Chuy's has several Austin metro locations and I always enjoy the food. The salsa has a great kick to it, and you really can't beat their creamy jalapeño, they serve unlimited of both for free. The restaurants are decorated with so much fun personality, velvet paintings of Elvis, hubcaps covering the ceiling, and all kinds of quirky touches that make it a great place to sit and look around while you eat. They're also consistently clean and the wait staff is usually great. Some of my favorites are the chicken fajita quesadilla, the green chile fried chicken, and the Chicka-Chicka Boom-Boom chicken enchiladas. I also really like their homemade tres leches for dessert. It's a spot I keep coming back to when I want something flavorful and reliable. read more

Not a fan of this location. My party was able to check in online and be seated in less than five minutes on a Saturday, which was great. Unfortunately, that's about the only good thing that occurred during our visit. After that, we were seated and only visited by our server a few times for our drink order, food order, and the check. No chip refills, one drink refill, nothing else. Thankfully we didn't need much but it was still odd. The only reason I'm really writing this review is because I found a hair in my food which was entirely off putting. We already had spotty service that evening so I didn't even bring it up, just left what was left on the plate, paid and left. I've never had this happen at any of the other locations and this was the first time this has ever happened at this location. First time trying Chuy's, and I didn't even know they started in Austin! I was really pleased with both the pickup experience and the food. Everything was ready quickly, still nice and warm, and the portions were generous. The meal also came with free chips and salsa, which was a great bonus, especially with their reasonably priced menu. I got the famous steak burrito. I'll admit I didn't have super high expectations at first (oh well the Darden ones), but it turned out to be really good. While I was waiting for my order, I noticed lots of people leaving with to-go boxes and big smiles on their faces, and the restaurant was pretty busy too. That's usually a very good sign that people enjoy coming here. Overall, a great first experience. Good food, quick pickup, big portions, and a solid value. I do wish they will roll out mobile app and rewards program so it would be a bit easier and give more incentive to order. read more

I've been remiss updating my review. I've come back a number of times since my last review and the restaurant has improved greatly. My dining experiences have been very good. My orders have been correct, as have my beverages. I've also had solid service. Most of the time our servers have had pleasant personalities, but sometimes they are just direct and looking to get the job done. That's fine; serving isn't an exciting profession. I love that Chuy's has monthly frozen drink specials. Recently I've enjoyed Tito's frozen lemonade and a blackberry margarita. So tasty! Our waiter was very nice (tall guy with brown hair). However when I tried to surprise my boyfriend with a birthday thing it was really awkward. I asked the hostess and she wasn't sure if they did something for bday. Then she found my table after about 10 mins just looked at me and said "yes we do" and then walked away. Everyone was confused because I was TRYING to surprise them. Food was good, I enjoyed the al carbo beef tacos a lot and would probably order again. The chicken burrito was very mid but the green chile rice was very good. Salsa was proper spicy. Birthday surprise never came. Margs were not very strong. read more

Thanks Chuys for ruining our Halloween night. We looked at the website and it said no wait so we didn't check in. Got to the host and Chase said 15-20 minutes. We explained what the website said and he said that's a frequent problem. I asked for the manager because he was so arrogant. He asked why and said he would pass our complaint along to the manager. I know that didn't happen and the host just stood around doing nothing. I asked again for a manager but still no response. I could not be lass happy with this situation. I've been coming to Chuy's for about 14 years, from when I was 13 years old until now, and this was honestly the first time I've ever had such a poor experience. The food has always been consistently great, which is why this visit was so disappointing. I was treating a friend to a birthday dinner and using the opportunity to reunite with old high school friends, so I was really looking forward to the evening. Unfortunately, the service made what should have been a special occasion feel like a bust. I don't blame our server at all--she appeared to be covering an entire section by herself and was clearly doing her best. However, it took a very long time for drinks to arrive after they were ordered, and even longer for my friends' drinks after they joined me. Multiple items were forgotten throughout the meal, and everything from ordering to receiving drinks and food took much longer than expected. I believe it was close to an hour before our food arrived. At one point, I got up to look for a host because we were considering moving to a different section. We had not been informed when we were seated that we were in a section that was apparently not full service. When I went to the host stand, no one was there, and our server came up to me and let me know that the food would be out soon. By that point, however, we had already been waiting nearly an hour, and there were still items that had been forgotten or were missing. My friend had her young daughter with her and needed to get home, and I also had a flight coming up and other commitments, so spending that much time waiting was frustrating and inconvenient. The food was excellent as always, but management needs to do a better job staffing busy shifts. One person should not be expected to run an entire section alone on a Friday night, especially during graduation season when the restaurant knows it will be busy. Whether it's full service or not, there needs to be at least one additional person helping. The server was clearly overwhelmed, and both the staff and customers suffered because of it. I hope this was an isolated experience, because after more than a decade of dining here, I've never encountered service this slow before. read more

My daughter, granddaughter, and I had a late Saturday lunch at this Chuy's location. We were seated immediately in a booth near the back. Our waitress took our drink orders and came back with beverages, chips and salsa before taking our orders. It took quite some time to get our food. Meanwhile, we enjoyed the complimentary chips and 2 different salsas. I had the chicken flautas, my daughter had deluxe chicken enchiladas and my granddaughter had a kids meal of a bean and cheese burrito. The kids meal included a drink and dessert. My flautas were crispy with tender chicken inside, and came with sides of refried beans and green chile rice, plus scoops of sour cream and guacamole and some shredded lettuce and tomatoes. The beans were way too salty but everything else was good. My daughter enjoyed her enchiladas, and my granddaughter ate about half of her huge burrito. She managed to find room for dessert, an orange push-up (the other choice was vanilla ice cream). All in all, we had an OK meal. Tried one more time. My family has been going to all of the Austin locations of Chuy's for over 40 years, including each new location as they opened. Since the acquisition, Darden keeps eliminating standard serving styles and downgrading items in the name of efficiency. What happened to the chips? They aren't the same and lack the delicious flavor they once had. The flautas are no longer served with ranchero sauce on them - I've been ordering the comida deluxe (in a rotation of other dishes) for decades, and now the flautas are served naked on it? Why? And the beloved Chuy's breading that used to be standard for the chile rellenos is now a generic panko breading like every other chain restaurant in America. It's amazing the inside still looks like Chuy's, considering the newer locations (mueller, for example) aren't the Chuy's vibe at all, but I guess it would be extra work to strip the old decor from the long-standing restaurants that are still making money. Please stop changing the recipes and flavors that made Chuy's Chuy's. It's not a standard Tex Mex restaurant chain -- it was an Austin original that was recognizably different in flavor from the rest of the Tex Mex choices in Austin, but it is rapidly becoming forgettable as Darden continues to cut corners and eliminate stylings that made it memorable for decades. We came here this weekend with some friends for brunch--first timers though we have been to the original location on Barton Springs. Everything was awesome until our main dishes came out: we got seated right away, dug the quirky vibe, and had a super sweet and attentive server. The frozen marg tasted good and we were beyond impressed by the queso (Torchy's-level good). So, off to a good start! First thing that threw us off was that it was brunch time, and OK fine, there is no dedicated brunch menu, but no eggs AT ALL. Nothing! No migas, no huevos rancheros, nada. Seriously? Why? We settled on two dishes that sounded appetizing but they were really unimpressive when they arrived at the table. You could tell that both had been sitting under a heat lamp for a while because the sauces and the beans had formed a firm kind of film around them. The veggie enchiladas had veggies that were pretty hard so that was unpleasant, but we did like the sauce and the beans and rice were pretty good despite the fact that they were supposed to come out with cilantro rice and didn't. The King's Memorial Combo (previously The Elvis Presley?) was better, but nothing on the plate--and there were plenty of items--truly sang. We had a great time and might be inclined to come back for apps and drinks when the weather is nicer since they have decent outdoor space, but we wouldn't go out of our way for it. I've ordered here a few times when catering in some food for office lunch and learns as part of my job. Whenever my groups request fajitas, Chuys is almost always my go to. This location is very convenient for me too. I use the curbside option and my order is brought to my car. The staff is always friendly and my order is accurate every time which is all you can ask for. There have been a few times I've ordered where I've had to wait 15-20 minutes after it was promised, but I plan ahead and order a little earlier just in case that issue does come up. They are always busy with to go orders starting at 11am so plan ahead! Will definitely order here again! read more

Pair that with some fun little drinks (margaritas) and you have yourself a good time. Our server was great! Always get the chips and salsa with the jalapeño ranch. Order some happy hour $5 queso (M-F, 3-6pm) if you want the absolute trio of dips (warning: you may get full just on this). You're safe with anything from the menu for entrees. We love their "big as yo' face" burritos and the Chicka-Chick-Boom-Boom enchiladas. No reservations needed but you can hop on the waitlist online if it's busy. First of all, I love the food here, and everyone in my family knows that. I thought the paintings in this location were fun and silly and it really added to the vibe, I wish there were more locations that showed the culture and joyfulness that this place does. But I have complaints: We had Axel as our waiter, and she made a few mistakes. She got my order wrong twice, she forgot to give us napkins, and she only gave us 4 plates when there were 5 people. But you might notice that this is a 5 star review, and that's because Axel was able to recognize her mistakes, and try and fix them the best she could while keeping a beautiful smile and joyful aditude. I never come here unless my kids want to eat here. The back half in the restaurant is closed. There were three parties of 10 or more in front of us along with three parties of 5. Oh my... The drinks are okay at best, but food is...womp. Don't go here hungry. I asked our waitress for green salsa and she brought us the ranch they use on the side salads (also, don't bother substituting a side for a taco salad or one of their other themed salads, they're going to bring you a wet pile of lettuce that even chilis side salad would run laps around). I remember going to Chuy's a few years back and not liking the experience, I chose to side with the 3.5 stars because competitors with better Tex mex were rated LOWER than this place but I was so, SO wrong. Chipotle could single-handedly send this place to pasture if they ever offered alcoholic drinks. It's rare I write a review like this but buyer beware. Unfortunately I agree with the recent reviews of this place. We use to love coming here, but lately the place is too busy even checking in online and being told it'll only be 30 minutes (it takes up to 50+ minutes when they say that). We decided that we loved the food but needed a change from dining in, so we opted for carry out. Unfortunately, what use to be great has gone sour as well with our food having smaller portions than what they use to serve, yet we're paying the same price for a full. For example, they no longer fill up their to go soups like they use to when paying for large, and the soup is barely anything just small bits when you use to be able to have chunks of the various veggies and chicken. (Picture of recent soups bought, but this has become the norm). In their defense once you are seated, their service is good, and the food is delicious. But for now, we're shelving our love for Chuys in hopes that these issues are just an off season. read more

She exhibited a keen sense of when to check in and interact with us, and when not to. She was very pleasant, up-beat, and everything one could ask for in a waitress. We went to this location Wednesday April 28, 2026 at 6:44pm. It's sad that two kids maybe 18 years old each are being allowed to run the entire establishment. Specifically, the boy and girl working the hostess stand. We requested a table for two and not a booth. Got on the waiting list and waited patiently for our table to be ready. The female hostess then attempted to seat us in a round booth that would have held 7 persons. When we explained we had specifically requested a table, she and the young gentleman chatted quietly and she then informed us that all the tables were closed and it was a booth or we could go back on the waiting list. However, two tables had customers. They informed us that they didn't have the staff to handle the tables. Neither of the kids could comprehend simply have the waiter that was up for the booth next walk 5 feet and serve us at a table. Neither one had any common sense and could not understand the simple concept. Every booth but one was full. We then informed the hostesses boy and girl that we refused to go back on their waiting list as they suggested if we wanted to eat at a table, that we would simply leave and go to another restaurant. They girl started laughing and said "okay". My question is, why are two young kids being allowed to run a large establishment of such and cause the company to loose revenue?????? No manager anywhere in sight nor was one available. Interesting in that we see these numerous posts on tipping and wait staff not being tip or receiving very little tip. They used to have tributes to Elvis on his birthday, free cake, and discounts if you dressed up as Elvis. Great spot to grab lunch or dinner! My boyfriend and I worked up an appetite after shopping all day. We popped in for lunch, there were parties outside waiting but luckily we were able to get seated right away. The dinning area wasn't too loud, however we did pop in during rush hour so everyone looked busy. Once we arrive to the table we were immediately greeted with chips and salsa. The salsa isn't the best but I recommend getting the queso! Our server was very kind and knowledgeable about the menu. I don't eat meat/chicken so the veggie enchiladas were already calling my name.
