I really liked Suerte, we came here because of the $125 chase credit. We tried the suadero tacos, barbacoa, and sweet potatoes. Yesterday was Cinco de Mayo and how do you let this highlighted time of the year escape without celebrating. I met a friend at Suerte for a late bite and drinks...our first time there. Suerte is a contemporary Mexican restaurant in East Austin led by Chef Fermín Núñez. The restaurant is known for its house made masa, regional Mexican techniques, and a mezcal drinks. We both got margaritas and shared an appetizer. The drinks were ok but not distinctive for the price. I actually could not taste the tequila in my margarita...felt like drinking margarita mix. Our server, Mimi, said it was because the tequila was so smooth. The lamb appetizer was also ok. [[HIGHLIGHT]]From the street Suerte looks like a medium size restaurant. However, when you walk in you are surprised by its large size[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. The restaurant was packed with people when we arrived and had about 200+ people occupying the tables. Amazing meal. Went with a group based on multiple recommendations, it was incredible. We let the waiter decide for us because everything sounded so good, and everything was as good as it sounded. The only area we over ruled the waiter was on the goat barbacoa, we liked it so much we had to have a second order. I also personally loved the suadero tacos, pescado and roasted chicken (so tasty). On my recent trip out to Austin we had a night out on the East Side and were able to snag a reservation at Suerte through OpenTable thanks to Sapphire Reserve Exclusive Tables, a perk of my Chase Sapphire Reserve card. Suerte is known as one of Austin's top restaurants serving up incredible Mexican flavors. The service and food were great, and my favorite bites were the Suadero Tacos and Sopes Campechanos. Honestly, there wasn't a bad bite the entire meal and the cocktails were just as impressive. Third or fourth time here (and we live an hour away). Soooo good! We ate "outside" this time. They keep it very comfortable even when it's cold out. The music is great. The food is fantastic. The drinks are amazing. Not inexpensive but reasonably priced and well worth every penny. Our bill came to $300 for the four of us, and that included appetizers, drinks, entrees and dessert. I highly recommend family style eating here to taste more of the menu. We order different items on every trip. But we always get the Suerte tacos (four to a plate). Everything is extremely scratch made. I mean... they don't start with masa... they start with corn. Everything made with lovev and expertise. There were at least 10 chefs in the kitchen and a the bar was full of bartenders. Everyone was busy and productive. Their vegetable dishes are outstanding, too. I'd honestly go back to Austin just for this place. Soo good!!! It was our first time visiting Austin and a couple of friends highly recommended this restaurant so we knew we had to go. They're known for their masa (IYKYK), which meant we had to try a little bit of everything. We started with the mini sopes de chorizo, absolutely amazing! For entrées, we ordered the Suadero tacos (their most popular item for a reason), the Carnitas, and the sweet potato that our waiter insisted we couldn't skip. All I can say is WOW. This food will actually leave you speechless. Trust me, even if you're not a sweet potato person, if it's on the menu, you MUST get it. Make sure that you save room for dessert. We tried the tres leches with dulce de leche and the chocotaco and both are a solid 10/10, fire. The space is big but very busy, so definitely make a reservation ahead of time. This was such a lovely brunch with my friends. Mostly cause I was surprised by them highlighting my celebration on the menu. Such a sweet little detail. Me and a group of 3 others had a Sunday brunch here. Between arrival and leaving, it was a full 2.15 hour rendezvous so plan for parking accordingly. There are several pay to park lots around but cost ($15-30) since Suertes lot only accommodates 5ish cars. Between the 4 of us we shared 3 entrees and 2 apps. We were absolutely stuffed. The menu is constantly rotating so you may or may not have the same dishes if you return. We shared a guacamole which seems to be on the menu a lot, it is tasty and easy to nibble on throughout the meal. It also makes for a nice pairing with the tacos we had, suadero tacos which were confit brisket was so good. I haven't had a bad dish at Suerte yet and always try something different when dining here. This time I definitely got out of my comfort zone and tried the chicken with mustard butter sauce. My thoughts...chicken was tender and cooked perfectly but i didn't fancy the mustard sauce. It wasn't bad and everyone else enjoyed the sauce but it wasn't for me. The aguachille was soooo damn good. Oh my God the food was absolutely divine. While pricy, this place is a must-go at least once in your life to try a unique, high quality blend of authentic Mexican cuisine in a Texas theme. The staff was professional as you'd expect in an upscale place and me comfortable. For the pastries - do not be deceived by the cruller. The inside was moist and flavorful which contrasted the crunchy outside complimented by the simple cinnamon (masa) glaze. I will be getting this again to go :) The pastel and concha also tasted great and even better when paired with a drink. I haven't seen raspberry dust or a vanilla streusel in a coffee cake before. This was a new sweet flavor profile I haven't had before (it was good). Now onto the savory - every ingredient in the salmon tostada was fresh (similar to a Lox but not really). The chilaquilas verdes was fantastic with the unique mix of a refried egg, beans prepared with beef tallow to give layers to the flavors melting in my mouth I especially enjoyed the barbacoa tacos and the escabenche to compliment it. They walked us through the whole menu and made recommendations and were super attentive all night. My order and ratings are below. Ceviche de Manzana - 10/10, I have had a lot of ceviche before and this is my top. It was incredibly fresh and the fruit was so juicy I could have eaten 10 more of these Suadero tacos - 10/10, this is what they are known for and really showcases their homemade masa. It had the best flavor and the meat was tender but crispy. It could have used some slight more heat to it but still incredible Tamal de Rajas - 10/10, the sauces on this were incredible and it had plenty of sauce which I loved. I've been wanting to try Suerte now for a couple of years, but the last couple times I've made reservations I had to cancel because we had different friends visiting from Mexico who both had a strict "No Mexican Food" rule during their visits (not because they didn't think ATX has legit Mexican, but more because they have Mexican food every day and are visiting America for American (and Asian!) food. Although we did go to Kerby Lane once for that "good ole American breakfast" and one of them did order chilaquiles anyway..but I digress... Finally was going to brunch at Suerte and I was trying to moderate my expecations due to how hyped Suerte is. Was not needed at all. We were all blown away by how good the food was! The three of us got the suadero tacos, pozole, brisket hash, tuna hibiscus aguachile, and a conchita to go. This place is legendary - the food was all incredible, although the pozole might have had a little more fat in it than was expected. Can't rave enough though about the tacos and brisket has (corn tortillas are amazing0. The tuna was like a mexican verison of Nobu's yellowtail sashimi and it was bonkers. The vibe and decor was beautiful and the service was great. This is one of those places, especially because we were being cool in East Austin that makes you say, Wow, Austin really is an incredible place. Dropped in on a whim after getting back from a flight. We were jonesin' for some Mexican food after being away. This spot for the bill and we were blown away. The staff is friendly and very knowledgeable. They knew the menu inside and out and made great recommendations. To call the suadero tacos an upscale version of street tacos is a disservice. They were amazing and so flavorful. The Tlayuda De Hongos was the best flauta style dish you could ask for. The bartender suggested a green salsa and lime to brighten the dish and it elevated completely. We barely missed happy hour, but probably good since we would have taken advantage of the delicious looking cocktails and might have needed a ride home. The menu is small but cultivated and honed to a perfect razors edge. Can't wait to take friends to the place when they come visit. I made a reservation at this restaurant because it's part of the Chase Sapphire reserve dining collection, which helps also offset some of the costs. This is a nice restaurant and would otherwise run about $150+ for two ppl. The plates appear to be designed to be shared tapas style, and following the recommendations of the server, we ordered about one dish per section of the menu. We started with the ceviche, which is probably one of the best things of the night. Big chunks of snapper, nestled among chunks of grapefruit and apple, all sitting in a very refreshing citrusy juice. This appetizer feels very light and is perfect to start the meal off. There was no cracker or chip to eat the the ceviche with, which felt a little weird at first. However, by the end of the meal I had had so many corn tortillas that I'm glad that the start of the meal did not have any additional starch. Next, we had the huitlacoche quesadilla and this famous suadero tacos. I loved the suadero tacos more, and my partner loved the quesadilla more. The tacos come piled with a good amount of wagyu brisket and the flavor is super well developed with both fattier bits and crispier bits. The fattiness was nicely offset by the tangy avocado and the little onion bits in it. I don't normally prefer corn tortillas, but these were excellent and you could tell they were freshly made. At the same time, I wouldn't say they were my favorite tacos in all of Austin. The quesadilla came with a charred onion sauce on the side, which was delicious but also should be used sparingly because it could overpower the quesadilla otherwise. The asada main dish was really well prepared. Perfectly pink meat with a super charred crust that made everything taste just a little bit smokey. Which reminds me, the Rosa peligrosa was delicious-- mezcal base so it is smoky but balanced well. The Luna sangre mocktail was also very well balanced and not too sweet due to the quinine added in. Finally, we loved the tres leche which seemed like it was probably the best value as it was surprisingly large. Overall, this was a really nice restaurant for a special occasion. Each ingredient is treated well and allowed to shine without over complicating things. There are about 15 or so parking spots right outside the restaurant that is free, otherwise you'd have to find parking on the street or nearby paid lots. Apparently one of the chefs had created a smashburguesa we were looking for so the only thing I had remembered from the article was the fact that they mentioned 'Suerte'. Sister restaurant of Este, Suerte features a brunch focused menu with the same amazing service you expect at Este. I recommend the salmon tostada. It comes with cold, smoked salmon and a caper chile relish. I didn't get the spiced goat cheese, but be sure to ask for it. The frijoles con veneno is worth a try. The seared panela cheese with the refried beans make for an elevated bean and cheese taco. The veggie quesadilla is an absolute sleeper on the menu and it's a must try. The sweet papas is their grilled sweet potato option, but I wish they would do small smaller chunks of sweet potato. The milanesa torta was a nice touch featured on their homemade bolillo. Although it sounds kind of blasphemous, I wish they use chicken thighs instead. Their suadero tacos are the bangers of the menu. It can get very crowded and parking is atrocious; but if you can get a coveted reservation you're in for a treat! The tacos are hard to beat and all of the crudo/ceviche dishes are stellar. My fiancé's parents were visiting and we decided to try Suerte to celebrate our engagement. We'd never been before, so expectations were high -- sadly, those expectations mostly weren't met. We arrived right at 5 pm (exactly our reservation time) and were seated immediately, which was good. The ambiance inside is really cute and it is well-decorated. Our server, Brandon, was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The drinks were mostly solid -- I had the Rosa Peligrosa, and that was tasty. However, the food fell short in many ways. We started with the guacamole. The portion was small, and the chips were so hard that trying to break off pieces was more work than it should have been. Next we ordered the Tuna Hibiscus Aguachile, and that was one of the few hits: the sauce was excellent, and the server kindly brought soft tortillas so we could dip into what remained. That made that dish more enjoyable. The suadero tacos were probably the best thing we ordered -- flavorful, nice textures -- though pricey: four tiny tacos for $25 felt steep. Unfortunately, many of the other dishes were disappointing. The Milanesa de Pescado was dry and bland. The flautas lacked filling (my piece had just cheese, despite the menu listing meat). The carnitas were also dry and tough to get through. Two of us couldn't finish our serving of them. All told, we were underwhelmed. Given how much hype this place has, we left feeling: "Is that it?" Came to Suerte for an anniversary brunch and it was a great choice. Solid food and good service all around. The environment was definitely more upscale but still causal. The Suadero Tacos were the highlight of the meal. You get the acidity from the guacamole, then the flavor of the meat, and it all comes together with the corn tortilla. I'd definitely recommend them. The Tuna Tiradito was really fresh. The salsa had a nice acidity that paired well with the tuna and the crispy tortilla chip. We also got the Brisket Hash which came with tortillas to build your own breakfast tacos. The brisket was delicious and cooked well. The frozen cocktail was light and refreshing, perfect for a hot day. Our waiter brought out a concha on the house for our anniversary which was a nice touch. We went here for our 7 year anni lunch and it was great! Definitely higher end but casual vibe dinning. We ordered the suerte tacos, melon cocktail, tuna botana, and wagyu hash. We shared between my fiance and I and it was a good amount for us! My favorite was the tacos!! Super savory but a little acidic kick from the guac as well. Service was amazing. The flavors took me back to Mexico the music was soft in the background I enjoyed listening to the songs as I devoured my meal. It was such a delight to invite my son to lunch and catch up on our traditional and cultural history We had the best service our waiter was on top of his game. I made a reservation at Suerte to enjoy the weekly Lucky Hour from 5-6 p.m. with discounts on alcohol and libations. Suerte is a restaurant inspired by the people, cooking techniques, and flavors of Mexico. I was particularly interested in the $10 signature cocktails. My reservations were for outside on the patio but the staff moved us inside because it was so hot. The restaurant has a relaxing Santa Fe decor vibe with a lot of lovely dried flower arrangements and wall tapestries. My favorite margarita is the Don Dario with reposado tequila, tamarind, sarsaparilla and lime. We also tried the Sandía Cooler. Took advantage of the lucky hour special and had an assembly line of drinks. We split several items from the Masa Y Mass section of the menu including their specialty Suadero Tacos with confit wagyu brisket, black magic oil, avocado crudo, onion and cilantro. Had the black magic oil on the side to control the spiciness of the dish. The meat is so tender and has a great flavor with the avocado on top. Also ordered Costra de Res which is a braised short rib y cabesa, salsa brava, quesillo costra, onion and cilantro. All the veggies looked super appealing on the menu so we ordered all of them. I have had Peaches Y Feta before with caskey orchard peaches, feta, basil, hoja santa green goddess, sesame. This is probably one of my favorite items on their menu. The Ejites a la Parilla grilled green beans, okra, shishitos, costeño macha, lime had a bit of bite to it but was very tasty. The Cerviche de Tomate cherry y heirloom tomatoes, cucumber, pickled tomatillo, agua de tomate, chile oil was a hit with the sauce being so flavorful that we wanted to keep it and use it with other dishes! We had a bit of a miscommunication with the server and 2 of our veggies didn't get ordered, but it was cleared up quickly. Other than that, attentive and friendly service and was patient with me when my plus one did not arrive on time. Always enjoy my dining experience at Suerte for its use of local ingredients from local farmers to achieve something delicious and uniquely East Austin. read more
