Awful experience at the University District Free People today. My daughter and I grabbed a couple tops and stood in what any normal person would assume was the fitting room line. We waited 20 minutes with one person in front of us and several people behind us as well, only to find out the store uses some bizarre "waitlist" system that no one explains and isn't posted anywhere. When the associate finally came over, she called out a random name from a rack of clothes and just stood there waiting for someone who clearly wasn't even in the store to show up to try on clothes. I asked if this was the fitting room line, and she responded with a rude, condescending tone like we were idiots for not magically knowing their hidden process. Everyone around us looked just as confused. Instead of helping customers who were actually present in line, the 2 staff wandered around searching for a nonexistent person while the rest of us wasted our time. Completely disorganized, zero communication, and the attitude from the associate was the final straw. We dropped our items and walked out. This store needs a serious reset in customer service and basic common sense. Honestly, no wonder people just order online or these stores go out of business. We dropped our items and left. read more

Great little store at U Village. The store is right at the corner of the building so it's easy to spot. The layout of the room is essentially 2 rooms and a dressing room in the back. It's quite spacious and they have a lot of items in the store which is nice. The store layout was nice in that there wasn't a feeling of being overwhelmed with items or people. read more

Was in the store yesterday. Came in specifically for the pair of jeans in the window. I found them in my size and was just looking at other things... there were two associates on the floor. One was a manager and one was not. Neither acknowledged me. I was about 3-4 feet from them and could hear their conversation. The regular employee seriously asked her manager "is there anything I should be doing?". I thought to myself, YEA, you should be speaking to customers and selling product... I went in to U.Village's Free People the other day to buy a birthday present for my sister. To be honest I was a little concerned because (1) I was on a budget, and (2) I had read some mixed reviews about the store. Well I gotta tell you I walked out of there one happy gal. The staff was super nice. I never felt rushed or as if I was overloading them with too many questions about what looked good. The store was really busy but the young women running the shop were as cool as a cucumber. At one point a customer came in with a complaint about what I'm not sure, but Emma (who was also helping me) was able to calm her down and send the customer away happy. I was very impressed with selection and price and ended up buying a little something for myself too! Never felt pressured to buy anything. Tidy too. I give Free People five stars and two thumbs up! Walked into store 20 minutes prior to closing. 5 other groups were browsing. We weren't greeted nor offered any assistance. 10 minutes before leaving I was offered a fitting room to try on a dress, associate said they were closing soon. Jokingly said I would just put my pants around my ankles so I could be quick. As soon as I closed the curtain another associate asks if I'm trying as they are closing in 8 minutes. I open the curtain and say yes but I'd be quick, still she pesters me over the time. At this point I could have been done trying on but she wanted to keep talking so I placed the item on hold instead AS I'm buttoning up my pants talking to her. They weren't harassing any other shoppers but my sister and I. Service here as always been trash but that was enough for me to make the trip to Bellevue if needed. Whack selection, girls have too much ego, so little skill and professionalism. very highschool! read more

I love Free People's fashion. I am a frequent buyer online. The Uville store is very close to where I live. The reason I don't purchase there, is the snooty and rude personell. These girls are either all bunched up in a group, talking breaks or nothing that has to do with service related questions. Definitely, they do nothing that helps a costumer to be seen or heard. None of what these uninterested ladies do is help. If you asked them a question, they point to the item from behind their desk, or they seem generally uninterested. I wanted to purchase my daughters latest fashion discovery in the store, but the atmosphere is simply too upsetting to a costumer that's: 1) willing 2)has the funds 3) wants fashion advise ! All of this is very unfortunate, as it is US the CLIENTS THAT make it possible that you have a job in the first place, or your job and your salary exists because of us clients. Super dissatisfied- every time I'll try to enter that store. All of these girls I encountered are unprofessional shells. I can't believe the attitude! read more

What an awful experience. I had to return to the store not 24 hours after a purchase to have a security device removed because staff left it on. I wasn't excited about it, but love the ice cream at uvillage so I looked on the bright side. The girls working there totally insinuated I had stolen the garment. It was still in the bag they provided me, she rudely demanded a receipt after looking me up and down (I have tattoos and purple hair) and she never even said sorry. I walked away feeling so disappointed. I'm a nurse, I'm educated and in customer service and I would never treat another human being that way, let alone at work when the mistake was theirs. They could have easily begun with apologies, asked too look up my account for me to verify the purchase (or named a policy) and threw in another apology for good measure. Easy peasy. I love free people. I always shop in store and online. Recently just moved back to Seattle and had some items to return and exchange, went to the closest free people on my maps. I entered and was greeted, but once I went to the register the woman helping me acted disgusted with the items I was returning and was very rude. The items were all current style and never worn, I'm used to the Nordstrom level of friendliness and was very upset to be treated that way. I can't speak for every sales person at this store, but the one helping me was very unfriendly and has changed my mind about returning to shop there again. I'd rather shop online or go to another store because she made me feel that uncomfortable. And I normally love shopping. read more

I hope this is the right location, but because I don't live in Seattle, I'm not entirely sure. However, I just wanted to write a review to commend the customer service that I experienced. About 4 months ago, I called the University Village Seattle store to place a phone order for a jacket that they had in stock. I had been wanting this jacket for a while but as we all know, Free People can be pretty expensive so I like to do research and save up before making a purchase. The girl who placed my order was very helpful and nice and I thought that would be the last time I dealt with this store. Flash forward a week. I call the store because my package had not yet arrived and was told that UPS has supposedly delivered it. However, I hadn't actually received it. At this point, I was devastated and had a horrible feeling that some vagrant had stolen my package!!! Mail theft is pretty rampant in the city so this theory wasn't so far fetched. I endured months of negotiations with UPS (filing a police report for a stolen item, calling UPS every week, etc.). Throughout this ordeal, I remained in touch with Sara, a manager at the FP store, and I also spoke with Lara. Both were INCREDIBLY gracious and kind and I'm sure they were tired of me calling. Also- the jacket that was stolen was the LAST IN STOCK in what seemed like every free people store in the country. I ended up calling about 25 locations and no one had it. However, Sara, went out of her way and FOUND ME A REPLACEMENT. Really amazing. After about 4 months, Sara and Lara finally helped me get a refund. This is one of my go to brands so I'm quite disappointed with the experience I just had with this store. I'm in a strange/rushed situation at the moment where I'm needing a last minute dress for my sister's shotgun wedding. A couple days ago I found a dress I love online, which oddly wasn't available in any stores near me; so I called the U Village store for help. The girl I originally talked to on the phone was very helpful and offered to let me order a couple different sizes, have then shipped to the store and then I could turn around and return the one that didn't work out. I told her I was gonna look around and call back when I decided what I was gonna do. The next day I decided to go for it so I called them back and placed the order. I realized right after I got off the phone with the girl that I forgot to order the bralette (that also was unavailable in any store.... strange) to wear underneath for a more modest approach. When I called back Katie told me she "knows that we just got off the phone" and that she "couldn't have 3 packages arriving for me". She also had a nasty attitude and it just left a bad taste in my mouth. I considered canceling my order all together but I know how hard it can be to find dresses I like, especially on such short notice. I've noticed in the past that this store never has really had the "warm and fuzzy vibe" when you walk in, like some other shops near by. The staff seems cold and intimidating; never a hi or any other type of acknowledgement. I'm always in and out as fast as possible. Anyways, I wouldn't recommend this place as far as customer service. read more

I mostly order online, and if I have to return something, this location is my go-to store. They have the best return policy, and everyone in this store is really nice, especially Emma, who makes it quick and easy to return items. The vibes in this free people aren't the friendliest. Upon walking in I wasn't greeted. The two girls who were working seem tied up with another customer and her mom. Whatever, I shrugged it off. I browsed the racks and picked a few items to try on, still no sort of greeting. When I was ready to try my items on, the two associates were still chatting away with the same people. Fed up with waiting, I went into a room on my own. One of the associates came by to check on the other occupied rooms, but not mine. Granted, there wasn't an indicator that I was in the room (a big no-no for LP). After being completely ignored I went to the cash wrap to check out. The girl at the cash wrap (lindsey?) snobbishly says "She's checking you out over there". The girl who checked me out seemed friendly (but not at all genuine). I got the hell out of dodge. Still upset with my experience, I returned the item, the same snobbish associate (i assume she's the manager) was at the cashwrap. She acted like I ruined her day. She didn't offer to help me find any other items (Their selection is slim compared to other locations btw). At the end of the return she hands the reciept to my friend who came in with me, as if she's blatantly ignoring me. I'm not asking for much when it comes to customer service, but my experience at this location was the absolute worst. I'll be buying the brand from other vendors from now on. read more
