen eggs put in the bottom of bags on a few occasions and always by different staff. - The customer service desk staff are constantly on their phones. While I don't normally care for this as long as it's minimal, it's constant. Essentially until you walk up to the desk, they will be on their phones and short with you if your request isn't simple. Overall, they're very great and efficient, so this improvement would just make their service phenomenal. - Products are often mislabeled, making it difficult to determine the price without a price checker (there are two throughout the store, to the best of my knowledge). However, this is a very minor issue, as staff will often adjust the price within certain parameters. - A number of their staff simply do not wear their mask properly. There are a few produce staff who consistently wear their masks below their noses while working directly with raw foods. Staff of various other departments do this as well, but I've only seen produce doing this consistently. - Management/staff do not require that customers wear a mask or seem to care about occupancy regulations. There have been multiple occasions where I entered the store, saw 5+ customers not wearing a mask near the entrance, and left. If you are immuno-compromised or otherwise at-risk, I do not recommend stepping foot in this store. Once the pandemic is over, it'll be a great place to shop! read more

I realized I have to give this store a five star simply based on how much I go there. They are super progressive. Great natural food section and organics. For the most part it is about as much of a one stop shop as you can get. Everything is there including banking, Redbox, pharmacy, clothing, electronic, and garden. Tons of parking. Now they are even doing a major remodel. As good as this place is I think it is important to also share some business with smaller locals that specialize. Go out of your way to do that. Also. What is it with these people who are so lame they can't get their shopping cart to a corral? Please people. Dont' be so pathetic. We want these businesses to serve us. Honor their efforts by helping them out. Take your shopping cart to the proper place. And don't just stuff it in there. Align it with the other carts so the next person's will go in nicely. Update 3/26/16 Dinner Meal deal discontinued :( This is probably the best grocery store in Ellensburg. It's definitely better than Safeway and Super 1 in selection and prices. The only downside being it's not right by the university. Produce and deli are good. I get the $6 dinner w/ 2 sides when I'm in a hurry. I wish they had free range chicken and Mueller's yogurt. People are friendly. I find it one of the top three highest priced grocery stores in town. Don't usually do all my shopping here as I find I can get it cheaper at a few of the other stores in town. The selection is okay, and the fact I can by plants while I am grocery shopping could be beneficial. They always have the hard to find item when looking for gifts, but expect to pay a bit more then else. I've never purchased meats here as I always get sticker shock. read more

Wow. This place is filthy. The isles are cluttered, shelves are empty and very dirty. Cashiers are downright rude. I never need to return.

This store has problems. If it wasn't the only one-stop shop place in town, I probably wouldn't be shopping here. A lot of times I'm there it's dirty, smells bad & is not well organized. Produce is usually terrible & their shelves are not well stocked, or they're stocking the shelves during business hours, making huge blockades you can't maneuver your cart around. Stocking shelves should be done when the store is closed. Also, their pharmacy sucks. The last 5-6 times we've gone to pick up a prescription with ample notice, it hasn't been ready. Full disclosure: I have grown to loath big-box stores and hypermarkets. Every time I go to FM for something specific, I end up wandering for miles thru house plants, liquor, garden equipment, fruit, pet food, wine, towels and so on until I get frustrated enough to seek out help to find what I'm looking for. Great, they have 17 kinds of canned corn but it's a chore to shop for anything. Well done megastores. Ebrg still has some smaller chains like RiteAid, local businesses like Better Life and employee owned options like BiMart; and what's crazy is that most of these options have better pricing if you care to look. I like Fred Meyer (Kroger) they are usually well-stocked have almost everything I need on a grocery expedition except for on a few occasions. This location however had some of the most unhelpful management I have encountered at a Freddy's. They couldn't care less that they weren't able to help and weren't eager to find a solution. When I reminded them of their power to make it right they simply shrugged. I honestly don't understand the horrible reviews this Fred Meyer's has received. They've got all you need and really all you could want available. Fresh fruit, ingredients in bulk, a deli, bakery, a Fred Meyer Jeweler's, electronic section, grocery, home goods, clothing and home & garden. My husband actually purchased my wedding ring from Fred Meyer Jeweler's at a great price and a life time warranty. The ladies in jewelery have always taken care of us. My little brother goes to CWU and he informed this is about as good as it gets around Ellensburg. We stopped by here to pick some stuff up for his new house. Although they are a bit behind in times (what Fred Meyer isn't?) they still carried the basics. He found some decent sheets, waste basket, soap, all that kind of stuff. Needed some winter boots and they had a pretty good selection of nice boots, moderate to expensive but nothing cheap. Typical Fred Meyer, pretty new. The gas station is a couple blocks down, The gas station will accommodate RV's ok. Now, this Fred Meyer is pretty busy. I was there on a Wednesday afternoon and parking lot was FULL! If the parking lot is not busy, can get an RV in here, but, be careful of some "humps" you might have to drive over. Disclaimer: We like Fred Meyer (Ellensburg) and do all of our grocery shopping there, in addition to some clothing and electronics. We go to FM at least twice per week. The problem: FM has a fairly serious problem with overcharging customers. That is, the price you see marked is, with rather alarming frequency, less than the price you will actually be charged at check out. It is understandable that once in a while this might hapen. BUT, my wife was overcharged at least EIGHT times (that is, during eight separate shopping trips) during July-August 2012. In that same time she was undercharged ONE TIME. It is curious how the incorrect pricing falls nearly always in the favor of FM! Check your receipt carefully! UPDATED 12 / 31 / 2012: Mt wife and I shopped this morning. We bought about twelve items and were overcharged for two of them!! Very irritating! UPDATED: 2/3/2013 I bought about six items this morning. What I noticed the most was the layout of this Fred Meyer's, is EXACTLY the same as the one in Thrasher's Corner! It flipped my mind! I kept feeling sooo much de ja vu, cause it is exactly the same!! It is basically something that happens EVERY time my wife and I visit the store, unfortunately. I really want to like this store, but the chronic overcharging is forcing me to shop elsewhere. On 8/19/2013 occurred my latest overcharge. I purchased a 12-pack of New Belgium ale, on sale for $12.99. I was charged $14.99. As I realized this walking out the door, I headed back to customer service only to face the prospect of waiting 15 minutes in line to receive the $2 the store owed me.
