Do not come here! I stopped by here yesterday evening (Monday 12/23/25) at 8:30pm (30min prior to close) with my daughter. Her order seemed to go by without incident. When it was my turn I asked for a Halfbird Chicken Nachos but when I saw the little amount of chips he put on the plate (literally about 8-10) I thought it was ridiculous so I told him I'd go ahead and get the regular size. After that it was time for my order so I told the gentleman that I wanted a Halfbird Chicken Bowl with Spanish Rice and Refried Beans. He looked rather annoyed and proceeded to put Spanish Rice and Black Beans in the small plate. I simply told him "Oh, I had asked for Refried Beans". He then quickly took the entire plate of Rice and Beans and dumped it into the Black Bean container!!! As if I bothered him or something... Talk about cross contamination! He then proceeded to put a small itty bitty scoop of Rice, Beans and Chicken on the plate but after witnessing his obvious attitude and the litteral child-size portion I totally lost my interest in getting anything AT ALL to eat for myself. I told him nevermind and I no longer wanted anything, paid for the nachos ($13.09) and left. The customer service we received totally and utterly sucks. Management really needs to address this type of behavior. I left with the feeling that the young man who assisted us obviously does not like his job. I ordered a chicken quesadilla and the tortilla was barely warm and floppy. Everyone knows a quesadilla is supposed to be toasted on the grill so the tortilla comes out slightly crispy. They have lots of options, just be sure to read the signs, many of their deluxe items (potatoes, queso, etc.) cost more. They also have plenty of different sauces so you can get a new flavor every time. Go light on the death sauce though... it packs a punch. read more

A build your own burrito/bowl/salad type of place. I decided to go with a burrito bowl with chicken, cilantro lime rice, black beans, corn, cheese, and salsa. They give you a generous amount of everything you ask for. While I thought the portion was going to fill me up and put me into a food coma for the rest of the day, everything was surprisingly not too heavy and I was able to finish my whole dish. The ingredients tasted fresh so I assume they are making everything in house each day which is a great feature. I got a sweet tea to wash everything down with and it wasn't too sweet, which I was happy with. For people that want to order to go, the staff will get your order boxed up and put on a shelf by the front door for easy pick up. Plenty of seating both inside and outside on the patio, but the parking here can be a challenge, especially during peak hours. read more

It's hard to describe Freebirds without comparing it to Chipotle, which unfortunately meant that I had high expectations going in today for lunch. There was a long line, which was a good sign and to be expected at 12pm, but I'm not sure the waiting was worth so little food. They don't give nearly as much as Chipotle, sadly (at least for the bowls). I got very little rice and left feeling unsatisfied, even if the food was good. My friend ordered something that didn't come with rice and when she asked to add rice to it, they pretty much just sprinkled it on top. I came to Freebirds at 11101 burnet rd ste b130 Austin, TX 78758 after work around 6:20PM to pick up my husband's burrito order that was supposed to be done at 5:15pm. When I came in I got in line, when the person in front of me got called next the employee on the red shirt looked at me, and I politely told her that I was there for a pick up order, and a customer that had been there before us said she was there also for an order. She then told the employee that's wearing the blue shirt that we were there for the pick up orders and the employee answered with "they can wait" in a very rude manner. The 2 customers that were there waiting for their orders also heard that and they as well got surprised and even gasped. One of them even walked out. I didn't say anything, I'm not confrontational. The girl in the red proceeded to take 4 orders of customers that got there after I did. The girl in the blue came up to me and asked me the name of the order. I said "Bunjamin", she then walked away with out saying anything, and started doing a burrito (I'm thinking it's my husband's burrito.) She then went to the back, and came back after 3-5 mns to finish the burrito. When she finished it she calls out for "Evan." Meaning the whole time she was purposely ignoring me and being rude to me for no reason. Never once was I rude or complaint about the time. I just wanted her to give me the burrito that was supposed to be done from an hour earlier. I left the store upset and after telling my husband, he called the store. The Chipotle Killer. I went here for the first time today and had a really good meal. I ordered the salad(it's summer shredding season) with chicken & steak (double protein for more gains) with pico, tomatillo salsa, cilantro, creamy jalapeno sauce, and ranch (the best dressing). It was really good, i mean real good. The meat was flavorful, it was spicy but not overpowering, and the cilantro really made it over the top. I appreciated the cool atmosphere and staff, they even complimented my shirt (Batman FTW). I will certainly be back when I can partake in a burrito (#winterbulk). read more

But unfortunately I'm not going to be able to go back for a while, because they are obviously not taking Covid-19 seriously. -Employees not wearing masks while standing around talking to each other? Not okay. -Employees not wearing masks while helping customers who also aren't wearing masks? Not okay. -Employee moving directly from the cash register to making food without changing gloves or putting on a mask? Very much not okay. I waited in hopes that a manager would intervene, but it didn't happen. (Though someone did come out to chastise me for asking the guy making my burrito to put his mask on, so maybe someone was in charge. Interesting what he chose to worry about.) Delicious food? Yes. I'm really sad to say good bye to this location, especially since it became my weekly post-workout dinner treat. I was up to the point of visiting up to two or three times a week. It seems for the passed couple months that there's been a real drop in quality, particularly for the chicken. I kept coming back thinking they were having an off-day, off-week, off-month and that it would improve, but it's time to take a break. The tortilla maker often has burnt ash in it that gets cooked onto the tortilla. The grill also has this problem, but on top of old ash getting on the chicken, the chicken is often charred and burnt. I've had a piece of chicken that was over 50% black in my mouth and had to spit it out. The lettuce has been old and wilted and discolored to the point where it makes my entire burrito taste like it came from Taco Bell. The refried beans have been over-seasoned with a lot of garlic powder and salt to the point where my daughter refuses to eat it anymore and would rather throw it away and go to Taco Bell. A few weeks ago, we did communicate this to the business in order to give them a chance to fix the problem, and they gave us a couple free burrito coupons to make up for that days' bad bowls. The customer service has dropped as well as the old manager left. There's a rude overweight man who we've had negative encounters with, and last time I went, the builder (who is the new manager) accused a miscommunication on me to my husband when she just wasn't listening to us. There's a part of me that doesn't want to stop coming back because I remember how amazing it was a few months ago. But I need to be firm with myself. It's time. read more

I used to come here fairly often for lunch. It's close to my office, the portion size is really good for a reasonable price and I prefer the flavor profile to Chipotle. The brownies are also very good. I stopped coming after I received rude service from a worker during lunch rush, which coincided with Cabo Bob's opening nearby. There's really no reason to visit Freebirds now, unless it's after 9 PM or a Sunday (when Cabo Bob's is closed). This weekend I was craving a burrito, and Cabo Bob's had already closed up shop, so I decided to head up to Freebirds. It was about 15 minutes before closing, but I don't consider that a dick move for fast casual restaurants like this. They already have a line full of ingredients prepped, and have a team staffed to close the entire shop quickly. Our server's comportment seemed to match my inclination - she didn't appear peeved. Alright, off to a good start. At the very end of our burrito building journey, my partner asked for sour cream. Unfortunately there wasn't any more sour cream left on the line, so our burrito preparer had to head back to the walk in to grab some more. I think this really upset her, because when she returned she proceeded to dump a literal fuck ton of sour cream ALL OVER the burrito. As if that wasn't enough, she then decided to knead the burrito filling (seriously looked like she was in the midst of preparing a boule) before wrapping it up. I have never seen someone prepare a burrito like this. It seemed like she was intentionally sabotaging the burrito because we asked for sour cream. What we ended up with was a disgusting mixture of about 35% sour cream mushed in with all the rest of the toppings. The entire burrito was completely inedible, and I will never go back to this Freebirds in my life. Pro tip food service workers, if you don't like walking back to the walk in you should either keep the line stocked, or be a little more in shape so a little jaunt to the back of the store doesn't cause you so much anguish that you decide you have to ruin someone's meal in retaliation. Rating out of 10: 7 I have always loved Freebird's, and it amazes me how much it has expanded. I was in Austin for a work trip and stopped at the one on Burnet in north Austin for lunch. In typical Freebird's fashion, it was packed, but the line moves quickly. I went with my normal, chicken monster cayenne burrito. I love a full burrito, so I generally put everything on, including queso, guac, and sour cream. Sadly, they were out of queso when I was coming through the line (how is this even possible?!?), so I had to have my delicious burrito in a suboptimal state. Despite the lack of cheesy goodness, the burrito was delicious, and I was able to satiate my Freebird's craving. I have eaten at other Freebirds locations in Austin and Houston. I have never been dissatisfied until last night when I ate at their location on N. Burnet Rd. in Austin. I had a steak burrito bowl. The meat was cold and tough, the cilantro rice was also cold. I had grilled vegetables on it which were okay. I also had guacamole which cost extra. I was very unhappy with the quality of the food and the initial server who made my plate. She seemed like she would rather be anywhere else but work. The only other thing I had was a soda which is hard to mess up. I hope what I experienced was an anomaly. Since I have had good experiences at other locations I may try this location one more time. In reading other Yelp reviews, it appears there either really good or bad. Count this review in the bad category. read more

If I closed my eyes and took a bite of a Chipotle burrito bowl and a Freebirds burrito bowl with all the same ingredients, I would be able to taste the difference. The food here tastes homemade whereas Chipotle tastes like...well, Chipotle. I have to admit that after trying them both I still favor Chipotle, but it's because I've been eating there for so long that I crave those trademark flavors. The food here is still really good though, and one thing they do have over their competitor are more options. Want a tortilla? Great! Pick one of three sizes and then pick your flavor. You can do flour, wheat, spinach, or even cayenne. As for rice they have cilantro lime and traditional Spanish rice. Of course that hasn't even scratched the surface for other toppings like regular beans, refried beans, two kinds of cheeses, pico, queso, sour cream, a million sauces, guacamole or sliced avocado, and I believe I even saw one lady have them add a dash of lime juice? Needless to say, it's a lot. They can make nachos, quesadillas, and burrito bowls here as well. The best part is consistency. They use a full scoop for each item you ask them to add. No cutting corners here! They even added extra black beans to mine without me asking when I told them it would be meatless. (I'm not a vegetarian, I was eating light that night, but if I was that gesture would have been even more greatly appreciated). Pro Tip: Sorry Coke drinkers, but it's Pepsi products on their fountains. The fresh lemon and lime slices they set out though are a nice touch. I'm a diet coke drinker myself but diet Pepsi with a squirt of lime isn't half bad. Did I mention they have dessert too? As long as you never use their online ordering system, this location is just as good as any other Freebirds. Food is consistently good - better than similar places like Chipotle. And yes the quality has gone down slightly over the years but that is true of all Freebirds locations. I assume it's just a symptom of expanding their chain. It's still reliably good though especially the meat and rice. Just whatever you do don't use their online ordering system if it's going to be the least bit busy. The pickup time it gives you will be entirely arbitrary. So when you show up on time you'll be standing around with your thumb... stowed away, watching dozens of people show up, order, pay, and peace out before you get your food. And if you have to be back at work at a certain time then you will also be hungry and out nine dollars. read more

I like that I can now get a burrito sized such that I don't waste such a ridiculous amount of food - I don't eat leftovers, so I hated having that super-huge freebird-sized burrito, only to throw half away. Now I can get the little baby bird, and only throw a small amount away. Thanks! The options are so great that I end up having a hard time deciding on what to put into the burrito - everything looks so nice and fresh, and the service is always pleasant. Beware: this location (just like all the others I have ever been to) is super-busy at lunch. Parking is acceptable, and there are other options in the strip mall there that are doable if Freebirds is totally out of control. Definitely an added bonus! read more
