A little over a week ago, during Pandemic, my Darling Husband and myself were going grocery shopping. I decided to go back and shop at this Northeast Glisan (pronounced Gleeson) street location. There was a few people waiting at the Sandwich counter which is also the Deli for hot foods and cold salads. It was a warm afternoon... so of course... I bought some salad. It was the newer Baked Salmon salad with Quinoa and big diagonally sliced carrots. Oh Em whatever... muy delicioso. (That's Spanish for delicious.) There were a few tourists shopping. Two of those tourists were buying items that could be taken on a picnic... or maybe the pasty men didn't want to pay for room service at their hotel or motel. There are many tourists who shop at Fred Meyer Glisan during all hours of the summertime and sometimes also in the spring... because there are Bagger/ Parcels who will place customer's items into paper shopping bags. I don't know why anybody would want to go through self checkout when the U-Scan monitor isn't friendly. I noticed that there were only two people scanning items at the U-Scan on the left side (when facing the Checkout lanes and the parking lot - which is also South). Besides some of the other household items that my Darling Husband purchased for him and myself there were a few essentials... that I was restocking that I had noticed my Husband put the empty containers for... into the recycle bin inside our pantry. The best part about Fred Meyer is that there are consistently the same items on the shelf on Sale at the same time of year (it's usually Seasonally that items are on Sale... ) but, I was surprised by a clearance sales tag in the HABA (Health and Beauty Aid) department as well. Also with a rewards card (it's like a Membership card)... there are Digital Coupons and deals every week. It's better to shop during the dinner hour... eat a snack before you arrive. And, although there are doughnuts... I don't recommend eating those... while you are shopping. The Fred Meyer is owned by Kroger... and Kroger does prosecute shoplifters. Maybe that's why I didn't see many people who looked like they had been houseless for over a year... or camping for an extended period... inside the NE Glisan Fred Meyer. I didn't go into the Women's restroom though. In the past, I've noticed a few criminals taking a shower in the sink just inside the restroom door. read more

I have been going to this Fred Meyers for almost 10 years now, it's a few blocks from my house. Almost everyone who works here is fantastic and very helpful. HOWEVER one of the managers, I believe her name is Sue, is just over the top rude and completely unhelpful. God forbid you be someone of lower income and need to cash in lottery or cans or anything of that sort, she looks at you like you're poop stuck to her shoe at that point. She runs the customer service desk usually and will just close it down with people waiting for help, if it's actually open she just tells you she can't help you. I was lucky enough that there was another person there who literally contradicted every single thing she said and even showed her how to do what I was asking and her attitude toward me turned extremely nasty. I told her it was unnecessary to speak to me the way she was and it was downright rude. At that point she closed her window and left once again and the other employee had to finish helping customers. It's unfortunate that a manager acts this way. I've made a complaint on site to other store managers and without me even saying her name they know who I'm talking about! Is this the new standard for Fred Meyers employees?? God i hope not, it makes all the wonderful people who do a great job look terrible. If we see her working customer service or a register we avoid her and if we have no choice but to go to her we usually leave and drive up to the Safeway, that's how appalling this woman's behavior is. read more

Boo on this location. Here's why. - On more than one occasion I've purchased food, gone home and opened it immediately, only to discover that it's spoiled and moldy. - No salad bar. Very little in the way of prepared food. Extremely limited selection in the butcher shop. - They seem physically incapable of keeping the entrances stocked with baskets - Their grocery sacks don't have handles on them. When asked why not, they say not enough customers want them. I call shenanigans. I'm sure that I could find more, but that's all I've got for now. I hate that I live .1 mile from this store, as it makes no sense for me to go elsewhere. This store can go kick rocks. NOTE: a couple of the check out people are very friendly. Third time going here for a quick stop to pick up baby formula. They lock it up now which is just preposterous to begin with. I pushed the call button and even asked employees to open it for me. No one has a key and I sat there for almost 20 minutes waiting. This has happened multiple times now. If you are going to insist on locking up a necessity for parents, at least have a system in place to get the case opened in a timely manner. I will not shop here again and I literally live 6 blocks away. You've lost a loyal customer. Shame on you for locking it up in the first place. I understand it's a high theft item, but this is not the right solution. Do better. read more

The pharmacy is a joke. Every month I come in for a refill, and every single time, I get a different story about there not being any refills available, and then after I implore them to check again, or show them the last bottle that shows refills, they magically see the refill status. Sometimes it's waiting for me, most of the time I have to wait. This happens no matter who is back there. Tried their online tool to speed things up, and turns out that doesn't work either, seeing as how it never actually recognizes the RX # on my bottle. If this pharmacy weren't a 3minute drive from my house, I would find another. read more

Everyone knows how well I treat The Cat. Let us not even delve into The Day The Cat Nearly Chewed into an Artery on My Hand and Yet He Lives. He leads an enviable life, but then again, so it goes for house cats. So in spite of the humans in his house trekking to Winco for their groceries, The Cat will eat nothing but natural food free of by-products and preservatives. The brand is called Pet Promise, and the nearby only place outside of the vet's office that seems to sell it is the Fred Meyer on NE Glisan. But for the humans' food items - beer, wine, Doritos, bagels, etc. - we go elsewhere. Why? I guess the selections at other grocery stores, even other Fred Meyer locations, just make it so. Plus, no matter how long The Cat lords over the household, one can't be beholden to just one store because your cat makes you shop there. That's crazy talk. ETA: Eagle-eyed reader Sean informed me that Pet Promise can no longer keep its vow of by-product free food to our pets, as the company has gone out of business. I need to look around every time I'm there to make sure I haven't set foot in a WalMart. I only go here for Target-type items (TP, shampoo, etc) 'cause QFC is too pricey for that type of stuff, the parking at Freddy's on 39th makes me stabby, the lovely Target itself seems like such a long drive and going to WalMart is something only ahem, those people do. Extra star because my US magazine (THERE WERE "THE BACHELOR" DIRTY SECRETS inside, I need to know if Ali is coming back!) got caught in the conveyor belt and one page was very, very slightly rumpled. The cashier asked if I wanted a new one, I said "no, that's fine" and she took 10% off to make up for it. When that slightly damaged US magazine goes on "Antiques Roadshow - Portland" in 40 years and is only worth $100K and the appraiser shakes her head and says "if only it was in mint condition, it would have been worth $500K" I'm going to be kicking myself. read more

Why in the world do you need a place this huge just to offer the same selection as most other small, nearby grocery stores (see QFC)? Seems like there are tons of the same thing on the shelves here, with very little in the way of real options. Several brands of honey, to take one example, with few differences. Maybe there's an organic one, and maybe one is made with orange blossom instead of clover. At QFC, they cram local, forest-sourced and raw into the set of options, with about the same amount of space. More is more at Freddie's, I guess. The saving grace of this place is the awesome garden center, which I cannot get at other grocery stores. The starts here actually tend to be strong and healthy thanks to the tiny but dedicated garden center staff. They have a huge selection of things... even better than places like Home Depot which you might suspect of being better. DO NOT delude yourself into driving those extra miles... it will be for nothing! read more

This location is the WORST. I live less than a minute from here, and (unfortunately) shop here quite often; my rewards points would show that I've spent over $3,000 at Fred Meyer since 1/1. In spite of this, they have followed, harassed, and sent secret shoppers after me, and reenacted Olympus Has Fallen, acting as the Koreans with me as their target, on countless occasions. I've never done anything that would warrant this, and would recommend you avoid this particular store at all costs, and go to the Gateway FM instead; that store is bigger than some Wal-Marts, it's two minutes from this one, they don't treat you like Osama Bin Laden every single time you enter their store- which is not only offensive to ethnic groups, but also to little white females that spend a lot of time and money frequenting their business. I like Fred Meyers but the cashiers need to be educated on how to pack a bag. The goal shouldn't be to cram as much as they can into one!! I had two bags of items that the cashier put into the cart. I didn't know the weight until reaching the car. I could barely lift one of them. Of course, I don't claim to be super muscular (the cashier can see that!) and I am almost 64 years old! Sorry to admit it. So my strength has waned over the years. But really, shouldn't Fred Meyer have a scale for the cashier to check out the weight of the bag before putting it in the cart? One bag was 9+ lbs but the other one was 21lbs!! I could hardly drag it into the house! Sorry to not be Hercules but a little consideration would be nice. Humanity is very diverse! If you can manage to make a vaccine appointment with another provider, I highly suggest that you do so. This store's pharmacy manager had promised to call me back about scheduling my second dose. I waited a week for that return call, wasting that week of valuable time in which I could have called other providers, only to be told today that the only way to get a second dose appointment was to call each morning to see if they had cancellations. Had she given me this info, I would have spent the week calling around. The general public's rollout is starting today and no appointments can be found after hours of being on the phone. I'm in a huge dilemma now without the ability to get my second shot. Shame on you Fred Meyer and Kroger. read more

Good luck finding what you're looking for here. If they haven't discontinued an item out of the blue, they've probably moved it to a different area of the store that makes absolutely no sense. There might be people working in the store that are there to help you, but apparently they're ninjas, so you'll never see them. You'd be better off to keep on going till you hit the next Fred Meyer store, because they don't ALL suck as bad as this one. ETA: Their pharmacy is a joke. I know, I know, it's a grocery store, right? Well, not all Fred Meyer's are created equal. We have been cooking more at home (booooo), and have been frustrated with our grocery shopping lately. It seems as if we have to go to 4 different places to find what we need! Usually Safeway, Freddy's, Trader Joe's, and Zupans. This week, we managed to get everything (except frozen gnocchi) at this Fred Meyer. It's HUGE. They even have a store map to help you find your way (no joke). Prices are reasonable, lots of parking, store is clean and well stocked. Love it. read more

I want to share that the woman manager Michelle on Thursday night refused to print me a receipt for an item I bought for a client of mine. She told me that there's nothing that she can do for an item my head but just five minutes earlier for a client of mine and I need a proof of receipt and she said there's nothing she can do and treated me as I was mud on the bottom of her shoe. I will never shop at this Fred Meyer ever again it was the most disappointing experience I've ever had and I had to pay for the item myself because she didn't care. Very well. read more

This is my new favorite Freddie's. I usually go to the one on SE 39th/Hawthorne, but it's usually a pain in the ass to find any kind of parking after I get off work. I came by this location the day before Thanksgiving and not only got a parking spot right in front of the store, but I was in and out in less than 10 minutes. Whoa! I really wonder what it'll be like when I stop by on a Sunday morning sometime. All the employees I passed were really friendly, saying hello and asking if I needed help. Overall it made for a wonderfully, stress free experience. And thankfully it's not much further from my apartment than the SE Hawthorne location. Win-win for me! read more

I've been having issues with my insurance and have been unable to pick up my RXs. I've been calling the pharmacy & my insurance co to try and sort out the issue. While trying to sort this problem out, the "insurance specialist" in the pharmacy dept was incredibly rude to me. She refused to help me, cut me off, and just generally had a nasty attitude. Very frustrating and tired of being disrespected for something that's not even my fault. read more

Was in between meetings and ordered a coffee on the Starbucks mobile app. Well I placed the order under the wrong Starbucks this one was in this Fred Meyers. When I showed up they were very apologetic and the manager Shannon called over there and had already charged my card at the wrong Starbucks. Shannon walked up before I left and gave me a free coffee. Awesome and thank you even though it was me selecting the wrong store she still took care of me. Great surprise when I was leaving. Thank you Starbucks manager Shannon. You rock! read more

I ordered a Birthday Cake for my sons second birthday. I chose the Nemo theme cake. In the book it was a basic decoration with blue frosting and Nemo and Dory squirt toys. Cute and perfect sine my son loves this movie and water. When I saw the cake I was surprised and excited at how wonderful the cake looked. It had been decorated to look like underwater plants and rocks. It was BEAUTIFUL! Everyone at the party commented at how wonderful it looked. My son was excited and had to look at it several times each time calling out Nemo, (Mission accomplished!)! I really wish I could include a picture of the cake. Thank you to the cake decorator who helped make my sons birthday a success. read more

Oh, Freddie's. I feel almost guilty admitting that I'm a fan of your one-stop-shopping; much as I love to live local, there are times when I just need to get a hoodie, a bathroom fixture, some spraypaint, kitty litter, gluten-free goodies and yarn all at once, and you're there to answer the call. You are steadfast and unassuming, with ample parking and reasonable prices, and while I'm not a fan of the incessant Salvation Army ringers that invade this time of season given their anti-gay policies, I am a fan of the fact that your roots are at least local even if you are part of a large corporation. This particular store is pretty much my go-to for getting everything at once, with a decent natural groceries section, reasonably clean store, and just about everything else one expects out of a Freddie's. read more

I'm not sure if he knows it yet, but one of the cashiers here is my boyfriend. He is a magnificent creature, and one day I might even remember to check out his name tag --- it's the next big step in our relationship, and I'm not sure I'm totally ready to know that much about him quite yet. Even aside from my imaginary Fred Meyer boyfriend, I do love this store. It's on the smaller side, compared to other locations, but it adequately satisfies my inner fat kid and the produce has been fresh every time I've wandered into that section. The meats are occasionally understocked, but never to such an extent that I fear I'll starve to death if they don't bring some more out immediately. The employees I've spoken to here have all been wonderfully helpful and kind, on the rare occasion I need something that I can't find myself. read more

Fred Meyer is Fred Meyer, they are all almost the same. Each one has a slight different layout and feel. This one, while having most items I needed, is a Market Place, thus its limited in certain areas. All in all, the store has a dated, almost dirty feel. Its quick and easy, which considering its location seems to fit the neighborhood. Lasting impression was the cashier. Whom looked almost catatonic before realizing we were in her line. The most entertaining part was near the end of the checkout process where she began to chant "not this line, go away, not this line" and repeat. Apparently this was her way of using her vast mental powers to steer undesired customers away from her line. I am glad her vast and obvious superhero mental powers allowed me to go through her line. My tip... make it quick in and out and choose U-Scan, avoid the opinionated cashiers. read more

I live near this Fred Meyer and shop here often. Like any Freddy's, it has a great selection of a dazzling array of products. The good: *Gluten free options. *Small, but good, selection of Organic produce. The OG produce is usually reasonably fresh - I think the turnover is frequent, and competitively priced. *It has a huge beer selection, where the usual mainstream and Portland-focused beers are well-represented. For more unusual ones you'll need to go somewhere else, but Fred's is more than adequate for a quick beer run. Bonus points for having gluten free beers and hard ciders on offer. *Ditto for the wine selection. Vast, decent prices. *Recently they have begun to offer a limited number of Organic meats. Handy when I don't have the time to go to New Season's. *Nice selection of fresh flowers. The bad: *While they have a good selection, their "gourmet" cheeses are crazy expensive. The best *I've had really good customer service at this particular store, notably better than other Fred's. I think it's a little less busy than the Hollywood and Hawthorne locations, and the employees seem to go out of their way to offer to help. It's nice. read more

The cashiers are really slow here. When we went to get in line, only two regular lines were open but three express lanes, and in both the regular lanes carts were parked second in line with no customer near. As we waited and waited just as the person front in line finished paying and walked away that second In line showed up with her arms full or groceries. She pays and I'm up now so the person in line behind me parks her cart at the belt and walks away! It's not that our cashier was inept on the register just in no hurry. We are finally done and the person behind me shows up just like the one in front of me had with half the contents of her shopping trip in her arms. I'm telling you people park their carts in line then go shop because they know it's going to take that long to get through the lines! There wasn't nearly the selection of organic produce I've seen at most other Fred Meyers here but they did have a large selection of gluten free items. It's a bit of a maze to get through and the location of items is hard to figure out. I can't imagine intentionally going back. read more

This is a fred meyer's that has more than just food. They have a lot of things like furniture, kids toys, outdoor equipment, gardening, and kitchen ware. The prices are pretty reasonable and they have quite a large selection. The food portion of the store is nice and extensive. They have good prices overall for most items. If you are looking to save a buck or 2 there is always a few carts hidden close to the egg and milk section with "discounted" items. It is mostly bread and pies but I also picked up some laundry detergent. Tide for $5! Great deal! I usually get a few loaves of bread for only a dollar or two and then I just put a couple in my freezer to pull out later. It is a great find. In fact maybe I shouldn't be telling everyone this good secret...hmmmm They have an awesome selection of wines often discounted at amazing prices. The beer isle has some good local beers and some ciders. I was impressed with a few "healthy" isles with things like goats milk, organic yogurts, soups, and healthy juices. They have a lot of local things like bread and bagels. Some of the bagels are okay but overall I think this is one of the things freddy's needs to improve on. BAGEL selection! There really isn't any good whole wheat bagels and it always bums me out. The cashiers are okay most of the time but they can be a little slow and mess up sometimes. It can be annoying. I think I had to run my card once 4 times till the guy got it right. Anyways....this place is right down the street and is the main grocery store I go to. I go about once a week so it must be alright? The flower section on the left always has me looking and I got a killer bouquet for Easter. Lilies and roses for $12. Not bad. read more

You can buy just about anything here. Seriously! DVDs, furniture, scrapbook materials, and, oh yeah, food. The self-check out stations are HUGE and work pretty well. The bakery staff is genuinely friendly, and I like the seating area by the Starbucks. Bathrooms are, by and large, rather clean, given the amount of traffic they must see. read more

I like going to this smaller store because it is pretty close to my house and less crowded than the Hollywood store. Why 2 stars? They keep rearranging everything and cramming in more and more and more stuff that it is becoming increasingly difficult to navigate. I understand they need to maximize profits but cmon already with rearranging aisles every other week it is annoying! If I could rule the grocery store layout world, I would widen the damn aisles and group items together based on likeness. Also, get rid of all the clothes, this store had clothes years ago....got rid of them.....now they are back. I'm in the mood to complain I guess...all stores rearrange and remodel from time to time but for some reason this one feels chaotic and senseless. read more

I drive past two different Fred Meyer's on my commute, and sometimes I pick this over the fancier and bigger Gateway one. Why? Well, this one is much smaller, which means you can get in and out of the parking lot and the store much quicker. Yay for that. Being smaller, though, does create some disadvantages. The selection in almost every section is smaller than what you would find at a Gateway/Hollywood type store. And, as other reviewers have pointed out, there is no clothing section at this location, which is irritating when you need both a black sweater and a gallon of milk. Or maybe some flip flips and some carrots. Either way, you're out of luck. But most of the downsides seem not to relate to size. Most are, frankly, management issues. The staff are slow. Some employees are sweet and chipper, but many seem completely unengaged, and some seem just miserable. I get that--retail ain't fun--but I do expect a certain level of customer service. Also, even after the recent remodel, the store still somehow manages to feel somewhat dispirited and dirty. But I still shop here a lot, and lately the staff seem to be more engaged. So I believe there is hope. read more

I have had many good experiences with this store. The variety, prices, and assortment of natural and organic prices are unbeatable. One thing is missing, is the sushi train. I enjoy sampling here, I enjoy seeing what is new. I had some issues getting a prescription that I needed recently, and they made sure to take care of it, and got me my prescription as I was having an anxiety attack and was in shambles. They were very friendly despite me being in a state of concern. Thank you! I appreciate that they all have a Starbucks, because there is nothing like sipping on coffee while I shop, especially on a chilly day. The seafood is fresh, the customer service is great. this is the worst fred meyer of them all! it's so poorly run, it appears there is no actual management. never any baskets by the entryways. slow, unfriendly checkers uninterested in customer service. long lines at checkout. horrible restocking practices. a constant shift of item placement makes trips to this wasteland twice as long as need be. today i tried to point out to a "manager" that there were about a dozen used syringes by the east entry. her response was "why didn't you pick them up?" newsflash!! i'm not an employee. the ones on broadway & chavez are so much better! go there instead. why can't we give a business zero stars. avoid this fred meyer at all costs. their management appears to do the same. read more

i like this freddy's cuz they're never so busy u lose time on a busy day, like mother's day at 11:30 you can still have a doable flower selection and r always friendly long before they become nosy which is nice when ur not looking to be helped and slowed down when ur trying to be in and out and know where everything you need is be cuz they have a layout that's easy to navigate and remember since it's been exactly the same for like 15 years, or since i can remember at least. can't think of any reason not to go here other than the deli hardly worth mentioning considering it's virtual no existence. still been my go to for a long time tho. read more

Don't shop around closing time. They will lock the doors on you after you enter and then you can only exit out a single main door and you will have to walk all the way around the building to get to your car. If you know Freddies, that can be a long walk. You can also expect rude and unhelpful employees. read more

This is the worst Fred Meyer in the city. They are my neighborhood one so I have given them the benefit of the doubt so many times, but I just can't with them anymore. In general, I think it is really poorly managed. A rundown of some of the issues: -They are out of stock of things all the time. If something is on sale in the app, it will be gone for weeks. For the last 2 weeks they have been out of all canned organic vegetables. All peas, corn, green beans, all of them. Out of Freschetta Pizza on sale. Out of frozen shrimp on sale. Out of a third of my shopping list, most items were still on my list from last week. -Many of the berries, cherries, or grapes on the shelves shouldn't be sold. It is hard to tell by looking at them if they are not obviously moldy, but I throw a ton away because I get them home and they are soft and gross and likely not being stored in a cool place. I paid $6 for berries and threw half of them away tonight. -Some of the employees are very helpful, the others not so much. In the last couple of months you can't find folks in the aisles to help because they are all doing personal shopping. -The deli counter is so slow, it always takes at least 10 minutes even if you are the only one there. I actually just stopped buying deli meat. -They were out of the majority of their bulk section for a month. An employee told me they were switching vendors, and evidently they wouldn't stock the new vendor until all of the bulk bins were empty. I gave all this feedback to them directly in their customer survey so I am hoping some regional management can come in and help them improve. read more
