I went there and they tried to help me but didn't listen to what I had to say when I gave them my opinions about my experiences with my other shoes and tried to tell them what I am looking for and what I needed. I told them I'm not a wide, and they kept giving me wide shoes to try on and only after saying four times the shoes they brought me were too wide did they accept what I was saying. They made a joke about me not being a runner I would assume because I'm a large guy. I walk all day, over 10000 steps and was looking for a shoe with more support for my ankles. I got one on one help- sizing my foot, trying on different brands and styles, and answering questions. My daughter has really wide feet and we struggle trying to find her shoes. While we didn't want to spend over $100 on a pair of shoes for a child, after doing quite a bit of shopping and online research, we basically became resigned that we needed to spend more money for a pair of shoes than we'd like. The sales manager at foot traffic was extremely understanding and helpful. She also experienced wide feet. She gave us a student discount as our daughter was still in school, and to even make it a little less painful she took a few more dollars off for us, which was much appreciated. I am walking the Portland half marathon and needed a new pair of sneakers to avoid blisters. A friend told me to go to Foot Traffic because they measure your foot and diagnose how you walk to find the perfect sneaker. I was super exciting for this and went to the NE Fremont location today. I walked in and went right to the sneakers. There were three young people working. One was helping a customer and two were shuffling around the store moving shoe boxes. No one asked if I needed help. I waited as I didn't want to interrupt anyone. Then an older couple walked in the door and were immediately greeted with, "Hello. what can I help you with?" Came in here for my first time and was completely ignored. One salesperson on the floor handling merchandise, another with a customer, and two behind the counter, one on the phone. Tried to make eye contact with the woman not on the phone (long red hair in a ponytail) and she looked away each time I tried to say something. A minute later a guy walked in and she ran out onto the floor to ask him if he needed help. Right in front of me, I couldn't believe it. The staff seems knowledgeable about people's specific needs, not just foot size, but also activities, foot issues, etc. They're very patient and the personal attention is nice. This store rocks in terms of service and knowledge. I have gotten a few pairs now running shoes from here, and they have the most knowledgeable workers who know their stuff. I went to a big box store looking for running shoes when I was I was in desperate need, I had neither the service or knowledge. Just young kids grabbing what's in their stock room. I didn't buy from there. Instead I came back to the store because I'd rather give my money to local business. They have a treadmill if you're not sure what kind of stride you have and they can make recommendations based on what you want, type of running you do and how much you want to spend. They have a 30 days return policy if you're not happy. If you want some expertise in their products, come here. The person who helped me was awesome, wish I had caught his name. He helped narrow my choice when my first pick wasn't available at that store. When I went in, the store was busy but the employees didn't even break a sweat. It's your typical local running store, so you know what to expect ... dedicated running freaks for employees (that's a compliment BTW!), specialized stock of shoes/gear that you're not going to find at Foot Locker / Sports Authority, gait analysis, and so on. And as it is with most specialty shops, the outsider can sometimes feel out of place at first. Likewise, as it is with most specialty shops, the employees are more than willing to help you get outfitted with exactly what you need. But what draws me to Foot Traffic is their stock of that wonderful Run Oregon swag. At this location, they had men's and women's logo gear in different colors, as well as 13.1 and 26.2 Run Oregon shirts. Holy Cow! I had no idea it could get this good. I'm a runner but I'm no professional and I have to admit I was the least bit anxious about going into a bonafide running shoe store. I have bought running shoes on zappos before simply because it was quick and easy... but this was so much better. Fantastic customer service. I did the treadmill analysis (walking for 20 seconds) and then tried on 5 or 6 pairs of shoes that were customized to my feet. I left with a great pair of shoes that I love. The best part is they were cheaper than if I got them online and I can exchange them in the first month if they give me any problems. I am now a believer. I want the shirt, call me a fan. I had a fantastic experience at Foot Traffic on NE Fremont. I initially went there to assess my gait and arches on the recommendation of my personal trainer. I can get a bit intimidated by specialized sports stores, but not in this case. I walked in and instead of awkwardly looking around for a few minutes before getting any help, I was enthusiastically welcomed and greeted by Megan who assisted me with my gait/arch assessment. My arches were fine (perfect really) but I needed way more cushioning than I had with my existing pair of gym shoes (Nike Flywire), and she expertly helped me pick the PERFECT pair of new shoes (Adidas Supernova Glide) I couldn't be happier. If you go to Foot Traffic (and you should, just look at you ;p), ask for Megan. She's a gem! I'm not a "runner" per say, but my new running shoes are perfect for my jogs and general fitness activities. Buying a pair of running shoes at Foot Traffic was a very pleasant experience. I was considering trying to find an outlet store of one of the major shoe companies that are here in the area. I just need a pair to go to the gym and run on a treadmill so for me, having a specific type of sneaker is not that serious. What is serious for me is the customer service experience. I will go out of my way to avoid Corporations, giving them my hard earned money, or dealing with their unmotivated and apathetic employees. Foot Traffic appears to be a local-owned family business. They film you walking on a treadmill and scientifically explain the mechanics of your particular walk with you. Then they suggest a pair of shoes that are compatible with your particular physical style. They care more about your comfort and needs being met, than they do about popularity, aesthetics, or keeping up with fashion trends. This is definitely the place to go for serious runners, and those trying to be. They have information on running clubs and groups if you are interested in that sort of thing. I go to both the downtown Foot Traffic (FT) and the northeast store on NE Fremont. Both stores have friendly and knowlegable staff. When I brought up my concerns with getting a shoe that would help my running form (I have lower back issues) they helped pick out an appropriate shoe and recommended I attent a FT clinic on running form. Now that is service. In addition I have paticipated in many FT sponsored events and my son has run track and cross country for their Portland Parks and Rec FT youth team.
