One thing is very certain: You won't leave Mama Betty's hungry. They have quite an extensive menu with choices for every taste. The staff is pleasant and attentive without being intrusive. The interior is clean and comfortable and our dinners were attractively presented and served hot. I had the grilled shrimp tacos and I have never seen that many shrimp on a taco . My wife ordered different tacos, one beef and one cheicke. We both had difficulty finishing our plate and when we got hme, we napped like a Python that had swallowed a donkey. Let's get this out of the way first: the food slaps. For Tex-Mex, this place absolutely hits. Enchiladas Tejas (GF) with chicken were rich, comforting, and full of flavor. The chicken was tender and well-seasoned, topped with a solid chile con carne and served with rice and beans that didn't feel like an afterthought. The chicken & beef fajitas--mesquite-grilled and beautifully marinated--were juicy, flavorful, and came with all the fixings. The flour and corn tortillas tasted homemade (or very close), which always earns points. The standout for me was the Navigation pechuga gravy with onions, mushrooms, jalapeños, and tomatoes. Incredible flavor--but not nearly enough of it. When something's that good, you notice when it's missing. The chimichanga was crispy, cheesy, and topped with chile con queso, and the Spanish rice deserves its own shoutout because it was . The carnitas tacos were fresh and balanced--corn tortillas loaded with roasted pork, radish, onion, cilantro, and spicy tomatillo salsa. And the chips and queso? Dangerous. Perfectly crispy, super corny chips that didn't need salsa to shine. Now for the reason this is 3 stars instead of 4. I called ahead at 4:30 pm for a party of 10 and was told we'd be added to the waitlist. We arrived at 6:00 pm, waited nearly an hour to be seated, and watched tables clear and other parties get sat--including spaces that could've handled us. The other 4 in our party arrived at 6:18pm minutes later, which should have worked seamlessly. It didn't. There was clearly a disconnect, and no meaningful apology. Waiting that long--especially after calling ahead--is frustrating and avoidable. Our server, Lance, was fine but not warm or engaged. The whole table felt like something was off. Amazing food. Went on Sunday after Easter service because we were craving something a friend brought us during a recent meal train but felt it a bit lacking. First, the menu needs a rewrite for content and clarity. For example, buying fajitas doesn't list guacamole and based on size, single, for two and family you get more sides of rice or beans. There's no definition of how much actual meat you get and our server couldn't provide that information beyond a rough estimate. Second, the fajitas we got of family size and for two portions for 7 were not consistently cooked. We asked for medium rare and got about 25% at that with the ones in the center at a more well done. Again, the multiple tiny sides were more obnoxious than anything as it's legit beans and rice unless you want to upcharge. The cilantro lime rice tastes like nothing so skip that and go for abuelita rice which has a hint of flavor. Overall, the butter/gravy that go on the fajitas is the real winner but again a menu where you overbuy and misunderstand (that doesn't even list extras like guacamole or a simple small queso) was beyond frustrating. I asked if they had bar seating & was told it was first come, first serve with the full menu available. We found seats at the bar, on the outside & cancelled our table. Had a great experience with Inta as our bartender/server. We told her it was our first visit & she pointed out the menus and drinks. We were promptly given ice waters and chips & salsas. Three flour tortillas, which have a nice char on them, while super soft and pliant is ready to encase moist chicken, some refried beans, rice and the veg with sour cream in a cute red chip cup. Good fajitas on a sizzling platter, but I did find the flavor profile oddly sweet (maybe from the onions?), which was a bit detracting. In Austin for a work trip and just stumbled upon this gem and I'm so happy I did! I came during dinner and the place was very busy for a week night but the vibe was great and it smelled so good inside so I ordered my meal to go. The server who took my order was very friendly and the food was made so fast! They packaged the food perfectly as well! All of the hot and cold items were in separate containers. AND THE CHIPS ! Friends invited me to lunch at their favorite Tex-Mex spot... Mama Betty's. I have never heard of this establishment and I am so grateful they introduced me to it. We sat on the deck outside and it was a perfect day for sitting outside and enjoying some fantastic Mexican food. Listen as a self proclaimed Texmex/ Mexican food ambassador I wanted to be critical of this place and cannot say one bad thing about it other than it's always packed. We absolutely recommend coming here and getting fajitas or enchiladas or Barbacoa quesadillas maybe all of the above if you bring enough people because it's all delicious! The restaurant itself is very well kept and clean. It does get a little bit loud, but that's only because it's always packed to the doors. Mama Betty's has a really fun outdoor patio space and always has great music playing. It's an awesome establishment to bring families kids Little League teams, office meetings whatever you want you won't disappoint anybody you bring. No matter who we have gotten as far as the wait staff they have all been extremely friendly, kind and helpful when it came to choosing something on the menu--everybody here has a wonderful and warm personality. They really have put together a home run of a restaurant and I hope that they stay around for a long time. Last, but not least the drinks are outstanding, and everything is very competitively and fairly priced. I've only written 1 yelp review in my life (and it was positive) so I'm not typically a complainer, but this experience was so disappointing, it needs to be shared. Have kept this place in the rotation since it opened, while overpriced for what it is, food and service are at least typically decent at the very least. Did an online order today around 4:45pm for a pick up at 6:45pm. Got a text at 5:15 saying more order was ready. Thought this was clearly a mistake, called the restaurant. Explained to the kid who answered, he could not give me a straight answer if my food was made early by mistake, just kept saying "pick up is in the back." When further pressed, he finally confirmed my food wasn't made yet and the text was a mistake, but hardly seemed like he actually checked anything. Trusted they were doing the right thing and didn't make a scene at the restaurant when picking up. I should have, because upon unpacking the food, this food had clearly been sitting around for 2 hours. The quesadilla was cold, tortilla was hardening and the cheese was this nasty cold congealed texture. The bottom of the tacos immediately bottomed out when picked up because the tortilla had sat in a grease bath for 2 hours. Rice and beans cold. Was just a mess and not what I paid for, borderline inedible. Mistakes happen, but most disappointing is that I called, tried to get them to rectify, but was either blown off or this is standard practice (either way it's terrible service). Won't be back, if I wanted cold, greasy, inedible slop for a pick up order, I'd go to Taco Bell across the parking lot and at least pay 1/3 the price. read more

I've love the place since they opened, and I met the family who runs it, and they just keep giving me reasons to love them more. Brunch cocktails! The raspberry mimosa was delicious and light. I'm not usually a morning drinker, but I do love a good mimosa. I got the Cinthya's Vasquez #3 Deluxe, and the barbacoa was delicious! I ordered my eggs fried over medium, and they were perfectly cooked. I asked for the potatoes to be seasoned only with salt and pepper, and they were. I didn't know the plate came with refried beans, but they were a delicious bonus. I will definitely be back for brunch here again! I've always had amazing service here, and this time was no different. You can't be this place for a cheery atmosphere, and there is a huge outdoor seating area if you prefer that. read more

We were very disappointed with our dining experience here. We came based on the reviews, and arriving and seeing how many patrons were waiting for seats, we figured it was going to be great. Nope. The tortillas were very thin and didn't taste good. They didn't hold up well for my chicken tacos, and seeing as they didn't have good flavor, I put them aside and just ate the taco fillings. Also, the chicken in the taco was unremarkable. The vegetables, however, were fresh. The steak quesadilla wasn't super tender, but was still easy enough to chew. It was well-seasoned. The churros dessert was a disaster. They were drenched in chocolate and caramel sauce. The plate looked like a Pollack painting. If we had been 8 years old this would have been a dream! The churros themselves, once we got off what sauces we could, were tasty, but that was difficult. I shouldn't have to fight to get to the food. Definitely do not order this is you want to eat a churro. Finally, this was a busy evening, so our server was not around much. We went without needed napkins at one point. I'll chalk that up to it being a busy time, but still... As we left, we looked at each other and agreed, the wait to get in, the challenge we had parking, and now this meal tell us that we absolutely are not coming back. read more

We have been to Mama Betty's about four times since they opened and have had mediocre to good experiences. I would give them an additional star but that variability in practically everything is what's causing me to hold off. FOOD: The free chips & salsas here are fantastic. We typically order 1-2 drinks each, with a preference for their margaritas. We usually get two entrees and one appetizer. The food is relatively consistent except for the tortillas & salsa. One day you could fresh & warm tortillas & perfectly flavored salsas, other days you'd get tortillas that are stiff and cracking & salsa that wasn't sautéed enough before pulsing it through the blender. The drinks are always good though. SERVICE: This is where Mama Betty's shine through for us, although other reviews seem to state otherwise. We've had nothing but really good servers every time we come here. We could have the warm & amicable server who makes you feel like family & other days we have the quick & efficient server who delivers prompt service. Either one is fantastic. AMBIANCE: The ambiance is nice, thoughtfully decorated to embody the same rambunctiousness of fiestas, peppered with a bunch of TVs playing sports every other step. All that to say, this place is always buzzing with a good crowd and good energy. Would I recommend it? Sure. Just order less than you think you need.
