I HATE, HATE, HATE THIS STORE! Ever since Kroger took over "Fred Meyer" the store has gone down in customer service, quality, and selection. I tried to buy a 1lb. package of sugar the other day and they didn't have it. I tried to buy kitchen matches the other day and they didn't have them. They spent millions of dollars recently to do a completely unnecessary "remodel" of the store and created a complete mess. Now they are trying to cut jobs so they have eliminated the 12 items or under check stands and replaced them with these obnoxious U-SCAN. Well Freddy Kroger U know what U can do with U-SCAN!! If I have to do all the work to check myself out I want a hefty discount. And, Oh, by the way, their prices are much higher now. AVOID THIS STORE! THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT THE NEEDS OF THE CUSTOMERS WHO BOTHER TO COME INTO THE STORE. And, I have one more thing to add. This store employs one of the nastiest and most hateful checkers I have ever had the displeasure to deal with. I've been using this one for a long time, it's great! The cheese selection is the best around, and the cheese people are always the friendliest. The only reason I am giving it 3 stars is basically because their key cutting department is terrible. I've had about 3 or 4 keys made and they never work, and the people are always grumpy doing them. The last key I had made will not work in my door and I was locked out of my house. Just a nuisance, not a huge deal or anything. But every time I seem to ask for help the people seem inconvenienced and it's a little discouraging. Other than that, it's a fantastic place! read more

This is the best Fred Meyer in town. The best selection. The cleanest, brightest aisles. The broadest selection of housewares. The freshest produce. The most hard-to-find international items. And genuinely nice, helpful employees. The location is somewhat odd, tucked between some one-way and dead-end streets near the Banfield, but the entrance is easy to find and this is by far the easiest, sanest parking area to enter and exit of not just all Freddies in town, but also of the New Seasons, Safeways, QFCs, and Trader Joe's I've been to. I have shopped at the Newport Fred Meyer's since it opened. They have kept my business by always having the best prices, and food quality. As a person who is very conscious about eating healthy, they have THE best selection of healthy, organic foods. The customer service has also been great and consistent over the years. This location has been my grocery store of choice for 3yrs. I shop here every tuesday consistantly. I get what I need with good service and awesome experiance. I always seek out an older lady named Lori to do my check out. She is kind and personable and makes the experiance great for me. Always awesome. The only negative thing I have to say is that when Lori was checking me out today her boss was bagging for her and the whole time was critical and grumpy and not nice to Lori. She was an older woman with glasses. I wish I had got her name. She was wearing a flower shirt. She was being bossy while at the same time completely failing at bagging well. She used so many bags and was in no way quick at the job. I brought two of my own bags and she barely put anything in them. Maybe she could spend a little less time criticizing the cashier and a lot more time brushing up on the jobs her employees do. Be a leader. Not a boss lady. read more

They say BIG in a city is bad element and this Hollywood Fred Meyer is anything....... But, the stars quality it bears and is further from any truth. Yes its the biggest one in Portland but, lacks to its merit vastly! The deli employees prefer to talk on the job and be an ignorance to the customers who await their assistance. When they actually cut the deli meat any human would not serve such to a dog or any animal. They are careless and it looks like the meat took a beating in packaging. Its like a pile of manur waiting and its grotesque. When you speak to Tony as a managerial omen he just makes um and ahuh noises yeses you to death and inforns you he will talk and train them mode. This is not any grade to supervisional because employees in such designations and or sectors should already be knowledged and properly trained to begin with!!!!! I will post pictures of my deli meat of Boars Head to define and back up my REAL review!!! This Tony supposed manager on floor did not even out of curiousity say please send me pictures of complaint product!!!!! But, Tony would not like to buy any boars head high quality meat and have a pile of defecate like product and pay the steep BH price!!!! This foremost because this Tony wannabee supervisor his pocket would be paying its bill and such product disgrace! Cleaniness is a vast need too and the people other than friendly......especially at 9pm at nite.....this FM is a degrade to its entity and its customers! I love Fred Meyers. Favorite grocery store ever, so it sucks I have to give a one star for customer service. I didn't know how to look up a particular item without a code -- and asked for help from the customer rep for self check out by the garden. She said it's on the back of your folder (that I was trying to buy); I showed her the back, which had nothing on it. I said I tried putting in the number that was on the folder into the form, but it didn't work. She then said "you're on the wrong page" like I am an idiot. I said that's why I asked for help, how could I know that I was on wrong page? She said I didn't say you should know, but that you were and I said okay but I am just asking for your help here. She then walked away before I had even gotten to where I thought she meant and I said excuse me, can you tell me what to do next? She was not pleased. When we left I made a point to say thank you, twice bc she was so annoyed about having to help me I wanted to say hey thank you for helping anyway, but she ignored me, which that's totally within her right, but just bad customer service. We, sadly, will not be back to this Fred Meyers again :( read more

*This is an employee review* I am/was an employee for Fred Meyers Clicklist. Multiple times I've brought up work related issues and concerns all of which have been ignored. They preach a fair and stress free work environment, yet it couldn't be further from the truth. As someone who values respect, equality, and a passion to truly take care of others, you will sadly find none of these values as an employee of this corporation. Multiple attempts at contacting HR about my issues have proven pointless as the head of HR likes to over talk you and belittle you in anyway she finds fit. I have since contacted the union Kroger and other organizations to help fix these issues for my fellow coworkers as well as any new hires looking for a job or career. I cannot and will not work for a job that does not value my voice, my ethics, my hard work, or even pretend to listen to legitimate issues within the organization. Been going to this store most of my life, they have almost everything. clothes, food, fresh, frozen, deli, tools, makeup, books, electronics, housewares, etc they are even starting to expand their new 'natural foods' section which is like a mini whole foods inside fred meyers. and not quite as legit. You wanna know why I'm giving this Freddies three stars? Because that's how many friggin' different places they have coffee! You have bulk, organic or whatever in one location and then the regular stuff in another place and then some more in another location still. The same thing goes for cereal, bread and who knows what else? Oh, I do: half & half isn't with the dairy products anymore, it's in the creamer section or something. Look, it's not rocket science. Put ALL of the same kind of product in the same damn place. Use different color shelving or labels or codes or some other kind of easily identifiable way to indicate what's organic or not or local or whatever in that consistent location but, for God's sake, don't scatter it all over the damn store. Having a "healthy" or "organic" section of the store used to be an anomaly since most people eat the corporate sponsored poison on the shelves but now days even obese Coke guzzlers at least know there's such a thing as organic or healthy food so just blend all the products together! Oh, and while you're at it (or instead since you won't ever be sensible and take my suggestion above), why not put some kind of kiosks around the store with touch screens so I can type in "coffee" and have it show me which aisles I can find it (since I can rarely seem to find an employee to ask) and which aisle has the bulk or organic or whatever I'm looking for. Again, not rocket science but you can still be smart about your customer experience. read more

I like the store, more or less, but HATE the pharmacy. The store itself has decent selection as well as the convenience of many non-food items. The clothing are pretty awful imo but no harm done. The pharmacy staff are disorganized and only care about getting paid. They make feeble attempts (if at all) to get insurance coverage and will not hesitate to ask for huge amounts of money without any thought as to the actual person in need of medication. They may call and tell you something is ready only for you to arrive and find out it's not or they have done diddly re your insurance. I've had to wait upwards of an hour there while they figured out their sh!t. Some of them are rude as well. Safeway pharm has never treated me like that. read more

I was appalled that they locked the doors to the West end of the store sometime between 8 and 815. This is a clear danger to customers who entered through that end in case of fire. I called and expressed my concern and it was shrugged off. They can do it legally so they did and go heck with the safety and peace of mind if the customers who have shopped in that store since it was opened. read more

It's become comical how bad this store has gotten. It's almost funny. Ridiculous like a funny movie where you're just like "WTF". It's really hard to hunt down anyone for questions and when you find someone they always say "sorry this isn't my department". Then they just walk away. They don't call anyone. Last time I was there I was looking for a specific light bulb and 4 people in a row said that same thing. I'm rarely rude but by the 4th person I got kind of pissy and said something to the effect of "then can you call someone who is and have them help me" and they did. Today I called and got the wrong department so they transferred me. When I got transferred the person on the other line said, "yes we do but that's in the sports section, do you want me to transfer you". They transferred me to 3 different people, all wrong departments. Then I ended up waiting on hold for 5 minutes before I hung up. It's practically a large nicer looking Right Aid with a bunch of bums working at it. I've been going here my whole life, but not anymore. I had to write because today I was reminded to stick with the Hollywood store. Crazy busy. I was shuffled into a 12-item line by a manager. I had about 25 items. The people who walked up behind me just after that smirked and began to openly criticize my apparent violation. I apologized to Sherri, the cashier, who quickly assured me that is what they do and cheerily told me not to worry about it. She was FAST. I forgot my rewards card and it barely added a second to the transaction. The employees who work at this store know what they are doing - and they are very nice. read more

I called into the pharmacy at exactly 7:00 PM to ask the pharmacist representative if my daily anxiety prescription was filled. Normally I receive a call or a text message stating that my prescription is ready but did not receive one on this occasion. The pharmacy representative that I spoke to was incredibly demeaning and condescending when I asked him if my prescription was ready. He informed me that the pharmacy was just closing and I told him my situation that my prescription was lost at the wedding event I just drove 5 hours from and I needed my daily medication for my anxiety and his comment was, "If it was so important to you, why did you wait so long to call in?" I informed him that I called him as soon as I got into town and in an incredibly rude tone, he said "Well you're just going to have to wait until tomorrow. This isn't my problem." I realize that yes, it is not his problem but for a customer service representative in a chain business that I frequent weekly I expect much better service and more respect. I will no longer be filling my prescriptions through Fred Meyer pharmacy and will use another neighborhood pharmacy instead - even if it means I have to go further to receive my prescriptions, anything is better than dealing with such terrible service. Rolling a grocery cart on their pavement is bound to break eggs, bottles and other things. They need to seriously invest in upgrading their entire lot. Major remodel going on so be prepared to walk around looking for things. Good beer selection. Still better than the Interstate location. read more

the red haired "lady" in the wine dept. needs to find a different line of work. I told her about what I paid for a certain wine at Ralph's (a Kroger co.) in palm desert recently. she as much as called me a liar. so I made copies of my many receipts showing what we paid for the same wine. ran into her yesterday and she still couldn't accept that I was right. she was comparing sale price, and I was using net price. I bought a case at $ 7.19 a bottle and was happy with that. but we had been paying $5.59 per bottle at Ralph's with all of their discounts. I bought another case from Hollywood at $8.09 a bottle and was fine with that. my point is she didn't believe me and I proved it and still still couldn't accept that the "customer" was right. generally I like the great selection of wine at Hollywood but this rude behavior just isn't accecptable. lots of stores sell wine! read more

The clothing department is awful. Beeping alarms non-stop! The store is huge and confusing.

I wandered into the classic department store on a beautiful summer day. It was no special day, just another day of getting some groceries. One of the things I needed was scrap-booking materials. Unable to seek such items, I marched over to customer service. I asked where I could find scrap-booking materials and after waiting several long minutes got an answer: aisle 37. Well, I'd already been to aisle 37 and no such things existed. I alerted the man at the desk and he then told me to try aisle 61. Happy and hopeful, I continued my march on to aisle 61. Here's where things really went south. Aisle 61 does not exist. It must have just been a figment of his imagination. I looked for quite a while, jumping from aisle to aisle as they progressed from 57 to 65. Strange organization skills if you ask me. I then asked the store manager if he could help me find my supplies and all he did was put me back to the same spot as before. It seems like Fred Meyer is beginning to hire just about anyone nowadays. I must admit I'm usually fairly pleased with Fred Meyers products, but their customer service is quite a dilly of a pickle. I guess I should have started my search somewhere like Michael's anyways. I hope improvements will be made. read more

This fred meyer refuses to stock dill pickle relish. Its so weird. I've talked to them about it. They say all they can do is send an email. I believe that their hands are tied. They have no control over what they stock. Its a robot store that stocks itself based on inventory algorithms. So anyway, no dill relish. read more

Unbelievable customer service from Matthew in Home Furnishings! My friend and I were both shopping for a dining room table and both settled on the same one (not unusual for us), but they were currently out of stock. Matthew wrote us both rainchecks and told us to check back in a few days. In the next few days the table went on sale, so my friend went in to pick them up. Unfortunately, both tables were damaged. We called Matthew and he dug through the last remaining tables to help us both find replacement parts for ours. The entire experience would have been tedious and off putting, but his positive attitude and sincere willingness to help us and "get it right" completely salvaged it. I don't usually write reviews, but this experience was exceptional. read more

Robin, Debbie, and resident gemologist Elione met our needs with their expertise, patience, and enthusiasm for precious stones. I know that others have their reservations about buying jewelry from the same company as their groceries, but don't fret you will not be disappointed. In fact, Fred Meyer Jewelry is here to stay and will outlive other box named jeweled. wow...i am high risk and my daughter has been sending instacart grocery deliveries to my door from new seasons. this pandemic won't go away anytime soon and delivery fees soon add up. i did some research and found that Freddies let's you pick up for free. since i live a few blocks from Hollywood Fred Meyer and shop there frequently, i gave it a try. i was warned by a friend who lives in another city that waits are long for grocery pick up. i set up an account, was frustrated with the website which kept flipping my pick-up location to places like Twin Falls Idaho. it took several tries to get a small order put in and paid for. the next pick up times was 8 days away ! my daughter paid for yet another delivery for my more immediate needs. i showed up at the appointment time today at noon, was told they were backed up and i should go home and wait for a call. three hours later i drove back in and observed the delivery helper a) had no mask, and b) i watched him talk from less than two feet away with two men who also had no masks. i told him i would wait for my groceries, only 4 items prepaid 8 days ago. he pointed me to a spot and i sat there an hour watching shoppers and employees. i was appalled at how few people had masks of any kind, less than 25% i think. of course we know by now the masks are to keep the virus from spreading, even from asymptomatic people. i sort of view mask wearers as people who care about others. i saw one man i know to be an employee who appeared to be leaving his shift. he had a makeshift mask around his neck. the employees gathering the baskets from the parking lot had no masks. one woman loading the pick up item had a mask, another did not. i told the young man at the pick up spot that i blamed his store manager, not him. i told him he wasn't social distancing. although he was careful to stand back from my car, he had pre-pandemic distance conversation with two men who wore no masks. he got defensive and said he kept distance from me. i explained that i blamed his store manager, not him, for not instructing employees and making sure they had some covering. i think a lot of people are really confused about the purpose of masks. i blame the bad example set by president trump who continues to defy scientists and doctors. well the noon pick up appt i had waited for over a week turned out to be a 4:30 pick up because i drove in and said i am not leaving till my groceries were loaded. worried about the spread of this virus which has taken over 9600 lives including health care workers, firefighter, police and others ...i appreciate Americans' independent spirits but now is not the time ... i am disappointed that even business managers do not take this seriously read more

Freddy's on NE Broadway has the most incredible cheese department, between selection and customer service. The store, overall, provides great sale items, a play area for young kids and other fantastic selections. My only issue with this location is the Pharmacy, specifically a Tech named Dennis. It started last Saturday when we came in to pick up prescriptions for our kids' fluoride. After waiting 45 minutes, we received our daughter's Rx, but were haughtily informed by Dennis that our son's Rx was on back order until Wednesday. Wednesday evening, after work, I head straight to the Pharmacy. Good 'ol Dennis was there, and after a brief look at the shelves, informed me that my Rx was on back order. I was defiant and said, no, this was promised to me four days ago, I'm not leaving here until I have the Rx in my hands. He then disappeared for 15 minutes and came back to the register, slamming a prescription bottle on the counter. I said, oh, good, you found it. Then I asked, why did you tell me it wasn't here earlier when it was? If I was a more passive person, I may have walked away from the pharmacy, empty-handed. He barked back, 'No, I had to take someone else's Rx and give it to you because you won't let it go.' To which, I promptly replied that I found his customer service to be deplorable and unprofessional in nature. He responded with a gruff response, 'well, that's your opinion'. I have brought this matter up with the Customer Service Desk and the employees there were very empathetic and helpful. I am aghast that a store that has friendly, helpful staff and management tolerates the unprofessional demeanor of this most unpleasant Pharmacy Tech. Freddy's you get a 4/5 stars only because of this cretin; otherwise, the score would be 5/5. read more

This is in regards basically to FM corporate and their recent decision to change their ads effective days. Its isn't so much the days as the idea of how they are going to get their ads out to people. They haven't a clue. It was suggestes that they put them in the local newspapers, send them out like Safeway/Albertsons do now I weigh the "flyers" we all get since not everyone takes the overpriced daily papers that comes out but only several times a week but some do buy the Sun ppr still or subscribe to it only . The adage that people can look it up on-line doesn't work for everyone because not everyone has a computer or e-mail. We are talking seniors and others ..So they are basically catering to a certain demographics and leaving the others out , which is rather discriminatory. Oh, you can get on a mailing list to get an ad but it may not take hold for several months. I sure hope Kroger/FM thinks this one out further because they haven't so far read more

Not what it used to be. I'm a long-time NE Portland resident and Fred Meyer customer. Since the sale to Kroger and ESPECIALLY since the remodel I've found that I'm not finding what I am looking for... and therefore frequenting the Hollywood store MUCH store less often. In fact I avoid it if at all possible- for multiple reasons. It seems they have less variety... at least more often than not I don't find what I'm looking for. The remodel has made going there for just grocery shopping an anxiety filled journey of wandering all over the place to find grocery items - things just aren't organized intuitively and are way to spaced out- Why would they stick pharmacy and household goods in the middle and make you trek halfway across the store to get to the frozen foods? If I want to just go grocery shopping now I go to Safeway or the new New Seasons on Broadway. I also buy a lot of hardware and garden items and find their selection anemic now. I've been shopping Hollywood Fred Meyer for 18 years and for the most part thought it was a great convenient store. Unfortunately FM hasn't kept up with NE PDX growth. Despite their remodel a year ago the place is a zoo on the weekends. I spend way more time waiting in the check out line then shopping. Today, 23 minutes. Try going during the week and 1/2 the checkouts are closed. FM should should shed some of the bs in the store and concentrate on groceries and a better shopping experience. Shed the new online shopping area, have yet to see anyone there since it opened. Shed the shoe department. Lots of great shoes on display, try finding a pair in stock in common sizes, its nearly impossible and takes up a lot of space. FM managers and their union ought to take a quick trip to the New Seasons next door and take notice. Checkers hustle, managers make quick decisions to add more checkers, more baggers, and New Seasons is much friendlier and a great shopping experience. Price is important but shopping experience, customer service and long lines are a drag most folks I know don't want to deal with. I've cut my FM shopping down to once or twice a month for sundries and staples only. read more

so obviously a long time since i wrote my review and the remodel is thankfully done! the store is even better with growler filling stations, a fully dedicated sushi "bar" and WAY better dressing rooms. this store has so much, hardware and paint, gardening, children's and adult clothing that is very trendy and ranges form basic quality to solid, good quality with brands like columbia, carhart, under armour and nike if you like. there is a solid craft section with stuff for knitters, scrap bookers and general painting. they have a great spray paint offering . i'm an artist and mom so it is not strange for my grocery list to include grass fed beef, organic milk, number 16 brass escutcheon pins and dover white spray paint in gloss finish. i have been a shopper here since 2004 and 80 percent of the faces i see there have been there since then. and the really weird thing is that most of their staff is strangely intelligent and actually behave as if they give a darn. FM stars: the guy with the pony tail who used to work in customer service and i think cut his hair and then moved out of customer service, the guy who is now in customer service and dressed as malificent for halloween 2014, the psychic lady who runs the apparel register at the west entrance and always remembers my son, that really SUPER LOUD dude who used to work in paint but sometimes seems to be at the apparel register now, the cool chick with long blond hair who (i think) still runs self check and any of the guys in electronics who agree to check me out when i am in a hurry even though i bought zero electronics. you guys rock and it doesn't go unnoticed. oh, and the lady in customer service with the pretty nails, i can't believe they are press ons?!?! read more
