This is quite the spot located just down the street from Central Washington University. It's an old school looking market that specializes in beer, and I mean tons of beer! They've also got a good selection of ciders and wines, however you're definitely going to want to come here for the beer selection. About 75% of the store is lined with coolers that have more beers than you could shake a stick at. Everything from the run-of-the-mill bud light all the way down to stouts aged in tequila barrels on extremely limited release. I was keyed into this place when a buddy asked me to pick up some new stuff from the brewery over in Seattle and I ended up walking out with a couple bottles for myself as well. Well I didn't stop there, there appeared to be a bar in the corner where they had plenty of options for your inebriating delight! Contrary to what many of the other reviews have mentioned, I found the guys working here to be helpful and very nice. A+ All said and done, this place is on par with just about any solid beer shop that I've been in. Great selection of local stuff, and immense selection of non-local stuff, and just about every variety you can think of. Do not get the boba! It's the worst boba I've ever had. In the past it was good but it's terrible

So I'm happy that they are one of the only places I can get Korean snacks around here, but when I asked my boyfriend today to grab me some peanut cookie snacks (Matongsan), one of my favorite snacks, it was 8 months past it's expiry date (I opened it and it is indeed rancid, which sucks because I really was craving these) and he didn't check before bringing it home. This isn't the first time this has happened with this exact snack at this store, but there have been times they were within expiry date. Please, just rotate your stock! read more

West side boba drinkers: the process on how they make their boba is exactly like hardwok cafe in seattle. black tea based, powder flavoring, non-dairy creamer. I am an avid boba drinker, I will travel often to the west side to grab boba from my favorite boba shops in Chinatown and I have to say this is the best boba in central Washington. *I've tried all the boba places in yakima and this still cannot be beat. Things to know: -They use a non-dairy creamer -Price ranges around $5-6 per drink (additional for the toppings) -Taro, Coconut, and Honeydew are my top #3 flavors -They close at 7pm and boba runs out before then -Try the Taro Custard if you like Taro -Pomegranate Milk Tea is actually incredibly refreshing -The Jasmine Green Milk Tea is not your average Jasmine Milk Tea The boba is good for being in central Washington, but the price is inflated because of the niche market here in the area. I don't personally believe that it is worth around $6 a cup, but because of the quality and convenience, you can see me grabbing a cup twice a week. My go-to drink: Taro Milk Tea OR Honeydew Milk Tea with Boba and Taro Custard. Stopped on our way from Seattle to Spokane specifically for breakfast burritos and bubble tea -- both getting good Yelp reviews. The breakfast burritos were gone -- it was mid morning. Then I went to order boba tea. I'm used to ordering half the sweetener but was told their milk tea was very sweet and the couldn't change it. I decided to try anyway and ordered milk tea with tapioca pearls. I was told they were out of tapioca pearls. Meanwhile they had huge signs inside and outside the market for bubble tea. Note for everybody: This store is getting rid of their tap machine this month. The beer selection in cans and bottles is still very impressive, but sadly they are getting rid of the 20+ taps of beer. Guess my growler will have to be used at the local breweries next time. New beer selections are plentiful around this store however - including Florida's Cigar City, Paradise Creek from Pullman, and several international breweries including Baltika and Erdinger. Just remember to look at the prices and make sure they will ring up the same. read more

Always verify the price of everything you purchase. Owner raises prices on the system without updating on the shelves and will charge you the higher price each time. Staff changes too constantly for anyone to get good at their jobs and manager hovers during transactions, making me uncomfortable. Just generally a weird vibe about the place. Get your Mocha Death at the actual Iron Horse Pub where the service is friendly and there are no rude, looking managers. read more

I cannot believe how rudely I was treated!! They have a great selection of wine and beer but the woman who works there made me feel belittled and small. I was looking at wines for an assignment as well as browsing hoping to purchase a bottle or two. The woman approached me, asked what I was doing with my notebook and began to rant as to how inappropriate it was that I not provide a syllabus and consult her as to why I was there (even though I was there to actually purchase wine as well). After profusely apologizing and assuring her that it would not happen again, she frowned and walked away waving her hand as if "shooing" me away. I visited from way out of town and wanted to find a good local bottle shop. A friend told me about this place. For a small town, I was rather impressed with their beer selection. It's not Total Wine or BevMo by a long shot, but for a small convenience store, they had a pretty good selection of eastern WA beer. I saw a LOT of breweries in there that I knew about, but I don't think have much of a distribution outside their local area. I saw Icicle, Ten Pin (never heard of them until now), Yakima Craft, and both of us found beers we had never seen before. A BIG score for me was finding Iron Horse Farmlandia (love this!). Total Wine is out of stock for the season. They had a number of bottles and I almost bought them out. They also have a OK wine selection, snacks, and deli food. I didn't pay attention to any of it because I wasn't interested. Love the small bar! Around 15 taps (didn't count them), all craft beer (no domestic crap), and you can sit for a while and sample beers or have a few pints. Prices are pretty average. I know the prices pretty well for being a regular customer at Total Wine, and their beer prices were about the same. First time in I met the owners. Both are fine, but the man is very quiet and reserved. Nobody was rude. They were happy to help and answered our questions. I went back later in the day and was helped by 2 younger ladies. No problems with anybody. Overall, good beer selection for a small town out in the middle of nowhere. I really like the fact they carry so many beers that I just don't see in most other places. read more

This place was a complete, and pleasant, surprise. I'd been looking to find sources for my two favorite beers. One is from Bayern, a small micro-brewery in Missoula Montana. The other is a dark beer from a brewer in Germany. With some effort, I was able to find a source in Seattle and in Spokane. (They aren't commonly found in these bigger cities, either.) But, I wanted to find a place in central Washington to buy these beers since I am often in that area. No luck. I searched more than a dozen various stores in Wenatchee, Moses Lake, etc, etc and couldn't find these beers . . . until I discovered Happy's in Ellensburg. I was skeptical when I pulled up to the place - it doesn't look like all that much. But, the selection of beers inside is fantastic. (Lots of wine too, but I'm more of a beer guy.) If you like more than the domestic big brewer stuff that they call 'beer' (check out the foodbabe to see what that stuff really is) or the usual micro-brewery stuff that's in all the stores around WA state, check out Happy's. They have my two favorite beers and I'll definitely be making regular trips to restock. P.S. - they're nice people too. I always enjoy going into this store, and seeing either a new beer on tap, or a cold six pack in the refrigerated section! The selection is sizable with anything that will agree with your palate. The staff is always friendly and helpful, but endlessly enthusiastic when recommending or being recommended a new beer to try! Always be on the lookout for something good, because the next day it might be out of stock! Amazing service from both the employees and the owners. The wine selection was good, but the beer selection was amazing. On Fridays they make an excellent teriyaki meal. They also make a delicious teriyaki sandwich that goes perfectly with any of the beers on tap. This is the best combination of convenience store and market. She had her notebook open, but hadn't started writing anything down when a woman, whom we could only assume was the owner, came over and accosted my friend for "not consulting or presenting a syllabus" before she started taking notes.
