I walk in and every entrance has a VERY VERY clear security presence to the overload point. Here's the thing - I get it, high crime area but this seems just way over the top. I was trying to ask the security guy where the motorized carts are since all you see is security and not actual employees there to help. That was made extra clear when he started barking that he could not hear me while aggressively walking towards me. I did my shopping but was nearly collapsing by the end. FYI - this is the only Fred Meyer I have been to while has one single motorized shopping cart which is broken and they have not bothered to get it fixed. If I could give zero stars I would. We stood in line at CS for over half an hour all while upper management just walked around looking at who knows what. A team of three were walking towards us and I said something about how the line behind me had only grown. I don't know how much longer I can support a business that doesn't give a rip bout employees and customers equally. I had a horrible experience with a person working self check, i didn't catch the dudes name but he seemed mentally disabled. He took 10 minutes to come over when my machine needed to scan my id, and when he did get over and i said something about him just chatting to other customers he said "sorry for trying to help other customers first". Wanted to see a manager then but I didn't waste my time. Wow. How bad can a Fred Meyer be? I've gone here for years because it is close to me. The checkers have gotten worse and worse. They are rude, don't know the store policies (because you get a different answer about everything from different people). Yes they are understaffed. The march to bankruptcy or mediocrity continues for the Kroger owned Fred Meyers. They are relentlessly discontinuing brands to fall in step with Safeway and Albertsons which offer few items except their own brands. Today's treat; Fred Meyer is discontinuing carrying Nancy's sour cream. Nancy's is a local Springfield Oregon company that makes the finest yogurts, kefirs, and sour cream. If you haven't tried their sour cream go to Market of Choice, New Seasons, Zupans, or some other store that sells more than their own company brands and you will be in for a treat. I would say at this point there are approximately ten items I have bought at Fred Meyers that are gone and have been discontinued. When you ask the department managers in the store, like the nice fellow in the dairy department today, they say they know the items are good, they are getting lots of complaints, and there is absolutely know thing they can do about it. Make no mistake about it, Kroger's sole interest is the earnings per share on their stock and these stores are expendable to them. Alternatives for reasonably priced food in Portland are about gone. read more

This review is specifically about the bagging skills at this store. 95% of the time when I'm here (which is weekly) the baggers literally just toss my groceries into bags with no order. today there were soft topped yogurts buried underneath cans of soup. one of my avocados was punctured. my butter was smashed! WTF!? I bagged groceries when I was 17. it is not hard. At minimum, put heavy things on the bottom. I mean really. they clearly do not train their baggers or give a shit about quality customer service. It's ridiculous. First time coming here & I had to go searching for a cart in the parking lot. No sanitizing station/ wipes anywhere upon entering. Store was very busy, people everywhere even employees. I don't think I noticed a set uniform for employees, a lot seemed to wear street clothing with a little name tag. Seemed very old inside & perhaps they have nothing to clean the floors. It's big inside. I was in the grocery/ food sections circling around trying to find healthy food options. Never really like the self checkouts at stores but they did have both. I went in the self checkout with the conveyor belt. Nice human in front of me made his purchases & light flashed for cashier verification. Waiting..... waiting..... waiting. So many nametag people walked by... who works here??? I got tired of staring & standing. So I mustered up my outside voice "can we get some assistance over here?" Eventually the only person actually working came over to verify their purchase. No smiles but a look of acknowledgment that they were busy & heard me. I don't like that self checkout but did my best which felt like forever. I purchased 1 paperbag to put everything in. That was about $107 worth of food.... in one bag. What did I even buy??!! So it's time to leave & there is one door available for exit. Had to wait my turn behind 4 persons for the security person to review everyone receipts. Today, I adulted. I took some new steps and actually ordered my groceries for pickup. I was terrified! I have always done the shopping, even if it requires several stores and times per week, always me and occasionally a disgruntled teen who wants to see the outside world. The order process online was easy, prices were fair, pick up was same day, the staff that came out with the order was friendly, verified my name and even asked if i had any last moment coupons to apply. They give you paper bags with those twisted/twine like handles so that was better than just flimsy paper. Frozen items were in one bag, veggies in another. My order was near flawless, so close, but somebody slipped me a rotten tomato and that broke my heart. No customer would have chosen that item and it was obviously a messed up Roma. Oh well, I am not too deeply damaged and will give them another chance, but produce should be carefully inspected. read more

Deceptive pricing is A recurring problem I encounter at Fred Meyer. Yesterday bought pepsi on sale, but it didnt ring up sale price, had to complain to checker to get the advertised, posted price. Today tried to buy a mix of chips all advertised at 4/1.99 each, didnt ring up the sale price, even reporting it to checker didnt get it fixed. This has got to be the WORST pharmacy in town. Every single person who works there is rude and condescending. They can't properly fill a prescription to save their lives. They'll tell you they're filling your prescription, then when it's not filled after several days, four different people will tell you four different reasons why they can't fill your NEEDED prescription, and when you call your Dr., you find out it was none of the things you were told by these incompetent people. You can be literally in office with your Dr., sitting next to them while they are calling and/or faxing this pharmacy to get them to fix whatever perpetual issue they have with meds you get every single month, then the dopes in the pharmacy will claim they never received a call or fax and make you jump through hoops and hoops while you go days without the medication you need. They will tell you they've cancelled your prescription so you can go to a FUNCTIONAL pharmacy, then never f'ing do it, so you can't get it filled anywhere else. And not a single person who works in this place can express even a drop of empathy when they are literally messing up people's health on the regular. When you are standing in the forever long line and hear the person in front of you break down because it's been six days since they put in their refill, it's still not ready and they need their medication, and the employee just says "we're backed up it will be ready by tomorrow" and just walks away from the customer, then goes to the back and is visibly complaining to someone else while there is a long line of people that are waiting, because they also rarely have more than one person working the register, even when the line is out the door... Well no f'ing wonder they can't do f-all right... they've got nothing but rude, inconsiderate, and incompetent people in charge of people's health and wellness, and they all could not care less about that fact. read more

We buy most of our groceries from here. The store is somewhat near Gresham. The pricing is moderate and I like that the produce is always fresh. The deli is great too. They have fried and baked chicken as well as jojos amongst other things. There is a bakery here too. I love the freshly baked French bread. The workers are friendly and seem to like their jobs. The parking lot is generally full, but you can usually find parking in the back. read more

I have been a loyal customer of Fred Meyers for a while now I have reported on many occasions how their customer service is not right at all I have seen and I have heard their customer service workers be racist and rude tonight was the final straw for me I have been going there for a long time picking up my Western Union we do our Western Unions we do our money orders for whatever our bills are we buy groceries here I was a very loyal customer to Fred Meyers we were going tonight to pick up my Western Union of course lines are long like they normally are they got two women up front one that I have always had a problem with because she has stated racist stuff to me she was there another American woman was there older lady short light brown hair and the other older American lady with short gray hair with glasses then while we were still in line in African American young girl came up took over the American older lady with glasses with gray hair left go on break the African-American girl called us I went up I said I'm here to get a Western Union gave her the paper and my ID she wrote the number down went to the machine put my information in went over to the other coworker of hers the American older lady with light brown hair had her back to me whispered something to this lady walks back and said oh I like how we work together next thing I know she looks at me says I can't give you your Western Union because the ID and the name do not match I said excuse you I've been picking up here all the time I'm not understanding how my name doesn't match because you ask me who sent it and I told you who sent it then you tell me my name doesn't match you turn the screen around my name is perfectly on there the only difference is my middle name is not completely spelled out but I've never had a problem with my picking up my Western Union like that ever she goes I can't do nothing for you I said please give me my ID back she's like I will just give me a minute give me a minute I got my stuff I went somewhere else picked up my money no problem they said there's no reason I should not have gotten my money my name is exactly the way it has been that I've been picking up my money from Western Union then I tried calling to talk to a supervisor because I'm very upset at this point I said I would like to talk to a supervisor who is above customer service they put some guy on who acts like he can't hear me and doesn't understand what I'm saying and I say are you a supervisor he said no I'm not I said I'd like to talk to a supervisor over customer service about the two women I would like to put a formal complaint on he goes okay hold on hangs up on me I called back four times the same scenario the women and customer service pick up give it to the guy and hang up I do not recommend this Fred Meyers I might be just one person one customer that they are losing because I will not go back in there again and spend one penny of my money ever again this customer service center needs so much help it is not even funny anymore these women or men think they can play with people's money or belittle us or judge us when at the end of the day they need to realize if it wasn't for us coming in they would not have jobs I was not rude I was not nothing I said I'm here to pick up my Western Union she was doing whatever does not give you a right not to give somebody their money I don't care whatever your opinion or whatever you think of someone you do not have a right to say oh I want to give you your money or I don't want to give your money because I went to a different location and had no problems with my ID I will not go back but i will file a complaint it wont go no where but I will be telling my truth because it is unfair to be treated this way people acting like they have power over someone is not right at all read more

This is the worst Fred meyer I have ever been to. It is just a mess. The clothing department had things on the floor and a lot was that was not folded. Employees are super unhelpful and did not know location of things in the store and just said I don't know, Another employee I saw working in the clothing section did wasn't wearing her mask properly, and then took it off all the way and hugged a friend of her that came into the store. Sometimes, my spouse and I eat lunch at Carl's Jr. and then go grocery shopping at this Fred Meyer on Southeast Division street. There are digital coupons that can be clipped and loaded onto a Fred Meyer Rewards card. There are many different items on sale every week at Fred Meyer. Kroger corporate owns all Fred Meyer stores. Most of the jobs and employees inside are Union. There are plenty of parking spots... except during the busiest or peak times on Saturdays, and Sundays. Depending on the time and day of the week... there could be a lot or a little of whatever item(s) is on your shopping list. The pharmacy usually has a line after 3:25 PM. There are bottles and boxes of wine. There is also beer in cans and bottles. When one reads the sale signs and the prices it is easy to know which item(s) need a coupon and which items are everyday low prices. Yes, there are sometimes Clearance items. There are shelves of items that are specially marked near the Dairy section along the back wall. Shoes and clothes are also for sale at the Division Fred Meyer. Bags cost 10 cents now. There are restrooms. There is a water fountain. There are freezers full of ice..... unless there is a huge rager of a party at your neighbor's house... and he bought all of the plastic bags before you got to the register. Don't bring your dog. Sometimes, there are tourists who forget to bring their wallet. A few times, there has been a problem with a person at the registers form of payment... maybe their card was declined... and the front end manager is asked to assist the Cashier. There is a Floral department... and a Garden center. There are mops,... light bulbs for night lights,... and shower curtains... usually. In the past, I have bought a nice looking hat at Fred Meyer. One of my billfolds (it's a sort of wallet) was from Fred Meyer before as well. There are Vegan, Vegetarian and Pescatarian foods as well as food items for snackers and carnivores. There are tables and shelves of baked goods... for your special day as well. There is a small area for motorcycle parking as well. read more

I've shopped at Fred Meyer Shopping Centers since birth (in the company of my mom, of course) up until now. My original Freddie's was located at 122nd & Division. When Fred G.Meyer died in the mid-1970s, there was some legal wrangling in the family and the 122nd & Division property was shut and torn down and rebuilt in about the late 1980s here at 147th & Division. This Fred's has aged well and has been well maintained over the years. I think it's a bit smaller in size than the newer Fred Meyer stores, and of course are now owned by Kroger. However, Kroger has done an excellent job of allowing Fred Meyer to maintain their original identity as they started their stores here in Portland back in the 1920s. Why I pitched a tantrum in the old 122nd & Division store at about 3 or so when a local cartoon show host, Mr. Moon, patted my head . I was having none of that and was carried out shrieking in terror to the car. Evidently, my attachment to Freddie's is both emotional and traumatic. This 147th & Division Fred's has everything you want and need at really decent prices with good sales and specials. I was recently impressed with their electronics section when I needed to purchase a thumb drive. They've also upped their game with their selection of organic produce. The parking lot is in good repair and better than many of the other Fred's lots, but I still watch my step. Employees are generally pleasant and very helpful. I recommend this Fred's without hesitation and consider it my home-base Fred Meyer, and no more tantrums for me; I very much prefer the emotional attachment to this old favorite rather than the traumatic. read more

This store in particular has a very poorly kept produce section. Moldy Cauliflower, spoiled vegetables and a messy floor to start. They are always out of soda lids or the machine is broken. Bathrooms are in need of repair and the pharmacy staff has teenaged looking unshaven hung over kids they call pharmacy techs. The kids play place has a very rude older lady who snapped at my kids and seemed upset around children. This store has gone down hill in the last 2 months and I'm not sure why, but corporate should take a good look at this store. I was shopping here almost every day and love the retail and patio section but have been shopping at Safeway for my groceries lately. I live less than a mile away. Let me start by saying all the check out staff is beyond pleasant. I went there today and they have a clearance table. I noted an item that my son loves but very expensive, Harmless coconut water. Anyone who buys this product knows that it is to be refrigerate as it will build up bacteria. I thought that staff would want to know as someone could get very ill and should be removed from the table. I am in health care for 40 years, RN with biochemistry secondary degree. I found 2 employees in that section and informed them, they did go to table but as I was shopping in that section I noted product still there. When I went to check out I mentioned to a checkout woman who is very pleasant of the incident. She called over a manager and it was the man I had originally informed, he said very annoyed " it's already been removed" I went back to the section as I was surprised how they had done so quickly as I had just seen it there a few minutes before ... he lied as it was still all there. I am appalled how 2 employees and humans in general care so little about the safety of others. Possibly a pervasive mindset there? If it weren't for the very pleasant checkout staff I would think so. read more
