This place is bad. Don't go here. Bartenders were incredibly smug and entitled. Decor and overall bar feel is weird.

Hands down my favorite bar in the great city of Nueva York, conveniently within crawling distance of my apartment. Maker's Mark for $5 a pop - YES! Bluegrass jams in the back room. Great juke box selection. Awesome bartenders and laid back patrons. Remarkable lack of ironic hipsturds. Appropriately ratty restrooms with a sweet collection of wall scribblings. It was dark, just loud enough that we could laugh but not so loud we couldn't hear each other, and eclectic. My friend and I stumbled into this bar the other night after getting lost in Prospect Heights. I felt like I was in another world when I walked into this bar. The music was mostly jazz fusion but it was completely fitting with the bars atmosphere. It was filled with people enjoying each other's company, smoking, laughing, and generally having a great time minus the passed out Santa Claus who eventually got kicked out. The bartender was really nice and attentive and drinks were good I would definitely go back to Freddy's. read more

Ok. So this place is PHENOMENAL! The decor is adorable, the beer choices are on point, and can we just talk about the Freddy tots for a minute? I almost died with how delicious they were. The menu was so good I had to ask Siri heads or tails like 3 times just to decide what to order. read more

The drinks were very reasonable for NYC. My cousin and I found this place on Yelp and hit up their free comedy night. They had some very talented comedians perform that night--all for free. It smells a little weird in there but it's definitely worth a visit. Try to get there on comedy night if you can. It's the first and third Monday of each month I believe. read more

I come here for the music, which apparently varies wildly between classic soul, rockabilly and the blues. The live band's in the side room, which has an awkward saloon style door that's not made for you walk through with both hands around your drinks. Still, it's a good feel if you're there with friends to lament the end of a sad, sad week or lost romance. I just recently heard, during perhaps my third or fourth visit, that this was one of those places displaced by the Atlantic Yards project. One more point for Freddy's! read more

Came here for lunch...its kind of strange. I guess its more of a bar than a restaurant. You have to place your order for food in the back with the chef, then when its ready your number which he gives you comes up on a computer monitor and you go pick it up, along with the condiments and utensils. The bartender does serve you drinks at the table though and is nice enough to clean up after you are done. read more

We spent a week living in Brooklyn at a friend's place on Park Slope pre-honeymoon and visited Freddy's about five times. Once to watch the comedy they have regularly on a Monday night which I'd recommend - it's comics trying new material out but they're good, and hey, even if they weren't good it's free so you can't complain. We also spent the remainder of 2013 there with our friends and the atmosphere was really chilled, just what we were after - we definitely weren't up for being squished in Times Square amongst a million others. And we stopped by for a drink en route to places. They do happy hour - best to double check the details to be exact with times and service is good, really friendly. Freddy's has a great ambience and I wish we had a bar like this close to where we live. It would definitely be our local if we lived in Brooklyn. read more

Great bar! Incredibly friendly and hard working bartenders, who can handle a crowd. Really fun, laid back neighborhood diver bar with solid prices. Oh, and the Doggy fashion show was incredible, with great giveaways. You can tell that Freddy's cares about its establishment and patrons behind the last dollar and cents... Freddy's is a great bar for many reasons: excellent food with a kitchen open until 2am (quesadillas are my go-to, my boyfriend loves the reuben), live music/comedy and random events every night of the week - this summer they even closed down the street outside on a saturday afternoon for a doggy fashion show complete with catwalk, live music and drinking on the street! They also have a small outdoor patio, games & tvs and friendly staff. 4 stars instead of 5 because the crowd and the decor is very eclectic to say the least but if you bring your friends you can have a great time here! I like it a lot better than South next door who makes terrible grilled cheeses and has rude staff. One of the best local bars in the area! read more

Freddy's was great when it was on Dean in the shadow of the looming Barclay Center and they have managed to land face up and made the new Freddy's on 5th at 17th every bit as good, better in most ways. I love Freddy's! you can't beat $3 PBRs and they have a wheat beer on tap and awesome hot dogs and tater tots. I had chicken fingers once too but and they weren't gross and soggy with oil. everyone is so nice. the bartenders recognize you and take the time to remember your name and fill you in on the history of the bar. I always have a good time at Freddy's. The place is little strange and odd with some crazy stuff on the walls but it adds to its charm. They also make really great food. The cheese steak is really amazing. The bar staff is always friendly and the crowd there is usually pretty friendly. A mix of some lifetime locals like me and transplants. read more

Freddy's isn't the best bar in Brooklyn, it's the best bar in the universe. This is the new location for the old Freddy's, which was a legendary saloon and the epicenter of organizing against the Atlantic Yards development, which coldly seized the old bar through eminent domain. But it's back! And this new location is awesome. It now has an elegant patio and amazing amenities. It's a great place to book or see music. It essentially has the same spirit as the old Freddy's with new flourishes. Plus, the beers are still affordable and the weekend crowds are just as debaucherous. Warning: This is not a hipster bar, it's an awesome bar. People looking for a sleek yuppie hangout should probably go elsewhere. It oozes the character that so many bars try to replicate and has a warmth that stays with you even as you stumble home on a winter's eve after your eighth whiskey ginger. Freddy's rules. My favorite bar on the planet! Donald's video mash ups make me yearn for the days of VHS!! They have a back yard to smoke (but stay quiet drunkies!!) and fish tanks w/frogs in them to stare at while you contemplate life's injustices. The Back Room has something going on every night. For FREE!! I've seen a bunch of yukelele players, a karaoke night that left me crying in tears, and the best bar staff around. I came here for my birthday with high expectations according to the great reviews posted! To find a seat was a hassle because it's who ever gets it first which was annoying and would have been better if there was someone to seat u. The drinks were good but let's talk about the food. Way overrated! Spent $66 for it to go in the trash! Our table ordered the LGBT sandwich, chicken cutlet sandwich, cheeseburger, breaded shrimp, chicken wings, and a Ruben. Not one person at my table enjoyed their food. It was a hassle to even get the food because you have to work ur way through the crowd to get ur food from the back corner, and then try and work ur way back to where your sitting without someone knocking into you. Need a waitress! Overall we ended up relocating to our main spot we go to- Greenwood Park! Best place in Brooklyn I've found so far! I will no longer return to Freddy's! The best bar in New York City. Not only is it one of the most chill spots, with a really cool scene of friendly bartenders, regulars and frequenters but Freddy's is also a cultural hub of the neighborhood, let alone the borough, and the city. Freddy's hosts art shows, poetry readings, live music, and stand-up comedy featuring local artists and performers as well as a variety of other national and even international acts. It may so happen that you just pop in for a casual drink with some friends only to find yourself headbanging to a Bluegrass band from Norway rocking out in the backroom. This bar poors them strong and serves them cheap. There is no better place to take your buddy for their birthday. They will thank you for the amazing time you showed them for years after you've both become regulars. read more

Drink prices are good for the neighborhood, bartenders are pretty quick and seem to know what they're doing but I haven't tried the food, so I won't comment on that! I will say that the performance space in the back is rather small and the acoustics suffer as a result. So happy to see that a local bar in my neighborhood is actually a good bar that I would totally go to time and again. Whenever I walk past this place during the day, you can't really see inside, and the characters standing outside are literally ...characters that are definite daytime regulars. Since it was the weekend of Irene, we thought we would try a place close to home and didn't feel like going to a quiete bar close to us. We decided to try a new place. From the outside, I anticipated some divey place, but inside, it was almost everything I liked about a bar. There is back deck where they allow smokers to sit at one table. There is an amazing old decorated ceiling, they have TVs that DON'T PLAY SPORTS (yay) and instead cool film clips from the 50s or 60s. There are cheap PBRs, and Miller High Life for $3. The bar has a lot of booths, and is good for groups. The décor is cool and I would bring all sorts of types here. The music was unrecognizable to me, but not bad at all. Next door is a live venue place as well if you are into seeing small bands for free. Definitely a good place to go if you don't want quiete drinks. Oh, and the crowd was varied.
