I've never reviewed a grocery store, let alone a floral department within a grocery store and never thought I would. HOWEVER, the FLORAL DEPT in this Safeway deserves a review. We often stop by this Safeway when driving through Cle Elum. We've done so for many years. And, we've continually noticed over the last several years that their floral department is AMAZING. My wife has been into flower arranging for decades. We've been into flower gardening for at least that long, as well. I wouldn't call either of us experts, but we have learned a thing or two over the years. And, we've visited many florists, flower shops, and even floral departments like this over the years. How this floral dept in a small town in central Washington manages to obtain the high quality flowers they have at the prices to support the prices that they charge is amazing to us. Not only do the arrangements use very beautiful, perfect or near perfect fresh flowers, but even the cut flowers are in absolutely excellent condition. They must be very selective in what they buy and then in what actually gets put on the floor. Whomever is managing and doing the work/floral arranging at this floral department has an excellent eye and a lot of talent. The arrangements are beautiful and very well priced for their level of quality and artistic talent. Bravo! We live in a much, much larger city and this little floral department would compete with any shop in our area -- and, often would be our preferred choice if located here. I'm a 64 year old retired banker. I'm visiting Ellensburg today. I went into Safeway today on my Ninebot Segway Scooter to buy some Korean Beef for lunch when the assistant manager came up to me and told me I had to take my scooter and leave the store. She said she was protecting the safety of her customers. After I left the store, I called the store to get the assistant managers name and was told it was Candace. When I asked for the last name, I was told I could not have it and was hung up on- this is absolutely unbelievable. I have been in Safeways from Bremerton to Boise- Fred Meyers from Seattle to Spokane and a million other independents with my scooter and never ever was asked to stop riding it let alone asked to leave the store with my scooter. After leaving the store, a patron, Chelsea, stopped me out on the sidewalk and asked if she could go get me something from the deli- she said she witnessed the Ill-presented and overbearing "booting" that I had just received and really couldn't believe it herself. She again offered to go in and get me something for lunch, I said that Korean Beef was on the menu today and that I would really appreciate it. I gave her some cash and she went in and bought the Korean beef and came out and told me that while she was in there she saw a person with a scooter- just like mine- being served at the deli counter where I was just accosted by the obviously nervous, incompetent and homely Assistant Manager. (See Pic) I don't think it was Candace- I think Candace was covering for the assistant manager by not giving me the correct name - Kimberly, comes to mind but I'm not sure. My point being that as a senior citizen using a mobility assistance device, my scooter, which is not much different than the electric chairs some of my contemporaries use, I feel that she is being arbitrary about who gets access to this store and who doesn't. Disappointed, as a Safeway employee, I trust certain things because I buy them frequently at multiple stores. We bought some deli food as a quick pick me up on our way to Thanksgiving dinner in Seattle from north of Spokane. Their egg salad sandwiches were basically just egg and lettuce, no salt, no mustard, no flavor. I got an avocado california roll tray, which, I know is a frozen and thawed product, but it was completely dry, and hard as a rock. Will not be returning. She took the time to special order flowers and build a beautiful spray and also decor for our grandmother and aunt's graves. Today I went in to get their Signature Farms ground beef. It is advertised as a digital deal for $2.97/lb. Even the sign above it said $2.97/lb. It also said the package was $11.97, but I figured that was the sale price and the digital deal got you down to the $2.97/lb. Well, it rang up at $11.97 for the package. I went over to customer service to ask about it and was told I got what it said $11.97. I am sorry, but 3 lbs of meat at $2.97/lb is just less than $9, not $12. This is very bad advertising and I should have been reimbursed for the difference. I am sure I am not the first person to notice and complain. Signage should have been changed. read more

I agree completely with Emily V.; you guys must all be from out of town if you think this Safeway is below par for the area. This store is a whole lot better than the Safeway in Cle Elum and you really can't get much better within a 100 mile radius. This Safeway has a pharmacy, deli, bakery and floral shop. Everything is well laid out and anything you need can be found easily. I've never had a problem with their customer service and I have consistently been treated with respect when I come in. TIP: This may sound weird, but their almond poppyseed muffins cannot be beat. You can find them in the bakery section next to their donuts. read more

Their bakery cakes are delicious and far better than fred Meyer,although they sorely could use a cake decorator as the curreny one is lacking on batman in particular . They are the only ones I let bake for all my special occasions In fact I had the deli and bakery handle my daughter's wedding . Bakery did mess up the colors on the cake but we overlooked it . This is only a review for deli... I only ever get one thing in the deli. A tender chicken bacon ranch wrap... I have never seen one thing cooked so many different ways. I never know how they will cook it that day, until they do. Which is awkward for me, because I can never tell them I don't like my veggies cooked, so I will sometimes end up with a hot tomatoes and soggy/warm lettuce. Not a fan of that. I prefer when they cook the meats and cheese separately, then add it to the tortilla with the other ingredients... maybe I'm just too picky, idk. But some consistency would be nice. read more

I've mostly enjoyed the customer service I've gotten from our local Safeway, especially from a sweet lady in the deli who used to go around with samples (Anny?). Today, on my way into the store, there were two Safeway employees outside smoking and talking trash about a coworker. Classy. The other customer walking in with me looked at me and both our jaws dropped. I told the cashier about this run-in and she seemed shocked to hear it. Those workers should be absolutely ashamed of themselves. You never know when a customer walking in will know who you're gossiping about, and may even be friends with or related to. It's a small town, kiddos. Safeway, as a store, has always been phenomenal in quality products and cheerful service. Without fail, no matter what day of the week or what time of day, you can usually count on just ONE regular checkout lane open and maybe two express lanes open (15-20 items or less) I like to go late at night, so the wait isn't as bad, (because they will always have the same 2 or 3 lanes open) I shop there once a week and I buy a full week's worth of groceries, so my only choice is to wait on the single regular checkout lane. I have a bad back and standing in line (especially after lifting heavy items into my cart) makes my pain level go to about an 8 or 9. The longer I have to stand in line, the worse the pain gets. By the time I get to the checkout, I'm hunched over the cart in pain. And then to make matters worse, there's no bagger to help put my groceries in the cart. The cashier won't do it, they'll just leave the groceries sitting on the counter after they scanned them. One time I had to lift a big container of water and since my back was hurting so bad, I could hardly lift it. I accidentally knocked it into the coin change dispenser, and the cashier practically scolded me saying, "Be careful with that!" I've asked to speak to the manager more than once when I my wait time was over 10 minutes on the only regular checkout lane open. This was around 5:00 pm on a Saturday, a very busy time. I was pretty much dismissed out of hand, and was told "I'm sorry sir, we are understaffed". And yet I saw at least 6 or 7 employees (including managers) stocking shelves, collecting carts, or just walking around. Surely at least ONE of them could take a few minutes and help checkout the people in line, that stretched almost 1/4 way down one of the aisles! It's a very rare occasion that I'll actually see them open a second full service checkout lane. Most of the time they'll just open another express lane, which doesn't help me at all. All the other grocery stores in town, Fred Meyer, Super One, Grocery Outlet, always have enough checkout lanes open. The only reasons I stay with Safeway is because it's closest to me and has the best selections. But if I have to spend another 10 to 15 minute wait in line, I'm going to start taking my business elsewhere. read more

This store has way higher prices and there is always a long line and I never get exact change they are cheap I went in the the other day for a gallon of water (which cost to much) and my change back should have been $8.01 and the dumb kid gave me $8.00 and I never got a penny back and there stuff is in awkward places this is why I rate the store 2 out of 5 read more

my husband and I were so close to just going to customer service over an employee today 13:10-13:23@UScan that had made it rather obvious she was going out of her way to NOT help, she walked up to the kiosk next to us, no one was at (the lady left too from WAITING we watched) and then walked over to customer service herself talked and laughed and then knowing we still weren't helped walked over to the other side of the kiosks, by then my husband was concerned and said,"EXCUSE me Ma'am?" and she completely ignores him then I said,"ma'am?!"(the regular lane on end watched this happen while helping her customers) we did get her name and feel like by posting the time they can review the footage, we ended up moving kiosk all together by the time she decided to even address us in general about helping us cause she completely walked off when she was standing a foot from us is after had waited about 5 minutes beforehand we and others around feel like she handled the situation very poorly with no customer service skills or people skills just feel like she wastes company time by making people walk out like woman before us and instead of helping them have them wait so long the re ring all there stuff. read more

My son was doing his homework at this Safeway (his sitting at the table while he was eating the food which he paid before he sat there from the stores deli) when a manager approached him asking for his receipt and that he is not allowed to be staying there without buying anything from Safeway ( while there's a couple of Caucasian his age! loitering and obviously did not buy anything at Safeway!) so is this because my son is Asian so he need a receipt to eat and do his homework there or what is it!!! I need explanation because I never heard of this policy ( my family have been shopping at Safeway for more than 16yrs!!!) that you have to have the receipt of food that you already paid from the deli so you can eat it at the table that Safeway provided so you can choose to eat there at that table and where O where is the sign that you cannot do your homework while your eating the food you bought from the Safeway deli!!! ????? read more

I like Safeway for some of the things that are difficult to find in town, but there is always a long line at the checkout/not enough cashiers. Bagels are hit and miss--somethimes they have a lot and sometimes they have two or three. The last time I ordered chicken from the deli, I received 12 out of the16 pieces that I paid for, and of the pieces I did receive, four were wings (I ordered the sixteen-piece dark meat selection, which should be eight drumsticks and eight thighs; instead I received four wings, five drumsticks, and three thighs, all of which were so dry that only 2/3 of each were edible). read more

I moved to ellensburg a few years ago and everyone at this Safeway is very friendly and helpful, it's a clean well stocked store. My issue is that the hot foods deli is the worse I have ever been to and I LOVE Safeway delifood.. I don't know if it's who manages that part or what but something needs to be changed.. lunch and dinner hours should obviously be a time when there should be FRESH and larger amounts of huge sellers NOPE hardly ever the case. It seems like noone even keeps track of what the popular items are so they can make sure to stay stocked.. I have tried to talk to them and ask when the good times are to try and get the products I keep going for and they just shrug.. ibask why lunch and dinner isn't ever fresh stuff and they shrug.. it's obviously an issue of someone needing to manage and figure out that one area because the rest of the store is great.. I just decided to finally express this online because I have company in town who stopped at the Safeway deli to get dinner on his way over(normally I warn people about the deli here) he ended up having to throw the whole Chinese food meal away, noodles and meats were awful.. So, yesterday I was in class for 8 hours and starving by the time I was done. I decided to make some sort of an effort to make my own salad instead of wasting my money and buying one like I usually do. I went to Safeway grabbed a bag of romaine lettuce, the essentials, turkey, tomatoes, avocado, etc. Raced home to make it because I thought I was going to die if I didn't eat. Get home, make my salad but was distracted because I was talking to my roommate- first mistake. Sit down, start eating probably way too fast. Continuing to talk to my roommate while I'm eating and then I look down and see this black thing sticking out under a piece of lettuce. I look harder and move it with my fork, and it turns out to be A ENORMOUS DEAD FLY, AHHH! Sick! I am so grossed out that I feel like throwing up, no longer have an appetite and my roommate thinks it's the funniest thing ever. So, I am still bitter about this and I guess it's really the company who makes that bagged lettuce fault but I have to blame it on someone. BOO Safeway! read more
